Chapter Nine
I had another strange dream that night, not like the one from the night before with underwater creatures and castles: but still strange none the less.
I was in a dark room with no windows or doors. I could faintly hear something outside, murmuring I think but I couldn't make out what it was. But it slowly got louder and more prominent where I could clearly hear the conjoined voices of many people.
My mother's demeaning voice shrilly calling me names, my father's deep voice encouraging her my brothers's voices saying that I'm not their sister at all and then another voice unidentifiable saying that I need to come home. But I didn't know where home was.
I tried to say that but the voices wouldn't stop they just kept getting louder and louder and more forceful then when the voices reached their climax another voice a male voice, came in gently saying "Be calm my child all will be well you fill find your home."
After the voice concluded all the other sounds faded away and I sept in peace.
When I woke up I felt soggy crusty grain underneath me and saw small pools of water around me. Shaken and disoriented I looked around my surroundings frantically and was startled to discover that I was still on the beach where I had fallen asleep the night before.
"Shit!!" I exclaimed and quickly jolted up, dusted off my clothes and after retrieving my shoes I had kicked off I high-tallied it out of there and headed home.
It was still dark out as I left the beach so I hadn't been out there long but still being out there at all after dark was very bad. I pulled out my phone from my back pocket and breathe out a sigh of relief when I saw it was not quite midnight. I had only been out there for about three hours.
At the edge of the beach I stopped and turned back to take one last look behind me at the ocean shore. The tide was in and the waves crashed heavily on the shore almost reaching the spot where I once lay. I shuddered at the thought of how close I had become to being soaked and possibly swept into the sea's violent depths.
But the thing that shook me the most was not the water but what was above it. The moon was huge; I had never seen it so big before in my life or so close to the ground either and it wasn't even quite full yet. It was so beautiful and bright in the midnight sky.
Looking at it I felt a strange tug in my stomach and was drawn to the shimmering brightness reflected in the water's crest below.
I thought about my dream with the voices and the last one saying I would find my home and for some reason the ocean just felt right to me. Strange that I would feel that way since my entire life I avoided it and all water like the plague, but I didn't care anymore I just had to go there.
As if I were in a trance I began walking back to the beach. Not knowing what was drawing me there but just knowing I had to go there.
I slowly approached the ocean shore calm watching the pounding of the waves on the sand. I was right at the edge of the shore, the salty water just inches from my bare feet. I looked up at the moon once more and it glistened in the dark, sparkling brightly and without a second thought I lifted my foot and stepped into the salty foamy water.
It felt so good. The water ways neither hot nor cold but perfectly in the middle. I can't believe that for eighteen years I had refused to ever step into the water before, it was incredible. The way the foamy waters caressed my legs, the gushy sand between my toes, it was heavenly.
Feeling compelled by an unimaginable and inconceivable force I stepped further into the murky depths of the dark cerulean sea heading to my destiny.
I kept walking into the water getting deeper and deeper until the crest of the waves hit my chest and I couldn't go any further or I would be completely submerged under water.
I stopped walking then and just enjoyed the feeling of the crashing waves around me and the gushy sand beneath me. Tilting my head back to dip my hair into the water I gazed at the moon shining directly down on me.
Strangely, it seemed to become brighter and brighter as it reached its highest point in the sky. I was so lost in the moon's vibrant light I didn't notice the water start churning and the waves increasing in height and strength around me or that the water began to glow where I was standing.
I felt a sharp piercing pain in my lower legs that spread from mu feet all the way up to my hips and back down again.
Never in my life had I felt suck pain before. It was indescribable and unimaginable. I gasped out at the pain and my strength loud my strength faded completely sinking me under the water. I tried to force myself up but I couldn't. I wasn't strong enough and I sunk and felt the heavy waves crash over me keeping me under.
The pain in my legs spread to my chest and head and I felt like I was going to burst. Keeping my eyes open I saw the water swirl around me in cupping me in a cocune.
I must have been delirious because the water was sparkling and shining as it swirled around me surrounding me in bubbles.
The water pulsated around me once more going from the tip of my toes to the crown of my head paying special attention to my lower body, my legs and stopped.
I was still trapped under though, my legs refused to move. I guess that's what I get for refusing to get in the water my entire life.
When I thought I couldn't go anymore the piercing pain faded and I shot up gasping the sweat air coughing out the salty water from my lungs.
Still panting and reeling from the panic of being under water I sprinted as best as I could out of the water and collapsed in a heap onto the sandy grimy shore. I was never as grateful to be in the crusty ground as I was now.
My legs were tingling still and felt funny, not like anything I had ever felt before. Lying back on the sand trying to soothe my breathing and heart rate, I dried out my hair ringing out the salt from my tangled locks.
Something strange was going on, something abnormal and I had to figure it out.
I knew I had to get home now. Not just to get cleaned up but I had some questions I needed answered and only one person, or well four, could answer them.
And this time I'll get the complete story. I was done living in the dark I needed answers and I would get them now.
