(Freya Milano)

While Alexander is gone, I have to do his errands.  This is a lot of work more than I expect.  I ditch college classes because of this.  Today I have to go checking a certain area in Afton to see if it’s suitable and safe for training.  I can do two or three areas at the same day.  However, Alexander demands to take Jamie with me.  I’m not one to follow any demands.  I can just go without telling Jamie. 

I’m getting ready before it gets darker out there than it already is since this morning.  I tie my hair up so it doesn’t frizzle later.  I don’t need to bring anything with me.  I’m going to finish this quick and safe all by myself.  I get a call from Hayden when I walk down the stairs. 

“Damn I forget about that.  I can’t make it tonight.  I have some errands to do for my brother.” I check on my pocket watch. “Maybe if possible I’d come by your house at midnight.”

I’m honestly so excited for this.  I love spending time in the nature and it can be adventurous and possibly dangerous.  I could meet some runaway vampires out there who hide in the dark.  Alexander would be proud of me knowing I’m going to kill some vampires.     

“Shit!” I curse loudly, surprised to see a guy standing with his back on me in front of the door.  He turns around with a slight smile on his face.  He doesn’t wear his vest but a dark brown jacket. 

“Hey, Alex said we’d be doing this together, you and me.  I have my stuff ready on my car.” He looks at me up and down. “It’s going to get colder.  Why don’t you wear something warm? Where’s your bag? You bring nothing? We’re probably going to have a long day and night.”

I wear long sleeve black top. “It’s warm enough for me.  I love cold.”

He tries to see pass my shoulder. “I’ll help you pack some things.”

“Can we just go now before I change my mind? This has everything I need.” I wave my handbag that I bring across my shoulder.  I close the door and my shoulder brushes his shoulder as I walk.  I find his truck on the side of the road.  He has similar truck like the one Alexander had.  It’s blue Ford truck though.  I actually like the look of it. 

I get in the truck right away.  This is the recent edition so it seems strong.  I put on my earphone and plug it on my iPod when he gets in the truck.  He pulls off my earphone.

“You’re not alone here.  We’re partners for today.  So put that off.” He says.  So then I plug it off and throw my earphone to the back seat.

On the way Jamie has tried to make conversations with me but I’m not in the mood to talk.  I look away every time he starts talking.  I pretend like there is something that catches my attention outside the car window.  I can hear his sigh for too many times whenever I ignore him. 

I check my pocket watch and it’s been 45 minutes on the road.  I don’t think it will take this much time.  The road in Afton is normally easy and quiet.  He’s not driving slowly either.  I look out through the window on my side and try to look across the window on his side.  I believe we have passed this road for the third time now.

“What the hell are you doing?” I slap his arm. “Are you trying to waste my time? This isn’t funny.  Now get us to where we’re supposed to go.”

He chuckles.  He doesn’t laugh a lot. “So now you’re talking.” He looks at me for a while then back to the wheel.  He looks satisfied of he did. 

“I didn’t know that you could be a pain in the ass too.” Suddenly an idea comes up on my mind.  I take my phone and send alert to the team members.  Alexander told us at the meeting the first time that every member must be ready whenever they get an alert from any of us, Alexander, me or Jamie. 

“What are you smiling at?” Jamie asks. “That doesn’t look good.” He quickly adds when I raise an eyebrow at his statement. “I mean I can tell there is something behind that suspicious smile.” 

“There is something behind everything.  Just drive.  We don’t have much time.  I don’t want to spend all day and night with you in the wilderness.” And finally we arrive. 

Jamie takes a deep breath. “This is one of my favorites spot in Afton.  But I haven’t visited here since forever.  Alex wanted to clear up this spot that might be unsafe.”

I just leave him to get out of the car while he’s still talking.  I think he’s getting more comfortable with me over the time we’ve spent together in his grill and when Alexander forces us to work together.  He’s talking more than the first time we met.  While waiting for him checking his backpack, I’m checking on my phone.  I don’t think the team members are responding or maybe they’re still on their way here. 

“Come on! Let’s do this!” he stands next to me with his backpack. 

I glance at him. “Did you hear me when I say you’re a pain in the ass?” but now I’m actually so excited to see some danger and surprise team adventure. 

This landscape is amazing.  It’s very wide land and hill.  As far as I can see, the hills aren’t that high but the land overall is very wide all I see is land with some trees at some areas.  This would be perfect for training area. 

“Wait till you see the river streaming through down the first hill.” Jamie is walking exactly steady at my pace so he stays by my side every step of the way. “We should drop by for a while at the river later.”

I shake my head. “You’d wasted our time by driving around the same road three times.” I keep walking while having my senses ready to catch any suspicious signs.   

“I did what I had to do to get you to talk.” He argues. “Trust me you’d want to spend some time on that river.”

In less than an hour of walking through the most crowded with trees areas, and hiking the first hill, we get to the spot he’s been so excited and annoying about.  My eyes instantly catch the natural beauty laid out in front of me.  I pretend not to be too amazed but it looks really nice.  The water streaming through small and some big rocks is very pleasing to the eye.  It’s very clean and the stream is just perfect at medium speed.  Some spot looks deeper than the other. 

I’m still standing here looking amazed when Jamie runs towards the river.  He puts his backpack far enough not to get wet by the water that may splash near.  Putting off his jacket and shoes, rolling his sleeves to his elbow and pants to his knees, he gets in the water.  The way he stands on the center spot where the water depth reaches his knees makes me smile.  He closes his eyes and opens his arms like he’s breathing the nature in him.

“Come here Freya!” he yells at me. “If you feel cold, you can wear my jacket but you must get in here.” He waves his hand in inviting and excited manner.  Excited Jamie is really cute I admit.  I can’t deny that I want to feel the water on my skin. 

I leave my bag and shoes near his stuff.  I roll my pants to my knees too and my sleeves to my elbow.  I walk to another spot that’s close to his since it seems to be the only spot that’s shallow enough for us to stand without wetting our clothes.  I stand quiet and enjoy the stream of the water through my toes and skin.  For a second there, it feels like peace.  I’m so tempted to just feel the water all over my body but that would raise suspicion to Jamie that the cold doesn’t affect me.   

After a short consideration, I walk to him and say. “Jamie, I need to tell you something.  You deserve to know the truth.  You’ve been my first friend in this town and first partner apparently.” I chuckle nervously, feeling a little hesitant but I shake away that feeling.

“I thought I was just your drinking buddy and forced partner. “ He teases me.

“Yeah I was being overstating.  You got that right.” I’m exactly a few inches in front of him now. “This is important and I hope it doesn’t affect the way you see me.  Not that I care about that but, screw it, I just want to be honest with you.“

“You can tell me anything.” He says but his eyes don’t seem focus on me. 

I take a deep breath before talking and right at the same time he suddenly grabs me and covers me with his arms.  I heard the sound something sharp hitting flesh.  He groans in pain.  I turn my head and see an arrow stuck in his left arm. 

“You’ve been hit! Someone is following us.”
