Chapter 12

"What happened?" A fully conscious, healthy Leah asked.

"You were caught by Jake." Came the reply from Jamie as we all looked towards Jake who was still standing there trembling. "If you pull that blade out it will instantly kill him."

Leah smile as Jamie released her from her chains and she went over to her ex-boyfriend. "This is for being the world's biggest asshole." She informed Jake before grabbing the end of the blade and yanking it out in one smooth move.

Jake fell to the floor and started to bleed out through his eyeball. His blood pooling on the ground.

"Can I keep this?" Leah asked Jamie, indicating the fine blade that she was holding.

"Sure." said Jamie. "But right now we need to get out of here."

"Violet." Jamie's voice became very soft, not quiet, just soft like you do when you're handling a sleeping baby. "I need you to imagine strength and speed just like you did with the healing and let that feeling build until you can't take it anymore."

I did as he asked and found the idea of speed and strength grew a lot faster than the idea of healing did.

Jamie came back over to me and put his forehead on mine. "Now push that idea to me, but this time I'm going to need you to maintain it."

I felt the power leave me and enter Jamie as the green rings around his eyes started to blaze and grew to cover half of his iris. I don't how, but I somehow understood that I had transferred my ability of supersonic speed and my strength to Jamie.

"Help Violet as we escape with your hunter friends." Jamie instructed Leah. "But be gentle with her, if she breaks her concentration and I lose the strength needed to fight all the drones in here then we're all dead."

We could both tell from the look on his face that he was deadly serious as Leah nodded.

Jamie made his way to the door, moving so fast it's like he disappeared from next to us and reappeared at the door. I wondered if that's what I look like when I'm at full speed.

Jamie opened the door and just as quickly grabbed the heads of the two guards at the door and smashing them together with enough force to cause there brains to explode outside their skulls.

Jamie disappeared in a flash and we heard the same thing from out in the corridor before he reappeared and motioned for us to follow.

Sure enough, there were two more dead guards at the entrance to the room next to ours. We opened the door to the room and found the five hunters alive, but roughed up and handcuffed.

Immediately I started to gather the idea of healing, except when I tried to push it into the hunters, nothing happened.

"It will only work with your children." Jamie said, appearing before me in an instant. "I'll give you a complete rundown of what's happening when we get out of here, but for now let's free these hunters and get one of them to recover Audrey. All is not lost for her yet."

Leah's head shot up at this news.

Freeing the hunters and retrieving the unconscious Audrey took less then two minutes. But in that time six more drones died at Jamie's hands. With another two dying in the elevator.

I don't remember much after we exited the elevator because the mental strain of holding the connection with Jamie, coupled with my already drugged state, finally overcame me and I passed out.

I woke up in the cruiser with Jamie next to me and the five hunters all present and alive. Something also tasted really good.

I looked down to see my fangs extended into the soft part of Jamie's arm and his blood flowing into my mouth.

I quickly retracted my fangs as his wounds instantly closed over.

"Thank you." I said. Everything that had happened came rushing back to me. I honestly didn't know what to make of the weird night, but first things first. "Where are Leah and Audrey?"

"Leah is rushing Audrey back to your base camp in your Audi." One of the hunters informed me. "This man here told us that she needs to be locked up before she wakes up or it will be very bad for everyone. I must admit that I agree with him on that."

I looked back to Jamie. "So what's going on? I thought you were a mindless drone like Jake. But that wasn't very drone like behavior back there and how am I able to transfer my vampire powers? Also, what do you mean my children?"

"I was a drone." Jamie said in a very small voice. If I didn't have vampire hearing I wouldn't have heard it. In a much louder voice he told us "As promised, I will explain everything that I know, all I ask is that we wait until Leah is here as some of this pertains to her and I'm also sure that your leader will want to be present as well."

No one in the car disagreed with that and we ended up driving along in silence.

Although Jamie's blood had revived me somewhat, I was still very tired and ended up falling asleep on one of the hunters for the remainder of the four hour journey home.

I was woken up as we pulled into the hunters encampment. Apparently one of the hunters had radioed ahead and Leah was with Rupert in the courtroom awaiting all of us on the mission.

We walked through the encampment, Jamie seeming as calm as if he'd done this a thousand times before. It made me remember how nervous walking around here made me for the first few weeks.

We entered the building to find Rupert Mayweather and Leah sitting on chairs that had been placed in the middle of the room. There were guards everywhere, sitting on the seats around the outside of the center.

Jamie and I sat down on the two empty seats next to Leah and Rupert.

"You'd better explain yourself quickly." Rupert almost growled at Jamie. "My daughter has become a mindless drone and the only thing stopping me from killing you on the spot is the report from Leah that apparently you know a way to save her."

"I do." Jamie replied. "To understand how, you're going to have to let me give you some information about vampires that I can guarantee you don't already know."

Rupert looked angry, but nodded his head. Allowing Jamie to explain.

'There are two types of Original vampires, Royals and Ethereals." Jamie began, observing the look on Rupert's face that informed him that the hunter did not know what he was about to divulge.

"Now there is no actual royalty in Original vampires. The Royals are so named because they act like a queen bee and create drones to do their work for them. They are incredibly narcissistic by nature and have a massive craving for blood. The second type of vampire are called Ethereals, so rare that one hasn't been seen since 2000 BC until Violet came along."

Jamie now had the undivided attention of the entire room. "An Ethereal vampire doesn't create drones, instead they create children. The Ethereals are so named because they tend to act as a god like figure, watching over there family. The people that consume the blood of an Ethereal vampire become part of the Ethereals family. They keep their own mind and the vampire can transfer their power to any of their children as they see the need. The bonds of an Ethereal family are much stronger than those of blood ties. Everyone in the family will look out for everyone else, it is not a servitude setup like a Royal. Their life is also tied in with the vampires. If the vampire lives for 10,000 years, then so will the child. But if the vampire dies tomorrow, then they will to. Unlike a drone which is disposable."

So to sum it up, Royals are greedy and selfish while Ethereals care about their family's more than they do themselves."

There was silence and a few nods in the room, but I had to break everyone's thoughts with a few questions I need answered.

"So how did you get your mind back from being a drone and how is an Ethereal vampire created if they're so rare?"

Jamie didn't even need to think before answering my questions. "All vampires are born with the capacity to become a Royal or an Ethereal, however once they become one or the other there is no going back. You can never become a Royal vampire now, no matter how hard you try. The decision is made when you create your first drone or child and the intention behind that action is what determines your fate. For example, when Leah became your first child I'd bet anything that you were extremely worried about her health and safety right?"

I could only nod at how scarily accurate that statement was.

"Well by caring about someone other than yourself, you made the unconscious decision to become an Ethereal vampire. However if your intentions had of been selfish in any way, for example if you were hungry for blood and bit your victim, then you would have become a Royal vampire. 99.95% of vampires becomes royals during their first feeding. Hence why Ethereals are so rare."

"As for your question about being a drone. Well I was made into a drone when I was 22 years old and wasn't free to think my own thoughts until I bit you and consumed your blood. The blood of an Ethereal is much stronger than that of a Royal and will overpower the blood that makes a person a drone. I got my mind back when I bit you." Jamie finished.

Rupert seemed to have realized something as his eyes lit up. "So you mean to say that if Violet makes Audrey one of her children, then I get my daughter back?"

"Yes." Came Jamie's reply. "But you need to understand that's it's a commitment that can never be broken, nor will Audrey want to break it. It will be stronger than any loyalty she currently has."

"Do you think you can handle that?" Jamie asked, looking directly into Rupert's eyes while the green rings in his continued to glow.
