Chapter 24

Illaria Point of View

'Everything's arranged.'

'Great, make sure to keep an eye on everyone and don't let anyone leave the place.'

After giving my orders to my people who are hiding in shadows, I leaned back on the simple yet comfortable bed in my tent and closed my eyes for a bit to give them some rest.

Now, it's just the play of time!

I'm almost sure that everything odd happening here has SkyGod hand in it. And I'm more than certain that among us, among Allard employees, there lies a SkyGod snake waiting patiently to bite everyone with his poisonous fangs.

Now the challenge is to wait tolerantly and see who might this villain be.

But then again, I don't seem know what role does Disco ball play in this whole façade. He seems to be acting a lot stranger these days than before.

At first, I thought he has something to do with the villain SkyGod but all the hints proved me wrong. He might not be in the same team as those mad people.

He looked pretty repulsed by those villains and that it didn't look like he is faking it.

So, for now, he can be crossed out from the villain list. However, that man is not as simple and silly as he shows himself to be.

Excluding him, I have my doubts on a few people from my company. I can only wait until the SkyGod's manipulation in the weather here and know who is more anxious to get out of this place.

If we could catch that person alive, I'm pretty sure we will have the whole SkyGod problem under the curb.

However, I'm unable to assume the reason for SkyGod to bring a disaster upon us in the camping grounds.

Shouldn't they be trying to wait for my geoengineering project to complete so they can steal it?

If anything happens to us, they will be on the losing end. No matter how deeply I think about it, I'm unable to think of their reason for targeting us at this point of time when the project is actually going in a full swing.

With several thoughts and ideas running in my mind, I was unable to take a nap for a very long time. It took me more than two hours to drift into a light sleep but was soon awakened by thunders and pitter patter of light rain outside.

And here it is!

I opened my phone and scanned the weather app, in which the weather stats have changed from earlier and now it shows that it is raining and is expected to rain for five to six hours from now.

I heard commotion from outside; guess they are startled from all the thundering and rain that they are shuffling to keep their stuff from getting wet.

Although we have great material for tents and are set up very well, one still cannot be very sure when it comes to nature.

Even more, when such nature is probably manipulated by humans.

The slow pitter patter of the rain falling on the tent grew and the rhythm of the water droplets falling increased.

The rain increased by a far margin in just the matter of half an hour. The thunders and lightening were so terrifying, the sky was covered with such thick and heavy dark clouds that it makes people fear that the sky is about to fall down.

I pulled out a raincoat and wore it before I carefully opened the tent zip and peeked my head out to see what's happening.

Disco ball's tent is opposite mine so it was quite easy for me to watch his movements. Not because I suspect him of evil but I feel like he is on the same side as me.

Suddenly, I thought of something and opened the messaging app, I scrolled down and found the name I was looking for.

'Devon, hi, sorry to disturb your sleep. Can we chat for a minute if you don't mind?'

A few minutes later, my message was seen by him and soon I got the reply from him.

'Are you alright? You should be on your company retreat, yes?' Thank God he replied back.

'Yes. Devon, I know you work in some kind of government agency, can you kindly help me with something?'

'Sure, if I can.'

Exhaling a sigh of relief, I told him my request and asked if it is in his capacity to help me with it. Only when he said he can try did I heave the breath out that I was holding in.

Surely, this place is going to be a danger zone so I cannot risk everyone's life just to catch the culprit.

But I can achieve both at the same the same time if possible.

I noticed that the lights in the extravagant tent opposite mine is lit and I saw a shadow waking around in the tent.

Disco ball too, with his raincoat on, peaked his head outside the tent and observed everything for a minute before getting inside.

I don't know if it's my eyes playing with me or the shadows of the night, but before he pulled his head back into his tent, I saw a small yet a cold smirk playing on his lips.

And yet again, that cold smirk was so familiar that I couldn't remember where I saw it.

"Ms. Allard, I think we should go back." Mr. Yarwood shouted, trying to make his voice reach me amidst noisy wind and thunders.

I waved my hand for him to come closer and when he did, I asked, "Where do you want us to go? I called the patrol team and they said that there is a landside on the way to the closest town. If we were to go anywhere else, the closest town on the other side is two hours away, which by the way, is also affected by the current weather. We have to transverse through mountain path to get there, which, in the current circumstances, is more dangerous than staying here."

"In that case, staying on the higher grounds is really better than going down the mountain." He pondered over and went away to pacify everyone.

Rain or thunderstorm in itself is not scary but the matter of it being possibly a man made one is what scared everyone.

Although I'm anxious, I'm not really scared because since the insect from SkyGod is still on the premises, the situation might not get too out of hand.

However, I realized that we have to suffer a little anyhow.

I closed the zip and tucked myself into the comforter and fell asleep quickly. For some reason, from young age, the sounds of thunders helped me with good sleep always.

Thunders have great power in making me slip into sleep very easily. So with its help, I literally slept like a baby.

The next morning, by the time I woke up up, it's already eight and there's lot of noise coming from outside.

The moment I took the comforter off my body, I felt chills all over from cold. It was so cold that despite having portable small heater beside me, it is make my spine shiver.

Quickly, I took out a thick jacket from my bag, wore it and wrapped a scarf around my head to prevent cool wind to trespass through ears.

By the sounds, it is clear that it's still raining cats and dogs, maybe heavier than last night.

After I walked out, the first thing I saw was the Mr. Jenson was coughing hard and beside him is Mr. Bane as usual, supporting Mr. Jenson's body from falling.

Mr. Bane himself is coughing and sneezing as he listened to what Mr. Yarwood and Lyra are telling.

A canopy was made over bonfire and many sat around it on the chairs to keep themselves warm from fire. The wind is so severe that the fire would go out in the matter of minutes for sure. I brough my coffee tumbler out and heated it over the fire before drinking the hot goodness.

"Ms. Allard, the temperature went down by a lot. It is not suggestable to stay here anymore. But there is no possible way to get out of here as well. If this goes on, we will get sick without any means." One of the employees complained.

"Pack your stuff and only keep the most essential ones out. Once the path to either of the towns is cleared, we can get out of here. Although, it might take at least a day to get a news about it." I spoke and clarified it for everyone.

I downed my coffee and then walked to Disco ball's tent. After calling out for him for more than five times, he opened the curtain for me and invited me inside with a disheveled hair and panda eyes.

One look at him and I can tell he had the best sleep of his life. I don't know what his secret is. It's so terrifying here right now and he was able to have such great heart to enjoy everything.

"Alarming, why are you here so early in the morning? Is the sun out yet?" He asked rubbing his eyes and yawning like an opened car trunk.

"It's already close to nine in the morning. Now, let me get to the point without any nonsense, do you have a way out?"

Disco ball drank a bottle full of water first think as he woke up and went out to relieve himself before he came back to answer me.

"What way out? Way out of my charm's maze?" He smiled naughtily at me and I felt like puking on his face.

"Way out of this predicament. Can you do something to clear the situation now?" If only I can punch this man!

He looked out again and thought for a moment before answering. "There are some chances but –"

"Great. Don't act already. I want you to work on it after you receive my signal." I told him briefly to which he smirked devilishly at me.

"Look who is being cunning here. Alarming, just between us, who exactly do you suspect?" I stared at him for a moment before giving him the name without any hesitation.

Hearing the name, he was surprised for a second before nodding his head thoughtfully.
