"Did you see that?" Hailey whisper - shouted.
"See what?" Lana looked at her suspiciously.
Hailey sighed "Liam and Alex! They were being weird! They were grunting at each other. I think they know each other well."
Lana stared at her as if she had gone crazy and asked " They aren't animals that they'll grunt and growl. Liam left because he had work to do. Could we focus on David for now?"

The doctor came out of the room. Lana looked up at him. He advised, "The patient has got cuts and deep injuries. He might remain unconscious for a long while. There is also a bite mark of some wild animal. It will take time to cure him up. You must stay beside the patient and take care of him to have him healthy sooner. Let us know immediately if there is even a fraction change in his condition."

"Yes, Sir. Thank you." Lana nodded.

Midnight crept up the evening sky and the halls became empty. With a few patients in their assigned rooms, only a few families staying back for the night. Lana stayed in the hospital too. Alex and others left in the evening with Hailey. The monitor beeped slowly and rhythmically, which was the only sound to be heard. Lana was starting to dose off when suddenly David opened his eyes.
It seemed as if he was up after a sound sleep. Looking around he saw Lana as he sat up straight. Lana, shocked at the sudden and unexpected turn, forgot to speak for a while. She pressed the nurse button. Doctors hurried inside with nurses following closely. They laid David on the bed and took blood tests.
After a few disturbing minutes, the doctor asked Lana to meet him out.

"The scratches seems to have healed up very fast. It's really unlikely but..."he scratched his head as he continued "the bite mark has faded too. Blood pressure and heart rate are back to stable but slow. He seems to be better....but if you find any other symptoms, bring him back for a check-up." The doctor handed her the prescription.

In the increasing daylight next morning, David was discharged from the hospital as they hired a cab back to their home.

"Alex? Umm....this is Lana here. Do you want to...like, come over? David has been discharged and we're back home." Lana eyed Hailey as she put up her thumb.
"Ahh...sure. Should I bring others?" The person on other side of the line said.
"No prob. Tell them to come over too."

Hailey made corn soup and placed it on the desk beside David's bed. David skidded back and sat up, coughing out loud. Lana pulled up the bed cover and helped David drink the soup.

He looked at Lana.
"You alright?" He spoke in a raspy voice, due to his continuous silence for these past days.

"Yes. Mr. Fonseka came at the right time....saved me and Hailey." Lana said stirring the soup in the bowl.

"Fonseka?" He furrowed his eyebrows.

"Yeah. You know, the CEO of the Fonseka Company...Liam Fonseka"

"I know that. I mean why was he here so late at night?" David wondered.

"He came to give me an e-...ahh yes!" Lana looked at Hailey and said, "Feed him up the rest. I'll be back in a few."

Hailey held the bowl and nodded.
Lana ran up to her room and opened her drawer. The envelope was in it but has crumpled up. She opened the letter.

The Fonseka Company has reviewed your weekly work Analysis. You were found to have the highest net points. So according to the Rules and Regulation Terms, you have been selected as the CEO Liam Fonseka's Personal Secretary with an increase in the salary by $150, thus the total salary rising up to $950.

Lana looked at the letter in awe as a bright smile covered her pale face. She forgot all her miseries for a while as she formulated all the facilities of her new post. She was still unsurewhat to do but a chance to upgrade her life made her happy.
