EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED

CHAPTER THREE

YER A WEREWOLF, MEILANI

☾ ☽☾ ☽☾ ☽☾ ☽

Meilani groaned as she turned onto her right side, trying to get comfortable. For the past few minutes, her bed has felt extra lumpy and scratchy. No matter which way she turned or tossed, she couldn't get herself to be comfortable. It was weird because her bed always felt like she was sleeping on a cloud thanks to her fluffy mattress and comforter.

Opening her eyes, Meilani realized her bed wasn't comfortable because she wasn't even in her bed. Instead, she lay on the floor of the woods where she got bit the other day. The morning fog swirled around her as the sun slowly rose above the trees. Scrambling to her feet, Meilani looked around at her surroundings, trying to get a feel for where exactly she was in the woods.

Meilani stopped searching around her when her eyes landed on the wolf a few feet away from her. Eyes widening, she started off running towards the other direction where she knew the entrance to the woods was. She flinched as twigs and leaves scraped the bottoms of her bare feet. So many thoughts were running through her mind while Meilani ran towards the entrance to the woods that led to the street.

How did she get here?

Why the woods of all places?

Why didn't she remember leaving her bed and walking into the woods?

Any sane person would remember walking out of their bed, opening their front door and walking into the middle of the woods to sleep.

Getting onto the street, Meilani looked both ways before walking back towards her house as she hoped and prayed that both Scott and her mother were still sleeping. She wasn't sure she was going to be able to explain this one to either of them.

Oh yeah, one minute I was asleep in the bed and the next I woke up in the woods. You know the woods where I got bit by some wolf and ever since weird things, such as this, have been happening? I'm smelling and hearing things I shouldn't and my bite wound already healed even though it should still look like I walked out of the movie TEEN WOLF. I swear I'm not crazy.

Yeah cause that explanation would go over well with both of them. Meilani would be lucky if her mother didn't kill her for walking out of the house in the middle of the night. She didn't even want to know what Scott would do. Ever since their dad walked out on them and him being older by a half hour, Scott took over as the man of the house and with that, he became extra protective over his twin sister. Who else was going to protect her and be there for her if their father was absent?

Walking up the porch steps, Meilani braced herself as she slowly eased open the front door, making sure not to make much noise. It was hard to tell since she had recently gained enhanced hearing and it still sounded loud to her. She walked inside and closed the door quietly behind her. Turning around, she jumped when she saw Scott standing in the entryway with his arms crossed. "Jesus, Scott, what are you doing? You scared the shit out of me."

Scott raised an eyebrow at her. "Why are you walking in through the front door?" He asked, waiting for her explanation.

"Oh, you know, just getting some fresh air before I got ready for school. Appreciating nature and all that tree-hugger business," Meilani replied, smiling as innocently as she could. "Well, I better get ready for school. We can't be late for our before school Lacrosse practice."

Scott put his arm out to stop Meilani from walking towards the stairs. "Want to tell me the truth or should I force it out of you?"

"Scott, when have I ever lied to you?" Meilani asked, looking towards her twin. "I just needed some fresh air is all because my room was getting stuffy even with the window open. No big deal."

Scott stared at his twin for a long moment. He knew Meilani better than he knew himself. They were twins so he knew how she was feeling, what she was thinking and when she was lying. It was true before this moment she had never lied to him before and now that she's blatantly lying to his face, it stung. "Mei, are you sure you're okay? You know you can tell me anything."

"I'm fine. I promise. Now can I go get dressed before I have to go to school in my pajamas?"

When Scott didn't reply, Meilani trudged up the stairs to her room. She hated lying to Scott, but she didn't know how to explain to him what happened without him thinking she was crazy.

☾ ☽☾ ☽

Meilani stood at her locker, shoving things into it that she didn't need for her first class. She had a long practice and now she knew why Stiles always complained about being sore. Coach really liked the words "lap" and "sprint" a lot.

When Meilani closed her locker, it revealed Jackson standing there, a scowl playing across his features. "What do you want, Jackson?"

"I want to know what juice you're using to make coach love you enough to put you on the team," Jackson stated, crossing his arms.

"Aw is the wittle baby scared of being worse at a sport than a girl," Meilani teased, faking a pout at him.

Jackson rolled his eyes at Meilani's teasing. "I know you played the sport, but I also know you weren't this good. I've seen you play before, Meilani. So, tell me what it is you're using."

Meilani couldn't help but laugh at Jackson. Was he really that insecure about losing his spot as captain to her or being worse than her just because she's a girl? "You think I'm using drugs? I think you're on drugs for even thinking that I would use them."

"I'm going to find out what it is and when I do, I'll make sure coach knows about it," Jackson warned before turning on his heel and stalked off down the hall.

Meilani scoffed as she watched Jackson's retreating figure. She seriously didn't understand what Lydia saw in him. Yeah, he had his moments where he wasn't totally annoying and he did have that pretty boy look to him with his dirty blonde hair and blue eyes, but his annoying moments outweighed the non-annoying ones.

"Unbelievable," she mumbled to herself before making her way down the hall.

☾ ☽☾ ☽

After school was over, Meilani made her way out to the lacrosse field where they were going to have a scrimmage match to see who would make the team and who would be the benchwarmers for the season. She placed her bag down on the bench as she made sure she had everything on her person for the game.

"Good luck out there today," Allison said as she approached Meilani, a soft smile on her face. "I think it's really cool what you're doing."

Meilani looked up from her bag and smiled back at Allison. "Oh, thanks. My brother and boyfriend are still not too happy about it but I'm excited. Time to show some girl power, right?"

"Of course. I'll be rooting for you," Allison stated as Lydia strolled over.

"I guess I'll wish you luck too. Even though I still think you're crazy," Lydia admitted, tossing her hair over her shoulder.

Meilani just rolled her eyes at Lydia, not in the mood to argue with the strawberry blonde in front of her. "Thanks, Lydia. You guys should go sit down before Finstock has a heart attack."

Allison gave Meilani a small good luck tap on her shoulder pads before making her way to the stands with Lydia in tow.

Meilani went to go back to doing her mental checklist when she heard her name being shouted multiple times. Looking up, she saw her boyfriend spastically running towards her with Scott trailing behind him at a normal pace.

"Babe! Babe! I have news," Stiles exclaimed, stumbling in front of her but caught himself before he fell to the ground.

"Stiles, can it wait till later? Coach is about to start the match," Meilani said, gesturing towards Finstock who was walking towards the middle of the field.

"Can it wait? Babe, it's important! I overheard my dad on the phone this morning talking to the guys who were doing the biopsy on the body. They found animal hairs on the body!" His words were clearly falling on deaf ears as Finstock blew his whistle in the middle of Stiles' explanation, causing Meilani to rush onto the field with the other guys except Stiles and Scott.

Stiles sighed as he watched his girlfriend run onto the field. "It was a wolf," he said, even though the only person there to hear him was Scott who already knew what Stiles' theory was and he didn't even agree with him on that.

After Finstock gave his speech, he had the team break up into two separate teams before blowing the whistle to begin the scrimmage. The team scrambled around the field, trying to make a good impression on Finstock who was hard to please. Some of the guys were from last year's team so they knew what to do in order to get Finstock to like them enough to put them on the team instead of the bench. For all the new kids, they were trying to follow the veterans so they could have a chance at making it as one of the active players.

Meilani had the ball a lot during the scrimmage, which made her a target for Jackson to follow. He knocked her down quite a few times, half of them causing Stiles to jump up to attack him but Scott pulled him back down onto the bench so he wouldn't go to jail for murder. Meilani gave Stiles a reassuring smile so he knew not to worry about her. She could easily take care of herself. If she was going to prove to these guys she could take them and handle the dirtiness of the game, she had to fight her own battles; not her boyfriend.

Throughout the last few minutes of the scrimmage, Meilani was swerving and jumping around the players like they were nothing. She still didn't know what it was that was making her so in tune with the world around her, but she wasn't going to complain one bit. If it helped her get on the team, Meilani would abuse the power as much as she could.

Finstock finally blew into his whistle, calling Meilani over to him. "What was that out there, McCall?"

"Uh... I don't know, sir? Lacrosse?" Meilani sarcastically asked, not knowing where Finstock was going with this.

"Well, guess what kid? You made starting line. Congratulations!" Finstock said, slapping her on the shoulder in a proud father sort of way.

☾ ☽☾ ☽

"You actually talked to Allison?" Meilani asked Scott as she fixed her hair in the mirror. She was going to meet Stiles at his house before they went to Lydia's party. Everyone from the school was invited and since the trio didn't have much else to do that night - and much to Scott begging the couple to go with Allison being there - they all decided to go for a little bit.

Scott sheepishly grinned and rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah she came into the clinic the other night with a hurt dog. Ever since we kind of talked in passing and she asked me if I wanted to hang out at the party later."

Meilani turned to face her twin and let out a little giggle. "She asked you out? Not the other way around? I'm proud you even got the word "yes" out."

Scott chucked a pillow at Meilani who ducked out of the way at the last second. "Asshole."

A text notification from Meilani's phone caused the twins to look over at the phone on the bed. Grabbing the phone, Meilani saw it was from Stiles

FROM: STILES

Where are you? IT'S IMPORTANT!!!

Shaking her head, Meilani tucked her phone into her back pocket. "It's Stiles. I should get to his house before he dies of anxiety. I'll see you at the party?"

"Don't do anything I wouldn't do when you're there," Scott teased before walking out of Meilani's room.

The walk to Stiles' house thankfully wasn't that long or bad. It gave Meilani time to relax and enjoy the outside world around her, which she didn't get to do often. It was always relaxing for her to take a walk because it gave her time to think and just be alone for a bit to have time to herself. With her suddenly new heightened senses, everything seemed so much more beautiful and vibrant to her even though she still wasn't used to the sensitive hearing yet.

Walking up to Stiles' front door, she walked in as she usually did when she went to his house and greeted Mr. Stilinski before walking up to Stiles' room. She walked in to see Stiles surrounded by printed out material and books. "What in the hell are you doing?"

Stiles gestured for Meilani to sit in front of him on the bed while he sat in the computer chair. She complied and sat down on the edge of the bed, raising an eyebrow at her boyfriend who looked like he was about to explode with information. "I've been up all night reading books, newspapers, articles..."

"How much Adderall did you take today?" Meilani asked, cutting Stiles' rambling off.

"A lot but that doesn't matter, okay? Just listen!"

"Is this about the body again?" Meilani groaned, wishing they could just forget about the whole thing.

"No, they're still questioning people. Even Derek Hale," Stiles explained, fumbling around with his papers.

Meilani remembered him as the dark, brooding guy from the woods that handed Scott back his inhaler. She nodded her head to show she understood what he was saying. She knew if she kept interrupting, he would explode.

"Remember the joke from the other day?" Stiles questioned, laughing a little nervously. "It's not a joke anymore."

Meilani stared at Stiles completely confused, not knowing what to say. He looked really worried and nervous about what he was telling her. She couldn't exactly tell why though. What could he possibly be going on about? "Not a joke anymore? Did the drugs finally get to your head, Stilinski?"

"The wolf. The bite in the woods. I started doing all this reading... Do you even know why a wolf howls?" Stiles asked, suddenly standing and pacing the floor.

Meilani could have sworn with how quick he was pacing, Stiles would leave skid marks in the floor. "Full moon?" she questioned, not knowing where Stiles was going with this.

"It's a signal. When a wolf's alone it howls to alert its pack members of his location. So, if you heard a wolf howling that night, that means others could have been nearby. Maybe even a whole pack of them."

"A whole pack of wolves?" Meilani asked, eyes widening.

If Stiles was right about a wolf's howl, that means others could have been nearby and she couldn't have been the only one hurt that night. Stiles or Scott could have gotten attacked as well, or she could have gotten attacked by more than one wolf and not survived.

"No... werewolves," Stiles corrected.

Meilani stared at Stiles for a long moment. Maybe the Adderall really was getting to his head. Werewolves don't exist. They're fictional creatures made up in Hollywood and books to get a scare out of people. The fact that Stiles actually believes what he was saying was baffling Meilani because she thought he was smarter than this.

Sure a lot of strange things had been happening to Meilani since the night in the woods, but her being a werewolf? That seemed like the least likely thing ever. Pigs would fly before the thought of real life werewolves running about were true.

"You seriously can't believe any of this can you?"

"Babe, I saw you out on that field today. What you did out there wasn't just amazing, it was impossible," Stiles said, hoping Meilani wouldn't get offended by him saying her performance wasn't real.

"So, I made a few good plays, Stiles, that doesn't mean anything!" Meilani retaliated, standing up from her seat on the bed.

Stiles stopped his pacing, so he could stand in front of his girlfriend. "No, you made incredible plays and shots. I mean with your reflexes and agility? People can't just do that overnight!" He explained, trying to get Meilani to see that he wasn't going insane. There really was something wrong with her and he knew what it was, no matter how crazy it sounded. "Then there's your vision and enhanced senses. How does that seem normal to you?!"

"What do you want me to say, Stiles? This all sounds insane! You're trying to tell me that I am some supernatural creature that shape shifts every full moon. How does THAT seem normal to you?" Meilani snapped, getting annoyed that Stiles wasn't letting this go no matter how much she told him it wasn't true. How could it be? Stuff like that doesn't happen. "Can we just talk about something else?"

Stiles' eyes practically bugged out of his head. "Lani, are you kidding me?! The full moon is tonight. Don't you get it?!" He yelled, becoming more and more frustrated by the second.

"What I don't get is why you won't let this whole thing go? Doesn't any of this sound nuts to you? What sane person would believe any of this? I made the team because I was good and Finstock liked what he saw. Why are you trying to make it seem like I couldn't do that without being a werewolf or something? I know you didn't want me to be on the team, but is this your way of trying to get back at me for not listening to you and Scott?"

"I'm just trying to help, Lani. You're cursed okay? You know, it's not just the full moon that will make you physically change. It also happens when your blood lust is at its peak," Stiles explained.

"Blood lust?" Meilani questioned, not following what Stiles was going on about.

"Yeah your urge to kill," Stiles responded.

"I'm already feeling an urge to kill someone and I'm looking at him," Meilani warned, hoping it would get Stiles to knock it off before he really did piss her off.

Stiles turned in his chair and grabbed the book that was sitting on his desk before he spun back around to face Meilani. "You gotta hear this okay? The change can be caused by anger or anything that raises your pulse. Alright? I haven't seen anyone raise your pulse like me or Scott. It won't be safe to go to the party tonight. You gotta call Scott and tell him you got sick or something."

Meilani watched Stiles walk over to her crossbody bag she brought with her. "Stiles, what are you doing?" she asked as Stiles took out her phone from the front pocket.

"I'm calling Scott and telling him that we're not going to the party tonight," Stiles answered, looking for Scott's number in Meilani's contact list.

"Stiles, no!" Meilani yelled, pushing Stiles against the wall causing him to drop the phone onto the carpet in the process. She was breathing heavy as she held up her fist as if she was going to punch Stiles.

Stiles squeezed his eyes shut and cowered back against the wall, waiting for the impact to his face.

Meilani seemed to realize who she was about to hit because when Stiles peeked his eye open, he noticed her features softened slightly from the anger ridden one. Turning, Meilani hit the computer chair behind her, getting out the last bit of anger that was still in her system.

Once Meilani was sure all the aggression was out, she turned back to Stiles with an apologetic expression. He was looking at her with more worry and concern than when she got here. Meilani was beginning to wonder if maybe Stiles was right about the whole thing. There was still some doubt there but what just happened was sending her thoughts into hyper speed.

"I'm sorry," Meilani whispered, looking down at her feet. She couldn't look at Stiles anymore without seeing her almost punching him square in the face. "I'm going to go for a walk and then I'll be back."

Without looking back at Stiles, Meilani walked out of the room and closed the door behind her.

Stiles bent down to pick the chair his girlfriend knocked over. When the chair was upright, Stiles spun it around, so he could roll it back under his desk but stopped short when he noticed something on the back of his chair.

Three claw marks.

☾ ☽☾ ☽

A few hours later, Stiles and Meilani arrived at the party. They were finally okay with each other again and the awkwardness from what happened that afternoon had eased. Though Stiles continued to send Meilani worried glances throughout the rest of the time they were at his house and the drive to Lydia's. The marks in his computer chair only causing his worry to multiply the more he thought about it.

Stiles held Meilani's hand as they walked through Lydia's house and through the double doors that lead to the backyard. People were either dancing on both sides of the pool, swimming in the pool or standing around with red solo cups filled with alcohol. Then there was Jackson and Lydia making out against one of the pillars away from the party. Figures.

Meilani took a minute to look around at the guests to see if she could find her brother and Allison. Her eyes landed on a figure standing in the shadows at the back of the party. Her eyes widened when she realized it was Derek Hale. How did he get into this party? He didn't even know Lydia.

Stiles looked towards his girlfriend and squeezed her hand. "Lani, what's wrong?"

"Huh?" Meilani asked, tearing her eyes away from Derek. "Oh nothing. I'm fine. Just wondering where Scott and Allison are."

Stiles stood on his tiptoes and scanned the crowd until his eyes landed on Scott and Allison who were currently in the crowd of dancing people on the left side of the pool. "I found them. Come on," he said, pulling Meilani after him.

Scott smiled when he saw his twin and Stiles walk up to him. "Hey, guys. I was wondering when you guys would get here," he greeted, his hand in Allison's.

Meilani smiled at the sight of Scott and Allison. She was happy to see that he found someone after not having the greatest luck with girls in the past. She was actually glad it was Allison because she seemed to be a cool person and Meilani could see herself becoming close with the girl as time went on. "Well, you can stop wondering because we're here now."

Making small talk to get to know Allison better, the four teens decided to stay in the middle and dance along with everyone else. In the middle of one of the songs, Meilani started to feel all weird and tingly but she decided to ignore it, thinking it was just from all the dancing and being squished between people for so long.

However, as time went on and the feeling grew more and more intense, Meilani groaned and grabbed at her head. This caused her brother, Allison and Stiles to glance over in her direction.

"Lani, what's wrong?" Scott placed a hand on Meilani's elbow, trying to get her to look at him.

Pushing Scott's hand away, Meilani looked up at her brother, trying to ignore the increasing uneasy feeling. "Scott, where's the car keys?"

Scott slowly pulled out his car keys from his jacket pocket, unsure of why she would want them and why Meilani was suddenly acting so odd. She was fine a few minutes ago.

Meilani quickly grabbed them before forcing her way through the crowd of people. People kept asking her if she was okay, but she couldn't answer them. She was lucky she could even walk without collapsing to the ground in agony.

Finally getting outside, Meilani spotted her mom's car parked right outside Lydia's house. Stumbling over to the car, she hopped in and sped off down the street, trying to get home as quickly as possible. She felt like she was dying and if she was going to die, Meilani really didn't want it to be in her mother's minivan.

Pulling into the driveway, Meilani scrambled out of the car and rushed into the house. She made her way up the stairs and into the bedroom where she closed the door and leaned against it, sweat starting to form on her forehead. Looking up, she saw the full moon high above in the sky. Groaning, she made her way into the bathroom where she turned the cold water on in the shower.

Not even bothering to strip out of her clothes, Meilani climbed into the shower and sat down in the tub, her head between her knees and her arms wrapped around them. Taking slow, deep breaths, Meilani was focusing on trying not to freak out. Freaking out wouldn't help her at all, especially since she was alone in the house. Hopefully if she stayed in the cold shower long enough, whatever was happening would pass and she could meet the boys and Allison back at the party in a little bit.

Lifting her head up, she gasped as she pulled her hands away from her knees to see that long claws were taking place of her fingernails. Quickly getting out of the shower, Meilani wiped the steam on the mirror away and she flinched at her reflection. Her eyes had gone from their usual brown to bright yellow and sharp canines were forming in the place of her teeth.

A knock on her bedroom door startled her and she turned towards it, wondering who could be there.

"Lani? Babe? You're in there?" Stiles called from the other side as he continued to bang on the other side.

Rushing over to the door, she stopped Stiles from opening it all the way. No way she wanted him to see her like this. He was right about this whole thing and she wasn't ready to admit it yet. Especially since it hasn't exactly fully settled in yet that it was even happening in the first place. "Stiles, go away!"

"NO! Let me in! Let me help!" Stiles said, trying to push the door open again.

"Scott and Allison," Meilani groaned, the pain becoming more and more unbearable.

"They were getting a ride home. Please let me in," Stiles begged, still not giving up on his mission to get the door open.

"I know who the werewolf is, Stiles. It's Derek Hale. He's the one that bit me and the one who killed that girl."

Stiles' heart dropped to the floor. "Babe, Derek's the one who is taking Scott and Allison home. He picked them up from the party."

"Get to Allison, Stiles!" Meilani yelled through the door before locking her bedroom door and running over to her window. She jumped out of it and landed in a squatted position, fully transformed into a werewolf.

Running off towards the woods where they first saw Derek, Meilani prayed she would get to her brother before it was too late. Seeing Derek's car at the entrance, Meilani jumped onto the roof before crawling over to the windshield to see the car vacant. Cursing to herself, she jumped off the car and began her journey into the woods, jumping over twigs and fallen down branches.

Meilani stopped in the middle of the trees to look around and see if she could determine which direction Derek had gone in. Looking up, she noticed the jacket Scott was wearing hanging on a high branch. Feeling her anger boil over, Meilani let out an animalistic growl before dashing in that direction. After running a short distance, she stopped running and took a look around her surroundings again.

"Where is he?" She growled to herself, wanting to get to her brother and making sure he was safe.

Derek came strolling towards Meilani, hands in his leather jacket pockets. "He's safe. From you," he answered, grabbing onto Meilani and shoving her against a tree.

"What did you do to my twin?!" Meilani yelled at Derek, trying to fight him off her.

"Quiet," Derek whispered, looking around Meilani and his surroundings. A tree branch snapped in the distance and they both snapped their heads in that direction. "Too late. They're already here. Run!"

Without another word to her, Derek was already off running in the opposite direction. After a moment of hesitation, Meilani took off after him. She tried to keep up with him as best she could, considering he had longer legs than she did and was able to run a better distance in a shorter amount of time. As she ran, she had to avoid arrows being shot at her and as Meilani rounded a corner, one struck her in the arm. She yelped in pain as three male hunters walked over to her, triumphant smirks on their faces.

Meilani glared at the three hunters as they stopped in a triangle a few feet from her. The one in the front turned his head a little to the left and said, "Take her down."

Before the hunter could even raise his bow to shoot her, he was flung into the air and thrown halfway across the woods. The hunter on the other side was also flung, but this time into a tree where he was knocked unconscious. The main hunter raised his gun to shoot whoever was attacking his men.

Derek rushed over and pulled Meilani free from the arrow before running off, dragging her behind him. The two continued to run until Meilani collapsed in front of Derek, trying to catch her breath as she had gone back to her human form. Leaning against the tree in front of her, she looked up at Derek.

"Who were they?"

"Hunters. The kind that have been hunting us for centuries," Derek replied, searching around them as if to make sure they were actually clear from the hunters.

Meilani scoffed and scrambled to her feet. "Us? You mean you! You did this to me!"

"Is it really that bad, Meilani? That you can see better, hear more clearly, move faster than any human could ever hope?" Derek sarcastically remarked. "You've been given something that most people would kill for."

Meilani just stared up at Derek. She didn't know anyone who would want to be in her position right now. Give up normalcy just to be some sort of monster? No thanks. Meilani didn't know why anyone would want what she was going through.

"The bite is a gift," Derek finished.

"I don't want this gift. I never asked for it!"

"You will and you're going to need me if you want to learn how to control it. So, you and me, Meilani," Derek began, placing his hand above her on the tree and leaning in close to her, "We're family now."

☾ ☽☾ ☽

As the sun began to rise the next morning, Meilani was still a good distance from her house. She didn't realize how deep into the woods her and Derek had gone until she walked out onto the road and saw only trees on either side of the road. Hearing a car slowing behind her, she turned around to see Stiles in his blue Jeep. Something she didn't know she needed to see until just then.

After climbing in and Stiles offering Meilani his jacket, Stiles drove off down the road towards the McCall house. "Babe, say something."

"Scott probably hates me," Meilani said after a moment of silence. "I just ran off and as of right now, he has no idea where I am."

"Just apologize to him and explain to him what's going on. He's your twin and deserves to know what's been happening. Scott is going to want to be there for you and help you through this, just like me," Scott advised. "In the meantime, you should revel in the fact that you're a freaking werewolf!"

Meilani gave Stiles a pointed looking which basically told him to shut up.

"Okay bad idea," Stiles admitted, holding a hand up in defense. Glancing over at Meilani, he smiled softly at her and took her hand in his, intertwining their fingers together. "We'll get through this together, babe. We always do. If I have to, I'll chain you up and feed you live mice on full moon nights until you can control it. I'll always be here to make sure you're okay."

Meilani smiled at him and squeezed his hand, happy that she had him to support her through this. "I love you," she blurted out before she could stop herself.

Stiles couldn't help the goofy grin that spread across his face. It was the first time Meilani had said she loved him in more than just the friend way. Sure they had been together for a year and some now, but it took a lot for Meilani to soften up to people ever since her dad left. It worried her if she told someone she loved them, they'd disappear just like he had. "I love you too, Lani."

When Stiles dropped Meilani off home, Scott and Allison were hanging out on the porch. Stiles stopped his Jeep in front of the driveway and looked at Meilani. "You want me to come with you?"

"No, I think I can handle it. I'll see you later?" Meilani asked, shrugging off Stiles' jacket and handing it to him.

Stiles tossed the jacket into the backseat before turning back to Meilani. "I love you."

Meilani giggled and couldn't help the blush that came onto her cheeks. She wasn't used to saying it to him or hearing him say it to her. "I love you too," she said, leaning in and kissing Stiles. "Bye."

Hopping out of the Jeep, Meilani closed the door and watched as Stiles drove off. Turning on her heels, she faced the porch where Scott looked obviously upset and Allison looked concerned for her.

Slowly making her way over to the porch, Meilani sheepishly smiled at the two. "Hey, guys. What's Allison doing here?"

"I came by to see if you were okay. Stiles came over after Derek dropped me off to see if I made it home okay and he seemed really worried. I guess he was just worried about you so I wanted to come myself and see how you were doing," Allison explained, wrapping Meilani in a hug.

"Yeah are you going to tell me what happened?" Scott asked, crossing his arms across his chest. He wasn't happy that his sister was missing all night and he didn't know what was going on with her.

Meilani gave Scott a look that said I'll tell you later, even though she already knew she was going to make up some lie. No way she was going to drag him into this. "Uh, yeah. Just got a little sick last night from something I ate I guess."

"As long as you're okay!" Allison chirped, turning when she saw a truck pull up in front of the McCall house. "Oh, that's my dad. He dropped me off and gave me twenty minutes before he would be back to pick me up. I'll see you both at school on Monday?"

As Allison walked down the path to the car, Allison's dad got out of the car and opened the door for her. Turning to the twins, he waved and gave a subtle smirk in Meilani's direction, causing her body to freeze up next to Scott.

Allison's dad was the hunter from woods.
