Chapter 26

Somto and Nene's mom sat in the lobby beside the operating room for the whole three hours while the neurologist operated on Nene. Somto cried into his palm, wondering how he got wrapped up in such a situation. It was only three 3 o clock in the morning,  if not that Dr O'Brien was an old friend,  he had no idea how the event would have turned out by that time.

What if he hadn't risen up to urinate? Would he have noticed the signs? Memories flashed through his mind,  from Nene's ragged breathing and how he had tried waking her to no avail.

"Somto!" He heard Amazing coming from the other end of the hall with Bamidele. She called shortly after he noticed his wife's condition. Apparently she left over six missed calls on his phone and Nene's phone.

Amazing had a bad feeling about Nene,  just like the one she had about Fisayo!

"Madam you can't be here,  only family members"  A nurse stopped and she pointed at Somto,  "She's her sister" Somto answered without thinking much.  The nurse then permitted the both of them to come in to the operating room.

"Mama" Amazing hugged Mrs Chinelo,  "I'm so sorry about this" "Look at my daughter struggling for her life in there! Who is this  evil person?" "She'll make it alive Ma,  I'm sure she will."

"Good morning Ma" Bamidele greeted and she waved her hands carelessly,  "Hm" she was too tensed to pay attention to anyone.

"I hope you guys don't mind me bringing Bam Bam,  I couldn't drive alone by this time"

"It's fine" Somto answered and Bamidele walked up to him,  "Hey man. How is she? What did the doctor say?"  "He said,  she had blood clot in her brain, when we brought her in she was almost not breathing but they managed to resuscitate her. We discussed the procedure risks" He broke into tears,  "He said my wife has a very low chance of survival"

"God forbid!" Amazing snapped her finger,  "I reject it in Jesus name"

"He said even though she survives,  he's not sure she'll be normal. I don't care,  I just want my wife to be okay"

Amazing paced around praying aloud,  "Whose report shall we believe except yours oh Lord,  we stand and we counter,  we stand and we counter all evil report" she paused bursting into tongues.

Bamidele felt a weird atmosphere, it was thick and wicked almost as though he could touch it. His head increased in size and he wondered his reason for the goose pimples. He turned to his side to see a ragged figure walking towards the operating room.

He blinked his eyes and opened it to be certain he wasn't imagining things,  it was still there slowly making it's way. Bamidele found strength from nowhere, he stood by the door looking towards it.

"You're not going anywhere" he said expecting others to look at him but they didn't almost as though he was invisible.

The figure raised his brow,  "How can you see me? " He stretched his hands to touch him to affirm of he is a ghost and Bamidele scoffed,  "If you touch me,  you'll definitely get burnt and that I promise you" he smirked and the figure scoffed,  "Are you not human,  how can you see a spirit?"

"I guess when you interface with the spirit above spirits, you become a spirit yourself"

"I am not here for you"

"And who are you here for, Nene?"

"Her soul is on high demand,  I am here to complete the job"  "This one is untouchable,  you can't kill her" "You don't know who I am"

"I don't know who you are but i know for sure that your fashion sense in horrible and you smell like rotten corpses,  have you heard of body spray? I'm sure if they're sending you on spiritual errands they can as well send you to Shop rite to steal a perfume. Baba, quite honestly I don't care who you are but one thing I'm sure of is that you're not touching this woman. She's God's anointed one"

The figure laughed,  "Who anointed her?" "I believe Jesus did but if you want a physical anointing,  I anoint her in the name of God the Father,  son and spirit"  "You know I can actually appear in that operating room"

"Wow... You can appear but you had to exercise your legs,  how does that make sense to you? But again on second thought God chose the things we think are foolish to shame them that feel they are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world in order to shame the things that are strong; Except God wanted me to see you and you've been noticed so show's over,  you can go back home"

The figure charged forward,  forcing Bamidele used his sandals to draw an imaginary line on the floor,  "I dare you to cross that line" "And who are you challenge me?" "Baba, i don't need to start showing you my CV,  this is not an interview. We'll know when you cross the line" he laughed pushing his tongue out then he looked away sharply before glancing back at him.  

"In fact,  I've changed my mind,  cross the line,  cross now" he begged and the man vanished in flames.

Bamidele blinked his eyes touching his forehead,  Amazing was still speaking in tongues. He wondered what the hell just happened. Was he in a trance? He rose up then joined Amazing in praying.

Phyna shook her legs violently on the chair staring at Benefit who was in her worship room. "Are you not going to see your friend?" "Aren't you supposed to be on a mission?" "I'm not going,  you guy sent a spirit and he left in fear. In as much as I like Bamidele an all and I'll like to seduce him,  I like my life too. Shebi you're going too,  so do it yourself." She was asked to dressed as a nurse and inject Nene with a substance to rid her since spiritual methods were proving difficult.

"Or am I the only one you guys saw? Are you not going to the hospital? They called you thirty minutes ago? You're being careless,  you're opening yourself to being a suspect,  I hope you know"

Benefit feigned an innocent face,  "I'm sorry,  i couldn't leave without feeding Adetutu" "I'm going to advise you as a friend,  let this matter go. You've done enough damage already, Nene will be paralysed and dumb forever, Fisayo will get mad eventually. You have Jeff"

"And no Adetutu...... Amazing is still fine"

"You've accumulated their organs already,  Amazing's womb is half destroyed,  she's a walking childless woman and she doesn't even know! You have Fisayo's brain, what do you want now that we can't touch their lives. This is getting dangerous than it was in the beginning"

Benefit picked some ants now throwing into a water. "What's that?" "Yemisi's bladder"

After three hours, the doctors came out exhaustion clearly written on their faces. "Obrien how far?" Somto asked and he exhaled,  "We managed to stabilize her and remove the clot" "Eh hen?" Somto added waiting for a response but the doctor exhaled again. " Guy... No use me act Nollywood movie,  what's wrong with my wife "

"For now,  she's in coma"

Somto placed his hands on his head,  "Hey!"  "As I'm talking to you right now,  she has stroke and she's paralyzed. We don't know the extent of paralysis until she wakes up, that's if she wakes up" "Guy I go throw you punch oh. Don't ever say that again! She'll wake up,  my wife will wake. Don't even say  this in front of her mother"

Bamidele and Amazing leaned on the wall conversing about the spirit he saw in his trance. "I'm sure that was God giving you strength to ward that evil off" she whispered then she sucked her teeth,  "But this people are relentless oh"

  "God has already given us victory,  the question is who is responsible for this evil?" He asked,  "If God can just reveal the perpetrator to us" he said out loud then  Benefit walk towards them. She was dressed in an ankara top with butterfly sleeves,  on a black trousers.  "Where's she?" She asked and Bamidele arced his brow.

God Is this a coincedence he asked  within

"Hey Amazing" she hugged her then waved at Bamidele,  "Hey Bammy. I'm sorry I'm late, I had to deal with some new tribal marks on my back an hand,  i had to prepare breakfast for my daughter,  I couldn't leave her that way and traffic" She groaned.

"Benefit I totally understand. How is Adetutu?"

"She's fine, she had been peeing in bed and I've been cleaning it. A girl that was fine moments ago, it still feels like a nightmare" "I'm sorry. Are they still tearing your skin?" "It gets worst each day" she raised the butterfly sleeves of the ankara revealing the mark. "Jesus!" She muttered touching it and and Benefit cringed moving back  "The pain... Is something else. I don't know when this will be over" "Very soon B..."

"I can't wait. Look at me dumping my problems on you. How is Nene?" "She's in a coma" Amazing replied and Benefit exhaled in frustration,  "Oh My Gosh! What's going on? What do they want with us? Haven't they suffered us enough?" She complained meanwhile Bamidele had the confused look plastered all over his face.

"What is it Bamidele? You look like you've seen a ghost. Are you okay?" Benefit asked and he shook his head,  he didn't even know the right response to give her. Afterwards she made way towards Fisayo. "Fisayo! I heard what happened" She cried embracing her.

Amazing couldn't help but notice his look and the way his eyes trailed strangely on Benefit,   "What is it? You're acting strange" "Don't you notice something strange about Benefit?" "Like what?" "I don't know,  I can't put my finger on it"

Yemisi rose up weakly from a chair,  "I want to ease myself" "I'll join you" Amazing said looking at Bamidele,  "Let me go before I urinate on myself."

Amazing stood above the water closet,  her legs spread apart urinating,  she has never liked sitting on public toilet before she'll carry strange disease! As if she hasn't been through enough. "I cant wait for the day when I'll only be coming to the clinic for maybe antenatals and not because of one emmergency" she said out loud.

Yemisi shut her eyes trying to contain the pain she was feeling from urinating. When she couldn't endure,  she looked down at the bloody toilet water then she screamed out and Amazing rushed into toilet in fear,  "What happen?" "Blood,  I'm urinating blood"

"Jesus!"

Somto sat on the bed staring at his wife. Nene, still alive, was lying on her back, mouth open, she had eyes closed, tangles of tubes giving her oxygen. Her entire body was affected, her face was slack to the left. Somto sniffled,  "Asanwa! Akwa nwa ( precious egg) My vegetable princess,  even coma cannot make you look less beautiful " he complimented wiping his tears off,  "Even if your lips bend facing Jerusalem,  I'll still kiss them" he joked laughing then he bursted into tears,  "If you can hear me Nene,  fight oh. Fight and come  back cause I have questions I want to ask. Although I dont know If you'll be able to talk. I dont care,  all I want is my wife back"

Benefit walked in and he quickly blinked his tears in,  "Hey" He said turning his head at her,  "Benefit,  how are you?" "Sad.... Can someone be happy about this kind of news?" "Mehn... It's well. Even in the well it's well"

"This kind of event can make someone question God. Where is he when all this was happening?" " Don't say that oh,  we can't question God cause him alone understands why things are like this. Even in the well,  it's well. My baby will make it out of this"

"I think you should take a rest and bathe"

"No. I cant oh"

"Why?"

"If Nene mistakenly opens her eyes and not see me,  she won't forgive me till death do us part. I want to be the first person she sees when she wakes up" "I only wanted to ease your pain"  She lifted her hands almost placing it on him when Blessing and Ema entered.

She waved her hands taking a sit on the chair,  "Now we're much to keep our friend company"

Fisayo walked down the hall then she squat from feeling pains on her leg. "Are you okay?" Bamidele asked stretching his hands at her and she grabbed it rising up. "Yes. I was just heading towards Yemisi's ward. It's just amazing how we now happen to have two patients now in the same hospital,  Uche is in another one oh"

"Are you sure you're fine?"

Fisayo rolled her eyes then she shook her head,  "My leg, this night I walked from Isolo to Egbeda. I woke up with my legs trembling,  I'm scared to sleep this night,  every night" she blinked her tears in. "Sometimes I wish they can just kill me and end the suffering"

"You sound defeated already"

"I feel defeated,  like some piece of shit awaiting judgement. They're using my leg to run marathon every night. How did you guy do it? You and Amazing? I'm using you guys at a point of contact oh,  God of Amazing and Bamidele,  come and do it for me too!"

Bamidele laughed,  "Are you interested in serving God or you just want to pray and Japa?" He asked and she rolled her eyes,  "It's pray and Japa oh" she replied and they both laughed, "Although I want this,  God knows I do but... Look at my life now,  do you know the things I've done? The .... The runs I've done"

"Have you met Bamidele Jones? I think I did more runs than you oh" he teased and she chuckled, "This one that I'm laughing when my two friends are sick"

"It's good to laugh over victories. Newsflash from God,  we won't lose anyone" "O'Shey! God's own reporter engaged to the PA to God himself. You guys were really meant for each other"  "Sorry if I came off like I was preaching" "It's your agogo that remains. Didn't you bring it?"

"No I didn't. I have to go now"

"Why? Is Amazing aware?"

"Yes. I have this vigil tonight and I had some engagements to handle. You guys take care oh. I don't want to go and find out you're being hospitalized too"

"Olorun maje! (God forbid!)" She snapped her fingers backward then he extended his hands at him and she held it feeling awkward about it,  "You're healed Fisayo in Jesus name"

"Amen" she muttered watching him leave.

Evening

Kwame frowned with his hands plunged into his pocket watching Yemisi talk to Amazing and Benefit,   he was angry the his fiancee hide the initial symptoms from him. It made him look like an idiot! "You could have said something" Amazing chastised holding her hands and Yemisi adamantly rolled her eyes.  "And what solution would you have proffer? Drinking anointing oil? What the hell? I didn't want to make you guys more worried. I never knew it'll get worst to urinating blood"

Amazing arced her brow,  "You never knew it will get worst,  wasn't that how my fibroid started? From severe menstral pain to heavy flow to fibroid and then to surgery. Your own won't be like that in Jesus Name oh"

"Amen oh" She replied looking over at Kwame who was still frowning,   "Who gave my fiancé bitter leaf to chew on?" She teased waiting to see his reaction but he gave none. "I know you're angry,  you're carrying face already"

"I'm disappointed Yemisi,  for crying out loud we're getting married in less than three weeks and you kept this away from me. How could you? That explains the reason why you've been sick"  "I'm sorry,  I'm very sorry"

"We could have done a test earlier,  the doctor said it might be a urinary tract disease or worst cancer" "God forbid!" Benefit screamed,  "Let's be positive" "Exactly!" Amazing agreed.

The doctor walked in, and they all turned towards her expecting some positive result, "Hey Miss Yemisi,  how are you feeling now?" "Tired, mostly tired" "Do you feel pains in your private right now?"

"No. I told you already Ma"

"Just checking, not all the test result are out for now. The tiredness Is probably as a result of the pregnancy and maybe stress" She announced to her everyone's shock. "What?" Benefit blurted out, Yemisi wanted to give her an askance look but she was still stupefied by the doctor's announcement.  

"Oh wait... You didn't know? You're two months gone"

Kwame smiled,  "Wait... Are you trying to say we're expecting a baby?" "Yes" She replied and he quickly walked up to Yemisi holding her hands,  "Is the baby in good health? Do you... Do you need to run an ultra sound,  I don't mind,  anything to make sure he's fine"

"He?" Yemisi asked and the doctor chuckled,  "The baby is fine" "I hope my constant urination won't have effect on ...him" she emphasized looking at Kwame and he laughed. 

"I can't say until I see the test result. Take care Miss Yemisi, Mr Acquah" she bowed her head leaving and Benefit faked a smile,  "Awwwn,  congratulations to the both of you" "The way you said the 'what' that time was as if we're fighting"

Amazing thought so too!

"I'm sorry I was just shocked. Congratulations guys..."

"Thank you,  at least the two of us are pregnant now, we might even give birth together oh"  "That will be so cute" she replied clearing her throat then she pulled out her phone from the bag, "Jeff wants a boy too" "Seriously?" Yemisi asked looking at her belly,  "With this your flat belle ehn,  your baby can be six months and someone will not even know." She joked and Benefit laughed nervously.    "I better go back home now"

"Yeah sure, Adetutu must need you now. Thanks for staying till now"  "It's what i do for friends that i love" she moved close to Yemisi kissing her cheek,  "Good night" "Good night Benefit" 

"Good night Amazing" Benefit hugged her and Amazing noticed her broken screen,  "What happened to your phone?" She asked and Benefit stared at it,  "Uh.... It fell" "When? You're always careful with your phone" "I don't think I've ever seen the screen of Benefit's phone broken" Yemisi chipped in laughing.

"She's an unapologetic perfectionist,  if thing don't go according to her plans ehn.... She won't be happy" she added and Benefit smiled,  "Don't mind Yemisi,  she's just exaggerating"

"She's not" Amazing disagreed then she rolled her eyes,  "Bye guy" She finally said she leaving the room. Amazing wondered why she sounded that way in the first place,  there's a difference between a happy "What?" and a disappointed "What". "Let me leave you two,  congratulations guys" she chipped in leaving the room for the couples. 

"Babe, I can't believe we're having a baby"

"I can't believe I got pregnant and I didn't know. I guess with all the problems on my head,  I got things mixed up"

Kwame held her hands kissing it, "This is the best news I've heard all day" "So now you're no longer angry shey?". He chuckled raising her chin up parting her lips with the gentle slide of his tongue, touching, tasting, savoring, and exploring hers. " I missed you"

"I miss you too"

"Not the sex,  I meant you being close to me, us being goofy. I can't wait for everything to get to normal" "What if they try to harm my baby?" Yemisi touched her belly and Kwame lifted her hands kissing her belly through the hospital gown she had on.  "Our boy isn't going anywhere,  let's continue being prayerful and positive"

Benefit stormed out of the hospital clenching  her teeth and fist,  she was fuming and hot with anger. How could she not have seen it? How was it possible? How could something like that by pass her? How could she have  been blind to see it?

Ema swiped through a long list of WhatsApp statuses of her friends,  there's nothing better than checking whatsapp status when you need to get you mind off your problem! Sometimes you get angrier but what worse could happen?

Bamidele gathered in a house along with other male member of the evangelism team. They had a vigil so they all decided crash at Brother John's house. His cousin walked past the sitting room escorting a girl out,  Brother John almost felt like burying his head in the bible before him.

"I think some of us need to preach to our brothers before we decide to preach to the world" Brother Olisa laughed hard slapping Bamidele's arm. "Is it this one you're laughing about? Someone that I've talked to and I'm tired,  my mouth don bend. It's fine to evangelize oh but I cannot be walking around with cuffs to force people to Christ. I have other headache in my life,  I won't want to add my cousin to it,  at the right time God will arrest him"

"There's always that part of not giving up too" Bamidele added,  "I mean if God doesn't give up on man,  why should we? Why should you give up on your cousin?" "Have you met Toju?" John asked shaking his head.

"This guy walks around the street and picks any girl he wants. They end up doing it in my house,  and I've complained times without number but all the cigarette he smokes keeps entering into his ears. I can't kick him out either,  his poor mother delivered him into my hands so I can take care of him" he shrugged in defeat,  "See ehn.... I'm not competing with God,  I'm not God! Let him live his life,  I'll be praying for him"

"Eweh!"  Olisa laughed throwing his head backwards,  Deligjt laughed too. "Evangelism cordinator!" "Eh hen?  Even the Bible says,  paul planted,  apollos watereth and God giveth increase. I have poured enough water,  let God do His part

"Oshey!"

Bamidele flipped the bible,  "The bible also spoke about not giving up,  I can't remember the chapter but It was among the messages I listened to last week. It says we should not get tired of doing good,  in due time,  we'll reap the fruit. What will be you excuse on Judgement day?" He asked and John laughed.

"I will tell God that I have fought the good fight of faith and I have kept the faith,  after all it's not someone's faith I was asked to keep,  it's my faith" he joked and everyone laughed.

"Jokes apart man..." John trailed off,  "I'm tired of the guy"

Toju walked in smiling,  "What's up guys.... Sorry I couldn't greet you,  i had to move with my babe with style before my cousin will shoot me" "Baba come and join us now" Bamidele suggested and Toju scoffed.

"Is this some set up?"'

"No,  join us" he answered then he sat down,  "How's that your babe now?" He asked and everyone raised their brow wondering why he asked that question In a gathering like that.

"Guy! You feel me shey? And besides.... I do it to save girls the stress of having to break girls heart an all. I can't seem to get enough of one girl, I broke my ex's heart because of my several cheating habit so I changed it from dating to just doing the do"

Bamidele laughed,  he could actually relate. "You need Jesus in your life!" His cousin shouted and he laughed hard,  "It's not as if I'm not a Christian oh, ask John now,  I grew up in the fold, there's nothing in this Bible that I don't know"

"What happened?" Bamidele asked and he shrugged,  "Reality. I'm one of those that tasted sex and never wanted to turn back. I've given my life to Christ oh,  I think like five times,  different altar calls but.... I kept going back so I just felt like to hell with pretense,  if my body wants sex,  let me give it all the sex it wants,  maybe someday I'll get tired like John did" he noted and John laughed.

"I think mine was like 10 altar calls,  I gave my life and collected my life back till the point that whenever I come out,  angels will turn their heads and be like,  'that unserious guy is out again oh,  let's bet, I'm sure his redemption will not last a day'" he joked to everyone's amusement.

"At some point I had to make a decision to stay away from sin. I've been celibate for one year and the Lord is still helping me"

"That's exactly what I'm waiting for,  to get tired then live a godly life and maybe get married"

Bamidele smiled,  "Purity is in mind,  it all depends on your dependency on the Holy spirit to help you.  This is my first time doing anything God like and I've been trying to overcome sin" 

Toju laughed,  "It's always hot the first time,  you'll be burning for God" "Exactly Brother Bamidele but you'll fall eventually" John added and Bamidele scoffed,  "I won't fall"

"I fell before finally giving  my life fully. I admire your vigour but you're just starting you'll at least fall once o twice. Imagine a whole Bamidele Jones, bad boy like you. You must have girl tempting you like.... You must chop and fall before rising up again"

Toju covered his lips,  "Fuck! Wait oh,  Bamidele Jones? Are you guys fucking kidding me? Bamidele Jones.... I swear,  with all these serious dressing I didn't even recognize you. Mehn... Do you know how many times I've seen you in clubs and wish to be like you. Jeez!... What happened?"

"I met Jesus"

Toju cleared his throat,  "This same Jesus or another Jesus" "I don't know about the one you met but I can tell you a thing or two about the one I met and how he can make you live a better life." 

He suddenly began to stammer,  "I don't understand..." He looked at the faces of everyone seated,  "Is he trying to make it look like I met another Jesus? Wow... You're good! "Think of it Toju,  I'm an old dawg and God has taught me new tricks. We Learn everyday Sir" he replied and he shook his head walking back into the room and everyone stared at Bamidele.

"Where you guys get Evangelism wrong is going with a judgemental mindset. When people bring products to us at Zenith Media to Market,  we don't judge on sight,  we do our research and aim at giving the products the quality popularity it needs to sell. These unbelievers and shaky believers are products too,  you can sit with them,  have a conversation or two,  know their experiences,  whether shitty or not and then bring the Jesus deal to them. Bassey got back from work to the smell of Afang soup, he wondered if Kommie had brought it from home. Kommie walked up to him,  "Welcome back,  brother Bassey" "Did you bring soup from home?" "No. Tara is here,  she cooked it personally. I told her not to bother but she was hell bent on doing it and I also woke up with an Afang craving so I was like what the hell? Let her do the hard  work. Who does not like free food?"

He laughed rolling his eyes. "Would it look bad if i eat it?" "Don't worry, I'll set the table and stand guard for poison alert" she whispered and then Tara stepped out. "Welcome back home Baby" "Baby?"

"Don't worry,  you'll get used to it soon"

"Tara we're not dating,  I'm still very much with Fisayo"

"Not if she runs mad again" she muttered and he scoffed,  "What did you say?"

Tara laughed moving close to him,  "Nothing,  I said nothing. I made home sliced afang,  afang ufog. My Aunty got back from the village,  she brought this enangha (smoked cat fish). The food tastes divine. Do you think that Yoruba woman will be able to do that for you? Please! Just go in,  take a shower, and the food will be ready in no time"

"It's late already"

"I don't mind staying back,  I can wear Kommie's cloth or nothing at all anyone you prefer "

Kommie looked away,  "I'll go set the table" she rushed off and Bassey shook his head,  "You're not sleeping here. I'll order a ride" "I won't feel safe" "Don't worry,  I'll drop you off" "What?" "Yes I will,  i don't have any problem with that,  I'll drop you off"

8:35 pm

Amazing sat on the chair, watching Taaoma's comedy skit on you tube. Suddenly she felt a gust of wind blow into the room. She looked over at the window which was very much shut. Suddenly the wind flipped her Bible which was on the top of the cupboard truck.

She grabbed the bible and her eyes fell on Isaiah 62:6 .

I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,

7. And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth

Then she tapped Yemisi who was asleep,  "Hm Hm"  She replied with her eyes still shut. "Yemisi! We need to watch right now" She tapped her again now moving on to wake Kwame.

Benefit summoned Yemisi's fetus in a calabash bowl. "Awwwn,  look at the poor thing. Thank you,  at least the two of us are pregnant now, we might even give birth together oh" she mimicked Yemisi,  "It's the nerve for me! Fool! Urgh! So your mom can get pregnant and I can't. You'll die,  like the rest" she held a knife to it but it stopped at the tip of the amnion fluid,  it couldn't go past it."

"What the... Okay... Calm down Benefit,  if we can't kill the baby at once..." She moved towards a small gourd then she picked it pouring some ants over the fetus and they all got burnt.

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck you!" She threw the whole thing away,  "There has to be way,  there has to be a way,  there has to be a way. Think Benefit,  Think,  think,  think" She muttered when she heard baby cries.

"No! Is that..... I'm not going mad am I?" The cries became loud from various angle. "No!" She screamed covering her hears,  "I had to do it!" She dropped her hands,  "I couldn't have you at such age! Oh.... You could have all grown up ..Stop whinning! It's been what? Several years already!" She screamed back as though responding to the cry.

"Oh! You're talking too! I saved your life if you don't know!" She laughed pointing to herself. "Did you just call me your Aunt? Oh shut up! I saved you from being raised by a careless mother. Your mother didn't deserve to be a mother,  I can never be a mother myself! What are you saying?" She paused then she kissed.

"Rubbish! Read my lips,  rubbish! Urgh! All your stupid whinning,  if I hear any more.... and you too? Okay,  let's hear what you have to say" she scratched her cheek,  "Oh,  I pushed you down the stairs and you're angry,  Get over it! I'll kill you all over and over again! The cries became louder and she fell down covering her ears.

Bamidele walked towards Toju's room on being instructed by God. He knocked and Toju answered from inside the room,  "Who is that?" He sounded disappointed.  "It's me Bamidele" "What do you want?" He asked,  "Can we talk?" He requested and he opened up sweating,  he in boxers only.

"It's just 11, are you guys no suppose to be praying all night?"

"Hey!" He exhaled then he walked in so Bamidele followed him in. "Did I interrupt something?" "Yes... I was... watching a movie"

Toju scoffed,  "I just feel like I'm dreaming. I mean you're Bamidele fucking Jones,  Lagos play boy. Women flock around you. How will you cope?" "God has been helping me,  I don't know how I've been able to cope,  I've literally witnessed temptations but God has been helping me. I refuse to fall,  what I'm enjoying from God is more than sex"

Open up are you okay? Bene" She called out. After a minute,  Benefit opened up without her wig on,  she had a corn row weave on her head. "Hey!" She faked a smile and the lady tried to peep into the sitting room to see if there were anyone with her.

After all she has been hearing her scream 'Shut up,  leave me alone!',  it possibly can't be to a ghost,  there has to be someone!

"Who's at home with you?"

"Nobody"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. What reason will I have to lie to you? Instead of poking into people's business,  I'll suggest you mind your own business" She snapped brewing an awkward silence between them.

She has never seen Benefit this rude!

"I'm sorry about that" she apologized slapping her face,  "I'm not in a good mood,  i was on a call with my fiancé,  I was having a heated argument with him"

"You were so loud, you woke my children up, i even thought you were with someone"

Benefit waved her hands laughing nervously,  "It was just an arguement. I'm not exactly having a good day" "That makes the two of us" "How is Olu and Ireti? I saw them was it three days ago or so and for a moment I began to wonder,  how long I've been gone for,  they long so grown up" she explained creating a diversion from the fact she was rude.

"They are fine dear. How are your friends?"

"They are fine"

"I heard Amazing is getting married,  I saw it on Ema's status at first and when I went to church, she was preaching and the guy made it obvious. Las las,  all of you will just get married at the same time. You'll do mass wedding" "Thank you" She faked the smile and she the lady peeped one last time,  "Good night now but keep the voice down"

"Good night" Benefit replied shutting the door then the woman walked into her apartment, the next building close to hers staring at her husband,  "What's up? Will she now allow us sleep in peace?"

"She said she was on a call with her fiance, something about being in a bad mood but I dont buy it." She huffed picking up her phone,  "What are you doing?"

"Calling the only person that's like a sister to her" She dialed Amazing's number.

"Her twin?"

"No. Have you seen them fight?" "Who are you calling then,  are you sure you shouldn't leave her? Shebi she said"

"I don't believe her,  if she needs help, her friends should be in good position to help her"

"Hello" Amazing's voice was hoarshish from praying. She was with Mrs Chinelo,  Ema and Somto in Nene's private ward. The two were already asleep on a white thermoplastic chair. She didn't understand how they could both be comfortable on it,  especially Mrs Chinelo.    "Are you okay?" Glory asked and she nodded,  "Sister Glory,  how are you?" "I'm not fine oh,  it's a sleepless night thing oh"

"Hope no problem"

"Is it not your friend Benefit?"

Amazing blinked her heart thumped in fear,    "What happened to her? Is she okay?" "I don't know oh,  she has been.... Since like  before 9 pm,  she has been screaming the whole compound down" "I don't understand"

"Even me,  I don't understand,  shebi I was peeping to see if I'll see any other person but I didn't. She said she was on her phone with her fiance,  I don't know what might b going on but my spirit was just destabilized,  I just felt she needs help. She way she looks these days self,  she's different,  rushing in and out. Sometimes we don't see her coming self,  almost as though she appeared inside"

"Ah han!" Her husbands snapped,  "It's you that know" "I said almost as if... I didn't mean she disappeared,  how can somebody disappear?  I'm just making an analogy. Sister Amazing,  I hope you understand what I meant"

"Yes."

"Maybe she's going through things,  even of it's with her boyfriend,  that shout was too much,  some of the things she was saying...."

Amazing shut her eyes,  "Like what?" "Shut up! Leave me alone! Stop crying into my ears!   My children were even the first to hear her screaming then they called me. At first we didn't do anything,  we thought the noise will reduce but it didn't. Even if it's relationship issues,  she needs help okay?"

Amazing agreed,  "Yes. Thank you for calling,  how are the children?" "The are asleep oh,  it remains honey and I" "Thank you for the information,  I'll do something about it" "I trust you oh! Take care now,  good night"

"Good night Ma" Amazing responded as the call ended. She instantly called Jeff,  "Hey Jeff?" "Good evening Amazing, how are you?" "I'm fine. How's Benefit?" "She's fine but she's not here in case you're looking for her. She went to the house"

Amazing scratched her head,  "Did she say anything in particular she went there to do?" "No. She's free to do anything she wants,  I love and trust her" "That's really sweet Jeff. You guys didn't involve in any arguments did you,  that must have made her leave. I hope you're not making my friend angry"

Jeff laughed,  "I've never made her angry. We don't argue for long Benefit,  we love each other" "That's sweet. How's Adetutu?" "She's here beside me" "Any improvement?" "No." "Shouldn't you guys take her to a specialist?"

"She's fine Amazing"

"I just think"

"It's not your business Amazing,  don't tell me how to take care of my daughter" he snapped then ended the call. Amazing stared at her phone in horror, she has never seen Jeff react that way,  she didn't understand why they took her from the hospital just a day after she got struck,  fine it was spiritual but any parent will want to do all in his power to make sure their daughter is fine.

Suddenly she remembered what Bamidele said that morning.

"What is it Bamidele? You look like you've seen a ghost. Are you okay? What is it? You're acting strange" "Don't you notice something strange about Benefit?" "Like what?" "I don't know,  I cant put my fingers on it"

"The way you said the 'what' that time was as if we're fighting"

"Is it just me or the network or everyone is happy except Benefit?" Nene asked,  "I can't hear her jubilating or anything"

Afterwhich she remembered the scene after Fisayo's deliverance....

"After a long night sleep,  a day off work tomorrow and we have a wedding next weekend to plan for. At least Fisayo is alright" "Yeah" "Except Benefit, I don't know how she's faring,  I tried calling her after Fisayo got healed but she hasn't been picking up my call"

Bamidele creased his brow in thoughts, 

"That's strange,  till now?" "Yes. This whole Adetutu thing is quite overwhelming, if it's not too much,  I can ask Pastor Tunde to pray for her tomorrow or we can go personally"

"Pastor Tunde said something hearing bad news about someone you all care about." He blurted out and she scoffed getting defensive,  "No way! How can you say something so preposterous? It can't be Benefit, she's the most fragile person I've ever met. She can't even kill a cockroach,  I mean for real,  she runs away when she sees people kill insects."

"I'm sorry,  I was just adding things together. I just think I doesn't make sense she wasn't at the house while the prayer was going on. Nene was there too. She was the only person missing and suddenly she's  not picking up your call,  maybe something misfired"

"Nothing misfired! It's not my Benefit, i trust her with my full chest,  i can vouch for me. Okay?" 

Amazing shook her head,  "Can it be?"

Bassey crashed in bed and his phone rang for the sixth time that night so he slipped It out from his pocket and a smile curled his lips,  "Good evening Sugar" he greeted and Fisayo rolled her eyes. "You had me worried,  do you know since when ive been calling you,  since yesterday evening"

"That's a lie"

"It's almost twelve,  pa pa let's call It morning already."

"I'm sorry. I couldn't pick,  you called me while I was driving,  I said I was going to return the call once I got back." He groaned,  "I just did" "Where did you go to? That you almost turned me to Iya Adura, the only thing left is for me to open a church center or Prayer house"

"So wa le to yen? (Has It gotten to that?)"

"Ah! O le like your..." She trailed off, "Like my what?" He engaged giving a mischievous smile so she laughed waving her hands,  "I'm a Christian now, I only think of good things. You this guy! Your mind is full of bad things!" She snapped and they both laughed.

"On a serious note! I was... worried. Why will you be driving this late?"

"I dropped Tara off"

"You what who off? Come again?" She asked and he scratched his head,  "Tara... She came" "Interesting,  kwantinue your story mister man,  let me prepare vawulence in advance"

"I met her at the house after I got back from work. She made Afang soup and I ate it" "You cooked and you ate it,  Lenu e,  she cooked and you ate, even if you did not fear me,  you did not even have the fear of God. She cooked and ate it,  with everything that has been happening,  what if she gave added love portion to the meal?"

Bassey laughed,  "Well I don't think it's working cause I'm still pretty much in love with you" he replied and she giggled,  "You just have this way of pressing my mumu buttons bah? Why did you drop off?" "Cause I knew she probably had plans to seduce me"

"Are you scared?"

"No. I just didn't want her around,  she said it was too late to order uber and I drove her off myself." "Wow,  you're heartless,  you're a mean man!"

He laughed nodding his head,  "I just miss you" "Me too. Don't worry,  when this is over,  emi naa,  I'll cook one bad and hot obe efo,  Efo Riro. Fisayo will say her snacks went to harvard,  my own Efo Riro has first class" "Wow" "You can say that again baby."

"I thought you can't cook"

"Dapada! (Back to Sender). Where were you when I started learning how to cook?" "Wait oh...." He switched into an Ibibio accent,  " It's like you have forgotten my age oh,  I am 35 years old"

Fisayo laughed, "Besides,  now that I'm back to staying with Mom,  it has been an added benefit. Shebi your Tara wants to pepper me with all these Calabar delicacy,  I'll show her i'm a Yoruba girl and we also have delicacies,  it's not only you guys that uses pot to cook ah han! I'll pepper her back. Don't worry,  let her cook,  it's her type we say well done to in our vote of thanks during the wedding"

Bassey laughed till the point of tears,  "God i miss you"

"I miss you more"

"How are you dealing with Nene and Yemisi's situation" 

"We're still at the hospital. No news yet"

Amazing stared at Nene then she sat on the bed holding her hands,  "Hey Nene,  Somto is sleeping,  he has been awake since. Nene I'm confused, Nene I'm so confused right now about a lot of things,  I should ask God but I'm scared of what he might say cause I'm scared of it being true. How did it get to this? Remember how we met? Since junior high school. Nene you are my oldest friend but your mouth was horrible that was why Blessing was there. You didn't want anyone coming to ruin our trio but I felt everyone had their special parts to play,  Fisayo was the group clown,  Yemisi was our spice,  Uche was competing with your bad mouth,  the two of you have never won an argument,  Ema was our tomboy and Benefit was the quiet one. She has been quiet Nene,  good,  well behaved" she busted into tears. "Nene I have questions,  thoughts running through my mind,  I'm having trust issues. I don't think I trust Benefit any longer,  Uche saw something that day,  I'm sure you did too. You're stronger than you think you are.... Please wake up in Jesus name and let me know what's going on" she begged sobbing quietly on the bed.

Nene opened her eyes, her eyes flickered around till she noticed Amazing whose head was on bed in tears. She wanted to call her by her name but she couldn't,  her speech was impaired. Her neck felt stiff,  she couldn't move It.  She wanted to lift her fingers but she couldn't.

She managed to garble some noises and Nene lifted her head up,  "Nene" she called out rising up the she turned towards Somto,  Ema and her mother.  "Thank you Jesus,  Somto! Ema!"

5:30 am

Bamidele entered into his house shutting the door,  his intentions were to take his bath,  change up and drive to the hospital but God had a different plan for him. He realized this after the bell rang.

Somto returned from the house bringing the wheel chair as instructed by the doctor. Nene laid in bed after several test,  she wasn't allowed to see visitor. Although she has been waiting for Amazing to come in. When she did her heart leapt for joy! Even her eyes smiled.

"I hope I can see her now" She asked the door and he sighed in uncertainty looking at Nene,  "She needs rest"

Nene blinked her eyes twice,  "You don't need rest?" he asked and she blinked once for yes. "You want to see her?" He asked and she blinked once.

"Okay." He replied looking at Amazing,  "Just be very careful about the topic you discuss with her,  her blood pressure is extremely high still,  she should be on bed rest.

"Yes doctor"

"For people with her type of stroke, of you ask a defined question, I already told her to blink once for yes and twice for no. Till she gets her speech back,  If she will,  that's the only way to communicate with her"

"Thank you doctor" Amazing replied then he walked out of the room. "Dont mind him,  you'll receive your speech in Jesus Name"

Amen oh! She answered within,  don't mind that stupid pessimistic doctor! I've never like him and he has never liked me too! 

Amazing held her hands,  "I don't want to move close to you,  I haven't brushed my teeth yet,  it'll be smelling"

Nene blinked once

Amazing scoffed and laughed,  "So it's smelling. You're not serious"

She blinked twice

"It's not? I haven't brushed my teeth oh"

You're not the kind to have bad breath!

"I've never been the kind to have bad breath sha but I still need to brush." Amazing answered holding her hands,  "I'm happy you're back,  even though not fully but I'm sure God will perfect your healing."

"Nene.... What happened that led to this? Was It a dream? I know you can't talk,  was it something you saw?"

Nene blinked once

"Was it ..... Was it one of us?"

She blinked once.

"Was it..... Benefit?" 

She blinked once again,  this time in tears.

"Oh my God!" She gasped.

Somto,  Mrs Chinelo,  Ema,  Benefit and Fisayo walked in except Blessing who had gone back home to prepare for work.  Benefit and Ema was already dressed up for work too.

Amazing rose up wearing a smile on her face,  "Guys.... Nene is fine through the grace of God." "My daughter" Her mother cried sitting the same place Amazing sat down. "Look at what you've become in a twinkle of an eye?" She cried and Nene cried too.

So this woman can cry for me?

"Thank God she's okay. I've been worried sick" Benefit said and Amazing almost threw a slap on her face. What did they ever do to deserve such wickedness! When did it start?

For fear of being discovered she mellowed and prayed to God to hide her thoughts and help her through this phase.

"How is Yemisi?"

Yemisi burst your head there! Waka! Foolish human being! Amazing,  don't be deceived oh! This one na Ekwesu!  Nene shouted within.

"Huh?" Amazing asked, "Yemisi,  how is she?" "When I went in,  she was changing bed sheet. It happened again"

Benefit shook her head,  "Her wedding is in three weeks,  what do they want from her?" She asked and tears poured from Amazing's eyes. Then she wiped it off immediately.

If only a thunder from God can just generously strike her dead!

"Your eyes are sleepy,  didn't you get enough sleep last night?" Amazing asked and Benefit scoffed,  "I was writing notes to make up for yesterday,  you know how I am"

"Yes! Definitely! I know. You don't want to be late for school oh. Lagos traffic will just delay you"

Benefit nodded looking at her wrist watch,  "I know,  I just wanted to see Nene and drop this food" She dropped a food flask  on the rack. "I made rice and stew,  lots of chicken in it! You all will love it"

"Thank you Benefit" Her mother answered,  "Very thoughtful of you"  "You're welcome Ma. I already gave Yemisi her own"

"Benefit will be tempting someone anyhow!  Are you sure I'll fast today like this?" Amazing teased and she laughed,  "Amazing,  if you want,  you can eat it. You're emaciating, I think it's best you eat,  if not for anything,  for your wedding gown at least"

Fisayo laughed moving close to Amazing,  "Your bucket has entered" she pressed the bones on her upper chest. "Benefit has a point oh"

Yes! Benefit always have a point! It's Benefit has a point that has brought us to this point! Nene hissed within. Abeg aunty  remove your fake yansh let me see that bitch's pretentious face.

It's God that will punish her for me! Hell fire will be too nice for her. 

"You should eat small so that your breast will be all packed again. Let Uncle Bamidele see the real package not the one that has sag because of too much fast! She teased and Somto shook his head,  " There's a man in the room oh! In case you guys forgot"

"I don't want to be late so bye guys!!! Mumcy,  Nene will be fine okay?" She feigned a smile before leaving the room with a frown. Amazing frowned too.

Tears welled up in her eyes.

"Let me see the food sef,  I'm hungry" Fisayo said and Amazing carried it the foodflask,   "Everyone is fasting today. We can't break just yet,  even if it's till twelve,  let's do it. Please,  I'm begging everyone" She begged, "Let me see Yemisi briefly." She said leaving and more memories flood her head.

Uche scoffed, "What makes you so sure? Some people don't like talking about their problems, besides I'm not the only that hasn't been through shit, Benefit is there and also Nene"

"Don't even call my name! Do I look like witch to you?" Nene asked and Benefit nodded, "I agree with Uche, she has a point, we haven't been through anything, apart from past mishaps, our relationship is going smoothly"

"Are you praying for something bad to happen?" Nene asked and she shook their head. "No! God forbid! I just want to say that I'm out of the option. I can promise you all that I'm not the one. I don't have anything against anyone, the woman clearly said that we've offended the person. No one has offended me"

Uche scoffed, "Are you sure?" She asked and Benefit clapped her hands, "Now you're beginning to offend me. I've had my share of bad relationship days!" "But you never seem to tell us the reason for your break up, the only thing you do is act like a cry baby about it"

"Uche!" Ema,Amazing, Yemisi and Blessing snapped but Uche shrugged instead.

Benefit blinked her tears in, "How dare you?" She asked as tears poured out, "You think I've always been happy? You think.... Uche you're very stupid!"

"Because Uche and I always attack her! Uche said it,  her suspect were Fisayo,  Blessing and you Benefit"

Amazing entered into Yemisi's room where she already had her clothes on  getting ready to go back home. "Babe this doesn't make sense" "What do you want?" "You heard the doctor,  it's an early stage"

"What's going on?" Amazing asked,  confused.

"Thank God you're here!" Kwame sighed in relief. "The test result is out,  they said it's bladder cancer,  stage 1. The doctor said it's curable,  all you just have to do is start chemo as soon as possible"

"And expose my baby to it? No! Ese gan but I'm not ready to take that risk. Let's just go home"

"And the cancer"

Yemisi cried,  "You more than the doctor know this is more than cancer!  It's more than just one stupid incontinence! I'm not doing any chemo" "Yemisi is right. This is bigger than Chemo,  I had my fibroids removes even when God told me not to and I had complications still. Chemo is not an option,  It might just open another door to more problems"

"Are we going to sit and watch the cancer become worst?"

"No. We'll sit and watch God take over the situation" She replied and Yemisi hugged her sobbing loudly.
