015 Rule

015 !! RULE

It is a fairly normal day in Outer Banks.

I say 'fairly normal' because Georgie is definitely not fuming as she sweeps the floors of the mostly vacant restaurant while thinking about John B and Kiara dancing at that very spot just the previous night.

Good news?

The drone works.

Bad news?

John B and Kiara definitely have something going on, something that no one is talking about.

Something that even her brother who is obsessed with the very idea of gossip wouldn't say a word about besides giving her a nonchalant shrug and moving away to avoid talking about it.

No Pogue on Pogue macking, that's the rule.

That's the simple explicit rule.

How hard is it to follow one goddamn rule?

One rule. They only have one rule and her friends cannot even adhere to that.

Disgusting.

She's busy cursing her friends, cursing her own self for falling for a guy who is obviously — and will always remain — out of her reach.

John B?

He always gets the good ones.

And never ever has he chosen Georgie.

Stupid stupid Georgie, how could you be so dumb?

It's well past noon when Anna Carrera calls out to the blonde girl halting her sweeping motions and ushering her towards the back of the kitchen.

Georgie, sighing, follows her only to find herself surrounded with two small batches of freshly prepared takeout.

"Would you be okay with dropping these off at the Country Club, sweetie? Hank couldn't come in today, stupid bugger caught the flu again".

She wants to say no, no I cannot go to a place full of snort nossed Kooks but instead, she says yes.

Because she's Georgie.

And Georgie rarely ever says no.

Anna all but hugs her delighted at her fortune of being blessed with such an amazing employee and sends her off on her way.

Georgie, insisting to walk the short walk over to the Country Club, begins her walk with two plastic bags full of takeaway containers lightly banging against her legs as she walks.

She quietly trudges over the short hill leading past the golf course and eventually maneuvering in the direction of the Club entrance.

Huffing and puffing as she grows slightly out of breath, Georgie makes her way up to the path running parallel to the golf course, already regretting taking up this task.

When she's a few steps away, she spots Topper and Rafe, arguing by the side bushes lining the golf course.

Her breath gets caught in her throat when she allows herself to take in Rafe's appearance who is stood facing her while Topper's back is to her and the two are too busy arguing to notice her approaching.

Rafe is dressed in tricoloured board shorts with a grey button up perfectly hugging his toned upper body while a cap lies backwards on his head, a golf club in hand as he keeps waving his arms around in the intense argument brewing between the two boys.

Holy fuck, she should not be feeling this way but right now, Rafe Cameron looks so fucking hot that she's scared to walk past them lest he sees her messy and disheveled appearance.

But her legs seem to have a mind of their own as they keep guiding her right towards the two boys.

When she's in clear earshot of their conversation, she hears Rafe mutter "Fuck's sake" and she's almost sure that her knees are about to give out under her any minute now.

It's so weird because Georgie likes John B! In fact, she loves him!

So what are these unfamiliar feelings she's unfortunately been made prey to when it comes to Rafe fucking Cameron?

Another step and another step bring her closer to them and for the second time in the past two minutes, Georgie feels like she's about to melt away.

In pursuance of his still ongoing argument with Topper, Rafe lets out a sarcastic laugh shaking his head as he does so and looks away, eyes immediately locking with Georgie's.

He blinks looking at her while she looks back trying to come across as nonchalant as possible.

Topper, seemingly unfazed by Rafe's sudden silence, keeps blabbering but the Cameron boy pays little attention to him.

Instead, his eyes slowly run up and down Georgie's approaching frame sending shivers down her spine when the ice cold orbs return to hers.

He gives her a little nod when she gets closer and that is when Topper's rant finally gets disturbed making him turn around to face Georgie.

"Georgie, hey", Topper offers her a nervous smile.

"Hi", she smiles back uncertainly.

"Delivering something?", he gestures towards the plastic bags in her hand.

She nods, "Takeouts".

"Cool".

Her gaze moves back to Rafe's who only resorts to eyeing her quietly with hooded eyes, an indecipherable expression on his face.

Just when she walks two steps away from Rafe's spot, he calls out to her.

"Hey, be careful, alright?".

Surprised, Georgie turns back.

"What?".

His eyes dart around before finally resting on hers as he rubs the side of his jaw.

"Be careful".

She laughs — Rafe Cameron made her laugh for the second time in two days.

"Of what?".

"Just . . . .", he waves his hand around shrugging, "stuff slithering about. Y'know snakes and . . . . stuff".

To say that her eyes grow ten times their size would certainly be an understatement.

Georgie, in reality, starts questioning every decision she's ever made that's lead her to this situation.

"Snakes? There are snakes here? The Country Club has snakes?", her eyes practically bulge out of her skull.

Amused, Rafe looks on.

"Are you afraid of snakes?".

"Who isn't?", she seethes back uncomfortably shifting on her feet.

Rafe is still very very much amused.

"Want me to accompany you? I'll shoo them off with this", he tries to suppress his smile and waves the golf club around.

But Georgie does not find this funny.

At all.

So she only blinks attempting to understand what exactly is he trying to do.

Topper rolls his eyes.

"There are no snakes here, Georgie. He's just messing with ya".

She glances at Topper and then back at Rafe, a murderous look in her eyes which the latter finds awfully cute.

"Is it true?", she glares crossing her arms.

Rafe barks back a laugh.

"Yeah. But I'm right here if you want me to come along, y'know just in case", he fights back a grin.

Georgie huffs.

"It's not funny".

She turns and quickly walks away hoping to tune out the rest of their conversation but she still manages to hear Topper's disbelief.

"Bro, what was that?".
