➸ Chapter 13
It was weird.
Everything that was happening today was weird. When the basilisk rose to its full height and bared it's fangs, her mouth had dropped in horror but for reasons unknown, the snake slithered away after looking at the ruby ring on her finger.
She tenderly cared for the hand where a bruise had formed; she'd fought of a bunch of monstrous spiders with a dagger she had, yet their moves were fast and their swipes were deadly.
She was surprised at the unexpected surge of speed and superhuman strength she showed at the face of danger. "Maybe it's within me," she thought.
Confused and scared, Shelly ran deeper into the woods and after she'd wandered around until sundown, she realised that she was tired.
The feeling of hunger crossed her tummy and right on time she saw a cottage on the way, neatly perched amongst the trees with a small clearing around the housing.
Red roses grew in a small patch and there definitely was a kettle of delicious soup boiling inside.
The smell tickled her hungry stomach.
Happy to find some company at last, Shelly knocked on the door. "Anybody home?"
"Oh! My sweet child! Come in, granny can't walk." A voice replied, "Granny feels ill."
She had no idea who this granny figure was but 'Poor granny,' thought Shelly as she opened the door and walked in.
Despicable as she was, Shelly had the softest heart in Angland.
"May I help you with something?" Shelly asked as she entered the bedroom, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Taken aback by the horrible nature of the sight ahead, she stood perplexed with a gasp.
On the bed was a werewolf, poised and ready to attack, its eyes gleaming with hunger, its fangs bared to snap her neck. She had read romantic stories about alpha wolves who mated with humans, but this one seemed to be in love with her as long as she was a meal.
But then the werewolf looked surprised too.
"Who are you?" they asked each other in unison.
"Well, I was hungry and hoping I could get some food, so I decided to ask," Shelly answered first.
"I am hungry and I was waiting for that little girl with the red hoodie to come by- so I could eat her," the werewolf shrugged, "I wonder why she's so late- I mean, her granny warned of the big bad wolf who eats kids after dark." The wolf checked his watch and sighed. "It's half past six already!"
"Oh, I am sorry to bother you. I think I'll just leave, then," Shelly flashed a smile. Werewolves weren't her thing when it came to company. She admired vampires, now that was her sort of company.
"That wouldn't be necessary, because you look as tasty as the red hoodie girl. I'll eat you and be happy with it for today!" the wolf declared, smacking his lips and bearing his fangs.
"Okay," Shelly shrugged, "You can try."
When Shelly came out of the cottage, the wolf had a few bones more and a few fangs less.
