"This is the worst thing that could ever happen to us." Johnny spoke to his Eagle Fangs in the old warehouse. "Pushed back thirteen weeks? Over stupid school? Who cares about school when you have karate? Skills competition, bullshit. Kata isn't karate. It's dancing! What's this crap about a girls division? Thought they were all about woman's lib. They ought to man up and take a punch like the rest of us."
"Sensei, in thirteen weeks, Alaska will be able to fight with us." Miguel spoke up, nodding toward the Lee girl who sat on one of the metal boxes, braced wrist in one lap, iced sprain one in the other.
"Antarctica!" Johnny called for her, watching her eyebrows shoot up. "You gonna win the girls division?"
"Ugh, yes sensei!" she yelled back with a nod of her head. "Maybe."
"Maybe?" he asked in disbelief.
"Well, I think I probably could." she nodded with a minor guilty look. "But, i've never fought at a All Valley before."
"Oh, shit. Yeah, she didn't go to the last one." Wyatt recalled her saying that, whispering over to Miguel. "Is it terrifying?"
"Kinda intimidating." he whispered back.
"Who cares? You march up on that mat and kick the crap out of the rest of them!" he yelled her way with a point.
"Yes, sensei." she agreed, looking at her womanless team. "But Cobra Kai is probably gonna have more then just Tory, shouldn't we have more girls?"
"Why? You scared you can't win?" he crossed his arms.
"No! No! I-I can win." she nodded with wide eyes, voice echoing in the warehouse. "But, it would probably make me feel better knowing someone else was in my corner, you know? Backing me up if I need it."
"Do any of you know any girls?" Johnny looked back at the group of boys, all silent and looking down. "Of course you don't know any girls. I know Antartica doesn't know any girls either."
"I know girls!" she said back quickly, he looked her way. "Just, probably not girls that want to do karate with a bunch of gross boys."
"There's this girl from the debate team with Al." Bert nodded quickly.
"Debate team? We need killers, not make nerds." Johnny shot his way in disbelief. Alaska rolled her eyes. "All right, go run some laps. Maybe it'll jog your memories. Try not to breath too much. There black mold in the corner."
Alaska sneakingly send a text to Eli, after giving him her old phone until his new one came in, asking if he was gonna come to practice today.
"Yeah, I mean, we kinda got together at the wedding but then the whole hair chop thing kinda broke us up again." Alaska nodded as she walked between Wyatt and Miguel after practice. "But, now, we're all good and officially back together."
"Well, figure out a way to get him back here, because without you, I feel very out of place." Wyatt nodded his head, adjusting his jacket on his arms. "No offense, Miguel."
"Non taken." he said back, elbowing Alaska. "Is your brace gonna be off by prom?"
"Yes, thank god. Imagine waving this around when I break down to some old 2010 songs." Alaska rose her brace with a nod. "But, it'll be really fresh."
"It's kinda killer that you get to compete now, I know you were really hoping so." Wyatt nodded alongside her. "Guess the Karate Gods were on your side."
"Guess so. All that manifesting and yelling at Jesus really helped." Alaska nodded, using her sprained hand to push some of her hair, that had grown out a bit longer recently, back off the blue and red sweater. "Are you gonna ask Sam to prom?"
"Already did." he gave a cheeky grin down at her. "She said yes, obviously."
"Please, do not rub it in." Wyatt waved him off.
"Aw, Wy. Meat will come around and realize his mean girlfriend is nothing compared to you." Alaska said back with a nod. "And if he doesn't, I will kidnap Yasmine and tattoo bitch on her face."
"Jesus christ." Miguel squeezed his eyes shut.
"That's the nicest thing anyones ever said to me." Wyatt placed a hand on his heart with a smile. "I could ask Kody from math class, he's cute."
"He is cute." Alaska agreed with a nod of her head. "Does he like boys?"
"Yeah, well, i'm assuming so. He has unlabeled in his twitter bio." Wyatt shrugged back as Alaska and Miguel listened to him. "But, that just means he doesn't wanna label anything, right?"
"Now's the time to find out." Miguel stopped them, nodding toward the familiar math class boy, who sat on the bleachers, looking down at one of his text books in pure confusion.
"I can't just go up to a guy and ask if he likes guys. He use to date that one girl, so, I don't want him to think i'm like, assuming he likes guys." Wyatt stressed as he shrugged.
"His mom owns the place Eli goes to get h- where he use to go to get his hair dyed." Alaska looked toward the chocolate haired boy on the bleachers.
"Hey, you guys, come on!" Johnny yelled at the three as he walked before them.
"You sure you're gonna be able to convince em?" Miguel walked by his side.
"Please. When I went to this school, the only thing I was better at then karate, and I was pretty good at karate, was talking to chicks." Johnny nodded his head, looking over to Alaska. "Just ask you mom."
She pulled an odd look. "My mom?"
"Watch and learn, boys and Antarctica. Watch and learn." the blonde ignored her, walking off toward the girls practices.
"This is not gonna be weird at all." Wyatt said with a shake of his head.
"My mom?" Alaska spoke up again with a gross look on her face. "Sensei and my Mom?"
"Yeah, welcome to the club." Miguel patted her back. "Glad you know how I feel."
Johnnys attempt to get a girl was not very strong, most of them running off, handing out flyers to girls that didn't seem to care too much. The trio followed after, watching as he was rejected a number of times.
"You!" Johnny turned and threw a finger in Miguel's direction. "I got baby oil."
"Oh my god." Wyatt shook his head.
Alaska backed off with a nod to Miguel. "All you, buddy."
"Trust me, the chicks are gonna love this." Johnny said back, squirting a hand full of oil into Miguel's hands.
"Hey, too much!" he called to him with a crazy look.
"You gotta get into every groove." the blonde said back, spraying Miguel with it after he lost the top layer of shirt he had. "It's about molding highlands to emphasize curvature. Where's your beach ball?"
Miguel sighed, pulling his arms to the front. "Here's the beach ball."
"I model sometimes, let me show." Wyatt nodded for Miguel to follow his lead, showing off different forms of poses as Johnny talked to some more girls, pointing over at Miguel.
When it hadn't worked a number of times, he came back toward the three while Miguel got his clothes back on. "I don't get it, I thought girls today were suppose to be tough."
"Yeah, we are. We also have to be more aware of our surroundings and more on the look out for people that wanna trap us and sale us on Ikea, pretending we're house items." Alaska pointed out as Johnny gave her a weird look. "Don't look at me like that, it's true. I know you don't get it, because you're a straight, cis, white dude, but the world is a dangerous place. We have to be carful. Especially teenage girls. That's why I told you to just let me, a fellow girls that they can trust, do this."
"Hey, Alaska!" a new voice rung, making them turn to see Moon smiling their way. "Hey, Miguel and Wyatt."
"Hey, Moon." Alaska smiled at her.
"What's up?" Miguel asked alongside her.
"Apparently some perv was creeping on the track team so we're gonna practice inside." she nodded, making Alaska give a knowing look. "What are you guys doing here? How's your hand?"
"It's getting better." Alaska nodded.
"Looking for more Alaskas." Wyatt answered her.
"Recruiting for our new dojo."Miguel explained, holding the flyers in his hand.
"Eagle Fang Karate." Johnny nodded to her.
"Yeah. You know, you should join, actually." Miguel nodded to Moon as she smiled.
"Really? Okay. Yeah, that sounds like fun." her face lit up before falling quickly. "Wait. Do...Do I have to hit anyone?"
"Hell yeah, you do. You can hit every single one of them." Johnny pointed a finger at her knowingly.
"Oh, no, then i'm out. I...I can't do the whole physical aggression thing." Moon shook her head with a frown. "But, you know, you guys should ask my ex."
"Hawk?" Miguel asked, Alaska looked around awkwardly.
"No, my other ex." Moon laughed slightly. "She's the best athlete in school and she's not afraid to get into a fight."
"Piper?" Alaska asked, getting a nod in return.
"Sounds like the bad ass babe we've been looking for." Johnny looked to Miguel knowingly.
"Yeah, you might want to take a different approach with her." Moon nodded knowingly. "Wants some pointers?"
It wasn't long until they were walking off with tips on how to get Piper. Johnny looked to Alaska. "I'd leave you for her too."
"What?" Alaska pulled a stupid look.
"Hawk. He left you for her, didn't need?" the blonde nodded.
Alaska shrugged. "No, not really. I mean, we weren't together when he got with her. What do you mean you'd leave me for her? Are you kidding?"
"She's not a nerd like you." he pointed out.
"Rude." Wyatt commented.
"Well, it doesn't matter." Alaska rolled her eyes. "Let me remind you who he ended up with."
"Didn't she break up with him?" Sensei Lawrence asked.
"Sensei." Miguel spoke up with wide eyes.
"I'm just saying. I always thought Hawk and Antartica were together, this new chick took me off guard." he rose his hands in surrender.
"What? You think he only got with me because Moon dumped him?" Alaska asked, and suddenly her mind was racing horribly and her heart was thumping.
"Alaska, no, okay? No." Miguel waved her off.
"That's not what I meant, Antartica. I meant, like, unrelated to you and Hawk when I asked if she broke up with him." Johnny waved her off. Alaska nodded, falling into a string of advanced thoughts that shed never even taken into consideration before.
"Don't overthink it." Wyatt cut in when the pair trailed back when they reach the gym. "You just got back together. All of us know how much Eli likes you."
"Yeah, I know." she said back with a small shrug, her face fallen. "But, would we have even gotten together if Moon didn't dump him?"
"Of course!" Wyatt gave a nod.
"I mean she's fast, she's strong.." Miguel listed on as the four watched Piper flip on the mat in the gym.
"Girls a nature eagle." Johnny nodded his head. "She's into chicks, Star said?"
"Moon." Alaska corrected him with an eye roll. "But, yeah, just chicks."
"Good, then you pretend you're into chicks too." Johnny nodded his head.
"Well, theoretically speaking, I have a boyfriend, meaning I like guys, but girls too, I don't really notice a certain gender when I get attracted to someone." Alaska nodded her head. "So, I don't have to pretend."
"You're half lesbian?" Johnny looked at her.
"Oh my god." Wyatt mumbled in disbelief.
"Pansexual." she corrected him with a raise of her eyebrows.
"Oh, which one is yours?" One of the dads next to Johnny asked with a smile.
"Well, that one looks good to me." Johnny pointed in Pipers direction. "Haven't talk to her yet though. I'm still working on my approach. Got any advice?"
The trio of teens shared a wide eyed look of disbelief. Miguel took a breath. "Okay, remember what Moon told you?"
"Yes, I will be awake." he nodded his head.
"No, no, no." Miguel called as he walked off, pulling Alaska by the sweater collar. "Be woke."
"That's poor girl." Wyatt shook his head.
"Hey, Piper." Alaska said as she gave a tiny wave when they were walked over.
"Looking For Alaska." Piper greeted her with a cheeky look. "Didn't expect to see you here. What happened to your hand?"
"Boxer Fracture." Alaska nodded her head. "I actually just wanted to introduce you to-"
"Sensei John Lawrence of Eagle Fang Karate." Johnny cut her off with knowing look to Piper. "Let me tell you why my dojo is perfect for a modern young woman like yourself. We live in a world where you gotta be an alpha to survive. You're either a killer or you're dead meat. You gotta be a man."
He noticed the discouraging look she gave, snapping his fingers. "But at Eagle Fang we confront that problematic phrase and make it empowering for all. We teach anyone who identifies as female to embrace their queenly strength and tear down the neo-masculine hierarchy to confront internalized sexism."
Alaska blinked in shock as Piper grinned. "Sounds inclusive. But what about non-binary and gender fluid?"
"Yes, fluids are crucial." Johnny gave a knowing point. "If you don't hydrate, it affects performance."
Piper laughed as Alaska nodded. "He's funny."
"Well, actually, I have been meaning to join a dojo." Piper admitted with a smile. "I didn't want to be the last person who doesn't know karate. And if the girl from the parties gonna be there..."
Alaskas eyes widened as Piper smiled at her. "You and that guy broke up, didn't you?"
"Well, actually-" Alaska began.
"Definitely broken up with. He dumped her, she's completely on the market." Johnny cut her off with a nod. "And, you see her hand? She's gonna need someone to write for her and open her door like a strong, gentlewoman."
Johnny passed her the flyer as a voice rung. "Hey, Piper! Come check this out."
Piper looked back at the rest of the girls, looking at the pair again. "Okay, cool, i'll be there."
"All right." Johnny smiled.
