Chapter 34

A/N I'm not happy with this ending.

Feel free to read it if you like but I will be changing this ending soon.

Thank you for your patience, Kitty Chan

......

"They know you're an Ethereal Violet, you need to run." The words coming from Cynthia's dying mouth both leave me with my blood running cold and confused.

"Who knows I'm an Ethereal." I demand of the dying woman. But it's to late, Cynthia has finally passed out. Although she is still breathing.

While my attention is on Cynthia I barely noticed that it's become unnaturally dark. It's so dark that I can only see about 10 meters in any direction even with my enhanced vision

I stand up in order to pick Cynthia up and rush her inside where she might be able to get some help. I knew which direction the house was in even if I couldn't see it anymore.

As I stand up with an Cynthia in my arms I realize that there are solid glowing red eyes all around me in a ring. There must be 20 or more of them.

"My mother was always one to interfere when she could." An all too familiar voice said out of the unnatural dark that surrounded us.

"It's to bad she was such a failure. Did you know she was originally designed to be the first artificial Ethereal?" Alex continued from the cover of darkness.

His voice seemed to be coming from everywhere or I would have rushed to him and killed him already. But fighting 20 or more Royals at once maybe be risky with Cynthia so close to death and in my arms.

"It's no matter now, I have you after all. She's fulfilled her purpose and can now die." Alex continued on.

"What the fuck do you want this time Alex?" I demanded of the red eyes watching us.

"It's Alexander, when are you going to learn that? And I want you, as do all these fine gentlemen here, Ethereal." This earned a chuckle from the crowd.

"You're sick and a coward Alex." I shot back. "You can't even face me and choose to hide behind the darkness."

"You like my little toy?" Alex's voice almost purred out of the darkness. "Some friends from off world gave it to me. Don't tell me you didn't know that the vampires didn't originate on earth."

I didn't say anything while I tried to process that Alex was still in contact with wherever it is the vampires came from.  I suddenly had a large feeling of dread.

"Well if you're going to be so silent then I guess it's time for the main event." Alex announced. "Now be a good girl and stay right there so people don't get killed."

As he finished the unnatural dark lifted. I found myself surrounded by male Royals, not a single female among them. I had to stop myself from killing Alex the moment I saw him.

Alex had Gabe by the throat once again. I would laugh at his repetition except this time his buddies on his left and right also had Leah and Audrey by the throat. There is no way I could get to all of them before one of my friends died.

The other thing I immediately noticed is that the city around us had gone dark. It's like someone flipped the power off to the entire city. The stars were amazing now thanks to that. There were so many it was ridiculous. It even looked like some of them were moving.

"Now little Ethereal, if you don't want to see your soulmate here or your children die then I suggest you put my worthless mother down while I inject you with dead man's blood." Alex demanded looking like he'd snapped and lost his mind.

Later on he would regret what he said next though. "They're going to be so happy then I deliver you to them." Alex said to himself, but it was loud enough to be heard by everyone in the clearing and a feeling of dread suddenly flooded the group.

One of the Royals spoke up. "Please tell me that you did not bring them to Earth Alexander, they will kill us all."

"Not if we deliver an Ethereal to them." Alex countered. "We'll be kings."

"I like my life so I'm not sticking around to find out." The Royal said before turning around and bolting. Most of the other followed suit until there was only me and 7 Royals including the crazed looking Alex left.

Unfortunately the two holding Leah and Audrey had remained and had the same crazed look on their faces as Alex did. Meaning they still had the advantage over me. It looks like I'm going to have to take my chances to get us out of this mess.

"COWARDS." Alex yelled after his retreating troops. "No matter. Ethereal, put my mother slowly on the ground." He demanded of me.

So I complied and very slowly I started to put Cynthia on the ground. I made sure I was doing it so slowly that it would annoy, and therefore distract, Alex and his goons.

When I finally got to the ground I reacted at the highest speed my Ethereal abilities would allow me to and grabbed three small rocks from the ground. I threw them with deadly accuracy at the three Royals holding my friends.

The two Royals around Alex simply crumpled allowing Leah and Audrey to retreat before the others managed to catch up on what was happening.

Alex managed to push Gabe into where I was located which worked perfectly for me. I dashed over to her at full speed and gently picked her up.

"Lean back into my arm." I said as I placed one of my hands behind her head to support Gabe at the speed I was about to move. "This may give you whiplash."

Wasting no more time as Alex's remaining goons started to head towards me I took off towards the other side of the estate, away from the house, so I could jump the wall and dash to freedom.

It was a short lived plan as when I got to the center of the estate a wall of pure white, burning energy suddenly formed in front of me. Forcing me to suddenly stop.

I don't stop to think about the energy wall as I pick another direction and take off at full speed. The change in direction takes less than a second to achieve but another wall appeared in from of me about 30 meters away from the first one.

This pattern continued until Gabe and I were completely trapped by burning energy walls.

So I take the only course of action left to me as they're too high to jump over. I shield Gabe with my body and run at the wall trying to break through it.

When I rammed into the wall I found it was solid and didn't move under all my strength. Instead I bounced back a couple of meters and landed in a manner that broke a few bones but I was able to protect Gabe.

Contact with the wall had also burnt off half of my left arm just from a second of contact. My self healing was quickly fixing that but it was good to note I wasn't going through the wall alive.

Gabe was in a daze from all the quick movement and I was desperately searching for a way out when Alex stumbled up to the other side of our prison and laughed at me.

"You're nothing more than a beast in a box." He taunted me. "Not so scary now, are you?"

I ignored  him and started to look around for the source of these energy walls. I looked up once again and and this time I saw it. Above me was what could only be two spaceships that were creating the walls of energy.

Beyond the two that were keeping me prisoner I could see hundreds if not thousands more of the ships descending to earth. Apparently Alex really had called these beings to earth. It would explain why there were so many stars in the sky before though.

I was bought out of my thoughts as Gabe groaned. "You're an asshole Alex." She managed to say as she grabbed onto me for support. "You'll never be better than Violet."

Alex enraged at her words. "Well fine then, let's see how good the world is without her."

Alex bought some sort of remote out from his jacket and and hit a button, laughing like a madman while he was doing it I may add.

"Let's see who's better after this. I'm going to enjoy watching your final moments Violet." He cackled.

The energy walls started to move in towards the center slowly, burning everything in their path to soft ash. I guessed we had less than a minute until they reached the dead center and burnt us alive.

I quickly identified the middle and grabbed Gabe as I moved us to the center. I got her to curl into a ball on the ground as tight as she could, as I positioned my body over the top of hers to protect her and began concentrating as hard as I could to maximize my healing and defensive powers.

"We're going to die aren't we?" Gabe asked in a small voice.

"Not if I have anything to say about it." I reassured her through gritted teeth. I think I'd pushed my powers as far as they'd go now. All I had to do was wait the last 30 seconds for the wall to hit us and see if we survived.

"It's ok." Gabe said still in a small voice. "I just want to let you know one thing before I die."

Gabe moved her face to mine and gently placed her hands on my cheeks. "Thank you for everything. You've been the best thing in my life and I just wanted you to know that I love you."

With that she kissed me. It was only short as we had a wall of death almost on us but it was amazing nonetheless.

"I love you to." I admitted to Gabe. "Now we can continue this after we get out of this alive."

I stopped talking as the burning sheet of energy was only seconds away and one again focused on maximizing my abilities.

A second or two after it hit us, well it hit me. Gabe was safe under me at the moment. I've never felt such strong pain, even when I got my heart ripped out. It felt like I was disintegrating under the heat and pressure.

Even with all off my Ethereal abilities I could feel myself losing the battle with this slowly moving wall. I was losing conscious as my body was disintegrating and had to fight to remain awake. If I fall unconscious then we're both dead.

About ten second later I realize that ¾ of my body is gone and the beam isn't even half way over me. I looked at Gabe, desperate to protect her.

She must have seen the pain in my eyes because she said to me. "Thank you for trying, I will always love you."

That was the last thing I heard before the burning wall ripped my body into atoms and seconds later Gabe followed. Plunging us both into the eternal darkness.
