10.0 | Bombs Away

SAM DEAN AND JOSH WHEELER entered the mall, both unable to hear due to the bomb that had just exploded. Josh rushed over to Eli, no one could hear due to the explosion.

Josh furrowed his brows and mouthed, "Is she okay?"

Eli nodded, a small smile on his face. He and the mall kids were picking up glass that had shattered, when everyone began rushing to Sam and hugging her.

The boy subtly rolled his eyes, remembering all the pain that Sam had caused his girlfriend. He knew that it wasn't necessarily her fault, it was mostly Kai's mom's fault, but Sam didn't help much.

KJ stood away from the group, crossing her arms as she watched Sam get all the attention the blonde was used to receiving. Josh wrote on a pillar, TRIUMPH IS GONNA NUKE GLENDALE.

The dark haired girl took the marker from him and wrote, WE HAVE TO GO!

It was Sam's turn to snatch the marker, writing WE HAVE TO STOP HIM on the pillar.

Everyone listened to KJ, following the girl to the left. Just as Josh was about to go with them, Sam threw a fit over him having sex with the dark eyed girl that everyone had chosen over her.

After Josh and Sam got the Cheermazons to join their fight against Burr, and everyone could hear again, Eli stood in the doorway of the mattress store, his blue eyes watching Kai's peaceful form.

"Hey," Josh began, "she'll be alright."

Sam rushed over, following Eli's gaze. "Oh my God, is that Kai? What happened?"

"Hoyles thought that Eli was Triumph," Josh began, only to be interrupted by Eli himself.

"He went to stab me, but Kai jumped between us. She saved me," he sighed, "but at what cost?"

Sam furrowed her brows, "Will she be okay?"

"Yeah, she'll be fine. I stopped the bleeding and stitched her up." Eli stated, briefly looking at the blonde next to Josh.

The couple looked to each other, then to Eli.

"Look, Eli, you don't have to come with us to fight Burr. You should stay here with her, make sure she's alright." Sam stated.

The dark haired boy shook his head, "Nah. I need to fight. For Kai. I need her to stop protecting me, before she gets herself killed. What better way to do that, then fighting an army?"

They exited the mall, unaware that Kai had woken up. She was in excruciating pain, but she managed to rush outside with the group.

She was behind everyone, her weapons practically glued to her, as Josh pulled up with the homecoming float.

As the surviving members of the JV marching band entered the trailer and grabbed their instruments, Eli whirled Kai's keys around his finger.

"You're fucking insane if you think I'm letting you drive my car again." Kai stated, jumpscaring her boyfriend, and everyone else. Wesley rushed towards her, pulling her into a gentle hug.

He smiled at her, "Damn girl. You know you ain't indestructible, right?" He asked with a chuckle, causing Kai to shrug.

"Doesn't mean I can't be tough. Eli, keys, now."

The boy shook his head, "No way in hell am I letting you come with us. You're gonna get yourself killed if you keep doin' this shit, Kaira!"

"I thought we already figured out that I'm not gonna listen to you when you tell me to stay. You said it yourself, ladies aren't Chow Chows. Now, may I please have my keys?"

Eli sighed, placing the keys in her hand before kissing her forehead. "I'm glad you're awake, Babydoll."

"I'm glad we're alive. Now, let's go kick Baron Triumph's ass, shall we?" Kai asked, smiling at Sam and Eli before hopping into her car, Eli sitting in the passenger's seat.

The mall kids approached Baron Triumph and his army, prepared for a fight. Sam and Josh exited the float and stood in front of it as the band played. Eli and Kai were parked next to the vehicle, the couple knowing that they shouldn't leave the car just yet.

The Jocks began to charge, causing Kai to smirk. An army of ghoulies rushed past the car and the float, heading in the direction of the meatheads.

Eli smiled, "Alright!" He cheered, "Who knew Josh was smart?"

"Who knew you were a medic?" Kai jokingly asked with a smirk, causing the boy next to her to laugh.

The Cheermazons drove past, with Turbo on the top of their vehicle. Sam and Josh, followed by Wesley and KJ, hopped onto the truck and began to move towards the nuke, where Kai could see Angelica's blue cape shining in the sunlight.

"What're we gonna do?" Eli asked, looking to his left.

Kai shrugged, "I don't know, sit and wait, I guess?"

"So," the boy began, turning in his seat, "are we not gonna talk about it?"

The blonde furrowed her brows, "About what?"

"Why'd you jump in front of Hoyles? You could've died, Kai."

"But I didn't, you saved my life."

Eli rolled his eyes, "But you didn't know that I could. You didn't know if any of us could. So, why risk it over some stupid guy?"

"Because," Kai began, "that so-called stupid guy is the only person who makes me feel wanted. He is the only person who makes me feel important."

He sighed, grabbing her hand. "I'm in love with you, Kaira Dean."

"I'm in love with you, too."

The teens were gathered away from the rocket, waiting for Ms. Crumble to launch it. Kai was stood beside Eli, watching with glossy eyes as Ms. Crumble sacrificed herself for them.

When the rocket exploded, Kai buried her head into Eli's shoulder. One of her hands was gripping Angelica's, as the younger blonde clung to Josh.

Everyone, except for the group of friends, cheered. But those two blondes looked back at the platform, their hearts silently breaking at the sight of no more Ms. Crumble.

Their friends gathered behind them, wanting to comfort the two. Eli intertwined his fingers with Kai's as Wesley and Josh hugged Angelica.

The group stood there, staring at the fiery platform that the woman they had grown to love had been standing on a few moments beforehand.

Imagine their surprise, when they heard the woman's voice. "What're we looking at?" She asked, causing the teens to snap their heads in her direction.

Angelica's eyes widened before she jumped into the woman's arms.

Kai smiled, releasing a laugh of relief as she hugged Eli.

"We're all still alive." She whispered. "I'm still alive. And I'm with you." The blonde smiled, bringing her lips to Eli's.

Josh and Sam seemed to be having a very uncomfortable conversation, earning the attention of their friends.

"I fought, and struggled, and even lost a finger trying to get to you!" Josh told her.

Sam shrugged, "And yet, you still don't know me. I mean, I hate craftsman homes!"

"Okay. What about a mid-century modern?" Josh asked, turning towards the blonde.

Sam sighed, "I'll always be thankful to you, Josh. When you posted that video, you showed me who I could be."

"And, who are you?"

She smirked before turning to face him, "I'm Sam Dean." Mona walked onto the float with her, standing where she stood when Turbo made her his right-hand man. "This is my life, now. These are my people, and they need a leader. They need me."

"What if they don't want you?" KJ asked, stepping forwards. "I mean," she turned to the army of teens, "think about it, guys. Who's helped us all survive the most? Who's almost died, multiple times, trying to protect us? All Sam's done is make food for Turbo, and released Baron Triumph."

Everyone nodded in agreement as KJ continued, "We need someone who knows how to survive. Someone who will do anything to protect us." The brunette walked over to Eli and Kai. "We need Kaira Dean, who's gone to limits that none of us would even think about going to, in order to protect us."

The teens agreed again.

"The reign of precious little Sam Dean is over," Angelica started, "it's Kai's turn, now."

Everyone cheered, causing a small smirk to grow onto Kai's lips. She sauntered her way up to her cousin, Eli standing with a smirk by the throne after climbing the side of the float.

"Sorry, Cuzzo." She said, loudly, "It's nothing personal." The blonde shrugged before gently pushing Sam, causing her to hop off the float. Kai took a seat in the throne that was placed on the float, her smile never faltering.

She was wanted. She was finally wanted.

"Listen, guys. I'm not going to act like a ruler. I'm not gonna treat you like my royal subjects, or whatever. I'm gonna treat you all like family. Because, no matter what happened between us in the past, we're all we have left. And nothing, I repeat, nothing is going to happen to my family. Because, unlike my cousin, I protect those I love, instead of watching as they get the shit beat out of them." Kai announced, glaring daggers into the skull of her cousin. Everyone cheered, ecstatic at the words that had just left her mouth.

That's where our story ends, and new one begins...

i hope you enjoyed this!! there will be more of the story if netflix decides to make a season two of Daybreak. in the meantime, this story is completed.

i'm gonna riot. netflix isn't giving daybreak a second season. i hope you guys enjoyed this book, because it's one of my best. if you'd like me to, i'll continue this as an AU type of thing.
