EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED
CHAPTER TWO
THE DAY AFTER

Meilani stood at her locker with Scott leaning against the one next to it. "I still can't believe you were able to hide what happened last night from mom."
"It's not like she has x-ray vision to see through my clothes, Scott. She was also half asleep when she got in this morning so everything kind of went over her head to begin with. I even played off the soreness in my side by telling her I trained extra hard for lacrosse tryouts. I'm perfect at lying unless you forgot."
"I still want to kill Stiles, Mei," Scott stated, crossing his arms.
Meilani shut her locker and turned to face her twin. "Scott, it's not his fault I got bit. He didn't tell the wolf to bite me."
"If he never told you to come, then you wouldn't have gotten bit. Like what if the animal had rabies or something? You could be dead."
"Oh, stop being so dramatic, Scotty," Meilani scolded, leaning against her locker as she waited for Stiles to come like he did every morning. "I didn't die so he doesn't deserve to die. It'll heal."
Before Scott could add in his opinion, Stiles barreled down the hallway towards the sibling, his backpack swinging on his back as it almost hit multiple people. Many of them yelling at the spaztic boy to watch where he was swinging that thing.
Once he was in front of Meilani, Stiles threw his arms around her waist and hugged her close to him. "Baby, I am so sorry. I was going to wait for you guys, but my dad literally made sure I drove home. I got a whole rant this morning from Scott because something bit you?"
Meilani lifted her shirt a little to show Stiles the bandage that was covering most of her right side. "Yeah a wolf came out of nowhere and bit me."
"A wolf bit you?"
"Yeah when I fell down the hill, it was hanging out in the clearing and then attacked me," Meilani responded, letting her shirt fall back down.
"Not a chance that it was a wolf," Stiles said, shaking his head with a laugh.
Meilani gave Stiles a look. "You're joking right? I think I know what I saw, Stiles."
"Babe, California doesn't have wolves. Not for like sixty years," Stiles explained, shifting his bag properly back onto his shoulders.
"Well, Mei getting bit by whatever it is that bit her isn't the only thing that happened when we had to trek home," Scott finally spoke up, knowing fully well that Meilani was going to chew Stiles' head off for telling her she was wrong. That was something you didn't tell Meilani, especially when she was one hundred percent sure of what she was talking about.
"What else happened?" Stiles questioned, looking over at Scott.
"Lani found the body, which is mainly why she fell down the hill. It freaked her out," Scott answered, smiling in amusement once Stiles' whole demeanor changed to one of excitement.
"Oh man, you're kidding me!" Stiles exclaimed and Scott shook his head in response.
"I'm going to have nightmares for a month about it," Meilani said, shuddering at the thought of the half body she had found when helping Scott find his inhaler.
Stiles had to refrain from doing a dance because there were a bunch of kids in the hall, which would make it hard to do anything. Meilani wondered how much Adderall he had taken that day because he was getting a little more excited than usual. "Oh man this is freakin' awesome! I mean this is going to be the best thing to ever happen to this town."
"Yeah something good finally happens in this town and I get bit because of it," Meilani grumbled, causing Stiles to roll his eyes and wrap his arm around her shoulders.
"Don't worry, babe, I'll make sure nothing bad happens to you after this," Stiles assured her before starting to walk her and Scott to their first class of the day.

Meilani sat in her usual desk in front of Stiles and Scott to her right. The trio always made sure to make their schedules the same - as much as they possibly could, that is - so they could suffer together. At least that's how Stiles put it when he suggested they do that their freshman year at Beacon Hills High. Then, they sat together in class to get all the group assignments together.
The bell rang as their teacher, Mr. Miller, walked in and placed his briefcase on the desk. He turned to put his info for their lesson that day on the board as he said, "I'm sure you're all aware that a body was found in the woods last night. I'm sure your eager little minds are coming up with various scenarios as to what happened. However, I am here to tell you that the police currently have a suspect in custody for the murder."
Meilani and Scott both turned to Stiles, giving him a what the fuck look. Stiles merely shrugged, not knowing anything about it.
"This means you can give your undivided attention to the worksheet I have placed on your desk. Look it over while I finish writing out all the information you need on the board," Mr. Miller told the class, not bothering to turn to them so he could finish whatever he was writing out.
Stiles and Scott both turned their attention to the syllabus in front of them while Meilani cringed at the sound of a cell phone going off. Looking around the room, she noticed no one was going to grab for their phones and turn it off. Mr. Miller wasn't even scolding the person for having their phone on and giving them detention for even having the phone on to begin with.
When Meilani went to turn her attention to the syllabus, she heard a voice answer the ringing phone, as if it was in the room rather than outside the classroom window.
"Mom, three calls on my first day is a little overdoing it," Meilani heard the girl say. She sat on the bench that was by the street, digging through her bag looking for something. "Oh my God, I actually forgot a pen." The girl continued to dig through her bag and when she glanced up, she stopped and closed her bag. "Okay, mom, I gotta go. I'll talk to you later. Love you bye."
Their vice principal stopped in front of her and smiled warmly at her. "I am so sorry to keep you waiting," he apologized as the girl stood up. The two proceeded to walk back into the school building. "So, you were saying San Francisco isn't the place you grew up?"
"No but we lived there for more than a year, which is unusual for my family. My parents are like nomads when it comes to moving," the girl replied.
"I hope Beacon Hills is your last stop for a while. Too much moving is hard," The vice principal replied, their voices getting closer to the door which only made their voices louder to Meilani's ears.
After a few short moments, the vice principal opened the door revealing him and the girl that Meilani overheard on the phone. He let the girl in before stepping inside to the class, all the students looking up as they heard his voice. "Class, this is our new student, Allison Argent. Please do your best to make her feel welcome."
Meilani turned to look at Stiles and Scott. Scott was basically drooling at the sight of Allison while Stiles shared a look with Meilani. Since when did people move to Beacon Hills? Usually you moved out.
"I can take it from here, Vice Principal," Mr. Miller stated as the vice principal nodded and walked out of the room. "Miss Argent, you may take the empty seat next to Ms. McCall."
Allison glanced at Meilani who was meekly raising her hand. She walked over and sat down next to Meilani, who grabbed a pen from her desk and held it out to the dark haired.
Allison gave Meilani an odd look, but it turned to a grateful smile as she took the pen and got her books out for the class.
βΎ β½βΎ β½
As the final bell of the day rang, Meilani walked over to her locker with Stiles and Scott. She let go of Stiles' hand and proceeded to open her locker and threw all her books inside since she thankfully had no homework that night. Hearing a locker open a little down the hall, Meilani turned to see Allison only a few lockers down from her.
Feeling a pair of eyes on her, Allison looked in the trio's direction and sent a smile their way before going back to making sure she had everything she needed.
Meilani shut her locker and turned to the boys, Scott's attention fully on Allison. "I think someone is love sick," she teased, giggling softly at her brother's love struck expression.
"Huh? What?" Scott asked, snapping out of it and looking at Meilani.
"You like Allison," Stiles pointed out, looking between Scott and Allison who had finally shut her locker.
"How could I like someone I never spoke to?" Scott questioned.
Meilani turned her head to look at Allison and then averted her gaze back to her brother. "I'm going to get her to come to try outs. Stiles and I can help make you look good. I'll meet you guys there." She quickly kissed Stiles on the lips before bounding over to Allison just as Lydia Martin, the school's it strawberry blonde, walked over.
Allison spared a confused glance to both girls, wondering what they could possibly want to talk to her about considering she was new.
Before Meilani could get a word in, Lydia asked, "That jacket is absolutely killer. Where'd you get it?"
Allison looked down to the brown jacket covering her torso before looking back to Lydia. "My mom was a buyer for a boutique back in San Francisco."
"And you are my new best friend," Lydia smiled and pointed at the dark haired girl in front of her.
"Aw I've been replaced, Lyd?" Meilani teased, faking a pout.
Lydia flipped her hair behind her shoulder and studied her nails. "Oh, hello, Lani. I almost didn't even see you standing there."
Lydia's boyfriend, Jackson Whittemore, walked up next to her and wrapped an arm around her waist. "Hey, ladies," he greeted, kissing Lydia on the cheek. Meilani had to try really hard not to vomit where she stood. Jackson was pretty much the bane of her existence and all she wanted to do was take her lacrosse stick and hit him over the head with it.
"So, this Friday there's a party and you're invited. You should really come," Lydia offered to Allison who looked a little wary about it.
"I can't. I have family night this Friday," Allison politely declined.
"Are you sure? Everyone's coming after the scrimmage match," Jackson added.
"You mean like football?"
"Football is dead to Beacon. We play lacrosse," Meilani corrected Allison, motioning to one of the guys on the team who was currently making his way to the field for tryouts.
Lydia grinned as she patted Jackson's chest. "We won the past three years thanks to a certain team captain."
"Well, we have tryouts in a few minutes if you would like to come," Meilani suggested.
"Perfect you're coming!" Lydia answered for Allison before dragging her off down the hall towards the field.
Meilani sent Stiles and Scott a wink before waltzing off to the girls' locker room.
βΎ β½βΎ β½
"I still don't think this is a good idea, babe," Stiles said, chewing on his lip. He knew Meilani could play lacrosse just as good as the next person, but it still didn't make him comfortable that she was trying out for the team. Plus, Coach Finstock was a real asshole and he didn't want him treating his girlfriend any different just because she's a girl.
Meilani stopped walking and turned to face Scott and Stiles who were giving her worrisome expressions. "Do you guys really have no faith in me? What's the worst Finstock can do? Tell me no?"
Scott fiddled with his lacrosse stick. "Stiles and I just don't want you getting hurt, Mei. Guys might not go easy on you even if you are a girl."
"Why would I want them to go easy on me? Girls are just as tough as guys you know," Meilani defended, crossing her arms. "If a guy goes easy on me, I only think they're too chicken to face me like a man."
Stiles couldn't help the smile that broke out on his face. "I love when my woman talks dirty to me."
Scoffing, Meilani turned on her heels and continued onto the field after dropping her bag by the bench where Scott and Stiles sat down. Before she could get both of her feet on the field, Finstock had shoved a goalie stick into her hand. "New kid, you're goalie. Now hurry up so my boys can warm up."
Meilani only nodded her head so Finstock wouldn't know she was in fact a girl and she walked over to the goal. There was a line of ten guys, minus her brother and boyfriend who still had yet to join the line up, that stood in at the halfway mark for the field. They were all stretching or making sure their lacrosse stick was up to par. Once they noticed she was in the net, they all stood up straight and got ready to throw the ball at her.
Taking a deep breath, Meilani prepared herself as the first guy in line threw his ball at the net. To Meilani, the ball soared through the air as if they slowed the time down. What felt like a minute, actually happened in five seconds as the ball hit Meilani's lacrosse stick netting right in the middle.
Stiles jumped up and cheered as he watched his girlfriend catch ball after ball. He knew she was good, but he never realized how good she actually was until now.
Finally, it was Scott's turn to throw the ball towards his sister. Meilani and Stiles both shared a look before she purposely missed Scott's ball, making it look like he had actually thrown a great ball. Meilani stole a glance at where Allison and Lydia were sitting, who were both currently standing and cheering for Scott. Yep, she was totally getting the Sister of the Year award.
Smirking to herself in triumph, Meilani tossed the stick to the ground as Finstock walked over to her. "New kid, who are you? You have to join the team and be first line."
Meilani removed the helmet from her head and shook her hair out. "I would love to, Finstock."
Finstock's eyes widened in shock, clearly having no idea it was Meilani until she removed the helmet. He probably just thought she was a skinny and small boy. "McCall, who knew your twin was both better looking than you and better at sports than you!" He called with a laugh.
"Welcome to the team, McCall."
βΎ β½βΎ β½
Meilani jumped across the stream in the woods, Scott and Stiles following close behind her as they made their way back over to where Scott dropped his inhaler. He had never been able to look for it the night prior since Meilani fell down the hill and got bit. Meilani was a lot more important to him than his inhaler. He could get a new inhaler, but never a new twin. "I told you guys I could get on the team no problem."
"You were a lot better than I remember, Lani," Stiles noted from behind her.
Meilani shrugged her shoulders as she carried on forward, dodging low branches and fallen over logs. "My adrenaline had to be up or something. It was like everything was in slow motion the whole time I was in the goal."
"I don't think adrenaline can do that to a person," Scott said, following after Stiles and Meilani.
"That's not the only weird thing. I'm hearing things I shouldn't be able to hear and getting all of these smells I never picked up before," Meilani continued as she stopped where Scott had dropped his inhaler and turned to face Stiles and Scott.
"Smell things? Like what?" Stiles questioned, crossing his arms across his chest.
Meilani paused to sniff the air and turned her attention to Stiles' pocket. "Like mint mojito gum in your pocket."
Stiles raised an eyebrow as he reached into his pocket and started feeling around. "I don't even have any..." Stiles trailed off as he pulled out a little packet of Mint Mojito gum.
"See told you something weird is going on. I'm not going crazy," Meilani defended, watching as Stiles put the gum back in his pocket. "Or am I? What if this is like some infection from the bite and I'll go insanely mad and you guys will have to put me in some mental institution. After a while, I won't even remember who you are and I'll start thinking that Satan is real or something!"
Scott shook his twin's shoulders until she finally calmed down. "That isn't going to happen. You need to relax."
"You know I actually think I've heard of this before. It's a specific kind of infection," Stiles spoke up suddenly, looking deep in thought as if he was trying to recall the name of the infection.
The McCall twins both looked at Stiles with curious expressions. "Are you serious?" They asked in unison.
Stiles nodded and placed both hands on his hips. "Yeah. I think it's called lycanthropy."
"What? Is that bad?" Scott asked, worry and concern quickly taking over his features.
"Oh yeah. It's the worst. Only once a month though," Stiles replied, a serious look still playing across his face.
Meilani simply rolled her eyes at her boyfriend's antics already knowing what he was talking about. Part of her wanted to punch him for mocking her when she honestly thought something was happening to her because of the bite.
"Huh?" Scott, the least smart one of the trio, looked completely confused.
Stiles bit back the smile that was trying to force its way out and proceeded to howl like a wolf.
This resulted in Scott scoffing and shoving Stiles' shoulder. "You're such an idiot."
"Hey, Lani is the one who heard a wolf howling. It's the only logical explanation."
Scott shot a glare at Stiles. "Come on there could be something seriously wrong here!"
"I know! Lani's a big, scary werewolf!" Stiles exclaimed and made claws with his hands as he swatted the air. Receiving unamused looks from both Scott and Meilani, Stiles chuckled and held his hands up in surrender. "Obviously I'm kidding. However, if you see me in shop class burning any silver I can find, just know it's because Friday is a full moon."
Meilani crossed her arms across her chest. "Glad to know you'll kill me without a second thought, Stiles."
Stiles rolled his eyes and kissed Meilani's cheek. "Just a precaution. I wouldn't even shoot you in any vital area, maybe like the leg or something," he teased.
"Stiles!" Meilani scolded and playfully swatted his chest.
Suddenly remembering why the trio were back in the woods, Scott looked around them and groaned. "No, this is where I dropped my inhaler. We saw the body; the deer came running and I dropped my inhaler when I protected Meilani and I. How could it not be here?" He asked no one in particular as he squatted and began to look around in the leaves.
"Maybe the killer moved the body," Stiles suggested, looking around the area.
"If he did, I hope he left my inhaler. Those things are like eighty bucks."
Meilani sighed and when she went to look behind her, she noticed a guy with dark hair, striking blue eyes and a leather jacket staring at them. Jumping slightly, she hit both of the boys on the shoulder, causing the three to look in the direction of the man.
"What are you doing here?" Tall, dark and handsome asked, looking between the three with a none-too-pleased expression.
"Why does it matter to you?" Meilani asked, raising an eyebrow at the unknown fourth person. Why does this random guy care about what they were doing in the woods?
"This is private property," The guy snapped, a scowl taking over his expression.
Stiles, forever the pacifist of the group, decided to speak up. He knew fully well that Scott wouldn't say anything and Meilani would just fight the guy without blinking an eye. "Oh, sorry man. We didn't know. We were just looking for something, but we'll be on our way."
Before the trio could make their departure, the mystery man tossed Scott his inhaler before walking in the opposite direction.
Scott looked down at the inhaler that was tossed to him before confusedly looking at Stiles and Meilani.
"What just happened?" Meilani asked, hoping one of the boys could explain that odd encounter.
"I don't know but I have to get to work, come on," Scott responded, going to walk away but Stiles stopped them both from going anywhere.
"Guys, that was Derek Hale. You remember him, right? He's only a few years older than we are," Stiles explained.
"Remember what?"
"His family, Lani. They all burned to death in a fire like ten years ago. He apparently ran away a little bit after it happened," Stiles answered, looking back the way Derek had left.
Meilani bit her lip as she processed Stiles' words. "Why is he back then?"
βΎ β½βΎ β½
Later that night, while Scott was at work, Stiles and Meilani decided to hang out until he got home. Meilani hated being in the big house by herself. She may be a tough little cookie, but loneliness was something she was not too keen about. She blamed her dad walking out on the family for the reason she couldn't handle being alone.
As the ending credits of the movie started scrolling along the screen, Meilani stretched and looked up at Stiles. "I should probably go change my bandage huh?"
"I could think of something more fun than that," Stiles whispered, leaning down and kissing Meilani on the lips.
Meilani giggled against Stiles' lips before pulling away. "We can do that after we change my gross bandage. Come on," She said, standing up from the bed and pulling Stiles with her into the en suite bathroom.
Groaning, Stiles followed after her and hopped up onto the bathroom sink as Meilani bent down and grabbed the bandage and rubbing alcohol from underneath the sink, standing back to her full height afterwards.
"This is gonna suck," She complained before taking her shirt off, revealing her blood covered bandage.
In any other moment, Stiles would have checked Meilani's body out and probably made a suggestive comment about her taking her shirt off in front of him. However, seeing the bloodied bandage only made him want to pass out. He had to stay strong for Meilani though and help her clean the wound before putting the new bandage on for her.
Meilani grabbed the top of the bandage and gingerly removed it so she wouldn't irritate the wound. Once the bandage was off, she stared at her side in disbelief. Smooth, tan skin now took over the place where the wound had been. Meilani blinked a few times to make sure she wasn't just seeing things.
"Babe, I thought you said there was a huge bite mark in your side," Stiles spoke up after a whole five minutes of silence. He was just as confused as Meilani. How could a bite wound as big as the one Meilani had just go away overnight?
Meilani opened her mouth a few times but failed to form any words. She couldn't even begin to explain what was going on. This whole thing was just getting weirder and weirder by the minute and she wasn't sure she wanted to find out what was going on.
