Chapter 6

"Who said there is no blessing in disguise? Science is a blessing to the mankind. We doctors are messiahs to infinity people. What else is required to prove the sanity of this quote?"
Darshan being as dramatic as ever had switched to argue mode. Guessing by the statement anybody could figure out of what he was arguing about; an idiom, which he tried to quote. Any idiot will only quote an idiom, and try building a sentence with it or you could say only Darshan could do that.

A blessing in disguise was the considerate idiom here.

Aryan enjoyed his junk pizza double coated with cheese completely zoning out to whatever Darshan was depicting about, not wanting any further disturbance in his peaceful meal Aryan pushed a plate filled with burger and French fries towards Darshan trying to switch his argue mode into appetite.

Darshan squirmed his eyes at Aryan till he could no more stop his eyelids from being shut and touching one other, almost losing the vision.

Nonchalantly he squat his burger still continuing with his glaring at Aryan, knowing that his friend wouldn't fall for any of his tactics finally Darshan give up, burying his head into the burger while Aryan just sighed and tapped open his laptop.

There was a knock on the cabin glass door, precisely twice.

"Come in."

Viona zoomed in with her I-pad; the cut apple clearly shining on the pad added more of an elegant look. Being the personal assistant of Aryan she came up with more of a professional attitude; always doing everything on time, perfectly arranged things for all sets of work and every time she was ready with a backup plan for any situation. There is definitely always a way around her but what Darshan always hoped was a cliché romance between his bestfriend and personal assistant so that the world could finally meet a real story instead of just in novels.

Smiling politely Viona started reviewing details about the schedule for the day, obviously which Aryan had just now went through in his laptop a few seconds ago.

"Dr Shetty, Miss Kiate asked me to specially remind you about your Skype with Mr. Chin at 2200 hours regarding the takeover of pharmaceutical branches in Mumbai."

Aryan nodded with a little laugh of how Kiate was still involved in his business even though it's been a year she shifted to the PR team; maybe it is true that old habits hardly leave you. After all she was his assistant before Viona had joined.

"Notify the hub for a plastic surgeon vacancy and ask Tulsi to get the OT ready for case A19 in five."

With the list of just received work Viona made her way out, her heels squinting the polished white floor.

By now Darshan was overly done with his burger and he had entirely forgot about the argument on disguise quote, like Aryan who has forgotten about Sejal after their last encounter about fifteen days back at the metro station.

"Why don't you hit on her?" Darshan asked cleaning the mess around the empty burger plate because he didn't want Aryan to start a lecture about cleanliness.

"Who? And you do know hitting may be considered domestic violence."

"Dr Anand's wife."

Aryan glanced at Darshan in astonishment after receiving such a dumb folding answer especially about how disregarded the domestic violence part completely. Those made Aryan think deep about keeping a tab on his friend because Aryan had no idea of Darshan chasing married woman these days.

"What the fuck Darshan? You know Anand is one of the trustees here and it would be professional banishing to even flirt with Mrs.Anand so just forget about shagging her."

"Oh! Man but she is sexy. By the way, I wasn't talking about her." Darshan exclaimed disposing the waste in degradable and non degradable pipes separately.

The degradable pipes were interconnected throughout the premises of RCSM which was piled up at the farm areas at the back of their complex for vermi compost; it was a flexible way to collect wastage in a place and use it efficiently. While the other wastage collected in the latter pipes were sent for recycling purposes.

"Who else would you be talking about?" Aryan asked trying not to get irritated because he has a surgery to perform in a few minutes.

"Obviously who just happen to leave your cubicle."

Viona. Is he nuts?

"Darshan for god sake don't complicate things for me. I respect her for how perfect she is at her work. Anyways I am leaving, bye."

Aryan didn't want to stain a professional relationship because of his stupid friend so he simply placed his laptop on Darshan's lap and dimmed the lights of the room to check review the reports of G7.

Darshan gave his best face screaming that I-want-to-enjoy-my-day-off, but before he could speak anything Aryan cut him.

"I think your review would be enough for the panel. I have my shift till 1800 hours so make it done by then."

Snapping his fingers like the last step in hypnotizing a victim Aryan left his cabin putting on his apron even shouting go back to your cabin to Darshan.

Darshan knew his puppy face is something irresistible but again Aryan was a devil and he always had his way.

"What the hell on earth is happening?"

Bling.

Bling.

"I think the neo lab broke!!"

Bleep. Bleep. Bleep.

Sccccrrreeeeeeccccchhhhhh.

"SHUT THE MAIN POWER. IT IS A TECHNICAL BLACKOUT!!"

It was chaos, made by the Alarms of all the different departments in the hospital.

The whole Block C came to a still. People didn't dare to move before any instructions were passed.

The smoke in the passageway made its way to the causalities leading to the continuous echoes of coughs from few patients.

The entire place felt like a picnic hotspot but instead of being all happy the people were shouting and hooting, this was surely going to be in the news for years of how RCSM became a place of fish market when it lost power supply.

"Please don't panic and cooperate. The power will be back in two minutes. Till then I request everybody to please switch on their torches." A female voice blared all around the floor through a honk speaker trying to calm down the situation.

As requested torches were lit and soon the major parts of the place was illuminated with the minimum lighting of flashes, could this be any other occasion the world would have witnessed one of its best flash mobs ever.

"D Bhuvish rush to the ICU now, Head nurse Mira report the north wing immediately. Dr Yuvaraj please report to OT number 4." The same lady kept passing the instructions for the next thirty seconds.

"Dr Sarah inform to A19 immediately.
Sister Richa please check the causality wards and send somebody to the ICU west wings also."

The lady kept screaming instructions as Dr Sarah made her way to the OT.

"Trust me Miss Seghal we can do it."
Aryan tried convincing Sejal about continuing with their operation because he could already calculate the post op remedies if more blood was lost.

"Continue supplying oxygen and dab the blood."

The nurse complied as Aryan had ordered.

Increasing the force of the dripper Aryan turned to Sejal who had a blank expression plastered on her pretty face, he had no idea she was his assisting doctor for the operation today that made him note to at least keep the information about his colleagues in the operation next time.

"There is no proper lighting, Dr. Shetty I suggest let's wait a few minutes."
Sejal surprised herself as she managed to say all that without strutting.

Aryan stared a second longer than necessary into the hazel pool of innocence now filled with fear, and turned to pick the pair of scissors. Within a second Sejal pulled them back and placed it on the tray.

"Dr. Shetty I am not going to let you do this." She whispered firmly making the cocky CEO realize how even her whisper was authoritative and it sounded much sexy also because no one generally orders him, not even Dr Shravan Bhattacharya.

Aryan shut his eyes scolding himself mentally and trying to focus, not understanding where was all these non sense coming from.

"Miss. Sejal please don't make things difficult now. We have to cut his artery and in ten minutes if we don't stitch him back blood will be lost and he has VWB."

"I know. I have his reports."

"Get hold of yourself. You are a bloody doctor Miss Seghal." Aryan was almost shouting but controlled himself well, seeing the depth of the situation that wasn't going to do any improvement.

Sejal closed her eyes trying to get hold of her esteem.

I can do it. I am a surgeon. I need to save a life. Sejal repeated these lines in her head to concentrate on the pressurizing hour of duty.

"Let's do it."

Tulsi; the nurse in charge of the room switched a single bulb which luckily had a manual connection. Dim light spread revealing the blood surfaced sheets more clearly making Sejal realize how stupid she has been about delaying the stitching.

Aryan immediately spanned into action and started with more cutting wherever it was required. Sejal helped although very nervous all the time, but still kept calm and worked on with pace.

After two nearly minutes a doctor barged into the OT heaving fast breaths. Sejal passed the sterilized needle while the just arrived doctor made her way to grab another needle.

"We are almost done stitching. Please check on the reports Dr Sarah."

"Complete the stitching Dr Seghal."
A beat skipped Sejal's heart, for unknown reasons maybe by the cold way Aryan just referred her.

She was nervous again, but thankfully the lights were back. With all the energy she could conserve Sejal took the needle and started finishing up as Aryan moved back claiming the oxygen pump issue due to change in electric charges.

"Dr Shetty, keep maintaining the blood pressure accurate."

"Okay Dr. Sarah, but what is this power shut down about?"

Aryan watched Sejal standing all blank staring at the patient; he realized she wasn't breathing immediately he gave a tap on her back asking her to breathe.

Oxygen hit Sejal's dried up lungs making her curse inwardly for not breathing all this time, and it felt more embarrassing that Aryan had to command her in breathing. Sarah left the OT completing her required procedure.

Controlling her breathing Sejal turned towards the nurse.

"Sister-"

"Complete the formalities."

Aryan completed the sentence as Tulsi left with the O+ blood packets while Sejal tried controlling her shaking body.

Heat radiated into Sejal's body spreading warm blitz in all the corners of her body organs. At once her body shuddered due to the sudden warmth intake. Her body responded positively liking the heat which helped her in stop shivering.

After a moment Sejal realised the source of the warm heat. Her head was against a hard chest, her body was acting against her own mind as her hands made their way to the back and gripped the shirt of Aryan tightly, her nails digging deeper almost hurting his skin. Peacefully Sejal inhaled the same rain perfume again but this time it was doing a great job as she could feel her body absolutely calming down.

Somebody should definitely pray for the time to stop forever for this perfect moment.

Consciousness hit Sejal making her realise she is hugging her boss that too to actually calm her down. Wrong. The CEO hugged Sejal to calm her.

Sejal wanted to pull back but suddenly the intensifying hug made her feel challenged. He had started this so better he ends it. On the other hand even Aryan matched with her thinking officially declaring a challenge by holding her even closer.

The embrace was amazing as electricity jolted down her veins keeping her body stay calm and she wished this could never end. Everything was perfectly amazing.

Except for Sejal realizing how perfectly wrong this is all.

She didn't want to become one of that employee's who seduces her boss for a better post. Thinking about the contrary after their last meeting she never thought the next they would meet embracing each other.

Her traitorous body then reminded her of how she is supposed to stay away from a womanizer like him; maybe this is another of his tricks to pursue her into his sexual activity contract.

Immediately Sejal pulled back from the perfect hug destroying the moment completely.

"Calm down. I can't waste my money on somebody who loses her nerves watching the CEO." Aryan said in a monotone obviously smirking like a devil to which Sejal wanted to hive back a commendable reply but her conscious reminded that this also maybe one of his tricks to gain her attention.

Also Sejal was expressionless, speechless and emotionless to hit him back with an answer. This was definitely not her time.

"Meet me at the briefing at 2000 hours."
Like always having the last say Aryan left the OT leaving a blank Sejal.
