2002
It was daylight but she's got no worries. She had her ring on her finger - the only reason she wasn't burning to death right now.
Although there was another reason that could cause her death other than the sun. The reason why in the first place, she was out in the light of the day where her pale as snow - especially now - could be easily noticed.
It was almost a week when she last ate.
Her bloodbank was empty; not a single drop was left and she was starving. That led her to now, out on the streets of Holmes Chapel, walking like a zombie.
Well, she's a vampire but what's the difference, anyway? They're both dead.
She was dragging her feet on the concrete streets looking for an easy victim. Someone whom she knew wouldn't resist that much, someone whom she didn't have to use so much energy on.
She passed by the woods - knowing very well there was no brave enough human who would dare enter it especially the present generation where vampires were no longer a myth nor a legend - when she heard it. It sounded like the sweetest voice she had ever heard, crying out for help.
She smirked. She could almost feel the blood trickling out of the wound as she drained that poor boy, could almost taste the sweet metallic taste on her taste buds as she drained him.
She walked deeper into the woods insearch of the melodic voice crying out for help. It almost sounded heart-breaking, if only her heart was still capable of that.
"Mummy! Daddy!"
She followed the direction from where the voice came from and she could already make out a small figure curled up in a ball, hugging himself as he was sat down on the dirty ground, helplessly seeking for his family.
"Gem!" he yelled, "Mummy! Daddy!"
She stopped a meter away from him. He was facing the other way so all she could observe of his features was his soft straight hair and his tiny figure swimming in a pre-teen's clothes. He looked so small and soft and she just wanted to squeeze his tiny figure.
She carefully stepped forward but winced as a crunching sound was heard when she stepped on a twig.
The boy immediately turned around in fear, in search of the sound.
Then she finally saw the little boy's face and gasped at how beautiful he was.
He was the prettiest boy she has ever seen.
The boy had an angelic face; big blue eyes and long eyelashes that brushed his cheekbones whenever he innocently blinked. His pink plump lips were stuck out in a pout. He had chubby soft cheeks that were slightly flushed due to all the crying he was just doing.
The boy suddenly stopped sobbing as soon as he saw her then he titled his head too innocently that she just wanted to squish his cheeks, "Hi," he uttered.
A smile of amusement soon appeared on her lips because, he was crying in fear just a while ago but when he met a stranger he says hi?
"Hello," she said, walking closer to him. "What are you doing here alone? Don't your parents tell you that going into the woods is dangerous?"
"They do," the boy said, wiping his tears adorably with his sweater paws due to the jumper he wore that was way too big for him.
"Then why are you here?" she asked.
He just shrugged, "Why are you here?" he shot back.
"Touchè," she smiled.
He grinned at her, his dimples showing, making her smile wider. She about melted at the sight.
"How old are you?" she asked.
"I'm eight," he answered, "You?"
"I'm twenty one," she lied. She was twenty one though, 200 years ago.
"You look pale," he noted.
She stiffened before she realized it was just an innocent statement.
"Aren't you afraid of coming here? The woods is full of unimaginable things, you might get hurt." she said, ignoring her hunger for a while.
"Well, you didn't hurt me so it can't be that bad," he said.
She was taken aback. He was certain she wouldn't hurt him.
"I still can," she warned.
He looked up at her and she could almost see a hint of green in his blue eyes, "You wont hurt me, right?"
She didn't answer.
"Harry!" someone yelled out, "Baby, where are you?!"
"Mummy!" the boy excitedly yelled before standing up and looking in different directions for his mother.
She stood up while he was still distracted.
You won't hurt me, right?
She didn't and she never understood why. He was just so pure and innocent and beautiful.
She walked away thinking she needed to figure out how to find food without hurting someone.
Not when that little boy's beautiful face would pop inside her mind.
The little boy turned around to take one last look at the girl he just met.
She was gone.
