๐ฝ๐ก๐๐ ๐ flutters her eyes open as the sun rises just over the top of the maze. A gentle, cool breeze blows through her long brown locks as she pushes herself up, groaning.
Golden light cascades over the glade as Blake stretches her limbs out. Climbing out of the hammock, the girl walks over to her stack of clothes piled near the wooden beam beside her. Scooping up her gear and clothes as she heads to the showers.
Upon showering and getting dressed, Blake slips the last boot on, tying it, then grabs her hair tie from around her wrist to pull her hair up in a high ponytail.
Once the brunette girl is dressed in her average maroon tank and army green cargo pants, she makes her way back through the hammocks.
The small brunette turns her head at the light snore carrying throughout the sleeping quarters. She smiles as her eyes land on the curly-haired boyโfast asleep in his hammock.
Blake's heart swells at the sight of the youngest and newest glader. ๐๐ฆ'๐ด ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ค๐ช๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด.
Chuck is like her little brother. She had always tried to care for the boy since he was the youngest. He came into the glade so scared he clunked his pants twice.
Blake had felt so bad for the poor boy as the other gladers laughed at him. Immediately taking him under her wing as she cared for the youngest glader like he was her own blood.
Blake leans down and places a soft kiss to the curly-haired boy's forehead. Her lips tug into a bigger smile as he mutters something in his sleep before shifting to the other side.
Blake enters the kitchen and spots Minho sitting at the bar, already enjoying his breakfast. "Good morning, Min," Blake greets him warmly with a smile, sliding into the seat next to her best friend with a yawn.
Minho's tired eyes meet hers. "Ahh, sleeping beauty finally awakes!" He teases, causing the brunette to roll her eyes.
Blake's emerald orbs flicker over to one of her other favorite boys as he shuffles food out of the pan onto a plate.
"Morning Fry!" Blake greets the other boy, leaning her elbows on the bar. "Whatcha got for us today?"
Frypan turns around at the girl's voice, instantly smiling at the small girl's bright smile. "Morning Blake! We got some eggs, bacon, and biscuits today!" He chirps as he scrapes the pan of eggs cooking.
Frypan finishes putting together a plate for the girl as he shuffles to place it down in front of herโmaking the girl hum at the sight of the delicious breakfast in front of her, licking her lips.
"Thank you, Fry, you're the best!" Blake beams as she reaches for her fork, stabbing the egg as she brings it to her mouthโletting out a groan of satisfaction.
Minho smirks from beside the girl, chuckling as she devours her breakfast. "We get a new Greenie today, princess. Wonder who the lucky slinthead is going to be." Minho laughs dryly as he grabs his empty plate.
"Maybe it's a girl" Frypan suggests as his shoulders raise to shrug, stepping to the side as Minho walks by.
The runner puts his plate into the sink as he turns back to raise his eyebrows at the nearly empty plate in front of the girl.
Blake shoots a warning glare to her best friend as she swallows down a bit of her biscuit. Leaning her elbows against the bar, the girl rolls her eyes playfully.
"Fry, we've said this every time it's greenie day. It never happens..."
Sure, Blake wanted to have someone to talk to. She has the boys, but she wished another girl would come up from the box so she wouldn't be as lonely.
She wanted to talk about things that the boys wouldn't understand. She had tried to explain to her closest friends why she was cranky on certain weeksโbut learned it wasn't something to bring up.
The boys cared for her and gave her a day off when the cramps got too bad, but none of them wanted to talk about the details. Blake felt alone in those times. It was hard being the only female in a place filled with teenage boys.
Minho, Newt, and Frypan are the only ones that really keep her sane. Besides Chuck, but she hardly converses with the boy since he was assigned a job.
Newt was like her big brotherโalways making sure she was okay. He is a shoulder to lean on when she feels sad and someone Blake would often seek for advice.
The blond had always been there for her, even through her rough patchโor her clumsy injuries. He was and will always be there for her.
Frypan and Blake had gotten close from Blake waking up every morningโmeeting him in the kitchen. The two would often talk about life and about what they think the world is like beyond the walls of the maze.
Blake would often help Fry with the dishes after dinner and help him clean up so that he could get a good night's sleep without going to bed late every day. The cook always had a big smile on his face that would brighten anybody's day.
And as for Minhoโhe is Blake's best friend.
The two have a flirty relationship but don't have any romantic feelings towards each other. (As far as Blake knows).
Minho is the keeper of the runners, along with Blake as his second. The two always run together, goofing off as they sprint through the maze. It makes the days go by faster, making the runs less boring.
The two often would play pranks on each other to lighten the mood or make fun of one another, causing both runners to halt their runs as they doubled over in laughter.
Minho was Blake's shoulder to cry on and favorite person to mess with.
Sure, she still went to Newt for their long talks on top of the Lookout, but Minho and Blake could always talk to each other about anything and everything.
Blake often calls him her 'platonic soulmate,' and she wouldn't trade her best friend for the world. He is the best friend anyone could ask for.
"Well, let's have hopeโand I hope she's hot!" Fry saysโinterrupting Blake's deep thoughts.
Minho chuckles at the cook's comment.ย "Me too!" He laughs, earning another eye roll from the girl sitting at the bar.
Minho's eyebrow lifts as he walks closer to Blake, noticing she left zero crumbs. "You about done there, princess? The doors open soon." Minho asks as he taps on his watch impatiently.
Blake nods in response as Minho grabs her 'empty' plate, taking it to the sink.
The shank decided to call Blakeโ 'Princess' as a way to piss her off. She hates that nickname.
But everyone in the glade is basically obsessed with the girl, considering she is the only female surrounded by a bunch of hormonal teenage boysโbut Blake is oblivious to it all. She only thinks of them as family. Minho loves to tease the girl about having every glader wrapped around her 'little finger,' as he would put it, but Blake never understood the extent of what he actually meant.
As she stands up, Blake grabs her harness that rests on the bar beside her, snapping it onto her chest as she looks back to Fry. The cook turns around and gives each of the two runners their lunch for the day with a sad smile. "Sorry guys, just sandwiches today"
Blake puts her hand over her heartโacting hurt, "Sandwiches again...noooo" She says sarcastically.
Fry laughs at the girl's antics while Minho rolls his eyes, smiling. Both runners stuff their packs with gear before Blake makes her way over to the hammocks to grab her machete. Grabbing the blade, she meets back up with Minho at the entrance of the maze, waiting for it to open.
The other runners soon meet up with the two best friends as they wait beside them, chatting.
Amongst them conversing with each other, Minho and Blake wait impatiently for the walls to open. The small girl checks her watch to see it's 6:59, and on cueโthe whirring and clicking sound of machinery and stomping echoed through the Maze. Wind blows through Blake's hair as the two turn their heads to each other, waiting for the entrance to grow wide enough.
The brunette girl smirks at her best friend with a mischievous glint in her eye. Grinning as they stand before the concrete, waiting.
As soon as there is enough room for them to run in, Blake pushes Minho back to give herself a head start, and Minho lets out a huff of annoyance, smiling.
"Race you to zone two!" Blake yells from the corridors of the maze; her giggles echo throughout the maze as Minho rolls his eyesโbouncing on the balls of his feet before chasing after the girl.
๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ฌ๐๐๐ก๐:
The box alarm blares throughout the glade, signaling the boys to stop what they are doing to meet the new greenie. Gally and Newt, being the first ones to arrive, lift the doors to revealโAnother boy.
"Day one, Greenie, Rise and shine!" Gally hovers over the terrified boy, not even giving him a second to open his mouth. The taller boy's hands grasp his arms and pull him up roughly, handing him over to the other boys to get him out of the box.
Dropping roughly into the dirt with a grunt of pain, the greenie rolls onto his back. What the hell? The greenie's eyes widen as strangers crowd around him, feeling his body starting to tremble as adrenaline courses through his system.
Not even thinking twice, the boy suddenly pushes himself up to stand and stumbles into a run, sprinting as fast as he can.
"Hey! We've got a runner!" Someone yells behind him, not drawing his attention away from fleeing.
"Blake have a twin?" Gally asks, glancing at Newt beside him with his eyebrow raised. Shrugging, the blond's lips pull into a small smile at the memory of Blake's first day. She almost made it into the maze if it wasn't for Minho.
Folding his arms over his chest, Newt watches as the greenie almost makes it into the maze, but out of nowhere, he trips on something and tumbles roughly to the ground below.
"Blake never tripped." The blond laughs, rolling his head to the side to send Gally an amused smile.
"Yeah..." Gally laughs with the other boys, returning his attention to the greenie.
Gazing in front of him at a crack in the large wallโ leading into darkness with vines cascading down from the walls as the path leads to nothing but a dead end; the greenie's eyes widen as he raises from his stomach, hissing at the bright light burning his eyes. Spinning in a circle as he takes in the four large concrete walls that trap the grassy plain.
"Take it all in." A voice laughs from behind him as the other voices cheer and clap.
The greenie barely registers the hands on his arms as he drags his feetโ being pulled behind two other boys, completely dazed and confused.
After being locked into a bamboo cage for what feels like forever, the boy runs a hand over his face, lifting his hand to play with the hem of his shirt subconsciously. Fiddling the fabric between his fingers, his head snaps upโhearing a different voice, startling him.
"Hey there, green bean. You're not going to run again, are you?" The older boy asks as he kneels to unlock the gate. The greenie shakes his head in response, keeping quiet.
"Good, my name is AlbyโCan you tell me anything about yourself?..... Who you are?.....Where you came fromโ-anything at all?"
"No" The newbie responds, shaking his head in agitation, confused as to why he can't remember anything. He tries to remember anything, how he got on the elevatorโwho he was.
"Can you tell me your name?" Alby tries again
"I-I....uh, I can't remember anything" The boy admits, growing more horrified by the second. "Why can't I remember anything?"
"Hey, relaxโrelax. It's normal. It happens to all of us; you'll get your name back in a day or two. It's one thing they let us keeโ"
"What is this place?" The greenie interrupts
"Here, let me show you." Alby leads the green bean back towards camp.
Gally and Newt stand off to the side, watching Alby lead the greenie away from the pit, most likely giving him the 'tour.'
Gally chuckles, lightly smacking Newt in the chest as he points toward the newbie. "Told you, Blake's little twin."
Newt only rolls his eyes at the builder before turning on his heels to head back to the garden.
Toward the end of the tour, Alby and the greenie walk over to Newt as he tends to the garden.
"Green Bean, meet Newt." Alby introduces the two, "When I'm not around, he's in charge."
Newt smiles at the new boy, "Well, it's a good thing you're always around then. That was some dash you made earlierโFor a second, I thought you had the chops to be a runner......till you face-planted. You almost made it farther than Blakeโ" Newt chuckles at the thought of Blake sprinting toward the maze on her first day. The small girl would have made it, too, if it weren't for Minho tackling her.
The greenie's face falls into confusion as his eyebrows furrow at the term.ย "Wait, a runner"?
"Newt, do me a favor...Go find Chuck." Alby orders, turning back to the greenie.
"Look, I'm sorry to rush this. You came up a little late, and there's a lot to do. We got something special planned tonight. Yeah. You'll see. I hope you're not afraid of heights. Let's go. Come on." He nods for the greenie to follow.
Standing on the platform where Blake and Newt usually have their long talks, Alby and the greenie look out over the maze.
"This is all we got. We've worked hard for it. If you respect this place...you and I will get along just fine."
"What's out there?" The greenie questions for the millionth time.
"Look, we only have three rules. First, do your part. No time for any freeloaders. Second, never harm another Glader. None of this works unless we have trust. And most importantly...never go beyond those walls. Do you understand me, Greenie?" Alby turns to the greenie as the boy nods.
