✦ chapter one ✦

A little black cat had just spoken to Marinette.

Not only did it speak very good French, it was also very confident when speaking to a human. It even had a sense of humor.

Marinette was in such shock that she didn't notice it walk away from her without saying goodbye. The cat walked slowly to the end of the street, his tail swinging from side to side playfully. Marinette followed after it, shuffling her feet towards the feline.

The black cat looked back at her with a twinkle in it's eye, the same hypnotizing eyes commanding her to follow him. Marinette took one step towards him, and the cat nodded. As she took the next step, the cat started to run .

"Hey!" Marinette shouted as she chased after it.

The cat was running much quicker than a normal cat, Marinette was having trouble keeping up. Still remembering her clumsiness, she accidentally ran in front of a truck, almost tripped into a mini market and somehow cut her ankle. Finally after five minutes of running, the cat slowed down its pace.

It gave Marinette a devious look which kind of resembled a smirk, and began walking down a road Marinette had never seen before.

"Since you're following me, I'm guessing you would at least like to know my name?" The cat asked without looking back at her.

Marinette stopped and looked around, she didn't recognize the street at all, and she had been in Paris her whole life. It wasn't very often when you found a street in Paris that was completely empty.

There was no one around her, just Marinette and the weird cat. Marinette could feel the hairs on the back of her neck sticking up, the little voice in her head telling her to go back to where she had come from. But she ignored those warnings and continued to follow the cat.

"Well, it would be nice to know your name... I guess," she said shakily.

Marinette face palmed herself mentally, the situation was so ridiculous. Why was she talking to a cat? People would begin to think that she's crazy, talking to a creature that was lower then her, and then thinking it would respond back.

But the cat's eyes were undeniable, they seemed to smile at her, coaxing Marinette to step closer.

"I am Chat Noir," he said, his green eyes becoming even more effervescent, "and you have been chosen for a special quest."

"What?"

"You have all the abilities for it; first of all, you can talk to cats." He laughed, a weird but still human-like laugh.

Marinette took a little step back, her trust for the cat was starting to drop.

"You mean not everyone can hear you? But your voice seems so clear."

"What's your name?" it asked.

"M-Marinette. Marinette Dupain-Cheng."

"Well, Marinette"—the cat gave her a evil grin—"maybe you can understand cats, because you're starting to look like one."

Marinette replied with a confused "huh?", the cat looked back at her waiting for her reply. At first, Marinette had no idea what he was saying. There was no way on earth that she looked like a cat. Then, she felt something unusual poke out of her head, all of a sudden she could hear much better.

"W-What do you mean?" she asked, feeling the folds that had formed on her head.

The cat chuckled as he walked up to a nearby puddle.

"Why don't you take a look?"

Marinette felt more of her facial features change, like her nose was being pulled or her eyes shifting. She hesitantly walked up to the puddle with a thought of doubt in the back of her mind.

For a moment she looked at her reflection in disbelief, thinking of it as a joke. Not only did she have a new set of cat ears forming on her head, but also whiskers, a cat-like nose and canine teeth. It looked as if two different species were fighting over her body.

Her breathing became heavy when she realized it wasn't a joke at all, and that it was her actual reflection.

"You should consider yourself lucky, not all cats are as lucky to have long whiskers like you," she heard the cat say.

Marinette felt her eye twitch as she stared back at her new reflection. She was both disgusted and horrified, her mind was unable to process what had just happened. As she touched her new 'cat' ear, she felt something kick her from behind and into the muddy puddle she was looking at. Her head hit the ground, and Marinette blacked out.

The last thing she saw were the hypnotizing eyes of the unlucky black cat.

Marinette felt a bright light shine in her face, causing her to jolt up. Her eyes popped open as she flapped her arms around, expecting to be in the same puddle she had fallen into on the foggy street in Paris. But instead, she felt a bed sheet.

She looked around at her surroundings; it was a little house with rounded walls. On those walls were massive bookshelves that held hundreds of books, more then Marinette had ever seen in her life. She also noticed that the tables, chairs and other furniture weren't very far off the ground.

"So you're awake," she heard a familiar voice ask.

Marinette spun around in her bed and was greeted with a figure that was much taller then her. She immediately pushed herself back and off the bed, landing on the ground with a 'thud'. The figure chuckled and stepped towards her to help her up, but Marinette pushed his hand away.

"W-Who are you?"

The figure laughed again, his lime green eyes peeked out from beneath his black mask. Marinette studied him a bit more, he had both cat and human features: tanned skin, blonde hair and a human body structure; but also a tail, cat ears and claws.

Marinette slowly stood up and backed up a bit.

"Who are you?" she asked once again.

"Marinette, it's me! Remember the black cat you saved from the street?" the cat-like human took another step closer to her.

Marinette shook her head, she was so confused. As Chat Noir took more steps towards her, she continued to back away. She was frightened, and to make matters worse she could still feel her new cat ears and whiskers.

She felt herself bump into a soft surface, much like a pillow, but when she turned around she was faced with a giant black cat. The cat growled at her making her fall backwards onto the floor.

"It's a giant cat! Someone help! I don't belong here! I don't know where I am-"

"Actually, he's just obese from eating too much cheese. Isn't that right, Plagg?" Chat Noir asked the enormous cat, he turned back to Marinette "Don't worry, he's just a little upset. Maybe he didn't eat his Camembert today... who knows?"

The black cat grunted and stepped towards Chat, his movement made the whole house shake.

"I'm upset because you have brought yet another human into this land, therefore making the curse even worse! This has to be your worst attempt yet, this girl hardly knows what's going on!" Plagg exclaimed.

"Ah yes, but you see, I haven't explained everything to her yet." Chat Noir let out a nervous laugh as he saw Plagg lose his patience.

"Let me guess, you went into the human world—in cat form—and brought an innocent, clueless girl here? What were you thinking?" Plagg asked.

"I see that you have been using that dictionary I bought you, but that doesn't give you an excuse to be disrespectful. This girl is going to save your ass, so I suggest you zip that mouth shut and sit down."

Plagg had no choice but to obey his master, he stomped back to his spot and sat on the ground. Chat knew how much he hated sitting since Plagg's big head needed a lot of support.

"Cat land?" Marinette asked.

Chat Noir coughed, dismissing the argument with Plagg and faced Marinette.

Before he could explain himself, they all heard a series of footsteps outside their house. It sounded like the marching of soldiers about to go to battle. Suddenly, the front door of the little house was broken down, Chat Noir jumped in front of Marinette and waved his hands in the air.

"Plagg! Protect Marinette at all cost!" Chat Noir shouted.

Marinette backed up against the bed as the 'soldiers' entered the building, which were actually long lines of cats. The cats, unlike Chat Noir and Plagg, were normal sized cats, so they were much smaller.

Marinette saw Plagg pushing as many cats as he could out of the house, but there were too many for him to handle.

The cats marched up to Marinette, a cheeky grin plastered on all their faces. Without warning, the cats surrounded her and picked her up. Marinette screamed but she couldn't struggle against the cats, there were just too many holding her down.

"The king has found a new bride!" one of the cats shouted, which was followed by many more shouts and cat-like noises.

Before Chat Noir could save her from the cats, they had taken her out of house and were carrying her down the streets. They headed down the paved road, which Chat Noir knew only lead to the Evil King's palace.
