Chapter 3

There were screams and shouts and cries as we tumbled down the mountain side. Charlotte was gripping my arm with all her might. I actually thought that her fingers were going to cut through me for a minute. I looked at Charlotte, who was crying and she dug her face into my shoulders. That felt really awkward. I felt awkward. Everybody was screaming and shouting but I just sat there. Silent. Was this really happening? Or was it a dream?

Suddenly, there was a crash and a huge, super thick branch crashed through my window. I opened my mouth to scream, but no sound was coming out. I was horrified, petrified. There was another crash and somehow, I found myself flung out of the coach and onto a nearby tree. I watched as the coach tumbled down rapidly. It was near the bottom when I finally found the strength I needed to get myself down the tree and soon enough, I found myself running after the vehicle. Running after Charlotte.

When I got to the bottomof the mountain, the coach was laying on the road, sideways and destroyed. All the windows were gone and that was when I saw it. A hand. Reaching through a broken window, trying to hoist themeselves up and out of the coach. Charlotte. I ran to the hand but it wasn't Charlotte. It was someone else. It was Caleb, a 15 year old boy with blonde hair and green eyes. Green eyes that were filled with horror. Green eyes that were filled with fear. I helped him out and took him a few metres away from the coach. He hugged me and I instantly felt a hint of happiness. A hint of relief. At least I knew somebody was alive and if there was one alive, there had to be more.

"I saw you. I saw you flying out of your window so quickly, I thought you were dead. It was horrible. Charlotte was screaming for you and so was everyone else that saw you. We all feared the worst had happened." He explained. I never actually realised that we had never even talked before, yet he seemed so concerned about me.

"Come on then. Let's go see if there is anyone else who survived. I hope Charlotte did." And we hurried to the wreckage.

There were quite a few peole who survived. We helped them out one by one. But it took time and there was no sign of Charlotte anywhere. I started to fear that the worst had happened to her and that I'd never see her again. But every now and then, Caleb would come and reassure me that everything would be alright. There were lots of severly injured kids. Some had deep cuts, some had bruises, there was even a girl who had a metal rod pushed deep into her stomach. That scared me the most. I knew that I had to pull it out, but I had to distract her first and that was not going to be easy. Then, her friend came and pulled it out. Just like that. I rushed back to the coach, but there was something making me feel extemely uncomfortable. At first I just thought it was the shock, but soon realisdd it was something else. Something much worse.

I heard a quiet hissing sound. It sounded dodgy and alarming. Something was wrong and I could sense it. I had heard it before, but where. It was on a mystery drama about this police officer trying to solve a murder. But when she reached her car to chase the murederer, there was a sound. The hissing sound. What happened next? Oh no.... I remebered instantly. Her car exploded and she died. Shit. That meant that the coach would explode. I ran to Caleb and explained everything. He saw what I meant and by then, the police and ambulances had arrived. We had to get as far as possible before it blew up. But there was no way I was going to leave my best friend. Dead or alive.
