4. A Date

The next two weeks was a blur of driving Will to his dance class, school, work, forming a weird friendship with Max, studying, making music, hearing Will drone on about David, and his personal favourite, pissing off Cole. He had to get creative with misspellings, especially when Cole went out of his way to spell it out. Those were the times Dalton juggled whether or not to actually get it right for once. But then he decided against it, putting an extra l in or replacing the e with a p because he went right back to talking to either Chris or Gabe.

Speaking of Chris and Gabe, he and Max sometimes sat around during breaks, especially since Will was too engrossed in his new crush, and made theories about who these two were. Cole had seemed to only be talking to those two whenever he rudely walked into the shop. He never brought either of them with him and Chris had obviously been to Beans & Caffeine before if Cole said he had recommended the place to him.

He must've only come in when both of them were off shift. Dalton didn't work all the time after all, he wasn't that crazy. Gabe didn't seem to come around and both Max and Dalton doubted they would. As far as the two were concerned, Chris was a best friend, while Gabe was a third wheel.

It was now Friday. Max wasn't working today, Dana had left hours ago, and Dal's shift had just ended. He had successfully been able to write "Coal" on his, now regular's coffee cup. He had wanted to do it for a while actually, and it had made him giddy with joy all day, he swore that Luke and Carlie thought he was crazy by now.

Earlier, his roommate had texted him and asked if he would be able to pick him up from the school when the blond was done work. He texted back quickly with a positive reply and got back to work. Now, he was on his way down the road to their college.

Dalton got to the school and drove up to where Will was standing outside. "You will not believe the day I had!"

"David asked me out today," Will said quickly, his face turning beet red, as he meekly shuffled into the car.

"Okay, you win," Dal frowned, jokingly, "But seriously, that's great! Would you buckle up?"

Will rolled his eyes at the shorter man and started into a rant about how and what and when it happened, after buckling his seatbelt. Dalton started driving as Will told the story. They had been alone as the students were getting snacks, they were talking about Pokémon which Dalton didn't really understand, he wasn't much of a Pokémon guy. Anyway, they had laughed about a corny joke Will made and after they stopped laughing David wanted to be serious for a second. Then the brunet straight up asked him to go out. Of course Will said yes and only externally freaked out a little bit.

"So we're going out tomorrow after class. He wants to bring me to see a movie and then he's gonna bring me to his place for dinner," The Asian finished, a dopey smile on his face, "Speaking of tomorrow, You said you'd come help us teach a lesson for the class so you're coming, just with the routine I taught you a while back. And David said he was bringing his friend tomorrow so you can't back out now."

Dalton externally groaned, not caring about the glare his friend shot him. He didn't think he was good enough at dancing to teach a class. Plus he'd seen a video of a half finished routine one of the students recorded that Will sent him. Both Will and David were amazing dancers and the kids were almost as good. But Will had also mentioned that David's friend apparently danced at the same level as he did, so maybe he wouldn't be alone, "Hey what's David's friend's name again?"

"Um, I think it was Calum. He was the one in our songwriting class I'm pretty sure."

"The one that people thought was your brother at the beginning?"

"I believe so."

"Cool."

And with that, Dalton started talking about his own day. Will contently like he usually did when the radio wasn't playing good enough songs to sing to. This was a regular routine if there was no car karaoke going on, sharing stories. Will would always have a funny and/or embarrassing thing happen to him, and the Asian never payed much attention in the shop for Dalton not to be able to talk about things that happened during his shift. In fact, Will didn't even know what Cole looked like, and he barely knew who Max was. One time, Luke had roasted a rude customer, which made the entire shop start applauding and Will hadn't even looked up. But that was okay, Dalton and Will both loved stories.

They decided to stop by the grocery store before reaching their apartment building. They were running out of ramen noodles and Grandma Rapattoni wasn't coming for a visit with a fridge full of food in tow for a while. It was time for the two to do some adulting.

Will grabbed a cart and trudged behind Dalton as he scanned the aisles of food for the lowest prices. They were college student after all. All in all, they bought twenty packs of instant noodles, a family size box of cheerios, a couple eggs, a jug of milk, and Will's nutella. As they walked to the checkout, Dalton widened his eyes as he saw someone he did not expect to see.

It was that Cole dude that kept coming into the coffee shop. He was at one of the cash registers, smiling brightly at customers. So he was a retail worker himself but he was still very rude to other retail workers. Dalton huffed and steered Will to the register farthest away from the jerk. He'd be happy if he didn't have to see him anywhere else than the place where he could piss him off.
