Chapter 5

I got up and turned on the lights. From touring I was used to waking up in rooms that weren't mine. However, when I opened the wardrobe and found only plain white dresses inside, I remembered my situation. I also realized I had slept in my stage clothes. My cloak was fine, but my skirt was ripped. The material had always been fragile. Luckily it didn't look unrepairable.

Then I noticed that my gloves were missing.

I jumped back to the bed, pulled the sheets away and threw them against the wall. After finding nothing under my pillow or on or under the mattress, they followed the sheets. Within minutes the room was pure chaos. I searched at every place I could reach, but found no gloves.

"WHERE!" I screamed desperately.

Then I remembered yesterday, when me and Carl talked about the gloves. And how light had appeared in his eyes.

War.

I walked to the door. I rammed it open violently- at least, I would have, if it hadn't been locked. I screamed and growled and kicked the door with my bare feet, but it didn't open. At last I let myself fall on the floor and cried. I didn't cry loudly, and that's how I heard the voice before my door:

"Finally calming down?"
I grabbed one of my boots, the one that was lying the closest to me, and threw it against the door.
"You do realize there's a door between us, right?" Carl said.
"I'm not stupid, just angry!" I shouted.
"Well, I can understand that, but you'll have to forgive me."
"YOU STOLE MY GLOVES! YOU STOLE MY WATCH! YOU KIDNAPPED ME AND LOCKED ME IN HERE AND I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR AND NO MUSIC!"

I burst into tears again, this time too loud to understand what Carl was trying to say. After a few minutes I heard him stop talking. I tried to be a bit quieter and could just hear his footsteps fade away. It still took a while for me to calm down.

I got my boots and looked around. The curtains were ripped. The window behind it was large, and I wouldn't have to jump. The desk looked light enough. I grabbed it and banged it against the window, and again, and again. The lack of brakes on my feelings gave me strength. The window shattered with a loud noise and the desk fell out. I climbed through, not paying attention to the shards, and ran away.
