Chapter four
A/N:
Sorry wattpad was being stupid and wasn't letting me upload :(
Tyrone:
She stared at him for a second deciding whether or not to believe him before bursting out laughing. Tyrone was quite taken aback.
This was the girl he had flattened and been had held at gunpoint by and she was... Laughing?
She seemed to notice his baffled look because the laughter died down and she began to explain.
"It's just, it's hard to believe that a girl could knock out a rock like you and shove you in the boot of her car!"
"One:" said Tyrone with a smirk on his face, "I'm flattered that you think I'm that toned and muscular. Two: it's called a drink spike. And and three: this isn't your car?"
She shifted uncomfortably under his gaze.
"It's none of your business. It's not even important anyway." she finally drawled out.
"Well that depends," Tyrone countered.
"On what?"
"How far is it to the nearest town?" He asked.
She thought about it for a second before answering.
"About 200 miles give or take 10."
"Great, you're giving me the car." Tyrone challenged.
She looked sheepish for a second.
"Yeah... other than the fact that its pretty much out of gas and you probably wouldn't even make it 5 miles down the road, I'm sure the authorities would be happy to find you seated in a stolen car.."
Tyrone was incredulous. He whipped out his cellphone, desperate for a single bar of reception. He paced around for a few minutes waving his phone in the air before the girl decided to enlighten him.
"There's no reception," she pointed out. "There never has been and there probably never will be."
Tyrone grumbled, thoroughly irritated. The hot sun wasn't helping his situation either. It had to be at least 45 degrees out here.
"Well then Einstein how did you suppose you were going to get yourself back to civilisation?" He finally bit out.
"I have someone coming to collect me in 2 weeks. You're welcome to stay at the farm and hitch a ride back with me then." She suggested.
Tyrone finally examined his surroundings. The place looked like a genuine cowboy ranch, similar to those he'd only seen in movies. The only thing missing were the animals and the fact that the place was deteriorating. Other than that it the property seemed half decent. His options were clear and his answer didn't take much thought.
"Alright then missy, you got yourself a deal!" Said Tyrone.
"Lacey," she said.
"What?"
"My name.. It's Lacey.
********
Lacey:
Lacey lay in her grandfather's old king sized double bed. She had been in this position for hours, but sleep would not come.
She regretted inviting the handsome stranger into the house. How was she supposed to do her work now with him loitering around the place? She hated to admit it but her heart had done most of the talking out there.
Stupid! She chided herself. It had only been a week since she had found her ex snuggled comfortably in her best friends bed.
Not that there was much to get over. She didn't even know why she had been in a relationship with the guy in the first place. He had made her feel trapped and pressured. It's a wonder she didn't see his real motives earlier. It would have saved her a lot of anger.
Finally accepting the idea that she wouldn't be sleeping tonight, she decided to go outside and look at the stars like she used to do with her grandad.
She missed him so much after the accident. She felt that if she was finally able to recover what was theirs, she might be able to have a piece of her grandfather back. Unfortunately it became lost within her sister's husband's family after it failed to make an appearance in his will.
She sighed deeply as she gazed up at the stars. She counted the many constellations her and her pops had found while he was still alive. It was in this position Lacey finally felt at peace. Stretching out on the deck chair in the warm night breeze she closed her eyes and succumbed to the pressure of sleep.
