RIVER

          River tried to hide it the best she could, but she couldn't get rid of the burning question in her mind that was constantly nagging at her, urging to come out any second. River sat on the couch in Jinx's hideout, watching as Jinx focused on creating something knew, her hands moving around with a practiced precision and steadiness that she didn't have to think about, biting her lip as she thought of something knew to make it different to anything else she had made before.

"Powder" River softly called out, Jinx heard it instantly, feeling a knot grow in her stomach at the name, a name that was hard to hear and created an uneasiness within her but would slowly melt away because it was River that was calling her that. But despite everything and how much she tried she couldn't help the dark thoughts that clouded her mind.

"yeah?" Jinx mumbled quietly, River studied Jinx, regretting calling her Powder. She knew that she'd said she could call her Jinx or Powder, but River knew her well enough to see that hearing someone call her that triggered her, all though River didn't mean to call her Powder. It had just slipped out, feeling so natural to say yet so guilty knowing that it hurt Jinx to hear.

River thought a moment, debating whether she even wanted to ask or even talk about it. "You know when i had that nightmare..." River brought up, Jinx instantly dropped what she was doing and spinning in her chair, looking at River, opting her to continue what she was starting to say.

"I saw Sevika." River looked at Jinx, so intense as if she was seeing right through Jinx, like if she lied River would see it straight away, but Jinx knew she couldn't lie to River, not when everyone in her life had always lied to her... Jinx nodded her head, waiting for River to continue.

"Why... why didn't you tell that she was alive" she looked down at her bracelet, carefully fidgeting with the delicate leather band.

Jinx was ready for River to ask her why she didn't mention her at all, but confusion quickly washed over her "wait... what? Emmy or Caspian never said anything to you?" Jinx asked her, River was now confused "what do you mean?" River asked.

"they knew that Sevika never died River..." Jinx told her quietly, Jinx looked at River, seeing that she was completely clueless "what did that tell you?" she asked gently "they told me she died that day... that she betrayed Vander but then Silco turned on her... Caspian said that he saw her dead body when he went to take me but Silco got to me first" River said.

Jinx was in disbelief, time and time again Emmy and Caspian lied to her unnecessarily when all it did was tear their friendship's apart and ruin River's mental health. They had no good reason to lie to River.

"why wouldn't they tell me that..." River whispered to herself, shaking her head in complete and utter confusion. Jinx slowly stood up from her chair and walked over to River, she sat down next to her and picked River's hand up. River furrowed her brows before looking up again and offered and small smile to Jinx "i should go get Rio." She told her, squeezing her hand gently before standing up and walking away.

Jinx wanted to stop her but she knew she needed space to think and figure things out, so instead she murmured a bye and watched River walked away with a slight frown upon her face, instead of dwelling on it, decided to distract herself with her work instead.

River walked straight away to her and Rio's apartment, hoping that's where him and Caspian would be. Once she entered the apartment she saw both Rio and caspian asleep on his couch, it wasn't a big couch so Caspian's feet were hanging off the end and was half off the edge whilst Rio was sleeping comfortably between Caspian and the couch.

They both had their mouths wide open as snores left their mouths, River feeling as conflicted as ever. Knowing how close he two had become in such a short time but also been confused if she completely trusted Caspian still, if he had lied about Sevika, what else did he lie about to her?

River felt as if she had no one she could trust, which was weird because River always knew she would have Emmy and Caspian, but now... everything was different. so much had happened and River wasn't sure who she could trust anymore.

Caspian stirred awake, his eyes squinting as they adjusted to light streaming in the room. He straight away so River "ok have you just been staring cause that's weird" Caspian carefully stood up from the couch and stretched dramatically.

River rolled her eyes "you can't say shit cause you treat my place like it's your's" she gave him a pointed look. Caspian put his hands up in surrender and sighed "you got me" he dropped his hands and smirked.

"Ok you can leave now" River walked to her room "yeah yeah" he mumbled before making his way out, being able to tell that River was in a weird mood and Caspian didn't want to be in the receiving end of it, knowing how River could get.

River went to her bedroom, taking off her hoodie, leaving her in a tight black top and her usual baggy pants, going to the punching bag in the corner of her small room she started to punch it, it was a good release for her, it kept her grounded, let her emotions get out through her fists. Maybe something she picked up from Vi, which was not necessarily a good thing.

Dark came quickly, River only stopping by the sound of her door creaking open. She looked towards it, expecting Rio or maybe Jinx. Except no one was there...

River's face scrunched up in confusion, she slowly walked out of her bedroom, her heart racing, sensing that something was off. When she walked out she saw that everything was the same. Rio was still sleeping peacefully on the couch, it was only her and Rio. Though she couldn't shake the strange feeling that there was something more to it.

River heard a soft knock on the door, before opening it she looked through the peep hole. She was shocked seeing who it was. She opened the door and looked at her "Emmy?" she said, confusion written on her face, Emmy stood there awkwardly "wanna go for a walk" she questioned awkwardly, River looked at her with a questioning expression "a walk?"

River, Emmy and Rio all walked in silence around the Lanes. River was confused to why Emmy wanted to do it but Rio wanted to go out for a bit, saying he was bored. River ended up giving in because she felt bad turning Emmy away. Though in this moment she was wishing she had, the silence loud between them.

"So... how have you been?" Emmy asked, looking at River who stayed watching Rio who was walking in front of them, looking around. "Why did you wanna do this Emmy?" River ignored her question "i don't know... i guess i've just missed you. I just... i miss how we used to be." Emmy admitted with a small shrug.

"well you wouldn't of had to miss me if you were honest" River said plainly, Emmy nodded her head "i know... and i am filled with regret everyday all because i was dishonest with you..." Emmy spoke softly, River's heart ached ever so slightly. She was filled with equal parts of anger and grief when it came to Emmy.

Anger because of her dishonesty, something that so easily could have been avoided, not having to be turned into a big deal if only she, and Caspian, told the truth. But also grief because she missed their friendship, she grieved the innocent, caring part of their friendship.

But River knew that there was no use dwelling and thinking back on the past. She couldn't change what happened or how everything turned out, all she could do was try to forget it, or, forgive.

"Then why were you?" River asked her, still not understanding why she withheld the truth.

Emmy looked down in thought, "honestly, i have no excuse for the way i acted. There is nothing i could ever say that makes it ok. I-I was being selfish and inconsiderate. I guess... i guess i was just scared, because i knew that at if i told you that Jinx was alive, you were gonna leave..." Emmy started.

"if you had told me then none this would have of happened" River said softly, Emmy but her lip and nodded her head slightly "i know... i wish everyday i could go back and change what happened"

"I just... i didn't want to lose you... but then i did."
