The werewolf is kind of like Bigfoot, but older, and more wolfy. Like most widespread cryptids, they have a metric ton of variants, and regional names.
The werewolf is often depicted as a ravenous, cursed beast, hunting indiscriminately under the full moon, but I saw an explanation somewhere that said that they might've just had the munchies.
The werewolf usually transforms under the full moon, and is a generalist carnivore. They  eat anything they can catch.
These days, the werewolf is considered a fictional beastie, but in ye recent centuries, people were killed because they were suspected of being a werewolf.
Suspected werewolves are still being 'reported' in modern times.
