1.9 | Arthur Tressler
──────────❝ 🃏 ❞──────────
Imogen and Merritt walked back onto the stage once the intermission was done, it was time for the final part of their show; take down Arthur Tressler. Merritt asked for the crowd to shout out their names, Imogen looked around before her eyes landed on a certain person for a second before sighing and turning to Merritt. "I have a... tingle. I think... Clemons Frannick?" Imogen spoke gaining the attention of one member of the crowd, "Yeah, up here!" Imogen looked over at them, "Oh, way, way up there!" Merritt chuckled as he spoke next, "Dina Robertson?" A woman stood up in the crowd, "That's me!"
"Josefa Hicki?" Imogen spoke next in the crowd of names being called out. "Over here!" A woman stood up in the crowd closer to the stage. Merritt took charge of the act questioning the woman about her money and guessing it, Imogen had moved off of the stage and stood with Jack waiting for their cue to return to the stage. "In fact, all of you are wrong," Merritt told the crowd of people holding envelopes above their heads. The others made their way back onto the stage after he said that, Imogen and Jack shared a look before walking to stand on either side of Merritt.
"Before we continue, let's not forget that this evening would not be possible if it weren't for our benefactor, Arthur Tressler," Imogen spoke as she stepped forward, her gaze on him. "Big applause, big applause," Daniel encouraged as the crowd went wild. "Arty, why don't you come to the stage," Imogen offered, her usual sweet smile resting on her face as the others encouraged him to join them on the stage. Henley took Arthur's hand and helped him onto the stage, she led him to the exact centre stage where they needed him to be standing.
"Now Art, did you fill out your envelope?" Henley asked him as she stepped towards the others leaving the man in place. Arthur shook his head and Henley waved him off as she spoke, "Well, no need. We've done it for you." Imogen smiled at that, "If my very handsome assistant will bring it on out." Jack smirked as he approached her with the large envelope in his hands, he kissed her cheek before holding it out. "Now Art, I took a guess," Merritt informed the older man, "North of 140, am I right?" Arthur chuckled at that while Merritt turned to the crowd and said, "That's 140 Million by the way."
Everyone in the crowd gasped at the reveal however, Imogen bit back a smirk as she looked at Jack who was smirking back. With Danny's help, Henley pulled out the cardboard check from the envelope as Jack went back to grab the enormously large flashlight. "I'm sorry, Merritt," Henley spoke as she held the check in her hands, "How can he be right about his balance and everyone else be wrong?" Merritt hummed as though he was deep in thought, "I think possibly because he too is wrong." Imogen turned to the crowd, "Everybody take out your paper and using the flashlight under your seat, start to warm up that paper. I think your correct balance begins to appear."
Jack stood next to Imogen, he interlaced their fingers together and kissed the side of her head temporarily distracting the crowd causing them to cheer. "Stop distracting them with your romance," Merritt scolded playfully encouraging Imogen to turn her head and kiss Jack on the lips, she pulled away with a grin before winking at Merritt. "Now, don't worry, Arty. We have a flashlight for you too," Imogen spoke as Jack held up the flashlight, the room lights turning off. Jack switched the flashlight on, blinding Daniel for a moment before he turned it to the large check in Henley's hands.
"What's going on there, Imogen?" Merritt asked as Imogen walked around to stand by the check, she was watching as the numbers changed. "Well, it looks like now it says that it's $70,000 less," Imogen spoke causing Arthur to tense up while the crowd seemed to be on the edge of their seats. "Now, Josefa, can you stand up?" Imogen asked the woman politely. "Yes," Josefa called back to her. "Now, what is your new number?" Merritt asked her. "$70,562 now in my account," Josefa said as she showed the audience, everyone clapped for her and her new fortune. "Is it possible that Josefa's balance went up the exact moment Art's went down?" Henley questioned.
"Hold that thought, Hen," Imogen spoke, "It's happening again!" They all watched as the numbers lessened on the check. "Art's balance has gone down another 280K!" Henley exclaimed to the crowd. "Dina Robertson, what does yours say?" Merritt asked the other woman. "$281, 477," Dina called out, the crowd cheering as Jack turned off the light and Daniel set down the check. "We have a confession to make," Henley admitted to everyone. "She's right," Jack agreed as he stood next to Imogen, "We lied about something." Daniel stood tall, "None of you were chosen at random, "All of you have one thing in common."
"Everyone in this room was a victim of the hard times that hit one of America's most treasured cities," Imogen spoke out next before Merritt said, "Some of you lost your houses, your cars..." Henley spoke, "Your businesses." Jack sighed, "Your loved ones." Jack interlaced his fingers with Imogen's as she lowered her head slightly before looking back at the crowd. "But all of you were taken advantage of," Imogen spoke next, "All of you were screwed over by the same company." All five of them spoke, "Tressler Insurance." Arthur stood there nervously; he was stunned to see that they were betraying him. Tension rose from the audience, they were angered by what they were currently hearing.
"We were abandoned," Imogen spoke as her eyes focused on Arthur. "You were loop-holed!" Henley shouted angrily. "-Out of your settlements," Jack finished. Arthur walked towards Imogen with an unhappy expression, "This is all for show, correct?" Imogen covered her mic, "All meaning in front of an audience that paid? Then yes, it's all for show." Arthur reached out to grab her but Jack was quick to pull her out of the way just in time, the crowd was riled up and were booing the man. A phone rang out in the crowd and the one responsible called out, "I got $82,000 in my bank account! It says here on my cell phone!"
Following that, more phones rang out through the crowd and the audience stood up and cheered for the Horsemen. They all received the money they rightfully deserved that had been robbed from them during the time that the Hurricane struck New Orleans. "Did you do this!?" Arthur pointed angrily at Merritt. "How could we, Art?" Jack questioned him as he walked backwards to the back of the stage, "We don't have your password." Henley smirked following Jack's actions, "We'd need access to information we could never get our hands on." Imogen moved to stand next to Daniel as he spoke, "Security questions. Like, I don't know... your mother's maiden name."
"Or the name of your first pet," Imogen added as she and Daniel high fived each other, the two making their way to the back of the stage with Henley and Jack. "Where would we get that information, Art? You certaintly wouldn't tell us those things," Merritt taunted further from where he walked by Arthur. The man moved to grab Merritt but he didn't make it far due to his foot being shackled to the bottom of the stage. "Hey, don't feel glum, Arty," Imogen spoke gaining the man's attention on her, "We left you the jet and the rolls." Merritt stood in line with the other Magicians while Arthur hesitantly turned to face the crowd who were screaming at him; making him regret turning to face them.
Agent Rhodes was rushing to get to the stage, he weaved through the groups of angry people with his gun in hand, ordering the Horsemen to stop where they were. "Freeze!" Agent Rhodes called out making Imogen smirk. "Quarterback!" One of the ladies from earlier in the show shouted and pointed in the direction of Agent Rhodes. The hypnosis immediately took into effect as the twelve people ran after him. "We are the Four Horsemen," Merritt, Henley, Daniel and Jack spoke in sync as they grabbed their ropes before Imogen spoke next, "And their Queen." Imogen held the rope tight as they were all pulled up to the roof from the stage.
While the commotion was happening below, the ropes brought the Horsemen to the roof of the stage, they helped each other step onto the platform. "Alright, you all know the plan?" Daniel asked them, they all nodded. Imogen and Jack shared a look before he quickly cupped her cheek and kissed her. "Let's do it," Imogen said before they all moved quickly to escape the building and work their best to not get caught by any of the FBI or Interpol agents because that would be a very troublesome situation for all of them.

All five of the magicians had split up knowing it would be easier to outsmart the FBI if they weren't focused on the others. Imogen managed to sneak her way through the large crowds before climbing into a building, her breath was shallow but she was quick to change her clothes into some camo pants that weren't tight on her, a black shirt and a random hoodie. She quickly used the back exit to make her way towards the spot she had to meet Jack at, their plan could only work if both of them were in the right spot. It was clear they needed more sympathy votes in society than just reputation; so plan B it was.
They all managed to meet up in the right place, Jack dressed in a stolen uniform to fit the role of driving the police car he had taken. They stole Arthur's jet to fly back to New York for the first steps to their final plan, Imogen laid back against Jack's chest as he brushed his fingers through her hair. "This will work," Jack told her in a soft tone. "I know but... I'm still worried," Imogen told him as she moved her head to look up at him. "You can back out of our part, Gen. We have both plans prepped," Jack reminded her. "No way... Let's Thelma and Louise this shit," Imogen told him, Jack chuckled before he leaned down to kiss her.
Daniel turned his head away from that sight and let out a breath as Henley sat next to him. "It's hard, huh?" Henley asked him. "What?" Daniel questioned in reply. "Seeing the person you like with someone else," Henley answered him softly. "What are you talking about? I don't--" Daniel was cut off by Henley's look. "You didn't at first but then you got to know her," Henley said with a soft smile, "It's okay, Daniel. These things are out of our control." Daniel sighed and turned his eyes back to Jack and Imogen, the two had their eyes closed. "She's happy, that's what matters, right?" Daniel said before the two fell silent.

Ignoring the others as they argued in the apartment, Imogen packed a small bag that Henley would be taking with her. She knew the others were tense with the plan but she had faith in them, they had made it this far already. "Hey!" Imogen called out when Daniel and Jack snapped at each other, "That's enough! I get it, you're tense but we got this as long as everyone stays level headed." They were silenced by her leadership, the usually timid woman wasn't backing down and they could all see that in the way she stood with her head high. "Guys, they're here!" Merritt informed everyone, they all shared one more look.
Imogen gave Henley and Merritt a hug as they left the apartment, they were going to the warehouse ahead of Jack and Imogen. Jack continued burning things as Daniel was stopped by Imogen, "Hey, it's gonna be okay, Danny. We've all got this." Daniel looked at her, his focus taken by her eyes before he hugged her. "I'll see you on the other side," Imogen promised him before they pulled away, Daniel nodded to Jack before he left with the other two. "Let's do this quickly," Imogen told him, they were efficient in destroying the evidence that needed to be removed. "You really think the others meant it?" Imogen asked Jack softly.
"Meant what?" Jack asked her. "What Merritt said, that he's in it for the pot of gold and then he's gone. That once this is over, everyone will just leave," Imogen answered him, her eyes were misty as she fought her emotions; it really was not the time for this but she couldn't hide it from Jack and he didn't need distractions. "Hey, everyone was just tense, Gen. We're a family now," Jack assured her, the words weren't much but they were enough for now. Agent Rhodes interrupted the two and Imogen quickly moved out of the way leaving Jack to handle it while she destroyed the last of the evidence she could.
"We gotta go!" Jack called as he grabbed her arm. "But the papers!" Imogen called back as she snatched them and held them tight in her hand. The two barely managed to escape the agents, exiting the building before Imogen pulled Jack over to the car they had marked. Both were panting as they got in, Jack speeding off instantly as police cars chased behind the two of them. "Have I ever mentioned how attractive you are when you mimic voices?" Imogen breathed out making Jack chuckle as he reached the bridge, the two shared a look just moments before the car swerved too hard.
The car rolled. Once. Twice. And then again before it came to a stop upside down. Agent Rhodes rushed towards the Black Sedan in a feeble attempt to rescue the two passengers however, with only papers in his hand he was pulled away from the car just before it blew up taking the two passengers with it. The smoke from the blazing car filled the air as everyone around the sight watched on. Agent Rhodes took in greedy breaths as he looked at the sight, his heart was torn seeing the results of something that shouldn't have happened. A young couple taken from the world when they deserved to live and for what? A damn magic trick and a little too much passion.
