viv.  catching up to do !
╚═══════════════╝

THREE WEEKS CAME and went before Ariel believed that she should return to Earth and pay a visit to the Winchesters. She teleported herself to their location, which just so happened to be in Bobby Singer's home. Upon her arrival, Dean was so startled that he nearly dropped the beer can held in his hands. He gripped his chest and muttered, "Dammit, you have to let us know before you drop by." Ariel giggled in response to his comment.

Suddenly, a feeling of familiarity rushed over her when she sensed the presence of Sam drawing near. Overcome with pure excitement, Ariel wisked herself directly in his path, and startling him even more than his brother. "Jesus." Sam breathed after taking a step back. Ariel turned her head slightly for she was confused as to why he called her 'Jesus.'

A moment of silence passed between them before Sam immediately rushed to her and pulled her up into his arms. Ariel let out a squeal of happiness as he swung her around like a rag-doll. They both shared the same amount of happiness from seeing each other; Ariel could feel through her grace. "I missed you." He breathed into her hair. Ariel smiled before wrapping her arms tighter around him.

"I am sorry that I was gone for so long." The angel whispered as the two pulled away slightly. Sam brushed a piece of her hair behind her ear that had fallen from their embrace.

He smiled at her before taking her face in his hands. "It's okay, Ariel. You're here now, and that's all that matters."

The angel smiled even harder and wrapped her arms around his torso, wanting to feel his embrace once again. She knew in her mind that Naomi would frown upon this notion, but she didn't care. She craved his touch, and wanted to feel the passion from another being. Nothing could take away from that moment.

"Hey," Dean interjected suddenly. "We have some catching up to do." His statement caused the two to pull away, share one last grin, and follow after Dean into the kitchen. Ariel was met with Bobby's smiling face.

Ariel grinned, "Hello, Bobby." The older gentleman nodded in response. All four individuals took a seat at the cozy kitchen table. "So. . . What happened while I was away?" She questioned, glancing at the other men in the room.

"Cas didn't throw the bastards in Purgatory." Dean replied, rather bluntly.

The angel was shocked. "Are you serious? So this is what happens when I get summoned before completing my mission." When Naomi said that her intervention would make things worse, she didn't think the entire plan would be thrown away.

"Mission?" Sam questioned. "So you were supposed to put the leviathans back into Purgatory?"

"Yes. My supervisor assigned me to the mission of making Castiel throw the leviathans back into Purgatory. She summoned me into heaven the exact moment right before it would have happened."

"Damn." Dean muttered, leaning back in his seat and kicking his feet up on the table. "What's happening in heaven, then?"

"Oh, it is absolute chaos. Nobody has any clue of what to do since God has left." Ariel replied while looking down. A feeling of sadness washed over her as she thought of how her home was left in shambles. "God has been guiding us since the dawn of time. We have no idea what to do now that he is gone. That is what brought me back. I had no purpose up there." She looked down at her hands that sat in her lap. That was not the real reason she journeyed back to Earth, but she could not reveal her true intentions to them without facing consequences.

Dean slowly nodded, feeling empathetic for the angel. She lost her home, and he knows how that feels.

The four individuals conversed for what felt like hours, laughing and sharing stories about their lives. Bobby was the first to leave the scene. "I think I'm gonna go to bed now. It is getting pretty late." He justified. Ariel glanced at the clock on the kitchen oven to see that one in the morning was quickly approaching.

Dean nodded in agreement with the older gentleman, "I think I actually am too. I'll see you guys in the morning." He stood from his chair and began to travel up the stairs.

"Goodnight." Sam and Ariel said in unison. They glanced at each other bashfully with small chuckles.

Sam and Ariel were left in the kitchen alone. An uncomfortable silence overcame the two as they sat across from each other at the table. "Sam, I need to talk to you." The angel whispered. The male looked at her intently. "But I cannot do it here." She continued. "It is too dangerous. You need to go to sleep."

"Well now I'm excited to hear what you have to say, and I'm not sure if I can." Sam chuckled.

Ariel scoffed. "This is serious, Sam."

The Winchester muttered an apology to her. Ariel stood abruptly from her chair, leaned over the table, and pressed her pointer and middle fingers to his forehead. In an instant the two were transported into Sam's bedroom on the second floor of the home. Ariel forced his body to lie down on the bed with her fingers still touching his head. "I hope this will help you fall asleep now." She teased before allowing her eyes to glow, and for her grace to flow through her body into his. A few seconds passed before Sam was peacefully sleeping, and Ariel had a small smile on her face thinking he was so adorable.

A few moments later the angel dropped into his dreams. She was met with a large green field contrasted by a bright blue sky and a dazzling sun. Ariel let her fingers brush over the tall grass as she strolled towards the lake a few yards in front of her. Flowers danced around her feet in the wind as she finally reached the Winchester. She watched as he tossed a red frisbee towards a brown dog. Ariel smiled at the sight. Sam looked so happy, and that pleased her.

"Hello, Sam." She spoke out to him.

Sam turned to face her. "Are you going to tell me what was so important now?"

Ariel smiled and let out a deep breath. "Yes." She took a seat on a bench overlooking the lake. Sam joined her and allowed the dog to rest at their feet. "I hope that this does not back fire in my face, but my supervisor up in Heaven told me some news that you may not like."

Ariel glanced at the Winchester only to see him staring at her intently. "I-I was told that my feelings for you are getting out of control." A feeling of sadness begun to overfill her body as she spoke. "She has performed so many tests to try and remove them, but it is not working. Nothing is working." Tears have begun to well up in her eyes, and she became confused. Since when does an angel cry?

"I have turned into an abomination in her eyes. Angels are not designed to have the ability to grow feelings. I am an archangel. I should be the example of what to be. Instead, I have been given an ultimatum that could lead to my demise." She dropped her head in sorrow.

Sam frowned at her state. "What was the ultimatum? Maybe I can help."

"I do not think so, Sam." Ariel sighed. "I must choose between you or my job."

The landscape around them begun to grow darker. The once blue sky turned to a dark gray, and the sun seemed to disappear completely. Ariel frantically looked around her as the environment seemed to dissolve into darkness. "Sam?" She called out as the blankness seemed to be closing in on her. "Sam!"

An instant later, the two were in a cheap motel room. Ariel sat on the bed gripping her chest and breathing rapidly. Sam was standing in the corner of the room, one arm wrapped around his body and the other playing with his bottom lip in thought.

A few minutes of silence passed between the two of them. "I understand if you want me to leave you alone forever now." Ariel whispered.

Sam frowned at her and rushed to her side. "That is not what I want at all, Ariel." The Winchester touches her shoulder and wiped the stray tear that ran down her cheek. "What happens if you choose me?"

"I will become exiled and will live on Earth as a mortal with you."

"And what happens if you choose your job?"

"We will be erased from each other's memories, and it will be like I never met you or Dean."

Sam sighed and stood to his feet. He paced the room while completely deep in thought. "I thought angels could not have feelings."

Ariel sighed. "It has happened once before in history." She glanced up at him to see him looking back at her. "An angel fell in love with a human and once she died, he brought her to heaven to live together. He was considered to be an abomination. He represented everything that angels were designed not to be."

"If it happened once in history, how do you even know if they're feelings that you are feeling?" Sam asked.

Ariel furrowed her brows as she contemplated his question. She did not know if she was actually feelings she had, but Naomi seemed so sure. "I do not know. I just have this strong desire to want to be with you. You are always on my mind, and I just want you to be safe and happy. Are those feelings?"

A warm feeling overcame Sam as he listened to her words. He smiled and said, "If you didn't have feelings for me, I'd say you were obsessed with me." The both chuckled at his comment.

A few minutes of content silence passed between the two of them before Sam asked, "could you see yourself choosing me?"

Ariel sighed. She thought over her answer deeply. Ever since the dawn of time Ariel has cherished her job and done the absolute best that she could at it. Her love for protecting nature and humans has brought her on adventures hard to believe. She loved that feeling of knowing that she helped someone or something survive and flourish. She loved that feeling all of her life.

At the same time, Ariel thought about change. She thought about Sam. A human has never made her feel the way that he does. Her entire life she has been taught that feelings for another being was forbidden. But Ariel, being the rebellious angel that she is, can't help but wonder what it would be like. She has come to learn that she can not escape it. She did nothing to bring these feelings on, but a part of her does not want to let them go. Sam brings her the best feelings, and the idea of being with someone she loves excites her greatly.

"I think so." Ariel smiled.

Sam reached his hand out and grabbed hers. The angel smiled brighter and looked up at him. "You know how Castiel placed the bond on us?" She paused as he nodded his head. "I changed it to a permanent bond, without your consent. . ."

Sam smiled slightly. He then reached up and cupped her face in his hands. "Ariel, I am totally fine with whatever you decide. It is your life and I'm just happy to be a part of it."

Their lips were soon connected, but neither knew who initiated it. "Thank you, Sam." She said, in between kisses.

At that moment, Ariel knew what she was picking.
