Chapter 4

He stepped towards me. "What the hell was that?" He asked. He looked around, as if he were trying to make sure that it was gone.

"What are you doing here?" I asked. Oh no. This was bad.

"What was that?" He repeated.

Maybe I could just pretend that he was seeing things. "What was what?"

"That thing... you were talking to the lizard and then it turned into a person!"

Shoot. He did see it. "What are you talking about?"

"Don't pretend it's not true! I saw it! I know I did."

I laughed as I walked past him. "You're nuts."

"Aathiray, if you don't tell me the truth..."

"What truth?" I asked.

"If you don't tell me the truth I'm going to tell everyone what I saw."

I laughed my fake laugh. "And you think people are going to believe you when you tell them that you saw a lizard turn into a person?" I laughed. "I didn't believe it, what makes you so sure that others will?"

He hesitated. "I'll tell everyone that I saw you talking to an animal."

I stopped walking. "I wasn't talking to an animal."

"Yeah, you were. They'll believe that." He said.

I turned around and looked at him.

He crossed his arms. "Are you going to tell me the truth?"

I scowled at him. "There's nothing to tell." I lied.

He shook his head. "Well, don't come crying to me when people laugh at you when you walk past them in the hall." He said as he walked past me.

I watched him walk away. What a jerk. "Go ahead!" I yelled. "I don't give a crap!"

He shrugged.

If he wasn't such a jerk, he would be the most perfect guy in the world. I bit my lip. I can't believe such a hot guy would waste his life away with a terrible personality.

My stomach started to turn.

I had a bad feeling that I was going to hate school more then I already did.

"Is something wrong?" My dad asked as he turned into the school parking lot.

I shook my head. "No dad."

He looked at me. "Are you sure? You've been acting a little... strange."

"Yeah, sorry. I've just been really bored lately. You know, since Kero's not here." It was half the truth.

My dad parked the van. "Are you sure? If there's a problem, you can tell me."

I smiled at him. "Thanks dad, but really, I'm good."

He nodded. "Alright, have a good day, and good luck on your math test."

"Thanks dad!" Shoot. I forgot about the math test! I got out of the van and shut the door. I stared at the dent I made last Christmas when my dad drove away and wondered when he was going to get it fixed.

I then walked into the school and was surprised by Jacob.

"Ray!" He called. He sounded really excited.

"Good morning Jake!" I said, trying to sound just as excited.

"Guess what."

"What?"

"Guess."

"Umm, Chirpy's back?" Which probably means Kero's back.

He shook his head. "Nope."

"Umm... you got that job you applied for at KFC?"

"Yes... but that's not what I'm so excited about."

"Err... I have no idea."

He grinned. "I got a car!"

"Holy crap! No freaking way!" I yelled.

"I am dead serious!" He laughed. "Guess what car."

"Toyota?" I guessed.

"Nope."

"Honda."

"Nah."

"BMW?"

He laughed. "Nope... but close... I think."

"MERCEDES-BENZ?!" Oh my gosh. That would be hot.

"No! No!" He laughed again.

I frowned. "Then what? Volvo?"

"LINCOLN MKX!"

My mouth fell open. "No. Freaking. Way."

He laughed. "Hell yeah! Didn't you see it?"

"Jacob! You brought it to school? Are you crazy?!" I asked.

He laughed as he grabbed my hand and guided me to the parking lot. There, at a corner, sat the beautiful beast. "Of course I'm not! I parked it right next to the camera!"

I ran towards the midnight blue coloured Lincoln. "Oh my gosh Jacob!"

"I am one hundred percent sure that my parents wouldn't have gotten it because they wanted too. I think my sister suggested it."

I stared at it. "Open it! Open it!"

He pulled the keys out of his pocket and unlocked the doors.

I pulled it open and jumped in. "Oh my god... leather seats."

He laughed.

I looked at him. "Jacob... this is my dream car! I have a picture of it on my wall. You are making me so jealous! You bought this to rub it in my face, didn't you?!"

He continued to laugh. "Hey, I had no idea they were getting it for me! It was sitting in our driveway yesterday when I got home and I'm like, what the hell? And then I go in and my sister says it's for me." He grinned. "But hey, you can drive it whenever." He hesitated. "As long as you promise not to dent it."

I laughed. "Wow... Is it new?"

"I actually think it's used. There is no way we could afford such a nice car. But I didn't ask. And who cares right? It looks new."

I nodded.

"Are you walking home today?"

I nodded, with a grin.

"Nope. I'm driving you home."

"My brother is going to freak!" I laughed. "He's been saving up for a hot car for a long time."

"Hey Jake." I heard Chris call.

Jacob and I both looked up.

We saw Chris walk up to us. "Is this yours?" He asked with his mouth wide open as he looked at the car.

Jacob rolled his eyes when Chris wasn't watching. "Yeah. It is."

"Sexy..." He looked up at him. "Want to drive me around later."

"No." Jacob said, bluntly. "I don't want to get a ticket for reckless driving and have the car taken away from me like yours was."

Chris looked like he wanted to hit Jacob. Of course, he wouldn't.

Jacob was the type of guy who was friends who with everyone. He was the guy who everyone liked and talked too. Even all the girls, if they didn't like him romantically, they liked him as a friend. So if Chris even tried to touch Jacob, he would have to do a lot of answering.

"Hmm, you're funny." Chris said. He then smiled at me. "Hope you have an awesome day, Aathy."

I rolled my eyes.

He walked away.

"What a loser." Jacob said.

"I think he's jealous of you." I smiled at Jacob."

He laughed.
