Chapter 10

My blood ran cold as I saw the massive lioness prowling the hall before us. We backed up until we were able to go up the stairs instead of forward.

"I thought this was a museum, unless museums have changed since I was alive there shouldn't be a live lioness." Rameses said crossly once we were in the entrance hall away from the stairs, Jasper let go of the flames opting to have them float around him.

"Look a door." Jasper said pointing towards a door until we saw a lion sitting on the desks near the entrance. The three of us silently walked across the hall to the closest hall which was an exhibit called mammals of Asia we walked through the taxidermy hall until we reached another doorway this one led to a single exhibit dubbed The Lions Of Tsavo in which two lions were in a diaraghma one standing the other laying down. In front of the display was a dark skinned woman in the type of clothing that was stereotypical of a witch doctor or at least from what I had seen on tv.

"They are beautiful, No?" The woman asked not taking her eyes off the lions.

"They are beautiful lionesses." I replied watching the woman with suspicion Jasper bringing the roaming fires back to his palms, while Rameses extended his claws ready for a fight.

"They are lions not lionesses, the man-eaters of Tsavo, such deadly hunters lions are. These ones especially were unafraid of people. But enough about that we should talk business." The woman said correcting me still watching the exhibit as if they would come to life at any moment.

"What business?" I asked curiously.

"Ah, I forgot to introduce myself, I am Akinyi and your father owed me a debt, as his eldest daughter you inherited that debt when he died." The woman called Akinyi said turning towards me smiling unnerving the three of us causing Jasper and I to tense up and Rameses to start growling.

"What do you mean?" I asked unsure.

"Well your father owed me the Tome of Horus in exchange for the amulet of Bes, so you either give me the Tome or since i'm feeling generous you could give me the amulet back." Akinyi replied holding out her hand expecting me to give her one of the two although I had neither.

"I don't even know what those are so I can't really give them to you." I said not knowing what to do.

"So you're running out on your debt just like your blasted father, fine." she said crossly before turning towards the exhibit and raising her arms.

"Hayi." Akinyi said as the lions came to life.

"I didn't say that I wouldn't repay you just that I can't repay you at this moment, i'm not my father I will pay you back." I said watching the lions pace back and forth.

"Fine I will give you as much time as you need, if, you can survive the night. Aikhtafaa." She replied looking over her shoulder with a devilish smirk on her face as the glass disappeared. The lions responded by leaving their exhibit.

"Run." Rameses said fearfully causing us to all turn tail and run the way we had come we heard the lions roar as they gave chase, we ran until the entrance hall where we saw the lion we had forgotten about thinking fast I turned running away from the lion at first I was going to go down the stairs until the lion from the floor we had entered on appeared at the bottom of the stairs. Seeing us it leapt up the stairs only to collide with the maned lion as we ran by, turns out the four lions did not enjoy each others company as a fight ensued. not looking back I darted up a flight of stairs to the next floor and down the balcony to the hall of fossils where I stopped causing Jasper and Rameses to collide with me, and the three of us to end up on the floor exhausted.

"Why did we stop?" Rameses asked panting

"Lions have a good sense of smell and more stamina than us. We won't be able to outrun them for very long and seeing as they aren't roaring anymore I think we need to come up with a plan, and quickly." I replied worried about the time limit we had.

"What about your fires Jasper?" Rameses asked as I realized that the fires from earlier were gone.

"I don't think i'll be able to beat them. I tried to burn the Tsavo lions when we were running through the jungle hall but it didn't even faze them."Jasper replied downtrodden. So there goes that plan.

"Morgan do you know anything about fighting with weapons?" Rameses asked turning towards me.

"I don't know even the basics of fighting." I replied ashamed that I couldn't help our situation.

"Jasper I want you to go find a weapon, a sword or a spear and bring it back to us, I think the lions will leave you alone and if not you can escape them in your wisp form. We'll try to stay here if we can." Rameses told Jasper taking control of the situation, Jasper nodded and flew off in his wisp form.

"We should come back during the day." Rameses stated as I finally caught my breath.

"Although we might want to avoid the exhibits with lions."Rameses continued, looking at the skeletons on display. The two of us froze as we heard something scratch across the floor coming towards us. I silently told Rameses to follow me before moving to keep the display between us and whatever it was that was entering the hall.

"Got any other spells." Rameses asked grasping at straws.

"I don't think an unlocking spell would work on lions." I replied hearing my racing heart ringing in my ears.

"Wait, all the spells are just latin with the users will enforced." Rameses reasoned.

"Know any latin?" I asked peeking around a corner to see one of the lions searching for us, I quickly hid again so as not to be spotted.

"Barely but I do remember the words for blind, light, brother, and darkness." Rameses replied as the lion got closer.

"Let's go with blind." I told Rameses panicking.

"Caecus, the word is Caecus." Rameses said as we saw the snout of the lion came into view. I grabbed a handful of shed fur from Rameses back before throwing it into the lions eyes.

"Caecus." I said using the same method I had used on the lock but instead wanting the lion to be blind.

"Eyes, Eyes hurt!" I heard the lion's thoughts as well as the same resistance as before while the lion roared in pain thrashing about.

"Your eyes are scratched, you're blind now." I told it forcefully causing the resistance to fall away even more quickly than the lock had. I grabbed Rameses and dashed out of the way of the blind lion's thrashing claws and jaws. We ran through the Halls turning as the hall did the lion right behind us tripping and running into things. I ran out of the hall only to spot a pair of lions near the top of the stairs The two tsavo lions spotted us and started running towards us thinking fast I ran towards them and dived to the left at the last moment scrambling into another exhibit hall. I heard a crash as the tsavo lions hit the floor where I had just been. I ran into a room with a an overhead 360 view of a landscape.

"Morgan catch!" I heard as Jasper ran towards me a lion on his tail as he threw a rusted sword. Unfortunately I always had Fs in PE, the sword flew past my outstretched hand, for which I dropped Rameses, and clattered to the ground. Jasper tackled me and kicked Rameses out of the way as the maneless lion landed where we had just been. We scrambled to our feet backing up until we saw the three lions from before walking through the hall we had just come from. I dove for the sword grasping it and rolled away feeling the lion's claws pass right over my back cutting deep channels into me. I stood up and pointed the sword at the lions who roared at me, I could feel both the blood on my back and the concern coming from Rameses. Suddenly all four lions stopped and stood at attention before trotting out of the exhibit hall. When I turned to look at Jasper and Rameses they looked as confused as I was.

"KAMA KUNT!" Akinyi hollered causing the sword in my hands to wrench itself free and fly off to somewhere in the exhibit. We crept out of the exhibit and saw daylight streaming through the windows of the museum. On the lower level was Akinyi who seemed to be focused on something. The three of us went down the stairs to the lower level stopping when we were a few feet from Akinyi.

"Seems like you have all the time you need to repay the debt." Akinyi stated smiling at me.

"'Ughliq." Akinyi said running her hand over my back. I felt the pain in my back lessen as the blood stopped flowing.

"Can't have you dying before you repay the debt." Akinyi said smiling at me before walking away.

"Find a weapon the lions won't bother you." Jasper said mockingly to Rameses diverting my attention from Akinyi.

"Not my fault you didn't turn into a wisp to avoid them." Rameses retorted his fur bristling.

"Well I couldn't really carry a weapon in my wisp form now could I?" Jasper asked sarcastically.

"Why didn't you just take off, isn't that what you do best?" Rameses asked accusingly to which Jasper spluttered not having an answer.
