Howdy there!
Have you ever wondered why your story isn't getting much attention even though your grammar and punctuation are impeccable?
This book will give you the answer.
I am not a picky person or annoying but when it comes to books, simple mistakes make me unable to continue reading and I am not talking about grammar or punctuation. Believe me, my books are filled with these mistakes and I know for some - me included - English is not their first language, so for me at least, grammar and punctuation don't hinder me from reading (that doesn't mean you should not try to improve your English skills).
If you read my stories you'd know that I include many descriptions. I don't do that for fun only but also because I am trying to improve my English and I found that the best way to do it, is to write.
To keep this short -because I know how boring and annoying A/N can be - I am going to mention what this book will discuss.
But before I list the main topics, I have to give you a little insight into who I am so that you understand a little about me and the language, tone and topics in this book.
1| what do you need to know before you go on and read:
- this book was written in a moment of rage.
Yes, you read that right. Rage.
Before I explain, let's move on to the second point.
- I am a bookworm (who isn't on this site?) and a very moody person.
This means that books are everything to me. I simply love words in any form they come.
My reading preference doesn't depend on how many votes the story has or if it is an award-winning one. No, I read books according to my mood.
You see, when I crave a book to escape from reality, I go like: should it be sci-fi, paranormal, or just fantasy. Then, I decide whether it should be a thriller, comedy, romance...
So if I am craving some werewolf/mate shit, I search for that.
Therefore, putting moody and a bookworm in one equation + NOT FINDING WHAT I AM CRAVING
FOR AMONG THIS VAST LIBRARY OF E-BOOKS, I get pissed off.
I become frustrated and angry. Because books are a way to help us forget about something that happened or something you are anticipating and it's making you anxious and not finding what you want...it sucks. Just like a kid craving ice cream but have no means purchasing it.
So, I wrote this book because I was angry. I couldn't find what I want because all I see are duplicates. Copied books. Same start. Same plot.
- you will encounter colorful language.
This book is for me to vent and for you to know the common mistakes that many amateur writers do.
You might say: if you want a professional go find some other site?
I say to those people: a big fucking NO.
You know why? Because I read on this site for the same reason you do: I can read offline, it got a lot of books, I don't have to pay a penny and I can write my own stories.
I say to those people that I am not going anywhere, but if you want to get more reads, then learn from other writers' mistakes.
I know that many amateur writers here are young and I want you to take advantage of this book to become a better writer, not to be put down.
I am not here to spread hate. God knows there are a lot of people doing that in the comment section of books and I am not like that.
Take this as a learning experience, not as me criticizing you. Because I am not. It's about your plot. Your character. Your storyline. Not you.
Sure, many of you might say: but those are my babies! You criticizing them is like criticizing me.
That nice, but guess what?
You'll never learn if you take everything personal. I'll leave it at that.
I want us to be on the same page. This is beneficial for us both: you can learn from the POV of a reader. And in return, I might get promising books.
- hateful comments will not be tolerated.
- I encourage you to include your opinion so if anyone caught something that I missed we can discuss it, like mature adults.
-yes, I am an adult...sometimes.
- I'll try to keep cursing to a minimum - it'll not be that hard since I rarely curse and its nothing much, the worse word you'll find is f*ck XD I never been into foul words and never will, but to those who can curse like sailors...pm me I might need your supply of crude words to help with my badass characters ;)
-this book will not look into grammatical and punctuation issues.
-I tend to exaggerate with using punctuation and my grammar is sometimes off -.-
I am angry, remember, I won't pay attention to grammar and punctuation, grr...
-I don't mind you correcting my mistakes, I recommend you do that. In fact, if you love editing and are good at it, I might request your assistance to edit my books.
-if you are easily offended and take everything personally, then I suggest you stop right now. Your story might be one of the ones I am criticizing, so if that hurt you then please don't continue.
Main topics are divided into two parts:
1} CRITICS:
Yes, you read right.
I am going to critic those books, but I will refrain from mentioning the stories' names.
Reminder: this books' aim is not to spread hate but to pinpoint mistakes. So mentioning the stories' names is irrelevant. These writers may be young and fanciful (who isn't?) and didn't go back to re-write their books.
As a reader, I found many things in the stories that turn me off and make me abandon reading the book immediately and I am here to shed lights on these mistakes so that you can avoid them - if you want - when you make a new story or rewrite one of your old books.
Therefore, what I provide here is constructive criticism.
The critics will include:
• characters developing gap
• story plot holes, filler chapters(ad. vs dis ad.) duplication of ideas...
2} tips to improve
I wanted for so long to comment on the stories about the mistakes and gaps I found but I didn't. I am a very sensitive person and I know I am not alone. Many people are just like me and they consider their stories very precious despite its faults and they get hurt or embarrassed when you point it out, even if you weren't rude in doing so. that's what made me hesitant to point out the mistakes for them.
However, if you want to become a professional writer or you want to publish your book, I think the tips provided will be helpful for you and if you are only writing for fun then this book will not be that much helpful unless you start complaining about the lack of votes and comments.
Now then, if you are still interested hop on to the first chappie.
