Chapter 15

Audrey's fist flew towards me at half the speed of sound. Almost too fast for human eyes to follow its graceful arc through the air.

Just as quickly I blocked and countered her, flipping Audrey over onto her back. I swear I heard the concrete under the crash mat crack beneath the force of the flip.

Audrey expelled her breath on impact, then slowly drew in air once she'd settled. The pain from her broken bones mending in under 10 seconds as my healing abilities went to work on her.

"You're getting better with your techniques Vi." Audrey noted as I held out my hand to help her up.

"Thank you." I replied, while relaxing the concentration needed to grant Audrey 50% of my full power temporarily.

To backtrack a bit, almost a month ago we all agreed to move and head to university. Shortly after that, Audrey suggested that we all needed to become familiar with fighting with a vampires strength and speed.

So we found an old pool that hadn't had water in it for a long time and lined it with crash mats. From then on we started training with each participant holding 50% of my full power. It really was different trying to fight at such speeds and strength.

Audrey was training both Leah and myself. I must admit, it was weird granting them both 50% of my power and therefore leaving myself as a normal human for the course of their training. I'd become used to my new body and powers without even realizing it.

However, when Audrey tried to face off with Jamie in the Training Pit, as we called it, she was beaten almost instantly. It was funny to watch considering Audrey couldn't land a strike on Jamie at all.

But the upside of all this training is Audrey and I had managed to get back some respect for each other. Slow progress is still progress. At least we can have a normal conversation that's not forced.

Leah and Audrey also announced that they're dating, which came as no surprise to anyone that had spend any sort of time around them recently.

I also knew that Mia and her boyfriend were having troubles when she decided to come with us to the middle of Melbourne, four hours away. I'm not sure if they're still together and going to try a long distance relationship or if they've broken it off.

All I know for sure is that those two have trouble in paradise and I feel bad for putting Mia in that situation. Even though she had reassured me that no boy was worth her entire future and if her boyfriend couldn't accept that then she wasn't sure that he truly loved her.

"Love is complicated." I thought, shuddering.

I heard murmuring coming from the crowd that had formed along the top of the Training Pit to watch us train at stupidly fast speeds. Speeds that a human would never be able to achieve.

"That's my win so hand the money over." was a phrase that particularly caught my interest.

"Could you excuse me for a second?" I asked Audrey, who was still recovering somewhat from my counter flip.

"Sure." she replied. I casually picked up a rock, took aim and threw it as hard as I could at the cash that was currently changing hands. It disappeared with the rock, well beyond the walls of the compound, and a small boom in the distance announced that they had exceeded the speed of sound.

I addressed the now stunned crowd. "If anyone else want to bet on our practice then this is the time to come forward. But I warn you, next time I might miss and take your bored little head off instead."

The crowd instantly dissipated like smoke and Audrey sat in the middle of the now deserted training area laughing her ass off.

I helped Audrey up from what would most likely be our final training session in the compound in the foreseeable future. We were moving in a couple of days and everyone would be packing after tonight.

Leah and I didn't have much to pack up as we were brought here only a few months ago and it's not like there are shopping centres anywhere near here.

So we helped Mia and Audrey get ready for their first big move in their lives. Neither of them had lived outside of the compound before. It must have been intimidating for them.

Jamie had left two days ago, something about preparation to make the new place ready to to live in. I will admit, we had to house a lot of people. Aside from the Ethereals, we also had to house Rose, Rhys and Mia, who had all decided to come with us. Trying to find enough parking space to accommodate all the cars must have been a challenge.

Jamie came back to the hunters compound to have Christmas with us and bought along a surprise for both Audrey and Leah in the form of a brand new Mazda 3 each. Needless to say, they were over the moon and like me, they were very disappointed at the 'No Hooning' rule.

After packing many, many boxes of Mia and Audrey's junk, the dawn of moving day finally arrived, causing lots of emotions in everyone leaving.

A truck came and took our things away while everyone who was coming with us piled into the three cars. My Audi as well as Leah and Audrey's Mazda 3's. Rose and Rhys planned to retrieve their own cars from their old house when we got back to suburbia.

I had Rose in my passenger seat after she flatly refused to travel with Rhys, using the reasoning 'We need sister bonding time.". However, I just knew that she really wanted to ride in my beast of a car with me. Who else taught me about fast cars?

For four hours, Rose and I attempted lots of karaoke and generally failed to sing along well, ensuing fits of giggling afterwards, I haven't spent enough time with my sister lately and I've missed her company.

Our convoy pulled up at the gate in the middle of the high wall that surrounded our new home. Using the remote Jamie had given me I opened the gate and drove in. The area just beyond the gate was a carpark easily able to park ten cars, if not more. My next Audi has plenty of room to park beside mine. Now I just need to convince Jamie to buy it.

There was a wide path up to the massive two story building in the center of the property. The grounds were carpeted in lush, green grass as well as a couple of small gardens that could be seen from the entrance. This place must cost a fortune to maintain. Shotgun on NOT mowing the lawn. Ever.

We all entered the double doors that led into the house and found ourselves in the middle of the dining/living room. Apparently this place had once been a hostel that a rich owner had fixed up to house his important guests. So the kitchen, dining and living room were in the center of the building on the lower floor, while the bedrooms circled the outside of the common areas as well as taking up the entire upper floor. Each bedroom had its own ensuite bathroom and there was a laundry in a separate building out the back, attached to the main house by a path with a roof over it.

When I'd heard we'd be living in an old hostel I had been honestly worried, but I was happily impressed with how much this place made me feel like I was back in my childhood home.

"Welcome home." Jamie greeted all of us while walking down the stairs that led to the upper bedrooms. "I'm glad you arrived safely."

"There are three bedrooms downstairs and seven upstairs. Only the three facing the north side of the building on the upper level have been reserved. The rest are first in, best dressed."

Jamie's words caused Mia to run upstairs, on the hunt for the best room. While Rhys and Rose decided to check out the rooms on the lower floor. Jamie offered to guide the Ethereals to the rooms he mentioned earlier. We accepted his offer gladly, surprised that we had rooms already reserved for us.

The upper floor consisted of a landing and 7 doors leading from it. There were name plates on three of them already, Jamie, Violet and Audrey & Leah.

Yes those two had decided to share a room. As long as I couldn't hear them at night I didn't have a problem with it. I was finally free of Mia and her boyfriends midnight rendezvous thankfully. Although I'm still not sure what happened between those two in the end.

I opened the door to my new room and found the floor carpeted in a cream colour, the softness of the carpet hitting me instantly as my foot sank into it. Three of the walls were also cream and the other was green. A display wall I assumed, with an air-conditioner mounted on it.

There was a king sized bed, complete with matching side tables and a tallboy that was stashed in the small walk in robe. A large study desk and chair was against a wall and a 70 inch LCD TV was hung opposite the bed.

Exploration of the bathroom revealed a large bathtub and a shower that had two water spouts that could be individually controlled.

The only other major thing in the room was the almost floor to ceiling window that covered the better part of one wall. It overlooked the grounds behind the house and had a good view of the pool in the backyard. It also had thick green blackout curtains bound at each side of it.

All in all, this is the nicest place I've ever lived in. I can't believe that I'm going to spend my university life in luxury. A girl can definitely get used to this.

Speaking of university, I'm so not ready for it. I've forgotten so much of the things that I learnt in high school during my Awakening and the Ethereal stuff. So I suppose it's time to hit the books again. Oh the joy of it all. I was starting to remember why I hated school.
