Chapter 2

I yawn tiredly while walking into my psychology class, eyes half lidded as I glanced over to my equally tired classmates. With a small sigh, I walked through raised pews, walking down the aisle, turned sideways to pass through the scooted back chairs before I got to an open seat next to a lanky guy with pale skin and vibrant green, lime hair and another person, who was tan, wearing a grey dyed wolf-cut and circular glasses.

I pulled the chair out and took my bag off of my shoulders as a took my seat, setting the bag between my legs and leaning forward on the desk, resting my chin in my hand, staring off at the large empty white board, my professor, Ms. Aaberg; a tall Scandinavian woman with brown skin, sitting at her desk going through her laptop which I can only assume was her checking emails or going through the lesson plan for today.

I sighed softly, taking my headphones out; I paused the music, wrapping the headphones around the silver mp3 player before setting them down on the desk. I reached down between my legs, unzipping the largest pocket of my big bag, pulling out a grey folder, a small rip down the top, that was labelled 'Psychology'. It was a semi-thick folder full of paperwork that was in progress or had been done. I set the folder down on my desk and reached back down into my bag, pulling out a thick blue book titled, 'Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders.'  by The American Psychiatrics association.

The multiple books I need for this school had eaten a whole in my pocket and they were crazy expensive, to get through the college, which might I add was just as stupidly expensive, and that was with the scholarship I had gotten to get into this goddamn place. It was honestly ridiculous. On top of computer fees, campus fees, fucking lunch room fees, I would honestly give anything to catch a break and actually be able to have some money in my pocket.

I could already feel the stress causing a headache from just thinking about the enormous debt that I was going to be in after I was done with school, especially since I was taking both medical classes and Psychology classes, there was a lot of weight on my shoulders already. To be honest, I probably already have some grey hairs from all the stress being caused by students and the classes, the work pile up, as well as a part time job so I'm able to pay off what my scholarship doesn't cover. If I was able to, I would definitely go back and slap myself for choosing such expensive majors.

I lifted my head and set the book down next to the folder, leaning back in my chair as I waited for my class to start, my head hanging over my chair and leaning back in it. I looked around the room with a heavy sigh, looking at the door. I furrowed my eyebrows, noticing the two I had met in the parking lot pass by the door. It was odd; for new students, they always had a guide to show them around. but these two didn't having anyone showing them around, every new student did, but, they had no one.

The shorter one, I think his name was Dean, was glancing side to side, like he was doing something wrong, bouncing a little on his toes with his hands tucked into his pockets, giving a smile to a passing girl who paid no mind at all to him. His brother, Sam, was holding a laptop on his hip, doing a slight wave gesture at Dean. I wasn't able to make any of the words that Sam was speaking, but they both just genuinely looked really fucking lost, like two lost dogs who had no idea what they were fucking doing. They both looked annoyed, irritated as all hell.

I took my phone out and flipped the screen up, turning it on and checking the time. I had a good ten minutes before class started. I stood up, grabbing my mp3 player and standing up. I pushed my chair in and walked to the door, opening it up and looking at the two brothers. I stepped out and shut the door, looking side to side like I was crossing the road as not to bump into any other students as I approached them.

"Hey, are you guys lost? need my help finding the office after all?" I asked, putting my hands in my pockets as the two brothers turned to look at me, Sam giving me a smile and shaking his head. I glanced at Dean when he cleared his throat.

"No, Actually. Can you actually help us find the library? Big school." Dean said with shrug, about to continue speaking before Sam raised his hand to cut off his brother, adjusting the computer and switching it to the other hand.

"Actually, the both of us, we are both major history buffs, which was why we were looking for the library in the first place, since we don't have classes for awhile; but you, you look like the kind of person to know a lot about the area." Sam said with a vague smile, dimples slightly appearing on his face as he shifted his weight to the left side of his body.

"I mean, I guess I do. But what do you wanna know? How long it took to build the damn city or what?" I asked, scratching my chin a little while waiting for the response, watching Dean shrug his shoulders, propping his lower lip out a little.

"What do you know about the woods, that lead up here. What folklore surrounds the place, any creatures?" He asked me in an odd way, almost knowing, it felt like he knew more about me than I know about myself. Both the brothers seemed to notice the change on my face.

Of course my expression changed. The last time I was in those woods I was attacked by some freakazoid creature. If I ever had to go back in there, like hell would it be at night like last time. Goddamn, I still remember the sound the radio made that night, even though it was years ago; its not like its something easily forgotten, especially something like that.  The scar I have on my shoulder is a constant reminder of that night, I had to go to therapy for it because of the nightmares it has caused, hell, I can't roll my window down without listening to the radio first, listening for that damn screech, which reminds me; the car can't be moving before the radio is on and I know it's working, and absolutely no driving at night, especially in the woods.

It all was so traumatizing, and sometimes I still feel like I see the creature out of the corner of my eye. I'm always looking over my shoulder, I still feel the pain in my scar even though it was still two years ago, I still feel the claws tearing through my shoulder and I still hear the rip of skin and the scrape against the car after Denny drove away the night. And yes, I suppose I do know a little bit because after an experience like that, you really can't look and things the same like you used to do. I know a little bit of everything about a lot of things. There are reasons my mirror doesn't directly face my bed and why I cover it at night, and there's a reason I take knocking on wood a little more seriously than most others.

"I, I guess I know some things. Nothing serious enough, what do you wanna know?" I ask, clearing my throat a little, fiddling with some lint in the pockets of my jeans, keeping my hands enclosed while I swayed side to side a little bit.

"Well, before we, Me and Dean; came here, we decided to take a look around the local news, and we noticed a lot of car crashes on M-37, lots of people go missing, the same stretch of road. The people in the crashes all say the same thing, they saw some tall humanoid like creature. What is all that about?" Sam asked.

"I don't know, a bunch of drunks on the road. They probably hit some infected deer, or something like that. You get some of those poor guys occasionally, parasites." I said with a shrug. I had to admit, there was a big part of me in my head, the sensible part, that tells me that that experience was just some nightmare, that we rain into a stray tree that made those scrapes on the side of the car, that maybe we got into a wreck which is how I got this scar, but that little part in the back of my head, the part that usually over thinks, it always tells me that that actually happened.

"What about the claw marks on the sides of cars, on people even. Massive fuckers, nasty scars on their sides, stomachs... Shoulders." Dean said, in a tone that was almost annoying, condescending almost;  like he was trying to pry something out of me, it annoyed me to all hell though it usually wasn't really something to get so annoyed about.

"Cougars," I quickly said, almost with a bit of a jab behind my voice. I was silent for just a moment, straightening my back just a little. "Cougars. There kind of common around these parts, some are a little braver than others." I added, breathing in deeply through my nose, glancing around as a swallowed what felt like a lump in my throat.

"What about the people who have gone missing? I mean, cars are just abandoned in the middle of the night and the owners are never seen again after than, unless they're a pile of bones in the middle of nowhere." Dean said in response to me, it almost made my eye twitch, especially when he smiled at me. It made me even more aggravated, which I could only assume was start to show when Sam began to take over talking with me, holding his hand out and clearing his throat.

"I'm sorry, you have to excuse my brother, Dean. He tends to get on a lot of peoples nerves, I know it can get annoying; but, he does bring up a point. Have you any idea, why they just leave their cars, and bones are found later?" he asked, in a much more inquisitive tone instead of one that could just make your blood boil like hell.

"I honestly couldn't tell you, but I can say the woods around this place are scary at night, to the point it can be scarring if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time," I said, looking up at the clock on the wall with a frown on my face. I reached back and scratched my head, taking a deep breath. "Listen, my class is gonna start soon. If you wanna talk later, I have a small break before work around two later today. I can meet you guys in the court yard if you still wanna talk. The library has it's own separate building, this is the course study building, the farthest building to the left by the church that is next to the school. You honestly can't miss it, it is the oldest building on campus."
I gave the brothers a smile before turning around, walking through the students and taking a deep breath, stepping back into the large classroom, taking notice of my teacher writing on the large board, occasionally glancing at the screen of her laptop.

I looked out the door, watching the brothers talk for a minute or two before they began walking with the flow of  adults that were leaving the building to go do some other things. That whole conversation felt so weird, it felt like I was in some police station, sitting in a cold damp room with a bright light shining in my face, with two very pissed off detectives slamming their hands on the table, berating me with seeming harmless questions. It honestly felt like asking yourself if you had accidentally packed a gun while going through airport security.

I sat back down in my chair, leaning back a little as I grabbed my notebook to take notes on what we were going to be learning, flipping through the pages as I searched for a new page. I didn't notice I was shaking until the person next to me place their hand on my shoulder.
"Hey, are you okay?" They asked, setting their book down on the table.

I nodded my head and cleared my throat yet again, trying to get my grip back as I took a deep breath, looking at the person and giving them a bit of a smile.
"Yeah, Yeah. I'm perfectly fine." I said, watching them nod and take their hand off of my shoulder, turning back to their own things.

I ran a hand though my hair as I grabbed a pen, noticing the Teacher was just finishing up everything on the board, clearing her throat in a way that just seemed to silence the entire classroom...
That was it, finally class was starting and I could get that interaction off of my mind and just focus about my future, a frown on my face as Ms. Aaberg began the start of her lesson, speaking in a loud and pronounced voice.

The whole time I was in class, I felt like I was floating, only sparing glances at the board as I wrote down notes. Ms. Aaberg was talking about how to help someone who has PTSD and help someone having a panic attack, which was basics but she had thrown it in for a reminder, or some ways that a person my cope in an unsafe manner that may not be physical, but more how it can be mentally unsafe, like refusing to speak about something that was traumatizing to oneself, how it can change someone's entire personality.
By the time it was over, I had taken quite a few notes on the subject. I gathered my things quickly, zipping up my bag and putting on my shoulders, putting my headphones in and searching through my mp3 player to find some music while leaving. I was gonna take a break, I had a thirty minute period before my next class and I was planning on getting some breakfast so I didn't forget later and accidentally starve myself.

I had six classes, each varied in length depending on the importance, so my main medical and Psychological classes were the longest, and I had classes between them so I wasn't drowning in back to back work from both of my main classes
I was quick to leave the course study building, being greeted by the bright sun, squinting my eyes. I brought my arm up, holding it just above my brows, shading my face as a walked. My stomach was growling, feeling it gurgle. I groaned, annoyed and hungry with a slight throb in my forehead, a vein basically popping out from a minor headache that was just there enough, to be mildly uncomfortable. It was so draining, my first few morning classes were always such a pain in the ass, especially the chairs which honestly felt terrible to sit on.

I took a deep breath as my eyes finally adjusted to the light, walking down the cement paved paths to the court yard, just right outside the dorms. I walked to the fountain and stood there for a moment, feeling the light mist caused by a gentle wind that was coming through, letting it hit my face to cool down a little. It was nice, feeling the wind and watery mist my face, giving my a break from the hot sun that beat down on me, that casted tall shadows from the trees that stretched across the grass to the pavement, missing the fountain.

I smiled, I already felt so much better. I turned away and walked to the doors of the dormitory, pushing the glass doors open and walking to the elevator, pressing the button to the fifth floor, stepping aside as more people walked in after me, pressing different buttons. I waited in the corner as the elevator rose, going to the second, third, then my floor, the fifth.

I stepped out and walked down the hallway and felt around my key to my single person dorm which were slightly more expensive but in my opinion, worth it so I could have my privacy. I had tied to get a room with Denny, but just couldn't which was a shame.
I smiled when I finally found the key to my dorm, twisting it around in my fingers so the teeth were facing the right way.
The smile on my face quickly faded as I grabbed the handle to my door, noticing that the door wasn't even shut, which I'm pretty damn sure I did, and I know for sure that I had locked the damn thing too. I was frozen, sheepishly, I pushed the door open, listening to the creak as the door slowly opened.

//AN: Sorry for the long wait on the chapter, I have been on a very long dry streak. I'm going to try and update consistently
