Days went as usual with work and stress. David recouped from his health. Alex still insisted on staying back. Beth and Cody came over to visit him. The TV played Jumanji. Everyone was enjoying the movie when Hailey muted it and sat up straight.

"Why don't we all go for a camping? It's so boring....I hate city life. I wanna have fun...please..." Hailey whinned.

"Yeah. Good idea." Alex said as he looked at David.

"I don't know. I have to ask for a overnight shift to join you guys for camping." David shrugged.

"I'm up!" Beth and Cody put up their hands.

"Fine. I'll go too." Lana said flashing her bunny teeth.

~A few days later~

Everyone packed their own bagpacks and dumped the bags in the trunk and seated themselves. The jeep covered miles following the route on the GPS. Music blasted through the speakers as Cody drove the car carefully at the sharp bends.

Bethany sat beside him and watched as the city passed by. Lana and Alex sat on the second row. She looked ahead with droopy eyes. Hailey and David gossiped occasionally as David kept on playing on his phone.

Hours went by and Lana had made herself comfortable, resting her head on Alex's shoulder. He didn't mind either. He glanced at her once in a while and brushed her hair back. She stirred in sleep and continued sleeping.

Hailey had fallen asleep too. She bumped her head on the window. David put up his palm to prevent her from getting hurt. She turned around and got comfortable on his arms. He looked at her sunned for a few moments and then relaxed.

Beth was awake. Cody drove the car skillfully in the mountain path as the GPS blinked at 1km away.

The car came to a halt. Hailey's head jerked forward as she sat up awake and glanced at David. Her cheeks heated up as she snapped her head out of the window.

They exited their car. The cold winds blew against their skin making them shiver. The moon shone brightly on the night sky. The forest around made eerie noise and far away the silhouette of a man stood there watching them secretly.

Distributing tasks to built the tent and finding woods for bonfire, they parted ways. Beth took off to a different direction and walked away.

The deeper she went, the denser the forest got. She pulled out her knife from the edge of her boots and cut down the dangling branches off her way. She felt something was off as she walked ahead. She stopped for a while and decided to return back. She started to follow her way back.

A howl rattled the forest. She immediately took off, spranging through the jungle floor and followed the sound source.

David put up the tent and tied it in a knot when the growl shook him up. He stood up sensing something. He ran into the forest, making his way through the woods and the thick overlying branches of the trees.

Cody and Lana ran a few steps when Lana insisted Cody to stay back. Cody tried to stop her but she heard nothing and followed David as fast she could.

The woods echoed repeatedly as David reached the place. Lana ran behind him, too drained from the run. She took a few breaths to calm her racing heart as she looked across David.

The scene in front stunned her. She felt helpless as she forgot to breathe. Her whole body felt numb and her mind went blank. It seemed to her as if her own eyes were deceiving her.  She never imagined to witness this moment....this shocking and scary moment.
A moment that would remain engraved in her mind till the very last moment of her life.
