COMPLETE LORE

CHOI NA-HEE WAS BORN AND RAISED and raised in busan, south korea, to a small, hardworking family. her father ran a small but thriving market, and her mother was a homemaker who supported them with love and care. na-hee grew up with a comfortable, happy childhood, spending most of her time helping out in the market, learning how to interact with people, and all.

however, when na-hee was in high school, her father passed away unexpectedly due to a heart attack, leaving the family in financial ruin. the market soon shut down as her mother struggled to keep it running. after a couple of years, her mother was diagnosed with cancer, and the medical bills piled up. these events forced na-hee to grow up quickly and think about survival before anything else.

na-hee was a very intelligent and bright student with love for technology, especially coding. she initially dreamed of becoming a software engineer, but those dreams were crushed by her family's financial situation. with no money for university and a lot of debt, na-hee turned to the only skill she had left.

she started small, scamming people online to make money. it began with fake ads and cheap products but eventually escalated into elaborate schemes where she posed as different people to trick victims into sending her money. na-hee was careful never to show her face nor name, making it hard for her victims to track her down.

na-hee lives in a tiny apartment above her family's old market. despite its terrible condition, she loves the quiet nights when she can stare out at the city lights when she's overwhelmed.

her mother, now in bed due to cancer, is na-hee's only family. na-hee's scams pay for her mom's treatments, groceries, and their rent, but it's never enough. she's haunted by guilt for what she does but justifies it as a necessary evil to keep her mother alive.

na-hee doesn't have any friends. she knows a lot of people online through her scams but avoids real connections, both online and in real life. she doesn't trust anyone easily and believes forming attachments would only make her life harder and more emotional. while she hates people, she secretly craves friendships but feels she just can't.

her sense of humor is dry, dark, and sarcastic. she jokes about dark situations as a way to cope. na-hee rarely shows her true emotions but, when pushed, can be explosive and emotionally vulnerable.

she dreams of a life where she and her mom are free of debt and can start fresh, but deep down, she doesn't believe that's possible. her life revolves around surviving one day at a time, scamming just enough to make it to tomorrow. when na-hee is invited to join the squid game, she sees it as her last chance to fix everything. the idea of risking her life terrifies her, but the possibility of winning the prize money is worth it . . . for her mom's sake.

AUTHOR'S NOTES

honestly, i love her so much!!
like, yeah, she's a scammer, how evil, but she has a good heart <3
