Chapter 6, Changing Form
A/N: Hi everyone! This will be a very exciting chapter, and it's action-packed! It also has a twist... I shouldn't spoil it! Anyway....
CHAPTER 6, CHANGING FORM
"Here, we study the war tactics of being a war changer. If you're here, you are then a war changer, which you should know if you were listening to Headmaster Darrel." He gives a short chuckle.
Gillian, without warning, combs back his short speckled blonde hair and with a pop, turns into an ocelot. In ocelot form, he does some cool karate moves, does a cartwheel, drawing a gash on the wallpaper.
Then ocelot-Gillian combs his fur, then turns back into Gillian.
"There is a fight going on as I speak," Gillian says, taking a deep breath. "Out in the galaxy, where magic is real, us changers have been fighting M.O.N.S.T.E.R.S. for decades. M.O.N.S.T.E.R.S. is an organization that wants to take over the galaxy. One problem, there are more monsters in the world then changers. That's why each year, we take in more than 1,000 students."
I stare at Gillian. What? Gillian ignores the small chatter that's happening and continues. "To Change into a Changer, you first comb back your hair, then you mutter the word, animatio. It's, a-ni-ma-tio. A little complex. Just remember it, and you'll forever know how to change into a changer. Don't do it now," he says sharply.
"To change from animal back to human, you must comb your hair again and say, monum. Mow-numb. Now, everyone, try it."
Here goes nothing, I think with a sigh, and so I comb back my hair and mutter, "Animatio."
My vision grows fuzzy, and in a flash, everything's clear again. Wow. Double wow. Actually, it's actually really good. Better than I realized. I try to do something a real leopard would do. I jump. I end up jumping extreme high. It's a good thing that there's a tall ceiling. Even so, I almost hit my head on the ceiling.
After that close call of danger, I decide to change back into human. What do I say again? I wonder. It was a combination of two Latin words... which ones... oh, it was, monum!
I comb back my hair, and say monum, but this time it isn't as pleasant.
I fall down a trapdoor beneath my feet, and all I can see is black for a second. Then I feel really wet. I look around., I am underwater. But the water is red. Deep crimson. And it smells weird. Is it... blood? I scream and thrash while the bloodwater tries to grab me.
Summoning all my strength, I yell, "Monum!" And I'm back into a human.
I look down at myself. I'm not wet at all. Or covered in blood. When I move my feet, there isn't a trapdoor.
Gillian notices my confusion. "It's all an illusion," he says. "Even the greatest war changers, like Headmaster Darrell, sometimes also feel the pull of the illusion. You have to fight and thrash. You have to summon your strength. You have to yell. You did well, Miss Carlyn."
I'm curious. "All an illusion. Wow. That's incredible. D'you also feel the pull of the illusion, Gillian?" I ask.
"Professor," Gillian prompts.
I realize my mistake. "Professor?"
"I do. Rest for a minute or so. Changing form is no easy task for beginners, so changing back and forth does take a lot of you energy." Gillian replies.
"I think I like Gillian of all the teachers," I whisper to Matthew.
"I heard that, Miss Carlyn!" Gillian says, but he's smiling rather playfully.
"Why?" askes Matthew.
"I guess..." I motion for Matthew to come out in the hallway so Gillian can't hear what I'm gonna say. "Sage is too wispy, too hard to understand. Gillian's personality and his traits are on the surface, so I can see them. Plus, Gillian just has a more likable personality. Also, Sage is more of an eccentric kind of person. You know?" I let out that monologue.
"I suppose, but then again we've only had two classes so far."
Matthew and I dash to our next period, a.k.a lunch.
