CHAPTER EIGHT ✧・゚
▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅
THE BAR INSIDE DISTRICT 12 WAS LIVER THEN EVER SEEN BEFORE GETTING READY FOR A PERFORMANCE, everyone drinking their bottles of liquid and were listening to the music already being played from on the stage. Old faces were seen in the crowd, and a few specific ones that came into the bar looking for two certain people that would be performing
Some of the covey were already on the stage just finishing off their music that had the crowd dancing around, and made the crowd start to clap when Maude bounced up to the microphone placed on the stage.
"Is it hot in here?!" She called into the mic with her thick accent happily, causing the crowd to cheer and clap louder in agreement, "Cause we're planning on taking it up a set more! Now welcome the dynamic duo, (Y/N) and Lucy Gray!"
The moment the two said girls stepped out on stage, the crowd began to applaud and cheer even louder. (Y/N)'s normal bright smile was shown on her face, hair out on her shoulders for once wearing a red rose tied on her wrist, and a black dress that had a mockingjay print intertwined in the other designs on the clothing.
She did a little spin around Lucy Gray who laughed catching her with her spare hand that wasn't holding the guitar, the ends of (Y/N)'s dress somewhat shimmering into a warmer colour the more she moved around. The two made it up towards the microphone placed there, but not before hugging Maude.
What neither of them knew was that the new and improved Snow brothers were standing in the crowd, right at the back watching the girls up on stage. The moment Cassian's blue eyes landed on (Y/N)'s smiling figure, the world around him stopped. Everything else tunned out expect for her, and her laughter that was music to his ears.
He never felt such utter relief before finally seeing her after so long, relieved she was alive as he thought he had lost her forever. He feared she was gone, and that he'd never see her beatufil self once more. But she was alive, and happier more then ever from the last time he saw her in the games.
His girl. His love. His Fireheart. His (Y/N) was alive.
After all the weeks of fear and yearning and uncertainty, Cassian would wrap her in his arms and never left her go, ever again. That was the only reason he begged to come to 12, to be with the woman he loved more then life itself. And he'd do anything to keep it like that. Anything.
He watched her with a fond, and soft look in his eyes leaning his back on the pillar behind him, as she took the drum sticks he personally made for her into her hands, and bounced up next to Lucy Gray talking into the microphone giggling.
"Oh, hey there district 12! Did you miss us?" Lucy Gray asked into the mic grinning, the crowd cheered louder again, much louder, and it made the sisters smile at one another, "I bet ya'll never expect to lay eyes on us again, but let me tell you that it goes both ways, but we are back!"
(Y/N) normally would get stage fright all by herself but having Lucy Gray beside her, and the objects that Cassian made for her in her hands, brought her more reassurance then her nerves.
She taps them against the drum set a bit behind where another mic was, and laughed when someone was handing her sister a bottle, "Is that for us?" She asked in a cheery way taking the object with a thankful smile, nudging Lucy Gray teasingly, "Come on, ya'll. You know how my sister gave up drinking when she was twelve."
Lucy Gray rolled her eyes amused watching her remove the lid from the bottle, and lifted it up into the air, "But I for one, have not!" She called out before taking a huge swig, and soon coughed after making the crowd cheer once more, followed by laugher at her reaction.
"Now I know why I don't really drink-" She made a sour face placing the lid back on, wiping her mouth with her arm as she passed it back down to the male, making Cassian to smile softly to himself finding her antics endearing.
Lucy Gray patted her sisters back gently smiling at her slightly taller self, and took her hand in hers for a second, "How about a song, ya'll?" She questioned the crowd in the mic, moving the attention off of (Y/N) seeing how agitated she was getting, and heard the crowd cheer even more at the statement.
(Y/N) beamed at the idea of preforming with Lucy Gray again after all this time, still not believing they got to do this even after what happened before in the games. She went to the seat in front of the drums, getting into position as she gently tapped the Hi-Hates once to start off the song.
"You can't take my past, you can't take my history.
You could take my pa, but his name's a mystery.
Nothing you can take from me was ever worth keeping. Oh, nothing you can take was ever worth keeping."
From behind the sisters both signing, the others started playing their instruments to join the upbeat music drifting through the bar's building. The crowd started to dance with their partners, or the groups around them, all getting into the rhythm.
(Y/N) smiled a bit bittersweet at the sight of the couples dancing with their loved ones, heart aching knowing she'd never see the man who saved her from the games again. To distract herself from those thoughts, she began to hit the bass drum with her boot in sync with the rhythm, and use the stick to move from the Floor Tom to the Medium Tom.
She shared a wide smile with Lucy Gray playing her guitar just away from the microphone, and she nodded her head at the one in front of (Y/N), signally she could sing next. The girl freaked out a bit at that, but still went ahead as she played the drums without even looking down.
"Can't take my charm, can't take my humor.
Can't take my wealth, 'cause it's just a rumor.
Nothing you can take was ever worth keeping.
No, nothing you can take was ever worth keeping."
Her (E/C) eyes looked up from a certain spot in the crowd who were the loudest cheering for her, making her smile shyly in thanks, and look over the crowd more as the song continued. However, her heart almost jumped out of her chest when she caught a familiar pair of blue eyes with her now wide eyed gaze.
Cassian was staring right back at her leaning his head against the pillar, arms crossed over his chest with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. She couldn't see him the best from all the back on the stage, but she knew. She knew her Cass was standing right there, watching her performance.
She had to blink a few times to make sure her mind wasn't playing tricks on her, but when he flashed that same charming grin at her, (Y/N)'s heart fluttered rapidly inside her chest, own mouth moving up into a wide, happy grin.
"Lucy Gray!"
Sadly breaking eye contact with the man of her dreams, she looked to the side seeing her sister also smiling to herself from having seen Coriolanus in the crowd also, her cheeks a bit red and flustered. Showing how much the brothers have an effect over them.
But (Y/N)'s figure become alarmed when Billy Taupe approached the stage clearly drunk as he walked in a wobbly way, Mayfair Lipp behind him trying to pull her boyfriend away from the girls.
Lucy Gray shared a nervous look with her sister who had gotten up having a feeling something was about to happen, and stood beside the other girl, watching as Mayfair Lipp gets shoved back by Billy into another male.
"Go away, you pervert." (Y/N) groaned in annoyance scowling at the male, who was tying to climb onto the stage, and she acted by pulling Lucy Gray back a little behind her out of instinct, the mucis still playing around them.
Billy heard her insult but didn't pay mind to it, instead roughly smirked in the drunk state he was up at her sending bad shivers down her spin, going to fully climb up but Mayfair tugged him back down.
However, Billy had enough and pushed her away from him again by a hand slamming into her, which caused everyone to stop dancing and turn their attention on them. A man tried to calm him down, but Billy shoved him away also. That only pissed him off, and the man charged a Billy, tackling him to the ground.
"Settle down! Settle down!" Lucy Gray tried to calm the growing fight, speaking into the microphone as she shared a wide eyed look with (Y/N), both watching the men fight each other in the middle of the bar's building.
They winced when one of the men broke a glass over another man's head, causing a few screams to occur from somewhere in the room, a full of brawl happening now thanks to Billy's idiotic ways.
He managed to escape the grasps of the many men fighting around him, and stormed back up to the stage, trying to grab onto Lucy Gray's dress, "I know you miss me, Lucy Gray!"
(Y/N) scowled shoving a boot into Billy's chest harshly to push him away from her nervous sister before he could do anything, "Back off, asshole!" She cursed in her thick accent, glaring down at the male as she protected Lucy Gray behind her own body, "She dumped your ass for a reason!"
He brushed her off not caring about it, and tried to reach for her dress this time, "You know, that's why I've always liked you, (Y/N)." He slurred half out of his mind, a predatory look in his eyes as he chuckled, "Love me a strong girl. You fit perfectly in that category."
He had managed to grab onto the end of her flowing dress, causing the sisters to break out into exclaims for him to stop, as Lucy Gray tries to intervene, but (Y/N) continued to keep her behind while she tugged back her own clothing from Billy.
Near the back of the crowd the Snow brothers saw what was happening with the girl, sharing a confident look with one another as they moved in different directions. All Cass saw was red as he pushed through the crowd, trying to get to his girl seeing she was struggling to get rid of Billy.
Someone ended up punching him across the face by accident, making him freeze for a moment touching the side of his face, and clenched his jaw tightly before he continued making his way to the stage like nothing happened.
"Get your filthy hands off of me-!" She continued her panicked and irritated protest at Billy, her dress having slipped from his grip but the drunk male was so persistent he managed to grab on her exposed leg now.
Before anything more could be done, someone's fist connected with the side of Billy's face, and sent him stumbling back away from the girls. Lucy Gray cradled his sister in her arms, as her (E/C) wide eyes turn to find the source of who had hit Billy.
There stood with his fists clenched by his sides, looking furious and deadly as ever, was Cassian. His face contorted in a maelstrom of fury, the lines etched deep with the weight of pent-up anger.
His eyes, once calm pools, now burned with a fierce and unrestrained fire, each gaze a searing accusation. The muscles in his jaw clenched and unclenched, a rhythmic dance of frustration and rage. His nostrils flared with every ragged breath, each inhale fueling the tempest that raged beneath the surface.
And with one quick feral glance to his injured girl on the stage with her sister, he was back to attacking Billy, blinded by rage. Normally he was the calmer twin, but not know. Not when it came to (Y/N).
"You like harassing girls, huh?!" Cassian yelled furiously into Billy's face, grabbing the coughing male by his shirt collar to shake him around roughly, "She told you to leave her alone, asshole! What don't you get about that?!"
Billy was thrown to the floor when Cass sent another punch to his face, the Snow male not even worrying about how his knuckles hurt, as continued to send punches on punches at the male who placed his hands on (Y/N).
But before this got too ugly, Sejanus ran up to him grabbing his arm from doing anymore damage, as a bloody mouthed Coryo was behind them. Cassian let himself by pulled away from Billy, spitting out some blood as his blue eyes found her (E/C) ones on the stage, up until he couldn't see her anymore.
Well. . . . that was something.
THE GRASS LANDS FAR OUT FROM DISTRACT 12 WAS A PEACEFUL PLACE TO GO TO ESACPE FROM EVERYTHING, and currently that was where a certain (H/C) haired girl was, far off away from everyone and everything to sort herself and her thoughts out about all that's happened recently.
"Are you, are you coming to the tree?
Where they strung up a man, they say,
who murdered three?"
Her soft melody carried through the breeze blowing around the trees, the girl sat on a blanket under the shade from the massive trees above her. She strung along Lucy Gray's guitar in her lap, smiling to herself hearing familiar birds chirping in the distance to her song.
"Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be. If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree."
The sound of a twig snapping behind her startled (Y/N), causing her music and playing to stop. She turned around quickly, thinking it was someone wanting to kill her, but relaxed when she saw it was only just Cassian.
"They said I might find you out here, love." He was the first one to speak, her heart fluttering a bit hearing his nickname for her again and his accent she missed so much, "Your sister wouldn't give you up, but I knew I'd find you either way."
She mentally thanked Lucy Gray for having her back, her thoughts drifting back to the fight last night where he protected her. She found it both attractive, and worrying what he did for her. She just didn't want him to get into trouble for her sake, knowing he would in a heartbeat.
"Sorry." She spoke up after a few more seconds, her voice in a gentle whisper placing the guitar on the mat beside her, before standing up onto the grass, "I still got one foot in the arena. Nothing's been the same since I've got back."
When they both actually face each other for the first time in ages, under the sunlight, they didn't say anything and only took the other one in. (Y/N) observed the male from head to toe standing a few feet in front, as he did the same to her.
He looked completely different, his curly blonde locks were only on top of his head now as everything around it was in a buzz cut. His wore a jumpsuit that belonged to the peacekeepers, and wore his familiar ring on his finger, along with a dog tag that was flashing a bit under his vest.
Her breath hitched at how handsome he still looked even after this long, "You look-" She stumbled out the words feeling her face grow more, and fiddled with her blue shirt material meeting his warm eyes, "You look good, Cass."
He smiled adoringly at her, his own cheeks heating up as he walked up to her until he was stationed right in front of her smaller figure. His brows furrowed now, eyes filling with sadness staring down at her, "I thought you were dead."
"I thought I was too." She admitted quietly looking off to the side, which had Cassian forcing his hand back from wanting to grab her chin, "But your Dean..." She trailed off meeting his gaze again, "Highbottom sent me back here with Lucy Gray. Which I find odd since there's only meant to be one winner."
A look of confusion flashed over his face, his blonde curls falling over his forehead as he tilted his head to the side, "Highbottom did?" He asked repeating her statement, "I understand why you both won, but that doesn't make sense why'd he send you back."
"He put us on the train himself." She tells him nodding her head, fiddling with her fingers as she feels the breeze blow around her let down hair, "Gave us some money, and he said they took you to 8."
Cassian sighed heavily through his nose, and run a stressed hand through his locks on top of his head, "I broke their rules with Coryo, saving your life, but they let me come here to 12. Because I had to try and find you, darling." He confesses in a thick voice, looking over her face for any emotion as his fingers just barley brush over her fingers across from him.
She swallowed harshly trying to keep herself from falling feeling his touch for the first time in ages, and furrowed her brows seriously, "Highbottom told me the strangest thing." She told him shaking her head confused, "He said he was glad I survived you."
His face shifts into a stoic one a bit hearing her answer, clenching his jaw for a few second, and exhaled through his parted mouth, "He told you what I did to that boy in the arena?"
(Y/N) only nodded her head moving her gaze down to their shoes, and felt his body move closer to hers now, as his brittish accent comes out sadder with his next words. She was still looking away, while he was staring down at her figure.
"I didn't have a choice. It was either I watch Coryo gets hurt or I stop the boy." He explains to her in a raspy voice, getting like that from his emotions bottling up to the surface, as he could see she was in the same boat as him right now.
Her vision got a bit blurry biting down on her lower lip, and scrunched up her knuckles by her sides, "Dill, I killed her Cass." She chokes out in a wavery voice, making him coo reassurance, "I thought it would be one of the others, but-"
"Hey, hey," He cut her off in a cooing tone, gently nudging a finger under her chin to direct her teary gaze into his firm, but warm one, "You are not a killer, (Y/N). You could never be one."
She gritted her teeth a bit shaking her head stubbornly, and removed her chin from his grasp, "I am. Even If I didn't plan for it to happen to Dill, another one of them would of had the same fate." She states sternly looking into his eyes, "Both of us are now killers."
Cassian's heart clenched painfully at the way she thought about herself, and acted out of instinct. His larger, warm hands reach out to grab each side of her face gently, cradling her in his touch, as he needed her to understand she was fine with him.
"You're safe, Fireheart." He whispered reassuringly flashing a smile, his thumbs rubbing soothing circles over her cheeks that her leaning into his palms, eye lashes fluttering at their close contact with each other, "You'll always be safe with me. I promise."
She released a shaky sigh that hit the skin of his palms, their noses grazing from how close they were together, "I thought I'd lost you, Cass." She whispered in a voice crack, swallowing the lump forming in her throat to recollect herself, "I thought I'd never see you again after the games ended-"
"Nothing will keep us apart. Nothing will keep me away from you, Fireheart." He assured in a rasp full of emotion for her, his ringed thumb brushing along her top lip gently, as his thumb was tracing under her eye comfortingly inches from her face now.
She could feel his warm breath hit her skin from how close he was, lips parting seeing how his lidded, blue eyes follow the movement. Their eyes meet, both holding more then one emotion for the other, as their faces drew closer and closer.
Their lips met in a desperate union, an impulsive collision of longing and desire that transcended the boundaries of restraint. It was a kiss born of hungry anticipation, as if they had been starved for this moment.
One of his hands found refuge in the tousled strands of her hair, fingers entwining as if seeking solace in the very essence of her being, and the other was still cradling the side of her cheek, thumb grazing along her jaw.
Her trembling fingertips traced the contours of his face, mapping every detail in a fervent exploration, as they trailed down to the front of his jumpsuit to pull him flushed against her, both ravishing each other hungrily under the tree.
He deepens the kiss by tilting his head to the side, his lips moving softly but urgently against hers, as his warm tongue runs along her bottom lip, silently asking for entry. Her soft moan is muffled against his mouth, parting her own to let him inside, leaving no where inside untouched by his tongue.
They both dreamt of this moment from the second their eyes met on the day of the reaping, and couldn't be more alive that it was really happening. They both were each others breath of life, the oxygen they needed to survive.
The sound of a bird whistling noise from behind them, had the couple reculentky pulling with from one another, their lips making a small smacking sound. Her head was resting against his chest to catch her breath, as they turn to see Maude standing up the hill with Lucy Gray, both waving their arms signalling someone was coming.
"Your peacekeepers friends are heading this way." (Y/N) tells Cassian with a heaving chest still, placing her palms on his to feel his fast heart beat underneath, "I'll handle this, don't worry. They'll be here about the fight last night."
He sighed shakily through his red lips from their fierce kiss from before, his own breathing still unsteady as he brushed his thumb along her waist, and nodded his head. If he didn't physical removed himself from her, they surely would have gone further then just kissing under the tree.
She squeezed his hand under hers on his chest knowing how he was feeling, and stepped around him to bend down to grab the supplies she bought. The guair in one hand, while the other stuff was inside the basket she carried down.
"They can't see us together." His tone was sad, full of nothing but dread as he furrows his brows looking at his girls figure standing in front of him, "I wish I could kiss you all the time, but I don't want you getting into trouble for my sake."
She chuckled sending him a warm smile that had his stomach flipping, "There's a lake out in the woods. Nobody knows much of it expect us covey." She tells him adjust the stuff in her hands, hearing Lucy Gray and Maude come up behind her now, "Meet me here tomorrow. We'll go, we can be free out there."
