"You're kidding."

"I'm sorry Ms. (L/n), as staff of the hospital we are not permitted to make such insensitive jokes. Ms. Tendo is on her way to the hospital to see her son, and she asked us to inform you."

"H- how? He was stable! He was fine!" You insisted.

"Mr. Tendo didn't die because of his previous injury."

"Excuse me?"

"There was an intruder in his room, the police suspect that he got in and out through the window."

"So you're telling me." You said slowly. "That he was attacked a second time?"

"Ms. Tendo requests your presence here, and the police also would like to speak to you—"

"You think I give two shits about the fucking police when Satori is dead? Tell me about his condition you—"

Ushijima snatched the phone out of your hand and put it up to his ear. "I apologise, she'll be there soon." He said and hung up.

"What was that for?" You lashed out.

"Ms. Tendo needs you right now, we can find out what happened when we get there." Ushijima answered and put your phone back in your coat pocket. "Let's go." He grabbed your wrist and broke out into a run.

You weren't questioning him, he'd never been so stern with you, his tone of voice wasn't to be messed with. Besides, between the two of you, Ushijima relied more on logic than emotion. If there was ever a time to trust him, it was now.

Despite appearing calm and unbothered, every so often Ushijima's face was clouded with worry, doubt, and confusion. You removed his hand from your wrist and laced your fingers together, giving his hand a gentle reassuring squeeze. You weren't the only one affected, that was for sure.

Ushijima nodded at you gratefully, and both of you bolted through the hospital doors and charged for the stairs, heading to Tendo's room at top speed, ignoring the warnings of staff asking you both not to run in the hospital.

You'd never really understood the madness that overtook someone's head when they were angry, frustrated or struck by grief. But now that you had experienced it first hand, you didn't blame them.

Losing a loved one was more than enough to drive someone over the edge. As for you? You were barely sane in the first place, Tendo's death was just your breaking point.

"Tendo-san." You gasped, leaving Ushijima's side and taking both her hands in yours. "What happened? Satori can't be gone, this isnt real right?"

She couldn't speak at first , she only broke down in front of you and threw her arms around you. "He's gone, (f/n)." She bawled into your shoulder and you felt your body go limp. "My baby is gone."

"He was stabbed again with the same knife, same area. Last time it was a mere stab wound, this time he twisted the knife and that left more damage than the first time. It doesn't help that his wound was fresh too." The police explained.

"And where were you while this was happening?" You asked, tearing your eyes away from Tendo's body, which they now covered with a sheet.

"Pardon?"

"My brother. While he got stabbed by a psychopath who escaped without leaving a trace, what the fuck were you doing?" You demanded.

"(F/n), stop." Ushijima said quietly.

"Why? Why should I stop? I lost my brother because these people wouldn't do their stupid jobs right and now—"

"(F/n). The doctors couldn't save him. The police didn't know Tendo would be attacked. As soon as they heard Tendo's screams they gathered medical staff and they tried to help him. It's no one's fault except the murderer's." Ushijima spoke clearly, both hands firmly holding your shoulders.

You shrugged Ushijima's hands off you and walked away. He was right. He was always right. Of course it was no one's fault but your father's. But you wanted to have someone to blame, someone you could scream at and lash out at until all your anger dissipated.

You kept walking and walking, taking random turns in the hospital until you found yourself outside where the cold air was biting at your skin. You caught sight of a flash of red hair, but when you looked up it wasn't Tendo. Your eyes welled up with tears that threatened to spill and you moved further away from the entrance of the hospital.

When you were far enough from the sound of hustling and bustling of all the people, you finally let your tears fall. Since you didn't have anyone to take your anger out on, you lashed out to the wall. "You stupid dumb head. You said you were going to outlive me you fucking liar. You were supposed to buy me free drinks you asshole. You said you would so many things so why are you gone?" You sobbed, punching the wall repeatedly as if that would bring him back. "You can't go yet, Satori. You didn't even get to say a proper goodbye." You raised your fist to throw another punch at the wall but someone caught your wrist and whirled you around.

"(F/n), you have to stop this." The desperation in his voice was evident. "Look at the state of your hands."

You had barely noticed during your anger rampage, but your hands were starting to throb. It was only when you glanced down that you noticed they were scratched, bruise and even bleeding.

"Aren't you sick of me?" You asked.

"What?"

"I've been acting like a madwoman recently. Haven't you had enough? Aren't you going to tell me to suck it up and get over it?"

"Tendo was my friend too, (f/n)." Ushijima responsed. "I'm angry too. I'm livid. But I can't do anything."

"You can't do anything, huh?" You repeated. "You're not thinking hard enough, Wakatoshi."

"Alright then, enlighten me. What is it exactly that I should be doing right now. Self destruct? Lash out at you? At everyone who cares?" He questioned.

"Oh Wakatoshi, you have no idea what's running through my head right now." You sighed heavily and looked up at him. "You don't really know anything at all."

"Then tell me, help me understand." He begged you. "I want to be there for you."

Your expression softened. He had that effect on you, making you back down from your decisions. Making you think twice about everything. "I'm sorry for getting mad at you." You whispered to him.

He stroked your hair gently. "Don't worry about it."

Your phone buzzed in your pocket and you ignored it the first few times but after a while you grew impatient and whipped it out to see the texts.

CookieMonster: hello my dear (f/n)-chan
CookieMonster: no need to get your hopes up
CookieMonster: your brother is still long gone
CookieMonster: he looked so scared when he saw me climb in through that window
CookieMonster: the police sure are stupid if they're unable to catch me even now
CookieMonster: im sure you're angry right now
CookieMonster: how about you pay your father a little visit sweetheart?

"H-hey Wakatosi. I need some time alone. How about you head inside first and stay with Satori's mom for a bit?" You suggested, hiding your phone and pulling away from Ushijima.

He looked hesitant but nodded. "Stay safe." He told you and planted a kiss on your forehead before leaving.

Once he was out of sight, you opened your phone to text back your father who was on Tendo's phone.

Sleepyhead: tell me where the fuck you are.
