Chapter 5

I woke up and found myself in a hospital bed. The coach must've blown up and we were a bit too close. Caleb. Where was he? Was he alright? I looked around and saw Charlotte. She was pale and dry. My heart skipped a beat as she turnsd around in her bed. How did she survive? She had burns and cuts all over her and I instantly felt sorry for her. She must've had no idea what she did and I hope it stayed that way. For now anyway.

   Beep Beep Beep Beep

I looked around and saw other girls in beds. They wdre all i  my class. They were all asleep. Then I heard a voice next to me. A doctor. How did I not notice him?

"Wow. You must be a girl impossible to defeat. You were the one closest to the coach, with severe cuts and a broken wrist, yet you managed to get lots of people out, survive an attack and wake up first. Amazing." It was a young guy, around 20 at the most, with short, brown hair and hazel eyes. His face reminded me of Caleb. Soft, gentle and reassuring. I was flattered and I could tell I was blushing.

"You remind me of my cousin, Natalie. She's around your age and she looks just like you, except, she's blonde and you're a brunette. Like my sister. She is 15." He smiled and I smiled back. I felt a bit awkward since he was probably 8 years older than me but I still smiled back.

What happened? I mean, did everybody survive? Did anyone-"

"Most of you survived. There was a girl who got an infection in her stomach. Aparently, she had a piece of metal stuck and someone pulled it out. Seems like they forgot to bandage it though cuz she passsed away due to  blood loss. Taking the metal out was the right thing to do tho."he paused and chuckled. "We don't know what happened to your friend Charlotte, but I can tell you this. We won't be letting her anywhere near you until we do."

"What about Caleb?" I asked. I had to know if he was O.K. If it wasn't for him, I'd be dead by now. Or at least in a much worse condition.

"He's fine. Still hasn't woken up but he suffered from a few cuts and bruises as well as one or two burns. But he'll be fine. Don't worry. You got minor burns, a broken ankle, a few cuts here and there and also a tiny bit of blood loss. You'll survive. I've gotta go now. But as soon as you're feeling at least a bit better, we'll be able to get you onto some crutches and you'd be able to see your friend." And he walked off to god knows where. I felt better now. Safe and happy. I lay back and fell into a sweat, oblivious sleep.
