Chapter Six 🧡
Chapter Six
Jayden’s POV
“Tobi is still sleeping?”
I asked, looking at the guy. He was still snoring when we were almost done dressing.
“Jeff wake the guy up.”
Jeff rolled his eyes and just kept up knotting his tie.
“You too wake him up. He needs to learn his lesson.”
I laughed out,
“Dude come on now.”
I picked my comb and walked up to Tobi,
I glanced at Jeff who was already laughing as he watched me warm up my hand for the slap that was about to land on Tobi’s back.
With a swing, I gave him a hot slap on the back and he immediately jumped up with a yelp making Jeff and I laugh the more.
“Come on now. This is pure wickedness.”
Tobi said, jumping from the bed while rubbing his back.
Jeff and I laughed our asses off watching him run out of the room.
“I told him Yesterday to sleep on time, he was busy on his laptop doing whatever.”
I combed my hair and looked at my wrist watch.
He still has close to thirty minutes to prepare sha.
“He told me about this website he is creating. I am helping too sha.”
“And you guys could not tell me about it?”
I sighed,
“You are the one doing the graphic design now, we are still building it from the crash so calm down.”
I stuffed my notebooks into my bag and looked up when I noticed Jeff was quiet.
As expected, he was looking down at me like he had something very important to say.
“What?”
He shook his head,
“I was just thinking about Jada.”
I stood up straight, placing my hands in my pocket.
“What’s wrong with her?”
I asked him.
Jeff has been a great help to me and Jada and honestly, I appreciate him every day for it. He was there when the bullying started and he also helped cheer her up during the holiday.
I cannot believe this cruel world that we live in but at least there are better people there who make it a little bearable.
“I was just thinking, what if someone brings it up again?”
I gritted my teeth and my hands folded into a fist.
Jada does not fucking deserve the shit they are putting her through. The worst part about all this is the fact that even though I told dad about what Jada went through, he still decided to leave us here because it is the best school in Nigeria and the word might spread if we leave here.
Mum does not know though. I am sure it will kill her if she does find out so we kept it a secret from her.
But I promise myself, I will see to it personally that no one talks shit about her again.
“I will kill them myself.”
“Jayden calm down. We will bury them together.”
I chuckled and we did our handshake thing.
He smiled and we were about to walk out when Tobi barged in.
How many seconds did this guy use to bathe?
“Guy, you are done?”
Jeff asked and Tobi just rolled his eyes.
“Wait for me jo. I will soon be done.”
I chuckled and sat down on the chair.
“Have you guys seen the new student?”
Tobi suddenly asked while putting on his trousers.
Talking about the new student, is that Jada’s new friend? Anike.
I remember her name because Jada has been talking non stop about her ever since they met. But I still don’t trust her.
Ever since what that stupid bitch Aliya did, I just can’t seem to trust anyone when it comes to Jada.
“I have seen her.”
Jeff said with an annoying grin,
“Me too.”
I added making Tobi roll his eyes,
“I guess I am the only one that has not seen her. She is Mercy’s roommate though. I heard she is even hotter than Sophia.”
Jeff threw the pencil case on the table at him while laughing hysterically like Tobi just said the funniest thing in the world.
I knew he was throwing a shade at me but I kept quiet instead and decided to let the both of them have their fun.
“Is it true, Jeff?”
“I do not know. She was wearing baggy clothes when I saw her but she looked cute. I heard she is also in class two. That class will be hot again this term. I feel like dropping out of the class.”
Tobi chuckled,
“Drop in your grades then.”
“That is a nice plan but my dad would kill me so scratch that.”
I smiled at the crazy suggestion Tobi made.
The suggestion would be a great one to an outsider but the truth is once you get good grades and people celebrate you for it, especially Nigerian parents, it is hard to drop. It is impossible.
Jeff had an A plus in Mathematics once and when he dropped to A, his dad literally almost killed him.
I do not get the point of using violence the whole time.
Jeff spent most of his time at mine because of this and I would even love it if he could just move in totally, away from the monster that claims he is a father.
“Let’s go.”
Eyy, how did he dress up so quickly?
“Are you flash?”
I made a mistake asking this because I could see his head swell.
“I told both of you. To be honest ehn, I learnt this skill in grade 7.”
Jeff laughed out,
“Those were the good old days. especially with those wicked seniors.”
Jeff said,
“Are you sure you are not sleeping? Good, not bad? Those were the worst days. I remember not even rinsing my hair once. I ran out because of those stupid seniors.”
I said with a smile as I remembered that bad incident.
“Guy you had it bad oo.”
Jeff said while Tobi could not even control himself.
The other dudes walking down the hall just stared at us weirdly, and stopped staring when they saw it was us.
“Guy, abeg how did you remove the soap?”
Tobi asked between laughter, making Jeff join him.
Remembering how I used my towel to rub it off and then wearing my uniform made me laugh too.
“Do not ask me a JAMB question.”
I said to cover my face.
“I am glad they shared the hostels though. The seniors back then were just plainly wicked.”
Jeff said,
“You know I almost thought back then that I would do the same things they did to us once I become a senior. But I can’t see myself doing that. I just can’t inflict pain on others and call it discipline.”
Tobi said, sounding like that cool headed boy I first became friends with not knowing it was with a crazy part too.
“You need to tell my dad that.”
“To clarify, it was torture.”
I added because it really was.
They just instilled a lot of fear in us and we, being the baby of the school, ran around so easily. Trust me, I ran around.
“Well, my guys welcome to another term in this shithole called Royals.”
***************
“Jeff, can you state the Hess’ law?”
I glanced at him and he passed me a smirk.
What is this guy planning now?
I hid my smile and watched him stand up.
“I do not know it sir.”
Ahhh!
A guy that has finished reading the Chemistry text book for the fifth time. I held my chuckle as Mr James nodded, gesturing for him to sit down.
“Dude, are you okay?”
I asked,
Tobi turned around with a grin, getting what Jeff also did.
“Better don’t fall for my advice oo. No be me talk am.”
Tobi muttered before facing the front.
“I just wanted to see how it feels. Is everyone following my lead or they really don’t know it?”
Jeff asked me to check what was happening.
The new girl was standing up as slowly as possible.
Is she really shy or is it just an act?
She also acted very shy when the class teacher asked her to introduce herself. She just has this vibe that I do not understand.
I don’t know if she is faking it or that is who she really is.
She stated the law perfectly and Mr James looked really impressed at that. He praised her a little as usual and told her to sit.
Immediately she sat, someone muttered,
“Such a show off.”
That voice.
I am sure everyone in the class already knows what that someone was. We all turned to Aliya and she rolled her eyes, facing her laptop like she did not just say something insulting.
I know it is wrong to hate someone but I just fucking hate this girl.
It is obvious from the look on her face that she is looking for more trouble this year. It seems like the one she caused for my sister was not enough for her.
Just like what other teachers do when it involves class two, Mr James ignored her comment and went on like nothing happened.
I glanced at the new girl and even though I could not see her face, I knew she was not expecting that just for answering a question.
The period finished quite earlier than I expected or maybe Mr James just decided to let us go early because he is not ready for another drama this year.
Immediately he stepped out, the whole classroom turned into a chatterbox.
I busied myself by packing my stuff into my bag. I need to get Sophia first before going to the Cafeteria and I am hungry already.
“Dude, Aliya is at it again.”
I dropped my pen and checked my sister.
They were standing by the door,
Mariam, Mercy, Jada and the new girl. Aliya and Lola stood in front of them.
“I think Mariam asked Aliya why she made that comment earlier.”
Jeff explained.
I nodded and Tobi, who heard us, looked up from the desk. When he saw what was happening, he stood up and walked to Mercy, placing his hand round her waist.
Jeff and I stood up too and walked up to them.
“Oh good, your body guards are here.”
Aliya said.
“Please excuse me. I am hungry abeg.”
Nini said,
“And Aliya, are you not tired of being a bitch every day? She answered the question well, how does that make her show off? Well, none of my business though.”
Nini added before walking out of the room.
I could see Aliya’s nose flare at Nini’s words but everyone knows no one can touch her. She is from a very powerful royal family. Someone tried to cross her once and for the first time and last time we saw the person get sent out of class two.
I glanced at the new girl and she looked so uncomfortable.
“Let's just go to the cafeteria.”
Jeff said exactly what was on my mind.
Thankfully, they agreed and everyone stepped out but before we could leave, the bitch ran her mouth again.
“Anike or what’s your name? In case you do not know, the person you are clinging onto has HIV, you should be careful.”
“Jada told me only smart people are in class two. I see they made a mistake putting you here. You are too dense to think like that and stigmatise.”
The new girl said before anyone else could talk.
Everyone stared shocked at her sudden words. She has always been so quiet. To be honest, I was shocked.
The grin on Jada’s face made me want to thank her.
Aliya had no reply to that so she walked away like the fool she is. Lola held eye contact with me for a brief moment before walking away too.
“Anike, is this really you?”
Mercy asked making her chuckle,
“I guess I just got tired of her.”
She muttered and immediately Jada hugged her,
“thank you Anike.”
I smiled at the sight, I glanced at Jeff and he had an even broader smile.
Why do I feel like Jeff likes Anike?
I walked up to them when they pulled out from the hug. Jada and I stayed at the back, with the others in front of us.
“Are you okay?”
I asked her,
“To be honest Jay, I am not. The problem is not the hurtful things she says, the problem is that she is the one saying it. my best friend of four years.”
“Jada.”
“I guess you were right after all Jay, I should not have told her. I am so foolish.”
I sighed when I saw the tears pool in her eyes.
She has managed to act okay throughout the holidays but that bitch spoilt everything again. I do not know if it is because we are twins but watching her like this always hurts me in my heart. I just wish I was the one in her shoes. I was the one who got HIV, not her.
“You know, I wonder why she does all these. Why does she hates me so much? And her secret with me, I still can’t tell anyone.”
I raised an eyebrow,
“secret?”
“Didn’t I tell you?”
I leaned closer to her,
Of course, we tell each other everything. Except this one I suppose.
“Tell me what?”
She stood on her tiptoes so she could reach my ears,
“Aliya was ….”
“Jayden you are late!”
Oh, what a great time to step out of your class Sophia.
