Chapter 10
**** Flashback****
They were arriving back at the academy when they were about 12 or 13, loads of people were behind the barricade, cheering; waving flags; many people were holding signs. Many had comic books in their hands wanting them to be signed. Sabrina could see signs called Body Double, the nickname she was given.
" They're coming!" a woman shouted. " I think I see their car!" The Hermes came to a stop in front of the Academy.
" I see them!" a man shouted. " I see the car!" Dad got out of the car first, then Luther, and then everyone else, people cheered louder. Sabrina duplicated multiple times and started to sign things for people as the original one was just getting out of the car, behind Ben. Suddenly a kid about their age, jumped over the barricade and grabbed Allison.
" What?" She demanded.
" Excuse me," the boy said. He was dressed exactly like them, in a homemade mask. " I'm your biggest fan."
" Hey, hey," Luther said as he grabbed the boy. " You're not supposed to be here."
" Get back behind the barricade!" Dad shouted as he pointed towards the other people, it went silent as the others made their way to the house. Sabrina returned to only being one.
" It's just..." the boy began. She glanced back at the boy.
" Come on Brina," Ben whispered to her, he grabbed her arm and pulled her along.
The little boy continued. " I was born on the same day as the Academy kids. I think I'm like them. I must be. I haven't quite figured out what my power is...yet." Dad knelt down towards his face. " But maybe with your help, we can find out."
" You have no power," Dad said cold-heartedly. " You never will have power. Now, go home."
" No, please," the boy begged. " Just...I...You have to let me stay. I came all this way. Please don't make me go back."
" A little word of advice, my boy," Dad said as he stood back up and put a hand on his shoulder. " Not everyone in this world can be powerful. Chasing something unattainable is a recipe for a lifetime of disappointment and resentment." He grabbed him by the back of his jacket and forced him down by the car. " So get off my property." The crowd was laughing, mocking the boy.
******** Present, repeat day.
" Harold Jenkins?" Allison asked.
" Who the hell is Harold Jenkins?" Diego asked as Five continued to sip on the coffee loudly. He finished the cup and then threw it across the room.
" I don't know...yet" Five admitted. " But I do know he's responsible for the apocalypse. So we have to find him. And we have to do it now."
" How is he connected to what's going to happen?" Sabrina asked.
" I don't know," Five answered.
" Wait, do you just know his name?" Diego asked as he stepped forward. " That's it?"
" That's enough," Five said.
" There's probably dozens of Jenkinses," Diego pointed out.
" Well, we better start looking, then," Five argued.
" Hey," a voice said, they looked to see Vanya and her boyfriend Leonard.
"Hmm?" Allison breathed.
" What's going on?" Vanya asked. Allison looked at Luther, then at Leonard.
" It's a family matter," Allison answered.
" A family matter," Vanya repeated. " So you couldn't bother to include me."
" No," Sabrina denied.
" It's not like that," Luther denied. " We were--"
" Don't let me interrupt," Vanya stated as she turned to leave,
" Vanya, wait," Allison called out. as she walked over to her. " I'll fill you in later when we're alone."
"Please, please, don't bother," Vanya said. " And I won't either."
" Vanya, that's not fair," Allison shook her head.
" Fair?" Vanya asked. " There's nothing fair about being your sister. I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember." Tears were in her eyes, she then turned towards the others. " And I used to think it was Dad's fault, but he's dead. So it turns out you're the assholes." She then left; Leonard slowly followed her out.
"Ouch," Klaus breathed.
" I'm gonna go find Vanya and explain," Allison informed once she was back a the bar, she turned and began to walk away.
" Not enough time," Luther grunted.
" We have to finish this discussion, we can get Vanya later," Sabrina agreed.
" I'm sorry," Allison apologized. " Am I the only one that's skeptical here?" Five stared groaning softly and looked down at his side. " I mean, how exactly do you know all of this about what's his name?"
" Harold Jenkins," Five informed in irritation. " You know the lunatics in masks who attacked the house?"
" Oh, yeah," Klaus breathed. " I think I remember those guys."
" Yeah, the ones that attacked us while you were getting drunk," Diego recalled as he glanced at Klaus and then looked back at Five.
" Yeah, them" Five confirmed. " They were sent by the Temps Commission to stop me from coming back and preventing the end of life on Earth."
" The Temps what?" Allison asked.
" My former employer," Five answered. " They monitor all of time and space to make sure whatever is supposed to happen...happens. They believe the apocalypse is coming in three days. " Klaus and Sabrina glanced at each other with wild looks then looked back at Five. " So I went to Commission headquarters and intercepted a message that was meant for said lunatics. Protect Harold Jenkins. So he must be responsible for the apocalypse."
" What do you mean, protect time and space?" Allison demanded after a minute of silence.
" Where is this Hazel, Five?" Diego demanded as Luther spoke along with the others.
" Commission Headquarters?" Sabrina asked.
" My skin is on fire," Kalus breathed.
" Do you have any idea how insane this sounds?" Allison demanded.
" You know what else is insane?" Five asked. " I look like a 13-year-old-boy. Klaus talks to the dead. Sabrina can make over 1000 Sabrinas appear in a second and Luther thinks he's fooling everyone with that overcoat." They all glanced back at Luther. "Everything about us is insane. It always has been."
" He's got a point there," Klaus agreed as he hung onto the couch for dear life.
" We didn't choose this life, we're just living it," Five said. " For the next three days, anyway."
" But the last time we tried to stop it, we all died," Sabrina recalled.
" Why is this time any different?" Allison asked. " Why shouldn't I go home to my daughter?"
" Because this time, I'm here," Five said cockily. " We have the name of the man responsible. Guys, we actually have the chance of saving the lives of billions of people." They all glanced at each other. " Including Claire." They looked back at him.
" You know her name?" Allison asked in surprise.
" I do," Five confirmed. " And I'd like to live long enough to meet her."
" All right," Allison breathed. " Let's get this bastard."
" You had me at Gerald Jenkins," Diego agreed.
" It's Harold Jenkins," Sabrina corrected.
" Whatever," Diego breathed. " I've already lost two people this week, I'm not losing anyone else." He started to walk away.
" And Luther?" Five asked.
" Yeah," Luther breathed. " You go. I'm gonna stay and go through Dad's files. I still think has something to do with why he sent me to the Moon."
" Seriously?" Sabrina asked.
" Now you wanna make the end of the world about you and Dad?" Diego asked.
" No, Watch for threats, that's what he told me," Luther recalled. " You think that's a coincidence? This all has to be connected somehow."
" No, we should all stick together," Allison insisted.
" We don't have time for this!" Five exclaimed.
" Let's toll. I know where we can find this asshole," Diego ordered. " Sabrina and Klaus you're with me."
" On it," Sabrina agreed.
" Yeah. I--I'm good," Klaus denied. " I think I'll, uh..." He peeled himself off the couch. " I think I'll pass, I'm..." He started to shuffle past everyone. " Feeling a little under the weather, so, uh..." Klaus went up to his room, as Diego, Five, Sabrina, and Allison headed out to the Hermes car. They drove out to the police station, Five sat upfront with Diego as the girls sat in the back.
" I know this Jenkins dude has to have a record," Diego suspected. " We gotta get our hands on this file."
" And your plan is to what?" Allison asked. " Waltz in there and just ask for it?"
" I know the station like back of my hand, sis," Diego informed. " I've spent a lot of time inside."
" Handcuffed," Sabrina recalled.
" Whatever," Diego dismissed. " Here's the plan."
" The plan?" Five asked. " I'm just gonna blink in and get the file."
" No, that's not..." Diego began. " You don't know the ins and outs of this place, okay?"
" I literally just did this yesterday," Five informed.
" What?" Diego asked. " My yesterday, not your yesterday. It'll take me two seconds. Why don't I just go?"
" Listen to me," Diego ordered. " You are not going in there."
" I'm with Diego on this one," Sabrina informed. " Five stays, Diego roll."
" Good plan," Diego agreed. " I made a call. That's what a leader does. He leads." As Diego went and got the file, the other three waited by a telephone, Allison called Vanya as Five and Sabrina leaned against the wall.
" Hey, Vanya...it's me," Allison began. " I just wanted to...Things have gotten so messed up. And...all I ever wanted was to be a good sister to you. Guess I pretty much failed at that. But you need to call me. Okay? I love you, sis." Five was grunting as if he was in pain.
" Are you alright?" Sabrina asked.
" Dandy," Five coughed as Allison hung up the phone and Diego returned. " So?"
" You're welcome," Diego said as he revealed the file and Allison snatched it out of his hands.
" Holy shit," Allison breathed as she opened the file.
" What?" Diego breathed.
She showed them his picture. " Harold Jenkins is Leonard Peabody."
" Vanya's boyfriend," Sabrina breathed in horror. They all got in the car and drove to Leonard's house. They all began to get out of the car. " Be careful, okay?"
" We don't know what Peabody's capable of," Allison added.
" Yeah, he didn't seem dangerous when I first saw him," Diego said as they got closer to the door. " Looked kind of scrawny."
" Yeah, well, so are most serial killers and mass murders," Allison pointed out.
"I mean, look at him," Sabrina pointed at Five.
" Thanks," He breathed.
" Good point," Diego agreed as Allison went around the corner. " So what's this guy want with Vanya?"
" I don't know," Five answered. " How about we ask him after we kill him?"
" Whoa, whoa," Diego breathed as he put his arm out. " Hey, look, I'm gonna burst through-" They turned to see Allison gone. " You know what? It would be nice for people just to stick to --" Five teleported inside. " The plan."
" We should-" Sabrina began as Diego jumped through the window breaking the glass.
" Ah!" Diego grunted as he fell to the ground, Sabrina rolled her eyes.
" Subtle," Allison said as she walked passed him.
" You know, the door was unlocked," Five said as he opened it to let Sabrina in.
" Yeah, well, my way works just fine," Diego groaned as he got up. " Spread out. Yell if you're, uh...you know, you're in trouble." He sighed as he walked away.
" Ah, inspiring leadership," Sabrina stated as she duplicated once.
" One of the greats," Allison agreed. They walked through the house carefully, looking for clues.
" Guys!" Allison called as Sabrina one was checking the bathroom and Sabrina two was in checking a closet. " You need to see this." They quickly hurried off to find Allison in the attic. Sabrina became one. Up there were millions of posters of the Umbrella Academy, all their eyes crossed off, along with their action figures, all their faces burnt off. Sabrina's action figure was her standing there, one Sabrina was coming out of the back, and another was coming out of the front. " All our faces are burnt off."
" Well, that's not creepy," Diego stated,
" This guy's got some serious issues," Sabrina said as she picked up Ben's burnt face statue. Two tentacle arms were coming out of his body.
" Shit," Diego and Five breathed.
" This was never about Vanya," Allison concluded as Five gasped. " This was about us." Then Five collapsed onto the ground.
" Five," Sabrina breathed as she knelt beside him, he was groaning.
" Blood?" Allison asked when they saw his hand. She moved his hands and Sabrina pulled up his shirt, a little, there was a bullet wound inside, bleeding badly.
" Jesus, Five," Diego hissed as blood seeped out, there were still pieces of the bullet in the wound. " Why didn't you say anything?"
" You have to keep going," Five urged weakly. " So...close."
" Five," Allison said sharply.
" Five!" Sabrina urged as she shook him and Diego tapped his face.
