LORELEI HAS NEVER ENJOYED SCHOOL DANCES. They just weren't really her thing. But every time with no fail Leo managed to convince her to go. This time it hadn't been an exception, because not only was Leo begging her to go but also Adam, Bree, and Chase. When Lorelei had agreed to go she hadn't been planning to deal with so many things before the dance. Bree had been freaking out about talking to this one guy she liked named Ethan, because each time she saw him she literally speeded away. Then Adam, Chase, and Leo spend two days arguing over who would go with Danielle, Leo's crush, to the party.
Luckily, all got solved in the end and Lorelei had to admit she had fun. Adam, Bree, and Chase had surely made everything more interesting and now Lorelei could not wait to have another dance to attend to.
"Mr. Davenport, how come you don't have any baking soda in the kitchen?" Lorelei huffed, as she entered the lab. Then she paused, at the sight of a freezing Chase inside the middle capsule. "Also, why is Chase looking like a popsicle? I wanna do that!"
Davenport, Adam, Bree, and Leo turned to look at a disheveled Lorelei, all of them frowning at her appearance. Her hair that had been carefully braided into a dutch braid, was barely holding on with little hairs going all over the place. Her clothes were stained and she had flour on random parts of her face.
"What happened to you? You look like you fought someone and lost." Bree said, surprised at seeing Lorelei so unkept. The girl always looked clean and put together.
"That's just how she looks whenever she tries baking something and it goes wrong." Leo explained, unlike Bree he was very used to seeing this side of Lorelei. He can still remember the first time Lorelei tried baking something. It had been a disaster. After the death of Lorelei's parents, her therapist had recommended for the girl to try out new hobbies to use as a coping mechanism. And for some reason the girl had chosen baking, out of all the options out there.
The blonde had almost burnt down the whole house while attempting to make cookies. Tasha then had strictly prohibited Lorelei to step in the kitchen, forcing the blonde to find some other hobby that didn't implicate leaving them homeless. So, that's when she began taking kick boxing classes. Lorelei has never been the type to enjoy physical activities because she hates sweating, but kick boxing helped a lot with letting out those suppressed emotions out and it was quite fun.
So she did that for a while until Tasha finally allowed her to attempt baking again, of course, this time with supervision and a fire extinguisher at hand. Surprisingly, there was no need for that because her attempt at baking cookies had been a success. When Tasha and Leo tried the cookies they called it the best cookies they ever had, so after that the girl continued baking, leaving behind her kick boxing lessons.
But even now, after a few years of expertise and experimenting in the kitchen there were still times when stuff just wouldn't come out the way it was supposed to.
"I was going to bake the cake I promised I would give to Chase, but there's no baking soda in the kitchen. I tried using a substitute because I already had everything else ready, but it didn't come out right." Lorelei explained, taking a seat on one of the stools inside the lab. Her feet were killing her. She had spend way too long standing in that kitchen.
"Well, we have more important things going on right now, Lori." Mr. Davenport said, pacing around like a mad man. "Like, the fact that the high-speed train I created is speeding out of control and going over 400 miles an hour, which is very awesome, with highly explosive nuclonium and it's heading to downtown Welkerville!"
"But what about my baking soda?" Lorelei asked, as she spun back and forth on the stool letting out a giggle occasionally when it moved to fast.
"We'll worry about your baking soda later." Davenport said as he checked something on the computer. "My entire career is riding or perhaps crashing on this train! I don't understand it! My design was flawless!"
"So flawless you forgot to include an emergency brake?" Leo pointed out making Davenport glare at him.
From her spot on the stool, Lorelei pouted. She didn't care about some dumb train, all she wanted was to bake the cake she had promised Chase. And speaking of Chase, Lorelei looked to her right, her eyes widening when she saw Chase still in the capsule.
She got off the stool and grabbed a towel that was lying on a nearby desk before going to the control panel and hitting the button she assumed would open the capsule. This caught the attention of Adam, Bree, Leo, and Mr. Davenport, who had been facing away minutes before.
"Lori, what are you doing?" Davenport asked, probably worried the girl would mess up some of his technology.
Lorelei ignored the question and approached Chase, handling him the towel as he shivered. The boy gave her the best smile he could show as he looked at Mr. Davenport. "M-m-maybe sa-sa-aving me from fr-r-eezing to death."
Davenport grimaced along with Adam, Bree, and Leo. They had all forgotten they had left Chase inside the freezing capsule. "Oh, Chase." he groaned, "Now I have to explain the whole train story again."
≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫
While Davenport came up with a solution to stop the train, Lorelei helped Leo and Bree warm up Chase with the towel. Davenport came back into the lab with a black duffle bag and he placed it on the table. "The good news is whenever I invent something, I always create a backup device to support it."
Chase turned to look at Davenport. "As opposed to just building it right the first time."
Lorelei chuckled before taking a seat beside Chase, her attention on whatever Mr. Davenport was going to take out of the bag. The man paused what he was doing to give Chase a look. "Ya know, I think I liked you better frozen."
At his words, the blonde light up. "Uhh, like the movie! I always liked Elsa." She frowned, "I actually auditioned to be Elsa in a school play but I didn't get the role because I kept forgetting the lines. At least, Leo got the role of Olaf."
Adam, Bree, and Chase looked at the blonde in surprise. Wondering why she never mentioned it when she quite literally forced them to watch the movie with her after they had returned from the school dance. It was meant to be as a way of making it up to her for forcing her to go to the dance.
Leo shook his head at the childhood memory. "Don't even remind me. I looked ridiculous in that costume and the material was super itchy. You would've thought they would at least invest in some better quality fabric with how much they hyped up that play."
"I can see it. You still got the height and everything." Adam pointed out making everyone laugh.
Bree chuckled, turning to Leo. "You in an Olaf costume? Now that's something I wish to see."
"There's actually a pict-"
"No!" Leo interrupted before Lorelei could finish her sentence. "There's nothing." He said through gritted teeth as he stared at Lorelei, hoping she'll get the point. She didn't because why was he lying? In her opinion, she thought he looked adorable in the Olaf costume.
"Guys, could you please focus?" Davenport said, before he almost began crying. "This handsome guy is going through it over here. My career is on the line!"
Adam nodded with a fake look of sympathy as he placed his hand on Davenport's shoulder. "Is the handsome guy here yet?"
Davenport glared at the taller boy before unzipping the duffel bag and taking out some weird artifact. "My auxiliary decelerated will stop anything, ocean liners, freight trains, tanks, eighteen-wheelers, twelve-wheelers-"
"Does it stop unnecessarily long explanations?" Leo asked.
"Apparently so." Davenport said before placing the decelerator back into the bag, "Only problem is, I can't figure out how to get it on the train."
As Davenport moved around, Bree turned to Adam and Chase. "You guys thinking what I'm thinking? Our first mission!" She said in unison with Chase.
"I want a pet pig!" Adam exclaimed, obviously not thinking the same thing his siblings were.
Davenport furrowed his eyebrows, the idea not exciting him at all. "No. No. No. No. You are not prepared for this kind of mission. It is a highly volatile situation. Down the line—fingers crossed— there will be plenty of other horrible disasters."
"Yeah, but you need to stop this train now." Chase said as the three walked closer to Mr. Davenport. "And you need us to help you do it."
"Please, Mr. Davenport. This is what you trained us for." Added Bree.
With a few seconds of contemplation, Mr. Davenport accepted. "Alright, you gotta leave the nest sometime. Okay, get in your capsules, guys." He smiled almost choking up. "I can't believe I'm saying this........it's time to upgrade your mission suits."
Lorelei stood up from the stool to stand beside Leo, actually interested in how the new suits would look like. Adam, Bree, and Chase excitedly made their way to change into their new mission suits before Adam stopped just when he was about to enter the capsule. He turned to Mr. Davenport. "I hope you addressed the chafing problem."
Davenport looked at both Leo and Lorelei with a confused look which the other two mirrored. Lorelei turned her attention back to the capsules just when the new suits appeared on Adam, Bree, and Chase. The material was a grey stretchy material, comfortable for the three bionic teenagers to move around freely in their missions, the suits had black and coral accents with Davenport's company logo in the middle. It was definitely an upgrade to what they used to wear.
"Ohh! I see you put in seat warmers." Adam said as the three of them got out of their capsules.
Davenport nodded with a proud smile before moving back to the lab table. He grabbed a yellow container. "Alright we'll be able to use these earpieces to communicate, and I'll monitor your progress on the train surveillance system. That way if you blow yourselves up in a fiery explosion I can watch it unfold in glorious HD."
The group shared disturbed looks before Davenport said, "That came out wrong."
Despite Davenport's weird comment, Chase couldn't help but celebrate once he remembered they were about to do what they've always been training for. "We get our first mission!"
"And we get to save lives!" Bree also said with enthusiasm and Lorelei couldn't help but smile feeling happy for her friends. It was clear this meant a lot to them.
"Seriously, I want a pig!" Adam exclaimed, growing frustrated because nobody was paying attention to his previous request. The others gave him weird looks, yet Lorelei grinned at his words.
"Baby pigs are actually so cute!" Lorelei said, her attention on Adam. "I used to have a neighbor that had lots of animals and she would let me go hang out with them. I would go give them food and talk to them but they never talked back." The blonde pouted remembering how the animals would only silently stare back at her after she had ranted to them about her day. "I think it was because they were shy."
Chase looked at the blonde. "I'm about ninety-nine point nine percent sure that animals don't talk, Lori."
Adam shared a look with Lorelei before they turned to Chase. "Yes, they do!"
Chase shrugged, knowing it was better to just let it be. Mr. Davenport sigh, as he began passing around the earpieces, when he went to pass the one belonging to Adam, Leo snatched it from his hand.
"Hey!"
"Leo!"
The boy, who was trying to put the earpiece on, gave up and passed it back to Adam. "What am I supposed to use, two cans and a string?"
Just in that moment, Tasha walked into the lab. "Well, your favorite news reporter just got their big break."
"Linda Montieres?"
"Chip Spudner?"
"And Tom Constan with sports?"
"I don't have a favorite reporter." Lorelei said, and it was true. She was never the type to watch the news. They were too boring for her.
Tasha shook her head at the names Adam, Bree, and Chase had mentioned. "No, me! I am done reporting on singing dogs and babies who look like ex-presidents. The network finally gave me a real assignment." She paused for a dramatic effect. "I'm covering a runaway train!"
Adam gasped. "No way! Ain't that a coinky-dink? Mr. Davenport-"
"Is, uh—is, uh, so proud of you, honey." Davenport interrupted before Adam could finish his sentence. Clearly, he didn't want his wife to find out about who was the owner of the train.
"Will you watch Leo and Lori? I have a train to catch." Tasha said making Davenport nod as he began pushing Tasha towards the lab doors.
"Absolutely, and don't forget, be balanced and fair, collect all the facts, and blame the conductor, he's an idiot."
Once Tasha left, Leo said, "This stinks. Everybody gets to go on an adventure except us."
Lorelei agreed with her brother's statement. "Yeah, we want to do cool stuff too."
Davenport turned to the pair. "Guys, just because you can't go on the train doesn't mean we can't have fun here. I'll pop in the Goober The Spunky Caboose DVD for you."
"What is that?" Lorelei asked.
"I'm fourteen." Leo said, quite offended by Davenport's words.
"Okay, then pop it in yourself." Davenport said and moved his attention to Adam, Bree, and Chase. "Come on, guys, we don't have a lot of time. We gotta get you in your gear."
Lorelei and Leo watched the four of them leave. The moment the back doors of the lab closed, Leo turned to Lorelei with a mischievous smile. "Do you think both of us would be able to fit into the bag?"
"What?"
"We want to go to the mission, right?" The boy asked, as he grabbed the bag and placed it down to the floor. Then he grabbed two extra earpieces and passed one to Lorelei. "Then we need to sneak in, otherwise Mr. Davenport is going to leave us here in the dark will Adam, Bree, and Chase get to go on a mission."
Lorelei frowned. "In the dark? There's plenty of light in the house, Leo. Also, I look all crazy." She said gesturing to her disheveled appearance.
Leo rolled his eyes, ignoring her first sentence. "Just take your hair off the braid and you'll be fine. We have to hurry. They'll be back soon."
Lorelei sighed, before nodding and taking off her braid. It wasn't that hard to do so considering the braid was already falling off. Putting in the earpiece Leo had given her, the two of them began trying to get into the bag. Luckily, the fabric was very stretchy so they were able to fit in.
≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫
"Leo?! Lori?!" Adam, Bree, and Chase exclaimed while the two siblings got out of the bag. Lorelei let out a pained noise and stretched her back. She was never going to let Leo convince her to do something like this again.
"Which way is the dinning car?" Leo asked, flashing a smile and placing his hands in his hips. "I'd like to get a bite to eat before I save the town of Welkerville!"
"Me too!" Lorelei said and copied Leo's pose. "I could go for some lasagna."
Chase shook his head and made his way to the bag they had hidden in to look for the decelerator. Bree was folding some long rope as she asked, "What are you guys doing here?!"
"Joining the mission. We want to be like you guys!" Leo answered.
"That! And also because I've never been on a train and I wanted to check it off my bucket list." Lorelei added shaking her fists in excitement.
"But Leo you're not like us. And I don't mean that in a bad way, we just have really cool, super-fun features, and you don't." Adam said successfully removing the smile on Leo and Lorelei's face. The blonde felt offended by Adam's comment because she honestly believed they could be of help. Well, maybe not so much help on her part but Leo could help. She knew about a lot of superheroes who did not posses any powers and were still relevant to the stories.
From the floor, Chase asked, "Leo, where's the decelerator we need to stop this train?" He stood up showing the empty bag.
Leo turned around with a guilty look. "You mean the pointy metal thing that was poking us in the butt?"
Lorelei flinched when Davenport's voice came through the earpiece. "It's right here!" There was a small bit of silence before Davenport spoke again. "Leo, Lori, I am supposed to be watching you!"
Leo looked at the camera on one of the top corners of the train car as he addressed Davenport. "And you are in glorious HD!"
"Leo, without the decelerator, we can't stop the train." Chase said, bearing the bad news. Lorelei touched her butterfly necklace for comfort as she suddenly began to grow worried.
"Mr. Davenport, what are we gonna do?" Bree asked, her voice filled with the same worry Lorelei was feeling.
"I'm coming to get Leo and Lori. If they blow up on that train, I'm gonna have to get Tasha some puppies! I'll bring the decelerator in my high-speed helicopter." The man chuckled. "Wow! How many guys can say that they have chased their high-speed train in their high-speed helicopter? I'm awesome! Okay, I'll be right there."
"Mr. Davenport can you make a pit stop and buy some baking soda?" Lorelei asked, her failed attempt at baking Chase's cake still in her mind.
"No, Lorelei." Davenport said exasperated.
The girl gasped and crossed her arms over her chest. "Okay, I get it. No need to call me by my full name."
Chase sighed, "I downloaded the train's route before we left the house. Let me pull it up so I can calculate how much time we have left."
Lorelei stood side by side with Leo, Bree, and Adam, watching in awe as a hologram projected from Chase's right eye. They all, apart from Chase, watched with squinted eyes as a bunch of numbers appeared, the amount was changing at a fast pace making it impossible to decipher what the actual number was.
"Oh, no, guys! There's only a two percent chance that we can save the train!" Chase made the hologram disappear and moved around in panic. "And if the train goes, we go! Brace yourselves! Bionic people do not explode well." He wrapped his arms around a big cylinder made of steel.
"I knew I should've written those goodbye letters yesterday." Lorelei whispered under her breath, not noticing the look Leo send her way.
"Chase, relax." Bree walked over to her brother. "I mean. There's a possibility we can survive the crash."
"Oh, Leo and Lori won't." Adam pointed at them, causing the two to look up at him with wide eyes. Lorelei was not ready to die yet. There was still so much stuff she wanted to do. Not even half of her bucket list was checked off. But, if she looked at the positive side of things, if she did die then she will be able to see her parents again which did sound nice.
Bree grimaced. "Oh, right. Never mind."
Chase let go of the cylinder and looked at his siblings with an apologetic expression. His voice soft. "I'm sorry you guys have to see me like this. I know you think of me as your ultra-competent, unwavering, fearless leader."
"Not really." Adam shook his head.
"Yeah, just the opposite, actually." Bree said, before trying again to keep things positive. "Chase, look, everything is gonna be fine."
Leo nodded, "Yeah! I mean, Big D's on his way in his high-speed helicopter."
No matter how much they tried, Chase still continued to voice out his concerns. "But what if we can't attach the device? What if the sudden stop causes the train to tip?" He raised his voice. "What if Mr. Davenport gets caught in a traffic jam?!"
"In a helicopter?" Bree asked.
"There could be birds."
Adam made a face of disbelief. "That drive cars? I don't think so."
"Yeah, I never heard of that." Lorelei said moving closer to stand beside Adam who nodded at her words.
Growing tired of hearing so much nonsense, Leo approached Chase. "You're overthinking this. The answer is simple. If Sally's on a train traveling at a certain speed, X, she's gonna reach the curve at a certain time, Y. All we need to do is multiply X by Y, to find out if we have enough track left to stop."
Lorelei stared at Leo with a confused look. "We know a Sally?"
Her questioned was rudely ignore as Chase responded to whatever Leo had said that Lorelei did not understand. "Okay...but what if Sally is sitting on enough nuclonium to reduce an entire city to a stain?" Chase pointed at the shelf full of nuclenium.
"Then Sally should have taken the bus." Leo said.
"Guys, again, who is Sally?" Lorelei asked, feeling like she was missing something. "I have a photographic memory, but you know I always forget to bring my camera. I don't remember ever meeting a girl named Sally."
Leo facepalmed. "First of all, Sally does not exist. I made her up. And second of all, I already told you photographic memory does not work that way."
Lorelei furrowed her eyebrows feeling more lost than she did before. "I'm tired. I'll just take a seat." She sat down on the floor leaning her head against the wall.
"I'll join you." Leo said and took a seat on top of a storage bin beside the girl. The five teenagers fell into silence while Adam, Bree, and Chase paced around. That was until Leo spoke causing the other three to turned their attention to him, "Oh, I know! In the movies Sparkman And The Train From Tomorrow, Sparkman hops in front of the train and stops it with his pinkie. Just do that!"
Lorelei nodded at Leo's idea, remembering in the movie it had worked. But her hope was cut short because Adam rejected the idea. "Leo, I don't have that ability."
"Well, then you need an upgrade."
Suddenly, a series of honks came from outside, making the teenagers light up. "Guys! Davenport's here!" Chase exclaimed. "He's really here! I told you we'd be fine."
"No, you didn't."
"I don't remember that."
"Me neither."
"Yeah, just the opposite, actually."
Lorelei stood up from the floor and the five of them stood underneath the top door of the train car, where Adam, Bree, and Chase had entered in to wait for Mr. Davenport to hand them the decelerator.
"Okay, I'm going to drop the decelerator now. Make sure you catch it, it's very delicate." Davenport said, as he align the helicopter.
"Okay."
"Pretend it's a baby."
"Okay!" Adam repeated growing impatient with the man. Just then Mr. Davenport dropped the decelerator, but it seemed like no one anticipated how big the artifact was and instead of falling throw the hole and right into Adam's arms, it fell to the side clanking as the train continued moving. The teenagers made pained expressions at the loud noise of the decelerator falling.
Adam still had his arms extended to each side. "Pretend I caught it!"
Davenport was growing more and more frustrated with the situation. "You know for the record when I fill out the incident report, I'm putting 'human error'!"
Leo turned to the group. "Okay, this just went from comic book cool, to real life terrifying. My new mission is to get the heck off this train!"
"Okay, we're gonna have to abort the mission! Never liked Welkerville, anyways." Davenport announced. "All right, I'm gonna drop down the rope ladder. Everybody up, Leo and Lori first."
"You don't have to tell me twice. Come on, guys, let's go home and have some cocoa! Lori's recipe is the best." Leo said, ready to go up the ladder with Lorelei behind him. The two were about to climb up until they notice Adam, Bree, and Chase hadn't moved. "Guys? Cocoa!"
Bree spoke, "We can't quit now."
"If we do, it means we failed our first mission." Chase said.
"Yeah, we've been training our whole lives for this moment now. We're not giving up." Adam finished. A look of determination on their faces.
Leo still tried to convince them to leave. "Come on, this thing's about to crash. And we've done everything humanly possible."
"Yeah, what else is there to do?" Lorelei asked, not liking the idea of her friends staying behind.
"But that's just it, Mr. Davenport made us superhuman, because when all else fails, we can't." Chase explained, the three of them pulling each other closer.
"Yeah, we put ourselves in danger for the sake of humanity."
Leo and Lorelei turned to each other. Silently having a conversation with their eyes before coming to an agreement. Leo stepped off the ladder. "Well, if you guys aren't going, we are not going either."
"Guys, this is too dangerous for you." Bree said.
"Please, my middle name is 'Danger'" Leo said making Lorelei shake her head with furrowed eyebrows.
Adam was also not having it. "I thought it was Francis."
"It's pronounced "Danger." Leo persisted.
"No, it isn't but okay." Lorelei said patting Leo on his shoulder. If he wanted his middle name to be Danger then so be it. She wasn't about to step on his dream, even if the names didn't sound right together.
Davenport spoke from the earpiece. "Leo and Lori, we are running out of time. By 'we', I mean you. Get up the ladder, now!"
"We're coming!" Leo attached the kits that had been inside the bag Lorelei had hidden in, on the ladder. "We're climbing up the ladder right now! Pull me up!" Once the ladder was out of the train, Lorelei hit the button to close the door.
"Guys, are you crazy? What are you doing?" Chase asked.
"We're all in this together." Leo said, and Lorelei had to bite the inside of her cheek to prevent herself from singing the song of high school musical. "We may not be superhuman, but it doesn't mean we can't be heroes."
Lorelei nodded, "We don't need cool abilities to know when to do the right thing."
Mr. Davenport spoke again, "First-aid kits? When I open this things, you two better be inside! What do you guys think you're doing?!"
"We're completing our mission." With that the five teenagers took off their earpieces.
Chase touched his temple to bring back the diagram. "Okay, we have approximately three minutes to slow this thing down before it hits the turn and flies off the tracks."
Leo moved away while Chase allowed the hologram to disappear. "Okay, let's think. Objects in motion remain in motion unless an external force blocks it."
"So what could block out path?" Bree asked.
"Oh, I got it!" Adam said, causing the group to turn to him. They needed as much ideas as they could get. "We can put the nuclonium tanks in front of the train!"
Lorelei nodded at the idea and shared a high five with Adam. Neither of the two noticing what was wrong with that idea until Bree pointed it out.
"Then the train would blow up."
"Thus stopping it." Adam smiled.
Lorelei let out a sighed. "This would all be easier if we were in a cartoon show."
Leo nodded. "Lori is right. If only Wile E. Coyote was here, he'd have a giant rubber band he could tie around two trees to stop this thing." He smiled at the memory of one of his favorite cartoons.
"Wait a minute. Leo, that's it!" Chase said, "The Reid-Bennet Bridge is 19.8 miles ahead. Our rappelling ropes are unbreakable. So if Bree ties them all together-"
"I could use my super-speed to run ahead and wrap around the bridge supports." Bree added catching up to what Chase was hinting at.
"And then Adam can use his super-strength to hold the rope and stop the train." Chase finished the plan making them all smile. This meant there was a chance they weren't going to actually die.
"Let's do this thing!" Bree said and the three siblings walked towards the large doors of the train car. Lorelei and Leo stayed behind.
"Did I mention that Wile E. Coyote dies in every episode?" Leo said causing Adam, Bree, and Chase to turn to him with looks of are you kidding me?
"Don't worry guys. As long as Roadrunner doesn't make an appearance, the plan should work." Lorelei tried to reassure them which wasn't of much help but they appreciated her efforts.
"Get the bag." Adam said to Leo making him go and grab the bag while Lorelei took the ropes they needed. Because of how fast the train was moving, once Adam opened the door of the train car, the bag on Leo's hand went flying out the door.
"Can we chalk that up to human error?" Leo turned to Adam and the taller boy could only nod in response.
Lorelei gave the ropes to Bree before watching the girl speed off the train to go tie the ropes like they had agreed on. In a few seconds, Bree was back on the train.
"Okay, the rope's secure." She passed it to Adam before holding up a penny for them to see. "Also, look what the train did to this penny!"
"Ohh." The group exclaimed in delight at the sight of the deformed object.
"And this squirrel!" Bree held up a dead squirrel causing them to yell in disgust and Adam to throw it away just as fast as Bree had showed it. Lorelei then watched Adam let out a deep breath before securing the rope around his waist. He sat down on the floor with his front facing the frame of the door.
"Hey, guys, what if this doesn't work? I mean, I know I'm strong, but this goes way beyond our training scenarios. What if I can't do it?" Adam asked, suddenly beginning to doubt the plan and his skills to fulfill the mission.
"Adam, strength doesn't just come from your muscles." Bree answered, trying to give her older brother the confidence he needed. "It also comes from your mind."
At Bree's sentence, Chase spoke, "Okay, maybe someone else should take the rope."
Bree and Adam glared at him while Leo and Lorelei shook their head. This was not the time for those comments. Still, Bree continued to encourage Adam.
"This is everything we've prepared for. You can do this! Just believe in yourself. I believe in you." She sat down behind Adam and wrapped her arms around his waist for support.
Then Chase did the same, wrapping his arms around Bree. "I believe in you too."
Lorelei smiled at the act before also joining them on the floor. She leaned sideways so she could see Adam's face. "I'll always believe in you, Adam." The boy smiled widely at her, hearing the genuineness in her voice. Lorelei returned the smile, the two sharing a mutual understanding. It wasn't that he thought his siblings were lying, but it was hard to truly believe them when they constantly made fun of him, so it was nice hearing it from someone else.
Leo who was still standing behind them spoke. "I just spend four hours in a bag without a bathroom, I think my support goes without saying." He sat behind Lorelei and wrapped his arms around her waist while she did the same to Chase. Now the five of them were holding on to each other, with Adam being the main source of strength as he was the one to pull on the rope.
"Okay, here we go. Twenty seconds." Chase said making them all nod.
Unexpectedly, Bree's phone began ringing and more surprisingly to them all, she answered the call. "Hello? What?! Oh. No!"
"What?" Chase asked.
"What is it now?" Adam turned around worriedly.
Bree moved the phone away from her ear. "Caitlyn just broke up with Rodney!"
Adam and Lorelei gasped at the news. Lorelei didn't really know Caitlyn in a personal level. The girl actually scared her a bit with how intense she could get sometimes. Lorelei didn't even know she had a boyfriend so the news was surprising.
"Bree this is serious!" Chase frowned.
"I know! They've been dating for, like, three months!" Bree said and Lorelei frowned. That didn't seem like too long. They were already breaking up? Weren't relationships meant to last more? Lorelei has never been in one but she could guess they were supposed to last more than just three months.
"Oh. Hey, can I talk to her for a sec?" Chase asked and Lorelei looked at him curiously, wondering what he had to say. But when Bree passed him her phone Chase threw it off the train. Bree's jaw dropped and Adam turned around to praise Chase.
"That was a good one."
The group tighten their grip on each other as Chase said, "Okay, guys, five seconds. Four, three, two, one!"
Adam pulled on the rope making them all completely leaned back on the ground. "Whoa!!!" They let out screams as they pulled with all their strength. Lorelei could feel her arm muscles tighten as she pulled. She felt how she slowly began to lose strength but she continued on. Thankfully, It didn't take long for the train to stop. Once it did all the lights went out for a second before they returned.
The five teenagers stayed on the floor for a few seconds to catch their breath before they began getting up, letting out sounds of exhaustion. Chase helped Leo stand. "We're alive!"
"You guys did it!" Lorelei said grinning at the three.
"We completed our first mission!" Bree exclaimed with a smile.
Chase high five Adam and the taller boy let out a groan as he looked down at his broken glove. "Ow! Rope burn! Anybody see the first-aid kits?" Adam asked while looking around making Leo and Lorelei share looks.
"Well, we did it. That includes you too, guys." Chase said smiling at the pair. "If you two didn't waste your life watching cartoons every day we might all be dead right now."
Leo smiled as he placed an arm around Lorelei. "Well, what can I say? Lori and I? We're a package deal." The two siblings smiled at Chase. "So, what's our next mission? A runaway rocket or a sinking battleship?"
"How about trying to explain this entire thing to your mom?" Chase said, making the smile on Lorelei and Leo's face to disappear.
"That's a mission we'll never return from."

This is Disney so of course they were able to fit into the bag idc. 🤺
Im trying to do one chapter per episode so that's why the chapters are a little long.
What are your thoughts on this chapter? I need pure honesty. It was a little hard to add Lorelei into the last part given poor girl couldn't be of much help.
Can we all just agree that Adam and Lori are the cutest? I love writing the small interactions between them. It never fails to make me go 🥹💗
Anyways, here I leave you guys with the memes. See you next time!
