Chapter 9
By the next day, Sabrina was awake, dressed, and on her bed reading. She flipped a page when there was a knock.
"Good you're up," Luther said once he opened the door. " Family meeting downstairs now." Sabrina got up and followed him out.
"What is it about?" Sabrina asked.
" I'll explain once we are all together," Luther grunted. It was totally like Luther to not tell anybody anything about a problem until they were all together. Once they were all together, Luther explained everything to them, that Five said. Diego was in a cast.
" Three days?" Allisons questioned as she gave him a cup of coffee.
" That's what Five said," Luther affirmed.
" The old bastard did mention the apocalypse, come to think of it," Klaus recalled.
" He just left out the part about how soon," Sabrina nodded before taking a sip of her coffee.
"But can we trust him?" Allison asked. " I don't know if you've noticed, but Five's a little..." She whistled as spun her finger at her head.
"Our little psycho," Klaus chuckled.
" He was pretty convincing," Luther said. " If he wasn't trying to stop an apocalypse, those lunatics wouldn't be after him."
" That's why they were after him?" Diego asked.
" Yeah," Luther grunted.
" What did Five even see?" Allison asked.
" Uh...apparently," Luther began trying to find the words. "We all fought together against whoever was responsible." Everyone looked at him, expecting more. He clicked his tongue and stood up. " Okay. So, here's the plan. Uh, we go through Dad's research-"
"Wait, what?" Sabrina interrupted him.
" Whoa, whoa, whoa," Diego protested.
"Hold on, hold on," Allison said.
" Wait a tick, wait a tick, wait a tick, " Klaus said as he raised a hand in the air. " What actually happened the first time around?" Sabrina then recalled what Five told her on the way to get coffee.
'we all died' Five's voice echoed in her head.
" Yeah, what are you not tellin' us?" Diego asked. " Come on, big boy, spit it out." Luther looked scared and nervous.
" We died," Sabrina blurted out, everyone looked at her as Luther took a sip of coffee.
" What was that?" Allison asked.
" She said, uh, we died," Luther answered through a cough. Everyone grew stone, then an umbrella fell over.
" Ahh!" Klaus jumped. They then continued to discuss the problem at hand. Soon they were all gathered around the countertop by the bar.
" Just now, you're telling me," Diego argued. " No, we need to figure this out."
" It is just us?" Allison asked.
" It's everybody," Sabrina answered.
" In the house?" Diego asked.
" The whole planet?" Allison asked.
" No, outside the house," Luther answered. " Everyone died."
" Hey," a voice said, they looked to see Vanya and her boyfriend Leonard.
"Hmm?" Allison breathed.
" What's going on?" Vanya asked. Allison looked at Luther, then at Leonard.
" It's a family matter," Allison answered.
" A family matter," Vanya repeated. " So you couldn't bother to include me."
" No," Sabrina denied.
" It's not like that," Luther denied. " We were--"
" Don't let me interrupt," Vanya stated as she turned to leave.
" Vanya, wait," Allison called out. as she walked over to her. " I'll fill you in later when we're alone."
"Please, please, don't bother," Vanya said. " And I won't either."
" Vanya, that's not fair," Allison shook her head.
" Fair?" Vanya asked. " There's nothing fair about being your sister. I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember." Tears were in her eyes, she then turned towards the others. " And I used to think it was Dad's fault, but he's dead. So it turns out you're the assholes." She then left; Leonard slowly followed her out.
"Ouch," Klaus breathed.
" I'm gonna go find Vanya and explain," Allison informed once she was back a the bar, she turned and began to walk away.
" No, wait, there isn't time," Luther denied. " We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse." The door closed. " Now, there are loads of possibilities. Nuclear war, asteroids. But I'm thinking this about the Moon. Right?"
"How so?" Sabrina asked.
" Dad must have sent me up there for a reason," Luther answered. " And I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I sent field samples. The first thing we need to do is find his research."
" Hold on. Hold the phone," Klaus protested. " We all died fighting this thing the first time around. Remember?"
" Klaus, shockingly, has a point," Diego agreed. " What gives us a win this time?"
" Five," Luther answered. " Last time we didn't have him." Klaus started to gag. " We weren't all together." Klaus started groaning. " This time we will have the full force of the Umbrella Academy. That's what we need."
"So, where's Five now?" Sabrina asked.
" Well, he had a plan to change the timeline," Luther answered. " He'll be back soon."
" I'm going after Hazel and Cha Cha," Diego stated.
" What, right now?" Luther asked.
" Hell, yeah," Diego confirmed. " Three days. I'm losing light by the minute."
"Wait, Diego," Luther protested. " Look, I know you wanna avenge your friend, but we got a bigger problem here."
" She wasn't just a friend, Luther," Diego argued. " If I'm gonna die, I need to know I killed those bastards first. It's not about Dad. The longer I wait, Hazel...Stop making it about you." He walked away, as Klaus stood up and walked away as well.
"Klaus?" Luther asked. " Klaus?" He continued walking. " Klaus?"
" Yeah!" Klaus responded as he twirled around, throwing his arms up. " Sorry."
" So, what? You're giving up on the world, too?" Luther asked.
" Yeah, pretty much, Yeah, Mm-hmm," Klaus responded.
" So that's it," Luther said. " You're cool with us all dying in three days?" Klaus groaned and walked away.
" What can we do while we wait for Five?" Sabrina asked. " Who's to say he will even come back?"
" Sabrina," Luther grunted. She just walked away, and towards their rooms. She walked into Diego's room and helped him with his injury. He was trying to tie his shoe.
" Hey," Klaus greeted as he stepped into the door frame.
" Hey," Diego greeted. " You, uh...you mind?"
" Oh, yeah, yeah, sure," Klaus agreed. as Diego stood up." I'll...I'll tie that up. If you tie me up after. " He threw a long blue rope at Diego.
" Tie you up?" Sabrina asked.
" You know, last time I was sober was that roaring good time when those freaks had me tied up in the motel room," Klaus recalled as he raised his hands in the air.
" Wow," Sabrina breathed.
" You are one twisted bonehead," Diego declared.
" Why?" Klaus asked. " You're the one who's always like Klaus, you need to get sober, bro."
" There's better ways to get clean, bro," Diego informed.
" Not for me, no," Klaus said. " I need someone to take away my options.
" Fine," Sabrina said as she stood up.
" Okay, Thank you," Klaus breathed.
" Okay, can you help me?" Diego asked as he pointed at his shoe.
" Yeah. Yeah," Klaus said as he bent down to tie it. " Okay." Soon they were in Klaus' room tying him up in a chair. Sabrina flipped a page in the book she was reading. She saw that there was a monster scribbled on the page.
***Flashback***
They were around 11, Sabrina was hiding in her closest reading a book, they were supposed to be training, but she just wanted to read. The closet door creaked open and a body sat next to her.
" Get out," Sabrina whispered.
"Not a chance," Ben answered. " Not till you come to training."
" I just want to read," Sabrina protested.
"Train," Ben said as took the book and closed it.
" Ben!" Sabrina hissed as she flicked him.
" Chill out," Ben rolled his eyes. " Fun is on Saturdays between noon and half past noon."
" That's not enough time," Sabrina groaned as Ben took out a pen. He opened the book to where she stopped reading. He then doodled his horror onto the page.
" Number Six and Number Seven," Reg said as he opened the closet. " Get down to training."
*****
" Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah," Klaus said as Diego tied him up in a chair, in a random room. And Sabrina sat on the bed reading.
" I hate this room," Diego sighed.
" Oh, it got me high enough," Klaus recalled. " I picked it clean of anything of value after Daddy kicked the bucket. That's it, tighter and higher."
" So this to get you sober?" Sabrina asked as Diego tightened it.
" Yes!" Klaus breathed. " Ohh. Ouf! Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah."
" If I see a boner, we're both out," Diego warned as he continued to walk around Klaus. " End of the world and you wanna get sober all of a sudden."
" Don't get us wrong," Sabrina said as she flipped the page. " Good by you."
" But I'd think you'd wanna pop every pill on the planet," Diego added.
" Oh, the thought did cross my mind," Klaus moaned. " Believe me, but...there's something I need to do, and the whole pesky thing doesn't seem to work unless I'm sober."
" Luther did say to sober up for it," Sabrina recalled.
" Is this about conjuring the one you lost?" Diego asked as he kneeled down and began to tie around the ankles. Klaus let out a sad sigh. " What was her name?"
" His name was Dave," Klaus answered with pain and love in his voice. " We soldiered together in the A Shau Valley...in the Mountain of the Crouching Beast."
" Well, Dave must have been a very special person," Sabrina said softly as her heart began to break for Klaus.
" To put up with your weird-ass shit," Diego added, Klaus let out a snort.
" Yeah," Klaus chuckled. " Yeah, he was...He was kind and strong, and vulnerable, and...beautiful. Beautiful. And I was...foolish enough to follow him all the way to the front line."
" You fought it in the shit?" Diego asked.
" Oh yeah, baby," Klaus confirmed.
" How'd they let you do that?" Diego asked.
" Let me?" Klaus asked. " War couldn't take enough bodies. Please." He chuckled more." Including his." He sighed. " Hey, look at us. Loggin' in some quality sib time before the end of the world.
" Yeah, might as well," Sabrina agreed.
" Everyone I like is already dead," Diego informed.
" Ah, yes," Klaus breathed as Diego tightened the rope, by his back. " The lady cop."
" Mom too," Sabrina added.
" I let them both down," Diego whispered. " So here I am. Alone with you two." He tapped Klaus and walked away.
" Ah, shit!" Klaus cried out.
" What?" Diego asked, he stopped and looked back at him.
" I need to pee," Klaus informed.
" I'll kill him first, Sabrina multiply and you can kill him next," Diego said.
" On it," She agreed. They untied Klaus to let him go pee, he came back shivering, this time Sabrina actually helped tie up Klaus.
" Get you goin' here," Diego said as he started at the ankles. " A quick--"
" You know, no, I -- I think..." Klaus began as he stood up and got his foot out of the first tie. " I think this was..."
" Whoa, wait," Sabrina protested as the other two stood up.
" I think this was a bad idea," Klaus admitted. " No. I just-I should have had just one last hit to ease me into it. That's all I need."
" Mhmm," Sabrina breathed as Klaus started to make a break for the door.
" No, no, no," Diego denied as he got in front of Klaus, putting his arm out.
" I'll be right back," Klaus assured.
" I don't think so," Diego argued as he put a hand on Klaus's chest.
" That's not how it works," Klaus.
" Nope, just sit down," Diego said.
" Diego, listen, just listen," Klaus pleaded.
" Sit," Sabrina ordered.
" Just listen," Klaus pleaded, he tried to get around, but Diego sucked punched him in the gut, and Klaus bent over groaning.
" Sit down," Sabrina advised as Diego led Klaus back to his chair. " Sit down." Klaus was gasping for air and coughing. Diego tied his wrists firsts and then started to go around him.
" Damn it, Diego!" Klaus cried out and tried to escape. " Damn it! Stop it!"
" Nope," Diego denied.
" Stop it!"
" Nope!"
" Get off! Get...Get off!"
Diego shortly put Klaus into a chokehold. Sabrina rolled her eyes, sat on the bed, and picked up the book again.
" Listen to him Diego," Sabrina advised as she put her feet up.
" I can conjure her for you," Klaus informed.
" Disregard, what I said," Sabrina quickly said. She multiplied into two people, the other Sabrina went and grabbed a blue bucket.
" Patch! I can--"
" Don't use her name like that, okay?" Digeo demanded angrily.
" Let me--" Klaus began. " Just let me go."
" You can't conjure shit until your clean," Diego said.
" Please," Klaus begged.
" I don't wanna see her until I can tell her that I buried the bastards that killed her," Diego informed.
" Please," Klaus gasped. " Please, Diego. Please." He was shivering and gasping badly.
" This is for next time," Sabrina two informed as she walked over with the bucket. Sabrina stood up.
" Puke, pee, whatever you need," Diego listed. " Multipurpose. See?" He walked out followed by the other two Sabrinas.
" Diego, Sabrina, please come back!" Klaus pleaded. " You prick!"
" And where are you going?" Diego asked.
" I have a bar to run," Sabrina huffed.
" Three days till the world ends, and you're going to run a bar?" Diego asked.
" You are the one going after those two psychos," Sabrina said as she stopped at the top of the stairs to tie her shoe, Diego kept going. He walked past the book room, and then walked back and looked into it, before entering it. Moments later she heard heels clicking, she looked up to see Mom walking around, and her eyes went wide.
" Mom?" Sabrina gasped as she stood back up.
"Sabrina, dear," Mom smiled as she turned and looked at her. " Isn't today, such a beautiful day?"
" Gorgeous," Sabrina agreed, she saw Diego looking at mom from a distance. He looked confused but extremely happy that mom was back.
" I'm going to take mom on a walk," Diego informed as he walked into the room. " Care to join us?"
" I will go for the next walk with her," Sabrina informed as she started to back up the stairs. " Have a nice walk." The two smiled before leaving the house for the walk. Sabrina bolted up the stairs, she opened a door to a room, that has not been opened in ages. Ben's room, but too much disappointment and not surprisingly, not a single sign of Ben. She sighed, the room was still the complete same as when he passed.
For one foolish moment, with Mom being back, she thought Ben would be back too, she forgot mom was biotic. She looked at the quiet walls, she softly walked in and sat on the bed. She looked at the bedside table to see a locket, in the form of a bracelet. She gently picked it up and clicked it open. Inside was a picture of Ben and Sabrina, it was after Five had left and before Ben had died. When Five left, Sabrina took it the hardest, and Ben was there a lot. And when he left, Sabrina couldn't stay in this house another minute.
In the middle of the locket, was a note. She picked it up, and suddenly time flew back to when the family meeting was being held and Sabrina did not recall anything from the future.
" Hold the phone," Klaus protested. " We all died fighting this the first time around. Remember?"
" Klaus, shocking, has a point," Diego agreed as he threw a knife up and down. " What gives us a win this time?"
Suddenly there was electricity shooting across the room and Five appeared out of nowhere and onto the counter, clutching a bag.
" Je-Jesus!" Allison exclaimed as they all back up, Sabrina duplicated, and Sabrina went over to him.
" Five?" Sabrina 2 asked.
" You guys, am I still high, or do you see him, too," Klaus asked.
" She said his name, didn't she?" Allison reminded him.
" Five, where have you been?" Luther demanded as Five rolled off the counter, Sabrina, Luther, and Allison all tried to help him to his feet. He had slight ash all over him.
" Are you alright?" Allison asked.
" Who did this?" Luther asked.
" Irrelevant," Five answered as he snatched Allison's coffee from her hand. He got up, walked away, and slurped down the coffee, they all watched him from the counter. He then turned back around. " So, the apocalypse is in three days. The only chance we have to save our world is, well, us."
" The Umbrella Academy," Luther said.
" Yeah, but with me, obviously," Five said cockily. " So if y'all don't get your sideshow acts together and get over yourselves, we're screwed. Who cares if Dad messed us up? Are you gonna let that define us?"
" No," Sabrina two answered as they all shook their heads.
" And to give us a fighting chance to see next week, I've come back with a lead," Five informed as he held up a piece of paper. " I know who's responsible for the apocalypse." Allison stepped forward with her hand out, he gave her the slip of paper. " This is who we have to stop." They all crowded around Allison as she opened the paper.
" Harold Jenkins?" Allison asked.
" Who the hell is Harold Jenkins?" Diego demanded as Five slurped more coffee. They all looked at him.
