Part one of two!
Jaxon's POV of chapter 29
"Alright, Jaxon." Eli jumps to his feet and jogs towards the door. "Let's go."
I sigh and follow Eli outside to where Isaac's waiting in his car.
"Get in, losers!" Isaac honks the horn, grinning at us. "We're going shopping."
"This is so unnecessary," I grumble, sliding into the backseat and closing the door. Eli jumps into the passenger seat and twists around to smile at me.
"It's really necessary, I promise," he says, putting his seatbelt on.
"This is already way more extravagant than my plan to ask out Felix," Isaac laughs. "I know it might seem like a bit much now, but I promise it'll all be worth it when you see Hudson's smile at the end."
"If it makes it happy, I guess it's alright."
"You're such a sap."
"I'm not a sap!"
"You're a sap," Isaac and Eli chorus.
"You're a sap," I mock quietly, crossing my arms. "You two are jerks."
"We're helping you get the love of your life, don't insult us."
"So Hudson and I get to help you get the love of your life, right?"
"Jack and I are already dating." Eli flaps a hand in my general direction. "You don't get to help do something that's already done."
"Neither of you asked each other out! You just started calling each other your boyfriend!"
"That is how dating works, yes."
"You are so sassy, Eli," Isaac remarks. "No wonder my brother likes you."
"I am seriously surprised he hasn't gotten annoyed by me." Eli turns his head to gaze out the window. "I'm an annoying piece of shit."
"You're a lovable annoyance," I correct. "To us anyway. To the rest of the world you're just lovely."
"I should act like myself sometime in school, see what people's reactions are."
"They'll be surprised as all hell. Do it."
Isaac chuckles as he pulls into Jack's driveway. "We're going to get Jaxon into some nicer clothes, and then we're going to go to Lolli and Pops to get Hudson some candy."
I quietly pull my wallet out of my pocket and rifle through the bills inside. I should have enough to get him a nice mix of his favorites.
"Hey!" Eli smacks the roof of the car, looking at me through the window. "Let's go!"
I open the door and step outside, grinning. "I'm gonna look so fancy."
"You won't if you don't hurry up!" Isaac stands by the door, his arms crossed. "Hurry up you moron!"
"I will go even slower," I threaten, walking towards him.
"You do that and I'll get Eli to punch you."
"Yay!" Eli exclaims. I hear his knuckles crack and speed up, stepping around Isaac and into the house.
"Nice."
I turn around just in time to see Eli and Isaac high five, smiling at each other.
"You two are best friends, aren't you?"
"Absolutely!"
"Let's go get you changed." Isaac spins me around and marches me downstairs to Jack's room. Eli pulls open the closet door and selects a blue top and black jeans, then spins around and throws them at me.
"Put those on," he orders, pointing at me and walking out of the room. "I'm going to go grab a brush."
"Never thought I'd put in this much effort to my appearance." I pull my shirt off and pull the blue one off, then quickly change my pants.
"You done?" Isaac calls.
"Yeah."
Isaac and Eli fall into the room, studying my outfit.
"White t-shirt," Eli says, snapping and going back to Jack's closet. "And a colored button-up. Does Jack even own those?"
"He does." Isaac reaches over Eli's head and grabs a folded shirt, throwing it over his shoulder. "Jaxon, change."
"Graphic t-shirt, graphic, graphic, plain, graphic, plain, plain, long sleeve, hooded t-shirt," Eli mutters, flipping through Jack's shirts. "I don't think he owns any button-ups."
"Check the other side of the closet," I call, pulling the white t-shirt over my head. Eli looks at the other end of the closet and pulls out a green button-up.
"Here." Eli turns around and tosses it at me. "Put that on but don't button it."
I slide the shirt onto my arms.
"Tuck the t-shirt, maybe?" Isaac suggests. I do as he says and both Eli and Isaac nod in approval.
"Okay." Eli claps his hands quietly. "Now what you need to do is organize some photos in chronological order?"
"Chrono what now?"
"Time," Isaac explains. "Organize the photos in a timeline starting with the most recent event and moving back."
"Now the question is where did I put those pictures?" Eli turns around and walks out of Jack's room. Isaac and I follow suit and sit down on the couch in the room next to Jack's, listening as Eli rummages through some things.
"Did you find them yet?" Isaac calls, tossing his head back.
"Yep!" Eli runs into the room, a stack of pictures held tightly in one hand. "Jaxon, put these in order."
"Starting with the most recent, right?"
"Hurry up, please."
"Don't rush perfection."
"I'm not, I'm rushing you."
"Wow." I press a hand to my chest, snickering. "Ouch."
"Sort."
"Fine." I roll my eyes and quickly sort the pictures, smiling at each one. "Where'd you get these?"
"Around."
"Fine, keep your secrets."
"Don't you meme me."
"Meme isn't a verb."
"Anything is a verb if you try hard enough."
"I think we should now go to Lolli and Pops and get the candy for Hudson!" Isaac exclaims, jumping over the back of the couch. "Stop being dorks for five seconds."
"Fine, alright." Eli flaps a hand at Isaac. "Let's go, Jaxon."
"Finally." I tuck the pictures into my back pocket and follow the two outside to Isaac's car.
Isaac decides we're going to jam to Set It Off the entire drive to Lolli and Pops.
"That one song with the lines about karma is Hudson's song," I say, slamming the car door shut. Eli shakes his head at me, grinning.
"You are so in love."
"I'm not in love!"
"Children, stop bickering." Isaac ruffles my hair before pulling open the door. "Jaxon. Candy. Get."
I walk into the store, followed by Isaac and Eli.
"Felix is calling." Isaac pulls out his phone and answers the call. "Jaxon's picking out Hudson's candy."
"Wait, are they in on this too?"
"I'm here too!" Eli exclaims. Isaac covers the mic of his phone before looking over at me.
"Come get me when you're done and I'll pay." Isaac walks outside, followed closely by Eli.
I glance around and grab a small plastic bag, filling it with yellow, red and blue gummy bears.
"Ah." I glance at the prices and recall the amount of money in my wallet, then set the bag down on the front counter and walk outside. "Isaac, I'm a few dollars short-"
"I told you I was going to pay for it!" Isaac exclaims, handing his phone to Eli. "Felix, I'll be right back."
"I didn't want you to waste your money!" I protest as we walk back inside to the front counter, where Isaac rests money.
"I told you that I would pay for it, so I'm paying for all of it." Isaac receives his change and I grab the bag of candy.
"I'm back!" I throw open the door and step outside.
"Oh joy." Eli looks up at me and rolls his eyes.
"Are you talking to your boyfriend?"
"N-"
"Wait, that's Isaac's phone." I slap my forehead. "Hi Felix!"
"Hello, Jaxon."
"Is that Jaxon I hear? Hey Jaxon."
"Eli!" I jump back, nearly hitting the wall behind me. Eli snickers.
"We gotta go," he says, turning off speaker mode. "See you when we get back."
"You're so mean!"
"Stop whining." Isaac grabs my shoulders and steers me towards his car. "We're going to get everything set up now."
"But Isaac-"
"Get your ass in the car."
