Chapter 13

~A few days later~

Alex stayed back to help Lana and Hailey to take care of David. He prepared the breakfast as Lana sat on the chair stretching her arms. Alex turned around and put the breakfast in front of her.
Toast and scrambled eggs.
She looked up at him. His golden eyes shone brightly under the sun rays from the kitchen window. She smiled at him.
"Thank you for helping and staying beside us. David is lucky to get such a good friend in you."

"All good. I'm glad I came as a help. You helped him to reach the hospital in time."

Hailey came down a few minutes later. Lana arranged her bag and left for her office early.

Birds chirped and the weather was perfect for a break. Lana inhaled deeply the  fresh air as she hired a cab to the office.
Paying off the driver she entered the lobby. The staffs stared at her and whispered loudly among themselves.

"How many weeks ago did she join here? She already got the job as his Personal Secretary without even trying! We have been working hard to get that position for months! He had one or the other complain for our hardwork..."

"Oh she must have seduced him. Didn't you see she rode his BMW?!" said her colleague.
"Is that it? Mr. Fonseka even injured his hand to save this little devil. He never cared when it came to us! What is she? A magician? A witch?" Said a girl with black hair as she kept on fixing her makeup.

Lana stood there in admist of all the eyes on her. When the chattering stopped as everyone spoke in unison.
Lana turned around to see Liam entering the lobby with his injured hand in the pockets and the other dangling with the flow of his forwarding step.

The staffs bowed as she looked at the floor. Liam slowed down and whispered " Get to work" as his arm brushed Lana's. She turned around, admiring his attitude secretly and feeling happy to be special than the others. She looked at the staffs as she walked inside with dignity.

~A few weeks later~
"I gave you the data worksheet to get it filled up. I'm supposed to hand it over to the CEO today!" Lana reasoned.

A young lady with her violet hair flowing in the air looked annoyingly at Lana.

"I didn't receive any worksheet, Ms. Winters." She said casually as she chewed her bubblegum.

"I remember it clearly. It was last week. You're sitting in your desk and you're watching a TV show with Ms. Jennifer! "

Jennifer walked up to her on her name being mentioned.
"Of course we're watching a show...we always do... but you didn't hand any worksheet to Ms. Grey. I can second that."

Lana fumed nervously as she walked back to her desk. The two women smirked looking at each other as the wicked woman looked at the dustbin beside her seat.

Liam walked out of his office.
"I need the data worksheet I gave to complete a week ago. Ms. Winters, bring it to my office."

He turned to leave as Lana stopped him.

"I've to print the form again,Sir." Lana looked at her foot.

"Didn't you give it to Ms. Grey yet?"
"I clearly remember I did but..." Lana couldn't  complete her sentence.

"She is lying in front of everyone! I didn't receive any worksheet from her. How can you lie when it's your responsibility, Ms. Winters! " Kayla Grey insisted.

"Fine. I'll check out the CCTV footages and check which of you're lying. Be ready to pack your stuffs and leave."

Kayla started sweating furiously as she fell on her knees.
"Mr. Fonseka! Sir! I'm so sorry.  I...I lied. It was me. I was just playing around with Ms. Winters. I never intended to go this far. I swear. I'm...I'm so sorry." She looked up at her boss with blurry eyes and smudged makeup all over her face.

"So now you all have enough time to play around with your co-worker!" The CEO fumed in anger as the hall echoed.
"You know I never give second chances, ever. But since Ms. Winters is involved, I'll let her give the judgement whether you stay or not."

Lana snapped her head towards her boss.
All eyes of the workers and securities were focused on her, waiting for her to speak out her decision.

Kayla shifted close to Lana as she pressed her palms together.
"Please forgive me. I'm really sorry. I swear I'll never make any jokes like this. Please."

The tension in the room reached its highest peak as everyone held their breaths for a few seconds.
Lana took a deep breath as she looked at the woman with smeared makeup on the floor and spoke out her decision.
