The voice chose to ignore her. When she started paying attention to the conversation, everyone was staring at her again.
"What?" she said quietly.
"We were asking you what you thought about the plan," said Hero.
"Let's just say hypothetically I wasn't listening, what was the plan?"
Evyn sighed and Lo explained. "Hero let us know that it's on top of the South tower, and the entire building is crawling with demons. So Ava's going to fly me to the top as a distraction to get all the demons to the roof while you and Evyn come in from the bottom of the tower and make your way up while clearing a path. After that, Evyn and Ava seal the door and we bring all these people here to Cloud 8."
"Sounds like a plan," Tetra said.
Evyn said, "Ava won't be going anywhere for a while." As if to prove her point, Ava began snoring softly.
"Let's go up to my apartment then," said Tetra. The 4 of them entered the elevator and went up to her floor. Once they got to the door, which was already ajar, they saw that there were people staying there as well. Evyn laid Ava on the vacant couch while Tetra explored the contents of her former home.
Most of it was the same, except for the painting with her family on it. Her younger brother was still there, but her parents were gone. The reality set in and she sunk to the floor, hugging her knees.
After about 10 minutes had passed, Lo happened to walk in on her. "What's wrong, Tet?"
"They're gone," she said. "My parents. Only Quint is alive."
Lo sat down with her and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "We have to have hope that they're okay. You can do that right?"
"I don't think think I can."
"Then let me help you."
Tetra stood and ripped the painting from the wall. "It's done. Ava should be rested by now."
Lo grabbed her arm. "No, Tet. You need to face your problems."
She turned, her eyes a dark amber color. "We don't need to face our problems until we save these people. Do you understand, love?"
Lo's face darkened. "What's going on?"
Her eyes returned to normal. "Nothing." She ran out of the room, ignoring the gazes of the refugees and even Evyn as she left the building to sit outside on a bench in the front.
Her head was pounding with a headache, so she drew her sword and stared at it. The purple flames calmed her mind.
"Leave the door open," said the voice again.
"Why?" she asked it aloud.
"Power."
"That's not a good reason."
"It is."
"Leave me alone."
"If you say so," said Lo. Tetra turned and saw him walk away.
"Wait, Lo, I wasn't talking to you!" She watched him enter the door, then looked down at the ground in defeat.
