Bonus Chapter: Cameron

Cameron's POV:

After nine months of studying hard, I graduated from boarding school and finally found the chance to go home and meet my little nephew Noah. Hailey would send me his cute pictures, but I just wanted to hug that little bundle of joy that always put a beautiful smile on his mother's face.

I already loved my little nephew. I wanted him to grow up fast, so I could teach him how to drive sports bike and spray paint walls without getting caught by cops. I would not let him take after his father's boring personality. He would turn out a smart and fun guy like his uncle. Then my mind reminded me that he was only one month old at the moment. I would have to wait for sixteen years to finally teach him all this stuff.

The day when I found out Hailey was pregnant; I felt concerned for her and my brother. I didn't what were they thinking when they decided to have a baby. They were both still too young for such a responsibility and their relationship wasn't stable at that moment. The baby brought great joy to our house after the death of our grandfather, surpassingly the news brought Chase out of the grief of losing our granddad.

The car stopped outside my house. I got out of the car and told the driver to bring my bags inside. I made my way towards the main door and entered expecting to hear a welcome from everyone as they know from weeks that I would be coming back home today.

Did the silence in the house bother me? It bothered me a lot, and it made me specious that something wasn't right.

"Mom, where are you?" I yelled.

She didn't reply and my heart started to beat a little faster. I went straight to my parents' room and found Allison sitting on the chair near the bed where my mother was sleeping soundly.

Allison looked up at me and got up from the chair. She took my arm and dragged me back to the living room.

"Allison, is everything fine?" I asked her worried.

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. "Cameron, let's sit on the couch then I will tell you everything,"

We sat down on the couch. I looked at her in anticipation, waiting for her to tell me something, but she stayed silent. My eyes went to her hands. She started to play with her fingers and it was a clear give away that she was nervous.

I placed my hand on her and she stopped playing with her fingers.

"Allison, please tell me what's the matter? Why mom is sleeping at two in the afternoon? Where is everyone?" I asked her.

"Mom is sleeping because she took the sleeping pills for some peace," Allison said.

"Why? She never took sleeping pills before. And as much as I remember she always hated pills," I said.

"She is sad, her heart is breaking, but she has too much pride. She wouldn't accept her defeat and failure," Allison said looking down.

"Please stop talking in riddles," I said irritated.

"Chase has moved out," Allison said.

"Moved out? When? Where he is living now?" I asked her.

"He didn't tell us where he is going?" Allison said.

"What do you mean? Did he leave without saying anything? Dad must know where he is? Did he take Hailey and Noah with him too?" I asked in a panic.

My mind was torn between worry for my brother and my mother. In my whole eighteen years of life, I had never seen my mom in such a fragile condition. She was the woman who always looked ready for photo-shoot, so now, finding her in a feeble state increased my tension.

"Cameron, Chase left without Noah and Hailey, because they don't live here anymore," My sister said looking said.

I started at my sister, and I knew she could see the confusion in my eyes.

"Chase and Hailey got divorced last month. She has been living with her parents for the past month. Chase moved out two weeks ago and mom is still not ready to believe that she drove her son away,"

I got up from the couch; nothing was making sense in my head.

"But I talked Hailey two weeks ago; she told me everything is great. She is happy and Chase has changed a lot," I said to her struggling to digest the information she was feeding me.

"She knew that you were in the middle of your finals, and this news would distract you from your studies, so she asked me to hide everything from you while she did the same,"

I wasn't ready to believe, my mind was replaying the two weeks old Skype call of Hailey. She told me everything was great, she looked happy, my nephew was fine.

Now, I knew they were lies to fool me, to make me think that her life is perfect when in reality she was just pretending to be happy.

"I cannot believe this. After going through so much and staying together through everything, why would they get divorced now?" I asked her.

"Chase wasn't ready to become a father; he wanted to live and experience his life as a normal guy of his age. He wants to work as an intern before taking the CEO post in our company," Allison said.

I shook my head in disbelief.

"He's the most selfish person in this world. How could he leave his wife and newly born son when they both need him most?" I asked Allison in anger.

"Cameron, what's done is done. We cannot change anything now. I think everyone needs to stop interfering in their life. They both are fine and Noah is happy with his mother," Allison said looking tired.

I could see she was hiding something from me. She wasn't telling me the whole truth, but I promised myself that I would find out everything.

I turned around and walked out of the house.

I aimlessly walked a few blocks away from my house trying to cool down my anger. Then, I found an empty bench outside a building and sat down in defeat.

When I met Hailey that day in the kitchen she reminded me of Mia. Mia was my best friend. After her death, I was a mess. I was blaming myself for not taking care of her. I was in grief; my parents threw me in a boarding school because they didn't know what to do with me. They never knew when their child needs them.

Mia was in love with Rick. He was a transferred student from London. Almost, all the girls of the school were crazy about him and Mia was too. When I confronted her, she denied having any feelings for him.

I shouldn't have believed her, but I did and it was the biggest mistake of my life. Rick was just a simple, nice guy; he never dated anyone in school and it appealed Mia more towards him. She took that as a challenge and wanted to make him fall for her. She told me it was just a game, she wanted to see if she can break his barriers and have him. I thought she was just playing one her pranks on him.

She lied to me, she was crazy about him but refused to accept her obsession.

The whole year she did everything from dropping her books intentionally on the hallways every day to dressing in revealing clothes, but nothing made that guy look at her more than as a friend. It annoyed her and made her angry.

He asked me once, what was going on with Mia. But I didn't tell him anything. It was not my place to reveal my best friend secrets to him.

I didn't know what was going in her stupid head when she tried to seduce Rick by sitting on his lap in the cafeteria. That day, he had enough of her stupid moves and he lashed out.

"I don't like you, Mia. I don't want you. I have a girlfriend who is in a coma. She got in an accident last year and I am waiting for her to wake up. I'm faithful to her because I'm in love with her, so don't you dare to try to take her place. I will not give her place to anyone," He yelled in front of everyone then he stormed out of the cafeteria.

Mia was humiliated in front of everyone so she also left. I was about to follow her when Rick collided with me looking upset.

"Is Mia inside?" He asked me.

"No, she just left and I am going after her," I said.

"Cameron, I didn't want to hurt her. Tell her I am a broken person. She doesn't deserve someone like me. I love Lisa, not her. She's a nice girl but she is not for me," Rick said looking deeply hurt.

"It's fine. I'll talk to her and she will understand," I said patting his shoulder.

I followed her and found her in a parking lot sitting inside the car.

"I love him. I lied to you every time you asked me. I love him so much, Cameron. Why can't he be mine? What is wrong with me?" She asked grabbing my arms.

"Nothing is wrong with you," I replied.

"I'm rich. I'm beautiful. Every guy of the school wants to be with me so why doesn't he wants me?" She asked.

I looked at her in concern. She never said anything like this before. She sounded egotistic and vile.

She started crying on my chest while I rubbed her back. In our ten years of friendship, I had seen her cry many times for different things, but this time she was in pain. She wasn't the girl to easily fall for any guy and Rick wasn't a wrong choice, but the timings were not in their favor.

"You will find someone a lot better than him, trust me," I said and she pulled away from me.

"But I want him. I only want him, Cameron," She yelled.

"But he doesn't want you, Mia. He loves his girlfriend. He told me that he will always love her and I should help you to understand this," I said caressing her cheek.

"I hope that girl dies. I want her to die," She yelled.

I pulled away from her and she stared at me in surprise. I was unable to recognize my friend, she wasn't the same girl that I met ten years ago.

"Where are you going, Cameron?" She asked in a panic.

"I'm leaving. I can't believe how you can wish death upon some girl just because of a guy who doesn't even love you," I said feeling angry.

"Even if that girl dies, it is not necessary that he will start liking you," I said before leaving her in the school parking lot.

Next day, I went to school to feel everyone eyes on me. They were giving me pitiful glances; some were staring at me in curiosity, and some were giving me apologetic smiles. One of my friends made his way towards me.

"Hey, how are you? I thought you wouldn't come to school today," Jeremy said.

"Why would you think that?" I asked him confused.

"Mia was your best friend and I thought you would like to spend some time with her before they take her to the cemetery," Jeremy said.

"What the hell are you talking man? Why would they take her to the cemetery?" I yelled pushing him back in anger.

"She got in a car accident last night and this morning doctors declared her dead," Jeremy said. "It's all over the news, man,"

My world collapsed under me. I drove to her house and realized it wasn't one of her pranks to make me ditch school.

Doctors found alcohol in her system, she was drunk when her car collided with a tree and fell down from the cliff. The police clearly told her parents that she hit her car deliberately to that tree. She died with a broken heart.

I didn't want the same thing to happen to Hailey. I didn't want her to do something because my brother is too dumb to see love in her eyes.

I pulled out my cellphone and called Hailey on her home number. She didn't have the phone yet.

"Hello,"

Her soft voice fell in my ear making my heart ache.

"Hey," I said.

"Cameron, is that you? Are you back?" She asked sounding excited.

A smile appeared on my face.

"Yes, it's me and I am back.  Can you guess, what I got as a welcoming surprise?" I asked her sarcastically and she became silent.

"Do you know, how excited I was to meet my little nephew?" I asked her feeling betrayed.

"I'm sorry, Cameron. I thought hiding a truth little longer wouldn't hurt you that much. I wanted to tell you but I didn't want to distract you from your studies." She said sounding upset.

I took a deep breath and looked at the sky.

"Hailey, why did you guys get the divorce? You told me he was taking care of you, giving you his full attention, and trying to become a good father for his son,"

"I don't know what happened. I don't know what I did wrong. I thought things were getting better but one day he came to my room and asked me to sign the divorce papers. He said some hurtful things and I signed the papers in anger."

She turned silent and I cursed my brother for breaking the heart of this angel.

"I think, Chase never loved me and he always wanted to get rid of me. I was not made for him, he deserves someone much better than me," Hailey said.

The pain and sadness in her voice made me hate my own brother. How could he break the heart of such a loving girl?

"Don't you dare to say that. You deserve someone better than him. He's a coward, he always was and always will be," I spat in anger.

"I have moved on, Cameron. Don't hate him for this. He is your brother, he always will be. He loves and you know it," she said.

"Hailey, promise me you'll stay strong no matter what," I said.

"Excuse me, boy. You have no idea how strong I have become in the past month because of my son. He is becoming my strength. His every small move brings a smile on my face," She said sounding proud.

"It means he is not an ass like his father," I mumbled.

Hailey laughed aloud catching me off guard. I never heard her laughing heartily before.

"No, he is a joker like his uncle Cameron," she said in a teasing tone.

"Hey! I'm not a joker, you meanie," I said.

"Yeah, right, you are not a joker. The first time we met you played a prank on me that took ten years of my life," She said reminding of our first encounter.

"I thought I would find Amy or mom in the kitchen. I didn't know you will be there. If only I knew you are going to be there I would have made a nice impression," I said.

"Don't try to fool me into thinking that you regret that prank. It was clear on your face, how much you enjoyed scaring me to the death with that stupid fake gun," She said sounding embarrassed.

I laughed recalling her scared face and wide eyes looking around for something in the kitchen to throw at me.

"You can come to meet Noah any day you want. Noah would love to meet you," she said.

"I will definitely come to meet him very soon," I told her.

"I have to go. Cameron, Take care," she said.

"Hailey, thank you," I said ending the call.

I turned my head to find a girl leaning on the poll. She was dressed in blue jeans shorts and a white shirt which had 'Angle' written on it. Her red hair was on top of her head in a messy bun and her sapphire color eyes were curiously staring at me.

I cleared my throat to gain her attention. She snapped out from her staring spree and smiled at me.

She took the few steps forward and sat down on the bench beside me. I looked at her anxiously.

"Hi, I'm Bianca," She said extending her slender hand to me.

Suddenly I felt nervous and confused. It was the first time that I felt nervous around the girl.

"I'm Cameron," I said shaking her hand.

As soon as my hand touched her, I felt something wash over me, something like instant calmness.

"I was just taking a walk, but heard you talking on the phone and started eavesdropping," She said nonchalantly and my eyes widened at her confession.

"Why were you eavesdropping? It's rude to hear someone's private conversation," I said to her sternly.

"I'm sorry, I didn't intentionally hear you. It's just your conversation intrigued me. I have kind of a curious personality," She said with a smile.

Her eyes were twinkling with each lift of her lips. I felt like they were communicating with me in their own way,

"You mean to say that you are a nosy person," I said little rudely.

"Umm, you can say that. I am a nosy person and have a habit of talking to strangers on the street," She said teasingly.

"It's not a good habit. I could be a murder, a serial killer or a psychopath who rips off beautiful girls' hair and eat them," I said leaning closer to her trying to scare her.

She threw her head back and laughed aloud. I felt frozen on the stop staring at her in awe.

"I know you are not a murder, a serial killer or a psychopath who rips off beautiful girls' hair and eat them. But Cameron you are a funny guy," She said placing her hand on my cheek.

The tingles on my skin increased and I wanted to lean closer into her touch.

"How you can be so sure?" I asked her dumbfounded.

A beautiful smile appeared on her face, distracting me from her eyes and making me look at her soft red lips.

"I know you," She whispered.

"But I don't know you," I frowned at her claims.

If I knew her I would have remembered it.

"You have all the time in the world to get to know me," She said in a singsong voice.

"I don't know what you are talking about?"

"Tell me, why are you sad?" She asked me staring into my eyes caressing my cheek.

My tongue started working on it own and I was spilling the whole story of my life to that strange girl.

She stared at me then sighed retracting her hand back.

"Sometimes we think that things are turning out bad and nothing will be good again. But bad things happen to make us realize how many good things we have to appreciate. Your brother might have divorced your Hailey, but it doesn't mean that they wouldn't find happiness again," She said.

Did her word make sense? It made a lot more sense than I was expecting. It was true my brother didn't make the decision to get married to Hailey. It was forced on him and he did it to make our granddad happy.

But what was that? I noticed care in my brother's eyes for her. I had noticed jealousy in eyes when he saw Hailey more around me than him. I knew Hailey fell in love with him. I didn't why she fell for my dumb brother but she did. It was clear in her eyes, in her actions, and in her words.

"But they loved each other, I know. I saw it in their eyes," I mumbled.

"If they love each other then they will cross path again. They wouldn't be able to live without each other for long," She said with the knowing smile on her face.

"How do you know this?" I asked her.

"Well, I know everything. I am an angel, after all," She said looking at her shirt.

I rolled my eyes at her.

"It was nice talking to you, Cameron. I think I should go now," She said looking at her silver chained wristwatch which I didn't notice before.

"Don't worry about your nephew. Noah will grow up into a great man," she said.

I frowned when she mentioned Noah's name. I didn't tell her that his name.

"Hey! I didn't tell you my nephew's name," I said.

She giggled and ran away leaving me star struck.

My eyes caught something shiny lying on the pavement and I picked it up. It was her wristwatch.

I looked up to call her but she had already disappeared.

I read the words "find me" written on the back.

"I will find you, nosy angel," I muttered stuffing the wristwatch in my pocket.

I walked back to my house with a smile on my face.
