Thanks for enduring the long wait. Here is the second chapter. It's basically a introduction of another main character in the story.

Present

Swetlana sat on the window seat with her bestie Hailey on the aisle seat. They were heading to Manhattan from Washington for their new job interview as assistants.

The flight landed after a journey of an hour and a half. The bright sunny morning in New York seemed to welcome them. Hailing a cab, they headed to find a rental house.

They checked a few flats, but none were according to their desire. Some had small bedroom while some were shabby, but costly.

They took a break at Coffee Junction on the Woods Street. The waiter served them with a latte and went away. Paying the bill, they were discussing about finding a better rent house when the waiter overheard them.

"Miss...if you don't mind me telling, I have a house and I'm looking for someone to rent. If you are interested...."

Swetlana checked out the waiter. He looked quite sober and well-built. He had grey eyes which matched well with his uniform. He had a faint smile and seemed to be polite.

She glanced at Hailey who had a positive look and nodded.
The waiter introduced himself as David Ross and took them to his house as soon as his day shift was over. He showed them the room which satisfied their needs. The room was comfortable for two people. Two single beds were kept side by side divided by a small drawer. The bathroom had all the facilities they needed. The price was affordable too so they decided to stop their search there.

Shifting all the luggages into their new home , they gathered in the dining hall for dinner.

After cooking , David placed the food on the table and sat down with them across the table.

"Miss....where did you both live before?" David tried to start a conversation.

"We are from Washington and David...you don't need to be formal. I'm Swetlana and she is my bestie Hailey. You can call me Lana too" Swetlana replied coolly.

"Cool. You can callme David cause I don't have a nickname yet" David joked.

"So...New job, huh?" David asked chewing his piece of steak.

"Yeah...we have interview tomorrow at Fonseka Data Company" Hailey replied.
It was as if David grew a bit serious after that.

"Oh. I see. "

"Tell us about yourself, David..." Hailey continued.

"Nothing much. It's been almost 2 years I've started working at Coffee Junction as a waiter after I passed high school. My friend's uncle is the manager so he recommended me to his uncle and I started working there."

After they had completed their dinner, Hailey and Swetlana went to their room after biding 'good night'. They laid on their cosy bed waiting for their important day to arrive the day after.

Swetlana did not know how that fancy day would turn out to be the one of the striking day of her life.
