Chapter 2: The Accords
Two years after the events of Sokovia, The Avenger's held a meeting. Despite not being on the team, Peter was allowed into the meeting. Ross was cycling through video clips of missions from the past two years. When he lands on Sokovia, Wanda's heart drops.
(PETER'S POV)
I look at the person beside me, but my attention is turned to the door when two government guys briskly walk in. I press my lips together, not wanting to sit through a boring debriefing. As I tune them out, the voices become like fuzzy background noise. It wasn't until Ross starts shuffling through clips of the missions that I tune back in. A frown crosses my face as many civilians couldn't be saved. I start bouncing my knee in frustration as it keeps going. "That's enough!" I stand up abruptly, looking at the screen which shows my homeland. I turn my attention to my sister, who's staring at the table. The pained expression on her face upsets me. I reach over and put my hand on her arm.
"The King of Wakanda is calling for the Avengers to be more restricted in their dealings," Ross continues. Knowing my efforts are useless, I sit back down. Ross tosses a thick packet of paper on the table. "Hence the Sokovian Accords. There will be a meeting in the UN in a week to discuss your decision," I pass the booklet to Mr. Rogers. He reads it intently.
Vision speaks up. "If we agree to do it, then..." he trails off.
"You give up your right to act as an independent organization," Ross finishes.
"And if we don't agree?" Ms. Natasha asks, raising her eyebrow.
"You will retire," Ross bluntly states.
I pick on something. 'How does this involve me?' I think. Mr. Rogers closes the booklet with a heavy thud. All eyes turn to him, awaiting his decision. "We'll think about it," He sighs heavily. The two men nod and leave the room. As a silent group, we all head to the commons.
It wasn't until Mr. Stark broke the silence that things took a turn. "I say we do it," he speaks up.
"What?!" Mr. Rogers cries, shocked.
"I mean, it's not that bad of an idea and if we roll over they'll leave us alone for a little while and we regain their trust," Mr. Stark said reasoning with a shrug.
I turn to Ms. Natasha. "What do you think?" I ask. She points to Mr. Stark and nods.
"Tony's right. The only way to regain their trust is to go with it," She sighs.
Mr. Stark's eyes go wide. "Wait. Did you just say what I think you said?"
"I'm already regretting it," Ms. Natasha states.
"Nope! You said it! You can't take it back," he cries, excited. He's acting like a child.
I huff in annoyance. "Do you ever act like an adult?" I mutter.
Mr. Stark stops and turns to me, narrowing his eyes. "You're one to talk. You're not even an adult yet, Peter! What makes you think you have a say in this?" I shift in my spot on the couch as he walks to me.
"Tony," Mr. Roger's calls, standing up.
Mr. Stark brushes him off. "No, I wanna hear his answer. What the heck makes you think we're going to listen to you? You're just a kid. Last time we let a kid do what they wanted, had a say in things, he ended up dead! So what makes you think whatever you say matters to me?!" He argues, staring daggers into me.
"Shut up!" I stand up, angry. "My brother died in my arms helping you idiots so don't you dare speak about him. Cause guess what, you didn't even know him. You don't know what he did while we were with Hydra and you're calling me a kid when you're acting like one with another adult! You don't know me or my sister. The only thing you know about us is in files. You're also one to talk. You built an evil robot who almost tore my country apart!" I yell back.
"Are you deaf or something? I don't have to do anything you say. Why?! Because I'm an adult and you're a kid! Now let the adults talk and go sit in a corner before you get hurt!" He continues moving closer, "Oh maybe that's exactly what you want?! You want to get hurt and die just like Pietro! Isn't that right? Huh? JUST COULDN'T WAIT FOR A BETTER MOMENT TO UP AND DIE SO THAT WE ADULTS HAVE ONE MORE DEAD KID ON OUR CONSCIENCE!"
Silence rolls over the room like a tsunami. My heat's ponding in my chest and my throat closes up. I can't breathe, can't think, can't respond. My vision blurs and my eyes sting. A small sob chokes it's way out passed my lips. I shove Mr. Stark out of the way and run. When I finally get inside my room, I slam the door and push myself against it. I reach over and click the lock. I slide down, pressing my knees into my chest.
(WANDA'S POV)
"What the heck, Tony?" I yell out.
"He needed to hear it."
"You don't have the right to yell at him and talk about our brother like that. You have no idea what Hydra did. You will never understand! So don't you dare scream in my brothers face again or I screw up yours," I turn my attention to the rest of the room. "And all of you just stood there a like deer in the headlights!"
"Wanda-" Steve starts, but I cut him off.
"Save it. You all call yourselves adults," I scoff. "I don't see any of you acting like one. Except Natasha," I gesture. I turn to Tony. "Screw you, Stark." With that, I leave. I make my way to Peter's room. I knock on the door, but he doesn't answer. "Mysh. Can I come in?" He still doesn't answer. I take this as a hint and decide to let him be.
After a little while of being alone in my room, I make my way to the living room. "Hi, Wanda," Natasha says. I look over to see her sitting on the couch.
"Hello," I respond.
"I'm sorry Tony yelled at Peter."
"You don't need to apologize on his behalf. He does. Now, thanks to him, Peter won't even talk to me. He hasn't left his room since."
"Tony had no right to talk about Pietro like that."
"He didn't, but I don't want to talk about it," I sigh. Natasha nods, understanding. "I need to talk to Peter, but he locked his door."
"Have you tried unlocking it?"
"No, I-" I facepalm, not believing I hadn't thought of that.
"I'll help you," Natasha stands up and I follow her. I watch intently as she unlocks the door with a bobby pin. I mutter a thank you when she's done. I walk into the room, see Peter sitting on the floor. He's in a trancelike state.
"Mysh... Peter, talk to me." He doesn't even look at me. I swear I'm going to kill Tony for doing this to my brother. I go into his mind. If he doesn't want to physically talk then I'll go into his mind to talk. (I don't think that's a power Wanda has so I'm just pretending). "Peter why are you not talking to me?"
"He's right, I'm just some stupid kid."
"Peter you are not stupid. You are the smartest person I know."
"He insulted Pietro I'm not forgiving him for that."
"Me either."
"He's a man who acts like a child. He doesn't know anything about us. He only knows us from our records and files. I don't want to talk to anyone but you and Ms. Natasha the rest of them can go punch bricks for all I care. Why can't we just be left alone we were fine before the avengers and Hydra then they screwed everything up?"
"I don't know Peter, but when I see Stark again I'm giving him a piece of my mind."
"I'm sorry Wanda I just want to be alone." I sigh, pushing myself off the floor. I gently close the door behind me as I leave. Peter hasn't shutdown since we were at the Hydra base. I walked out to the living room and found Steve.
"Where is stark?" I ask.
"In his lab, I think."
"Can you take me to him?" Steve nods. We walked into the lab. Bruce and Stark working on something.
"Oh, is your brother finally going to apologize?" Tony asks, turning around.
"No he's not. You want to know what my brother is doing right now, huh? He's in his room, sitting on the floor in shutdown mode. He's not even talking to me. You disrespected our brother and right now you are lucky I am not slapping the crap out of you. He locked himself in his room and won't come out because of you. You're just the idiotic billionaire who's heart is stone cold. The last time I saw peter do that was when we were back at Hydra. You are not a nice person, otherwise you wouldn't be speaking about Pietro in such a disgusting manner. Now if you have any guts to do something, I suggest you walk to Peter's room and apologize to him. but it's not like it's going to make a difference. He doesn't even want to talk anyone. Not even me."
"I never wanted to hurt him."
"Really you've got some nerve to say that after you just yelled in his face. I think you did more damage than you did good. I've said what I've needed to say. Just know me and my brother don't have much respect for you," I looked at him one last time before leaving the lab. Walking to the kitchen, I grab a snack and a bottle of water for Peter since he hasn't eaten. I walked back to his room he was sitting on the floor up against his bed. "Here, mysh. I got you a snack and some water," He finally looked up at me and I saw tears in his eyes. He just started crying. I sat down and held him. "Peter I know your upset but please don't shutdown again."
"I'm sorry, Wanda. I'm sorry."
"It's okay, Peter." We sat like this for a minute he ate his snack. "Okay, well you've got school tomorrow so I'll see you later." I left and went to my room and got ready for bed. I then walked to Peter's room to say goodnight. He was laying in bed, reading. "Goodnight mysh."
"Night Wanda."
"I love you." I said hugging him.
"Love you too," he lightly smiles. I left his room and went to bed.
