{Chapter 16}

{Previous: He was still in front of me. 'Look at me in the eyes.' He said. I felt a light cold pressure below my chin as it ushered me to look up. Eventually the ushering stopped as I looked up most likely into Herobrines eyes.

'Bedrock miners are the highest level miners there is. We'll see if you really do live up to your rank.'}

With those words the whole room seemed to fall into silence. Or more like. My mind fell into silence. I looked back into the mirror. He was gone. I dropped to my knees and let out a heavy sigh. That was just to close for comfort.

I look around the room. My eyes landed on the man made hole with a set of stairs going down. That must be the place. I grabbed all the mining materials I needed and tossed them over my back. Let's just, get this over with. I thought.

(Time skip)

I had been walking down the stairs for a good hour until I noticed it. The temperature. It seemed to get colder and colder as I got deeper into this place. While yes it's common for caves and mineshafts to get this cool as you travel deeper, but...

It seemed to be getting FAR more colder then regularly. As soon as I couldn't take the cold anymore, I grabbed the winter coat and slipped it over my shivering form. I let out a happy sigh of relief as the coat, which had been attached to my back this whole time, felt warm thanks to my body heat.

As I continue further down, it felt like I was back in the freezing mountains again. By this point it felt like winter. As I made my way down, I could see the bottom of the stairs. When I made it to the last step I noticed all of a sudden it was dark as the light from above faded away.

The sun must be setting, I thought. As I pulled out a torch and lit it. The light from my torch hit the room. I could see the inside. And to be honest, I'm slightly surprised and not surprised.

Icicles hung from the stone ceiling. Beds of ice rested on top of chests, tables, counters, hah and even the floor. It looked like one of the abandoned rooms back up in the high mountain realms.

The memories of once living in that frozen waist land flooded through my mind. It was just like this. Cold, dark, and a very cruel feeling of isolation. Mainly due to how the area was practically incapable of holding life as small as plants.

As I slowly made my way closer to the counters, I could see a large map laid out on top of it. The map was of the entire forbidden lands but it had streaks of red and black ink. Lined up perfectly showing it to be a maze like cave system. The red lines must be the ways that lead to rooms like these in case one were to get lost. Or something.

I grabbed the map and attempted to move it from its place... but it didn't budge an inch. It was then that I realized the map was frozen in place with a sheet of ice. Come to think of it, how exactly did everything in here get so covered in ice?

I looked to the legs of the table and noticed. There was a clear line showing around the bottom of one of the legs. Almost as if it were.... standing in a small puddle of water. But frozen.

I began to notice the same from everything else that touched the floor. The idea that I myself am standing on a layer of ice. Makes me wonder more on how the water had gotten here. Perhaps, maybe the rain from upstairs? But then, the room beneath the ground would have had signs of water, and the top was shielded with a old shack too.

"You don't think, maybe... There's some sort of.... flooding system here?" I asked to no one. I looked into the fog filled halls. My chest began to tighten as my brain had the nerve imagine how terrifying it would be... to see a faint pair of glowing eyes down those halls...

I looked away from the halls, and even move back closer to the tables as a futile attempt to feel safer. If I can't see down the hall, whatever could be in there can't see me, I thought to myself. It was similar to closing your bedroom door so your brain doesn't make you think that a creepy demon of sorts would be starring at you through them.

I hate it when my mind thinks these things. And to top it off with the thought that theres an actual chance of that happening makes my anxiety worsen.
'The book' Herobrine whispered. I shudder at the way he whispered those words. What book was he talking about?

My eyes landed on a dark blue book sitting beneath one of the shelf's. It looked almost perfectly untouched by ice. I grab the book, only for several pieces of paper to slip out. I quickly set the book back down and with one hand, grabbed the papers. The first one I saw, was a long essay.

The writing was almost impossible to read as the it was so... erratic. I set the papers down and spread them out. One that really caught my eyes wis a drawing colored in with blue. Most likely lapis since back before this place was even reopened for me. Humans used lapis for coloring and dyeing instead the blue ink we have now.

The drawing wasn't, realistic, to say the least. But it clearly showed a structure of the sorts. Iron doors that seemed to hold something inside. While surrounded by what seems to be dark oak wood.

The idea of the water system came back to me. But, why would they use wood as the walls for a iron door? The water would have most likely leaked through, or created so much mold that the wood would collapse on itself.

Maybe they didn't know... or maybe they weren't holding water in these. The idea was soon confirmed when I moved to the next drawing.

(OH MY GOD IM ALIVE!!!!
Yes this chapter is good. And tbh I feel as if my writing skills had improved this time. I could just be saying that since I hadn't written in a long time. Anyways hope you enjoyed this chapter and wash your hands!)
