'Lose you'

"Good Morning, Kanae."

Her mother's soft voice sturs her from her light sleep, and the pale-eyed girl opens her eyes softly, lashes shining in the morning sun.

"Breakfast is ready," Chouka adds softly, excusing herself and backing away from the door, leaving Kanae by herself.

Kanae sits up, watching her expression in the mirror opposite her bed. Her lilac eyes were glowing, heaven shimmering in their favored human. Her long, black hair was tangled, but her bangs were fine.

She sat up, rubbing her eyes and taking in her shadow against the floor, before stepping up.

She loved the morning, everything about it made her feel refreshed, renewed even. "Haki," she called out softly, and her tight-bunned maid appeared.

Her morning routine started soon after, brushing her hair as her maid shuffled through her closest, finding an outfit for the day.

Kanae walked down the steps gracefully, flanked by Haki. They soon took their separate ways, the girl to her breakfast table and the woman to the maids room. Kanae twisted around the narrow hallway, her swishing-armed purple outfit staying on her tightly.

She finally found her family sitting at the table. Hiroshi, her father, sat opposite of her little sister Shinobu, and the two seemed to be arguing.

"Shinobu, no matter what, it isn't your place to violate rude children, it's the teacher's job." Hiroshi spoke first, calm and collected. Shinobu's response wasn't as such.

"He was annoying me! He was taunting me, and stealing my things! And, he almost stole my hair clip before I slapped him!" she replied, teeth clenched with suppressed rage. Hiroshi shook his head, "Then tell an adult before something like that were to happen. I know you're fully aware of his strict parents, young lady, and you know he isn't worth this fuming mess you're going through." he countered, watching Shinobu get angrier.

"It's better to bitch slap him!" Shinobu yelled, and Kanae sighed, feeling herself chant spoiled in the back of her mind.

She played with the broach she had just bought from the market, shiny and black. It was gorgeous, dark rhimbstones shining as her family quarreled.

Shinobu then stormed off in a rage, leaving her parents dumbfound. Kanae found it hard to believe the attitude Shinobu bore today.

Then again, she is as beautiful as she is stubborn

"Nemi! I'm hungry!"

Sanemi looked down to see his miny sister, Sumi, with an angry-to-tears expression written across their face.

Sanemi understood the girl's growing hunger pains, as he had them as well when he was small. But that time around, she wouldn't be for long, as he was working towards making enough money for all his other siblings. Soon, they would dine in luxury, courtesy to Sanemi.

In his dreams, maybe, Sanemi thought, glazing down at his worn pants and broked pockets, not a coin in sight.

"I'll buy some at the market right now!" he said with a smile, bringing himself back from his mind and into the present. Sumi cheered, throwing her hands up, and Sanemi felt his brain twinge with guilt.

Out of all people, Sumi didn't need to starve. The gorgeous, blue-eyed, sassy girl had a bright future ahead of her, and she needed food to make it there. He turned from her, after patting her softly on the head, and toward the door.

"I'm leaving to get breakfast!" he called to the house, and a clatter of jumbled replies sprung into his ear as a reply. He slid the door open, and someone called out his name.

"Sanemi," the weak voice stated tentatively.

The woman with bright blue eyes, shimmering like the deep water of the ocean, stepped out from a corner.

"Mother," Sanemi replied kindly, watching her slowly walk toward him, nearly buckling onto the floor, "I don't think you should go due to the fact you're supposed to be bedridden." he explained calmly, watching her expression change.

"Hah! They call this a bedridden sickness, you should have seen the things I caught and went to work with," Shizu recalled huskily. "Besides, I'm your Mom, I have to keep you safe," she said with a lighter tone, her thin lips knitting to a smile.

Sanemi bowed his head politely, "As you wish," he whispered, looking at her outfit.

Now, he realized, looking closer, wondering where the broach she loved so much was. She usually had pinned to her chest every day, sleek and black. But now, it was nowhere in sight.

"Mother, where is your broach," he asked quizzically, watching her step out the door and into the late morning sun.

Shizu paused, knowing the boy would be displeased if she were to tell him about the money she earned selling it. Although it would make him mad, it was what secretly fed him for the past two weeks. Seeing her kids happy was worth losing her precious broach.

"D'know, must be in my room somewhere. Now, let's head out."

"Why don't we split up, then meet at the orange section?" Shizu asked.

Sanemi turned, a look of concern spread across his face like honey. "Are you sure? What if you get into danger, I don't want you to be hurt," he whispered, eyes watching her's.

Pale purple on deep blue.

Her delicate smile never left as she brushed past him. "Wasn't asking," she jeered, approaching a stall that was bright red.

He whipped around, angered, but a girl bumped into him.

They both delicately rocked backwards, and he looked down at her, feeling a tight burning feeling in his stomach. Annoyance was a pain, and in the hot weather, he felt strained in his only pair of slacks and long shirt.

"Excuse me," the girl said, unnaturally lilac eyes focused on him. He remembered loving the color as a child, asking his mom why his eyes were dark purple and not light purple.

"Well, that's the way you were born, love" her words echoed in his head, and he shook off the memory, staring at the clipped-black smudge on her expensive clothes.

Black, with rhinestones and a dent in the middle, from him being a violent child and throwing it to the floor in a flash of temper-tantrum rage.

"I believe that's my mother's," he mumbled, and the girl looked at him like she was confused.

He smiled through the rage. He hated repeating himself.

"I said that's my mother's broach, where did you get that from?" he asked, louder and broader. The girl finally understood. "It is? Well, I bought it from a stand, it must have been stolen from her. How peculiar" she said, a silent tone washing over her words bit by bit, till they petered to silence. Her hands reached to her chest, unclipping the broach from her chest and on to her hands, delicate fingers supporting the glowing black object.

She held it out, a saddened expression clouding across her attractive features.

"Thanks,-" he said, stopping to let her fill in the blank.

"Kanae," she replied, and as she slipped it out of her fingers, a shadow appeared over her. Sanemi looked up, startled. He looked like her, the same shining lilacs and black hair.

Definitely related.

"Is there a problem, Kanae and-?" Hiroshi asked, turning to the young albino boy, dirty face causing him to step back. Sanemi felt resentment filling him, wondering if the girl was spoiled like this man.

"She has my mother's broach, and I would like to retrieve it-"

"No, he wouldn't" a voice intercepted, and a presence filled the empty air behind him.

Shizu looked at the two before giving Sanemi a lethal peak of a glare.

She repeated what Sanemi said, and Hiroshi looked at her as if she were crazy. Soon, they started talking, and their voices escalated.

Kanae and Sanemi locked eyes, both scared as they saw two of the market-patrol officers approach the two, weapons attached the their right thigh.

"Is there a problem?" One of the asked, looking at the two. Before either of them could respond, the second officer stopped gawking at Shizu and loudly spoke over the other officer.

"Aren't you the woman wanted for stealing?" he asked, and five sets of eyes widened at her face, not counting the nosy bystanders.

"Whoever you think I am, I am not she." Shizu countered boldly, yet the guards suddenly pulled her away, leaving Kanae, Sanemi and Hiroshi back, dumbfounded.

The guards pulled her over the train tracks, but momentarily paused, looking down. Shizu had stuck her delicate foot into the open hole under the track and into one of the spaces, anchoring herself to the track. Both tried to pull her back with multiple failed attempts.

One officer's hand slipped, falling back. The second one let go in shock, and Shizu fell forward onto the track, the foot hooked into the track now twisted into an unnatural angle.

She yelled in agony as a man's solid voice yelled, "Train Coming!"

He wad right. In the distance, a modern train sped ahead, coming straight for Shizu. Sanemi sped into action, running like the wind.

He made it before the train.

"Mom," he whispered, trying to pull her foot away from the track delicately. The train only got closer, and he was crouched straight in the middle.

Shizu looked up at him, tired eyes unwavering now, and opened her mouth. "I love you, Sanemi, so you must understand why I'm doing this," she quipped darkly, throwing her hand over his chest and pushing him away as the train slowly ran her over.

Kanae turned away, sickness rising.

This was her fault, her heart whispered, and she could only agree. Time slowed, everyone's screams were deep and hurting, and time sped up, as the train passed as quickly as it came.

She looked back, and saw the boy running for his life, tears making large pools on the dirt floor
