Chapter 19

Chapter dedicated to...

-----------------------------

FRIDAY COMES MUCH slower than ever. As I dragged my feet through the hallways, it felt as if I've done enough schooling to last me a last time. Not seeing Ian was torture enough and then there's the Evelyns and their scornful looks and glares following my every move. Who knew something as simple and basic as a look could tire someone out.

Now I'm back home and surprisingly all the tiredness disappeared after a relaxing bath without warm water. Cold but very relaxing. I'm agile once more and I know its not just because of the bath, its because I can't wait to see Ian. I really really can't wait. I've never felt as lonely as I did, guess I'm more attached than I thought. We been talking through Jamie's phone and Finn's. But its not even close to being enough.

"There's nothing to dress up. Its just putting on a shirt. What's so tedious about that?" Christine says spinning around on my chair.

"We've still got to dress up together and who told you its easy?" I tell her going my underwear drawer.

"We'll have to do makeup, our nails, shave, hair." Jamie lists off, then opens up a bag. "I brought a bunch of stuff."

"I have a bunch bunch of stuff." I say and we laugh, hitting our hands together.

"My nails are made." Christine says holding up her small fingers coated in black polish. Plain black!

Jamie and I scrunch up our faces in distaste and I toss Christy a bottle of wipe. "Ew, wipe that."

"What's wrong with these?"

"They are plain. If you're going with black make it bolder with a design or something. A touch of red won't hurt, since you're Netflix and all." Jamie explains and I nod in agreement.

Christine huffs but obliges anyway. "You girl have issues. Complicating ones."

"Oh come on, don't you want to dazzle for Finn?" Jamie asks wiggling her brows. Christine jaw drops and she turns her accusing eyes at me.

I immediately raise my hand up, "I didn't tell her anything!"

Jamie rolls her eyes. "You guys seriously didn't think you can hide that from me, right? I'm like, The Galaxy."

I chuckle and Christy sighs, "What do you think you know?"

"That you have a big crush on Finn and you turn into a blob anytime he's five feet close to you."

Christy blushes bright red, "great."

"Oh come on, don't act like it's a bad thing. Its natural, Christy." I say throwing my shorts at her.

"Its embarrassing." She slowly say, pulling my short off her face.

"No, its not." I insist but she doesn't look like she believes me. "Fine, since you feel embarrassed. Let's all embarass ourselves, shall we?"

I go first. "I have the mightiest and hugest crush on Ian Maurice, the new guy."

The room goes silent and Christine breaks it with a laugh, "I already knew that."

I roll my eyes. "Well, now it's confirmed." I turn to Jamie. "J, who's the guy you have a crush on?"

It's then I notice that her happy expression has changed. I can't pinpoint the feeling on her face now. She slowly shakes her head. "No one."

I scoff, "No one? That's a lie, fess up."

"Seriously, no one." She repeats walking around me to go to the bathroom.

"Jamie you can't just--" I didn't get to finish before she disappears into bathroom. Shutting the door. I turn to Christine in confusion.

"Just drop it."

"Why? Is there anything I don't know?"

Christine shrugs, "maybe."

I gape at her and she laughs. "Kidding. Leave Jamie and come help me wipe this."

"Fine. But you both are telling me later."

"Sure."

**

I smiled at my reflection. Everything looked perfect. Especially my dress. I love this dress, I just hope Prom dress beats this. It better.

My makeup isn't as heavy as I thought Jamie would make it. I had concealer on, blush on my cheeks, mascara and pink gloss on my lips. Jamie added a little powder to make my skin look pale and well... dead. My hair wasn't worked on. It fell limply against me, a little damp and curly from shower. I had a hair band up the front, pushing it back and letting some curls fall out and at the side. Damp hair is uncomfortable but I'm supposed to be a ghost and Jamie said this suits.

I had a ketchup on my neck, drawn in a line. That's supposedly where my murderer slit my throat at. I had silver stilettos on and hoop earrings. I can see my cleavage peeking over the low cut neck but it isn't as provocative as I thought it'll be. Could be because I don't have much boobs to begin with. Jamie would have killed in a dress like this.

"You guys ready?" I ask looking over at my friends that were taking selfie at the side of my room.

Christine shoots me a deadpan look, "We've been ready for ages. Are you ready?"

I smile, "Yes. I am."

Ellie left close to an hour ago. She was dressed in our school's jersey, a much smaller type. Her hair was up in a ponytail and she even dyed it blond like mine with highlights – I'm so surprised my mum allowed that. The jersey had my number and name at the top - R. Richards. With boots and bag that looked exactly like a ball. Seeing her almost brought tears in my eyes and Christine and Jamie couldn't stop cooing about how cute she was. Dad actually cried.

Now I was nervous as we three descended the stairs. I was nervous about my parents reaction, mum's to be exact. I was nervous about Ian's reaction. I'm not even sure if he'll show.

"Jesus Anna." Dad says dramatically getting up the chair, eye wide at me.

I smile and do a little spin. "How do I look?"

"Gorgeous. You should be a box." Dad says taking my hand in his and doing another spin. "Gorgeous."

"Ouch Dr Richards." Christy says. "Ouch."

We burst out laughing and Dad lifts Christy up, spinning around and apologizing for not noticing them. He rains us with compliments upon compliments and insist I should stay in box or be framed as picture.

"Dad, people usually say the box thing when someone looks horrible."

"Really? Well, yours is different."

My mind shifts from my dad when I notice my mum walking out of the kitchen. She looks over us all and smiles. "You both look adorable, Jamie and Christine."

"We going for hot but adorable works too." Jamie says before Christine stomps on her foot and they both echo. "Thanks Mrs Richards."

Christine has her Netflix shirt on with black leather shorts. Knee high leather heeled boots. Her dark hair is as straight as a pin and she had bold makeup on, the shadowy eye, red lips and Mascara standing out. She's stunning. Jamie has her blond hair in bouncy curls, her blue Chill shirt over a black long skirt with a really high side slit. She has pumps on and unlike us, her makeup is the lightest.

I mentally sigh, I wasn't expecting a compliment from my mum. She's still pissed at me.

"You look wonderful Anna." Or not. My smile is wide as I turn back to her. "Although I'm a little worried about that neckline."

I chuckle, "there's literally nothing there."

"Your date won't think that." She says then smile. "Chain his hands to him, would you."

I want to say I don't have a date but I just smile and hug her instead. "Thanks mum."

"Take this." She hands my phone to me. "Call if you're staying out late."

"Yeah about that, I'll probably be staying past my curfew. Just this one night only."

"Sure baby." Dad says and my mum's eyes snap to his. He smiles. "Just this one night."

"Thank you!"

"Still call."

"Bye." I sing out walking out of the house with Jamie and Christine behind me.

"Is Ian still coming?" Jamie asks as we get into my car.

"I hope so." I start up the car and smile at them both. "You guys are lesbian goals."

"Please don't." Christine says looking over at Jamie from the mirror and shuddering. "Anyone but J."

Jamie gasps, "What's that's supposed to mean? You crush my feelings Chris. Let's make out!" She reaches from the back seat, puckering out her lips.

"Jamie stop!"

I burst out laughing and Jamie presses her lips to Christine's face making her shriek out in horror.

"Anna I'll hold unto my ovaries tightly if I were you." Christine threatens and I turn on the volume of the radio. We three bellow out the lyric at once.

"Baby we found love right where we are!"

**

"I'll wait outside here." I say rubbing my hands together even though the environment was barely cold. The music booming out of the building and even the ground shook a little. I guess the Chaperone's were free with everyone.

"We'll wait with you." Jamie says looking around.

"No." I shake my head. "Go in, start partying ahead of me. I'll be fine."

"If he's too late, just come in." Christine says. "Don't miss all my twerking moves."

I laugh, "Of course."

I watch them disappears into the crowd and mass of body that shockingly feels the giant hall. Who knew our little town had this much teenagers. I stood outside, some people - drunk and otherwise - occasionally bumping into me. My eyes searched for Ian and every minute that went by, I felt deflated. I send him a text.

Me << I got my phone back. Where are you?

No reply.

I tap my phone against my palm as I impatiently wait. My phone rings but before I even see the call, it dies. A text comes in right after.

Ian >> sorry, butt dialed you.

I smile. He replied and he butt dialed! Lol.

Ian >> I'm...

Ian >> right there.

Just then a motorcycle loudly screeches in, throwing a ton amount of sand behind it. I look up from the text and squint my eyes at the bike. I can't see clearly but I can make out two figures on the bike. The second one gets off the bike and pats the driver saying something. The driver nods  and takes off on an alarming speed. The figure that got off, straightens up and starts walking towards me.

I know that walk anywhere.

"You're driving without a helmet?!" I ask as his face appears out of the darkness.

Ian tosses his head back and groan. "Of course that'll be the first thing you say. And here I was hoping on 'Ian?', just so I can finally reply with 'in the flesh.'"

I smile, then decide to humor him. "Ian?"

He smirks, spreading his arms out. "In the flesh."

I laugh and jump into his arms, raising my legs above the ground as his arms wrap around my thin frame completely. I didn't think its possible for two people bodies to fit each other so perfectly until I met Ian. His hug is unlike anything I know.

"I've missed you." I blurt out and then place my feet back on the ground, looking at his face. "Have you missed me?"

He brushes a curl of hair over, "What do you think?"

"I think a lot of things."

He smiles, "yes, Roxanna. I have."

I release a breath I didn't know I was holding and linked hands with him. "Who was that dropping you off?"

"A friend."

I gasp dramatically, "You have a friend?"

He rolls his eyes. "I do." Shrug. "I don't speak to him as much as before anyway."

"And why not? As far as I know, he's your only friend."

He smiles, a kind of smile that looks nostalgic. "We live different lives now and I'll like to keep my past as a past. Plus, he's not my only friend. I have you, don't I?"

I want to smile at that but my chest doesn't allow me to. Have I just been friendzoned? Maybe he didn't mean it like that. I mean, I am a friend after all, a friend. But we kissed, didn't that mean anything to him. I manage a small smile.

"Yea, I guess I am."

Ian goes silent looking at me, I sigh pushing back the feeling that my biggest crush ever, that I've kissed and showed my feelings to a lot of times, just friendzoned me.

"What?" Ian asks shaking our hands.

"Nothing."

He spins me around, placing his hands on my shoulder. "Don't frown, keep your beautiful face as it is. Whatever I said to upset you, I didn't mean it."

I smile, a real one. "You think I'm beautiful?"

"Very. I think you've never been more beautiful."

I smack him, "then why didn't you say that sooner?"

He shrugged, "I was still looking for the word but I guess beautiful would do. What are you dressed as?"

"The ghost of a bride. I'm dead."

He raises my impressed brow. "Sorry I didn't wear anything matching."

I looked him up. He was dressed in all black with a black leather jacket. "You're okay. You could be the reaper who just collected my soul."

"Okay..." He links our hands again and start walking towards the entrance. "Who would kill such a beautiful bride?"

"I don't know. Some jealous ex?"

"Ah, plot twist. The reaper killed the bride."

I gasp, "why would he do that?"

Ian shrugs and smirks at me just before the swam of bodies swallow us in.

"Maybe he was jealous."

...and now she gets to spend forever with him.
