{Chapter 17}
{Previous: The idea of the water system came back to me. But, why would they use wood as the walls for a iron door? The water would have most likely leaked through, or created so much mold that the wood would collapse on itself.
Maybe they didn't know... or maybe they weren't holding water in these. The idea was soon confirmed when I moved to the next drawing.}
The next drawing had what seemed to be the real vault to water. The drawing showed it to be made from metal and had a lever on the floor to open it. Now that the idea is confirmed... what's the other vault for?
CLASH
I jumped as the sound of what seemed to be metal rubbing against each other before falling into place occurred. It echoed throughout the whole mineshaft, sending a cold shiver down my spine. It could have been two logical reasons.
Herobrine was messing with me or... whatever they were holding in the vaults down there has broken out. To be honest, I hope it was Herobrine just playing a trick on me. But the hopeful idea of that being the case dissipated when I heard his voice echo behind me.
'Quite the ruckus down there.' He said following with a dark chuckle. "You mean that wasn't you??" I asked with a fearful tone. He didn't answer. Like always. But something told me that he was shaking his head no.
I set the pages down and looked back at the map. So the areas of the mine that haven't been searched are towards the west side of this dome place. So, left, right, left, left, right... ok.
I repeated the directions in my head a few times before even repeating it backwards. "Left Right left left right... you got that Herobrine?" It was quiet again. I swear, if he wants to get out of here so bad than why the hell doesn't he just help me out here?
Stubborn as I am I stood there with my arms crossed "I'm not going in unless you repeat what I said." There was a low grumble sound from him as he mumbled in response "Left. Right. Left. Left. Right... Happy?" I nod my head before looking down the hall.
This hall seriously gives me the creeps. But mustering up all my courage, I march my way down the hall with determination residing in me.
It was a long hall, that's for sure. A part of me almost felt like I was stuck in some sort of tunnel vision induced world. Where your walking no where up through this hole.
The thought sent goosebumps all over my body. I sometimes still wonder why I imagine these ideas when I'm in a stressful situation. As soon as I got to the turning points, there was a map on the wall, the map was similar to the one at where I was.
The only difference was that the marking point of where I was before is not there, but instead at this location. I began to wonder if it will be like that for every chance I have at turning. I looked to the direction I'll be heading on the map.
There were several points where there are dead ends. I wonder why they left them like that. Maybe it has something to do with the vaults. "Herobrine." I mumbled.
'What?' He answered, surprisingly to me.
"You've been down here before. Right?"
'....'
He was silent for a moment.
'Yes I have. Though it's been such a long time.... why?'
"Do you remember anything about the vaults here?"
It was quiet again, this time for a long while. But as soon as I gave up on foreseeing a answer from him he spoke up again.
'Sorta, I remember what the iron vaults are for. They were to hold in the water from other caves that were filled by the nearest lake here. Though...'
He pauses for a moment.
'I don't remember why they had the other vaults.'
He sounded unsure of his answer. Until he continued, now with a confident tone.
'I'm sure it was to just close off caves they already searched. From what I recall the wooden vaults are far too deep under ground for it to be linked to lakes like the others.'
"That... makes sense actually. I used to use that method when I went mining. But I would just leave a colorful object or a sign there." I explained.
He hums in understanding, 'How... does the mining go for humans now a days?'
"Oh you know. More advanced tools, and skulker boxes to move stuff easily."
'What the hell is a shulker box??'
I chuckle under my breath "That should be the least of your concerns really. You should worry more about the phantoms and bees."
Herobrine went quiet again. Probably out of the confusing fact that he didn't know what either of those things were. I didn't blame him though. He's been trapped here for over thousands of years...... and for a good reason....
"So... You've asked me questions. Let me ask you some... what exactly did you do that finally made your brother decide to trap you here?"
He growled lowly 'He's NOT my brother. Not to me. Not anymore. And what I did?' He let out a snarky scoff 'That shouldn't be any of your concern. And if you really wanted to know, your puny little brain would have thought to read a book about it.'
".... I did."
I fell silent as I recalled reading all the books in the library just days before arriving here.
"But there wasn't any trace of how or why you came to be here. Come to think of it, there was very little info about you at all since you vanished. People grown to believe you were some story to tell over a campfire."
I expected him to get snarky or furious or something but when he spoke '....Of course he would do that...' it sounded more, sadden. Or disappointed. There was a slight tug at my chest, I can't even imagine being nearly wiped out from existence.
Reluctantly, I remained silent for the remaining time I've walked.
